The Old National Centre contains three venues: The Egyptian Room, the Murat Theater, and Deluxe. I have written reviews for each of them you can check out. In general I will say that this is a Ticketmaster/Live Nation venue. Therefore, if you buy tickets online, you are going to pay exorbitant service fees. You don't have to be happy with it, but at this point you have to live with it. Similarly, every other aspect possible will be overpriced, from drinks to the paltry selection of food. But it is in a pretty cool area of downtown Indianapolis. There are some good restaurants within walking distance, and parking is generally not a huge problem. If a performer you like is coming through and you're willing to price, you'll have a good experience. read more

But being in emergency response field. This place is a nightmare waiting to happen. Way to many people and no way to get around. Security was young kids. Went here with my best friend for a concert and while I loved the artist and the show, the seats were atrocious. This venue IS NOT for these types of music concerts where everyone is standing to see or excited to see their favorite artists to perform. This place is definitely for like stage plays or music Orchestras or anything of that nature. The security were nice and did their jobs. I did like that I could still get something to drink even after the concert. The lobby was big and wide for all the people that came, even when standing in line for merchandise. I am giving four stars because I don't think it's the venues fault for the bad seating since the music artist and team would be the ones to pick out where they need to perform. We still had a great time even though we had to stand the whole time to see cause everyone was standing so that made it hard to see. read more

We went to Indianapolis to see Hamilton since tickets where we live were $600+. This theater is beautiful on the inside and I bought Royal seats because I read reviews that they have more leg space. We sat in Royal Left row H seats 4-5. These seats were fine for the performance and we saw everything except a little bit that happened on the left side of the stage and we were up high enough that if people sat in front of us we could still see. Also I didn't feel smooshed into the seats like some theaters make you feel. The only thing I didn't like here was the water. They sell liquid death for their water product and because it's in a can it's metallic and since it's in a can I guess it throws my brain for a loop because I'm expecting it to be carbonated because it's in the can. The popcorn was good just wish you got a little bit more but that's probably because I'm a sucker for popcorn. Would definitely come back to see a show here again. read more

Despite being possibly the worst venue in Indianapolis to see a show, the Egyptian Room gets good acts to play the venue. The Egyptian room has a 2000 person capacity. It is a decorated high school gym, with 4 urinals and 3 toilets in the men's room. They do not allow audiences to bring in an unopened water, so pay up $5 for a can of water or $10 for 2 because if the show is sold out, it's going to be hot in there. The sound quality is subpar in the Egyptian Room. Indy has to have a better theatre for shows because this place is horrible. Yet, I do come back every time bc of the quality of acts. Musicians and Artists, as a fan, I beg you, book to play somewhere else, anywhere else! read more

As far as a concert venue goes, this one is just fine! The lines look deceptively long, but they move pretty quickly. There's lots of staff to help if you need it, and the signage is very clear to help you find your show. I love how much parking is around and readily available - you can pay to park at the venue for an additional cost, or take advantage of all the cheap parking around town! The only negatives I'd mention are that because of the way the rooms are set up if you're short, you often can't see the stage - typical short person problems, but problems nonetheless! Old National, Murat, whatever you call it, it's a great venue. I think I've been to enough events in all the rooms located in this venue. I've seen many musical performances from the likes of John Legend, Jill Scott, Daley, SZA, etc. I've been to comedy shows (Tiffany Haddish) and I've been to just all out dance parties (Grits & Biscuits). Such a great spot to have a variety of events, some are even at the same time and you can't tell once you are in your specific room. I tend to stay away from purchasing drinks or food, because you know they tend to be over priced at times. Tickets are reasonably priced and no matter where you are, you are likely to have a good view. read more

We went to the Old National Centre last night to see "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" presented by Broadway in Indianapolis. I have also been here in the past for a dance recital and a concert in the Egyptian Room. The build itself is beautiful, amazing architecture and design. Very clean and well maintained. The theater seating is comfortable. The staff during the play was welcoming, friendly, and helpful! They offer snack foods and refreshments to purchase. Alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages. This was a great place to see a concert. We stopped for a night to see Chicago on a return trip from St Louis to Cleveland. It's a great old theater style venue. Beautiful architecture. The house was packed. Small personal area to seating as would be expected for a place of its time period. Folks seemed comfy enough. Staff was efficient and friendly. They moved people through pretty quickly with security and ticket checks. We missed most of the opening act so go early to be seated if you don't want this to happen to you. No designated garage but lots of local parking. Plan ahead for that as well. Make sure you have cash to pay pop up lot people. read more

I've now seen two kick ass shows here. Slayer, Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies and then In This Moment, Upon a Burning Body and the Nearly Deads. I love the architecture of the place and the sound is very powerful. It's very roomy and plenty of room for moshing and crowd surfing. Bathrooms never seem to be an issue. I can't remember ever standing in a line. There's always plenty of drink stands as well so the line doesn't take you away from the show too long. And there's at least four in the concert room so you don't have to miss any of the show. read more

Visited Old National Centre for the 2019 Trevor Noah show. Getting here was pretty easy, just walked across the street from our evening shenanigans on Massachusetts Ave. Being in the balcony there were lots of stairs to climb. The process of getting tickets scanned for entry was quick so the line moved quick. The show started on time though with an opener performing as people still got seated. The seats are small, limited leg room (maybe a little less than coach on an airline), and only slightly staggered from the seats in front of you: Tall folks, like me, your knees may hurts after the show. Short folks, you may have trouble seeing over the tall person in front of you. I'll have to keep this in mind before attending any other event hear. The show was good, seating just blah. read more

First time in the Egyptian room...last time in the Egyptian room. Let's start with the worthless fast pass. Why pay for it when you are 4th in line to have 40 of the general admission people get let in before you? Crowd was an older crowd, no couches or anything close to room to offer some relief from standing for 3 hours. So we had to upgrade to deck. For those who do not know... the deck is a group of crappy tables and chairs. Charge for deck upgrade is 40.00 per person....thats 12.00 more than the ticket cost. One waitress for whole deck. She was overwhelmed, and we barely we able to order drinks from her. After fast pass, tickets and parking. We were at almost 110.00 a person for a 28.00 ticket show....WTH. read more

The Old National Centre is truly one of a kind. With three levels and sizes of stages, it's opportunities are bountiful and frequently used to full potential. I've definitely gone to a rock show or three downstairs at the Deluxe while the Murat Theatre hosted children's entertainment or full ballets with live orchestras. They bring in a decent array of acts and depend on their status as the only venue of their size and capacity in the city to promote the happenings. If you want to keep track of what's coming through, make sure you follow them on social media (or get on Do317 and keep up with a wider web of events in the city). I'm glad that we have a nice indoor facility for music and arts in Indianapolis that is not a massive stadium. That being said, ONC's ticketing is managed through LiveNation and good God their fees are outrageous! It's a good thing ONC is on Mass Ave because the sticker prices combined with the fees and high price of drinks in the venue make drinking there unaffordable altogether. read more

Went to see Wicked. The show was excellent and the venue is beautiful to look at. The intermission was very short, and the lines for the two ladies rooms on two different floors were crazy long, I'm talking hundreds! And we went to the line immediately when intermission began. Staff were standing near the lines, directing the flow, and shouting that the show would resume in four minutes, so we could either go back to our seats now or if we chose to wait in the restroom line we would have to wait 8 minutes until after the first number before we could be reseated. There were about 50 ladies in our line and not many took up the offer. So we waited in the hall until we could sit back down and disrupted those around us as we went back to our seats in the dark. So Old National, if you are not going to add more restrooms to accommodate the number of patrons attending shows, you need to allow a decent amount of time for intermission! I've had seating issues on the orchestra level in the past, so now I will only sit in the balcony, where you can at least see above the heads of the people in front of you. This is not the case on the orchestra level. Time for a makeover, please. read more

ONC has three different notable venues inside: the Murat, the Egyptian Room, and the Deluxe. This makes it the go-to spot for downtown entertainment. For the Murat think comedians and Broadway shows -- a seated performing arts theater. The Egyptian Room is a general admission space usually hosting B-list singers, not yet big enough for a stadium tour. The Deluxe is a smaller general admission space, hosting raves and smaller bands (with a claustrophobiclly short ceiling though). A few things I don't like about ONC: You can't avoid service fees. Even if you buy your tickets at the box office, there's still a $5 fee per ticket (I think because they use Live Nation). Getting into/out of the venue takes forever, especially if multiple shows are happening at once. This is partly due to them having everyone go through security scans at the entrance. (This means waiting outside, no matter the weather, so get there EARLY!) On top of this, they don't usually hold their shows - most venues will put an automatic 5-10 minute "hold" on big productions (i.e. Broadway) because it's better to get late-comers into their seats before the show starts. ONC seems to prefer interrupting the beginning of the show by having entire rows stand up to let people through. Murat is larger than Clowes (Indy's other Broadway venue), but I prefer Clowes by far for better seating and logistics. Finally, not enough restrooms, and the intermissions do not allow enough time to use them anyway. The minutes before showtime and intermissions here feel frantic and stressful. As mentioned in other reviews, the back orchestra seating is not worth it. The floor doesn't rise enough and the balcony overhangs at about R, obstructing your view of the top of the stage. Given the choice between back main floor or balcony, always choose the balcony. Things I like about ONC: helpful and knowledgeable staff in my experience who will often direct you to the restroom with the shortest line. The Murat is beautiful with classic architecture. The Egyptian Room is interesting and spacious. They consistently book really popular shows and great artists. Lately I've been here about once a month for events I was really excited to see in Indy! All in all, if I paid $75+ for a ticket, please just start the show 10 minutes late as opposed to having late-comers disrupt and ruin the first song. It would be better for everyone. read more

I'm so disappointed and angry about our visit to Old National Centre last night. They should not be selling seats where people can't see my mom bought us tickets to Fiddler on the roof. What I could see-as long as the person ahead of me wasn't tilting their head -was good. The people behind us had seats that sat down below us!! I tried to be mindful of them and I tried to stay straight up but I could hardly see. The back 5-6 rows are even or go lower than the row in front of you!!!! I attended The Nutcracker and I was surprised how organized this place was. There were two shows happening at the same time. The security lines moved quickly and the staff was so nice. They were quick to point you in the right direction and keep the lines moving. I was pretty amazed how quickly and efficient everything was. The show was amazing and getting out was really quick too. We were up in the balcony and it wasn't too high. It's an easy walk up or there are elevators. I love the concessions and how easy it is to get a drink. The weekend of the bluey show was also the same weekend as the Indianapolis pride parade. I'm from Cincinnati and had no idea this was going on. We stayed 5 mins driving time away from the venue and were unable to get to the 10am showing. Not only could we not find parking due to so many roads being closed for the 2 hour parade, but we couldn't even get across the street where the venue was since the parade was going on and lasts for 2 hours! Once a police officer escorted us through the parade and across the street, we had missed all but 20 mins of the show. But everyone at this venue that we came in contact with was so incredibly nice and helpful and friendly and they actually allowed us to come to the second show that same day, at no cost! We were not the only people who didn't know about the parade either and they accommodated all of us! And we weren't especially happy walking in either so the fact that they were so helpful from the very beginning says a lot. My son and i truly appreciate all of the accommodations very much, we had these tickets for close to a year and he was so excited! :) read more

Old National Center is one of those jewels hidden throughout the country. It's a remnant of an earlier time. The faded glory of its prime is strained by the cracks in the plaster and the tarnished brass. The elaborate architectural features are almost made more beautiful by the signs of its age and the Murat Theater is a gorgeous setting for a touring Broadway musical. The concessions were quick, friendly, and the selection was quite sufficient for my group. I think everyone who wanted a beverage was able to get through the lines in the brief 15 minute intermission. I will say there was quite a line for the ladies room but I didn't mind as I was in the men's! My main complaint would be the lack of leg room in the Murat Theater. I'm not particularly tall but the space between the rows was just about getting me claustrophobic by the end of the show. Word of advice: go for either the first row in the section or spring for "royalty" seating if you think it might be an issue for you. read more

Ayayay, the Murat Theatre at Old National Centre has to be my least favorite venue in Indy. Every time I go (which isn't often), it's a hot mess. The pros: convenient location on Mass Ave. Variety of acts that come to town. Cool looking exterior. ... And that's where the pros stop for me. This place is a chaotic clusterf*@! every time. No clear signage or sense of direction. Bathrooms down a steep flight of stairs that make it inconvenient for anyone who can't do stairs and needs to take the elevator. Seats so close together you feel like you're packed in like sardines. Rows organized in a way that you're guaranteed to have someone's head block your view of a chunk of the stage. Staff screaming at the top of their lungs where to go. Don't even get me started on the human traffic jams, especially when going to the bathrooms at intermission. No matter how crappy the venue is, if there's a show I really want to see, I'm going to suck it up and go see it. I've seen incredible performances like Wicked and the Book of Mormon, but the theatre experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Case in point: they let in large amounts of patrons who missed the start of the show right during a musical number. Boo. read more

I've been to a pretty wide variety of shows here at the Murat (no I am not going to call it the "Old National Center"), and it's been a pretty excellent venue on almost all accounts. Most recently I saw Steve Martin doing his bluegrass thing in the Murat Theatre, which was an excellent, comfortable space. The Egyptian Room, where I caught the Flaming Lips back in May, was definitely more suited to a general admission rock show, although the views from further back in the crowd were pretty poor. Finally, Swans were more suited to Deluxe, the smaller-sized venue in the basement. Deluxe is by far the most intimate of the spaces, but make sure you bring earplugs with you, because it gets *extremely* loud. One caveat - do your drinking far, far away from the Murat and its patently absurd beverage prices. It should be expected that a venue charges a premium on booze, but if you want to do some drinkin' before your show there are a variety of excellent watering holes on Mass Ave you can hit up instead. I'd recommend the Chatham Tap - not impossible to get a table or seat at the bar, and a good rotation of local and otherwise delicious craft beers on tap. read more

The grand Murat Thea...ahem, I mean the grand Old National Centre: what a masterpiece of a building you are. This is quite a wonderful place to enjoy live performances in Indianapolis; with its beautiful architecture and mysterious appeal, the Murat stirs up excitement and anticipation before a big act. I've seen a few shows here, most recently Willie Nelson & Family- the experiences have all been very positive. Good seating all the way around, but I prefer the mid-section of the lower level (best vantage point, in my opinion). There is a full bar in the lobby, although the prices will get you where it counts. The theater staff are always very helpful when I'm frantically searching for my seat and the chairs pretty comfortable - as far as old theater chairs go... As for old theaters in general: air-conditioning can sometimes feel elusive; it gets kinda warm at times. I''m certain I'll be back to this historic Indianapolis landmark to enjoy something great on the stage. read more

The Old National Centre (ONC) is a jack of all trades. It hosts everything from Broadway shows to private events (i.e. proms/fraternity events); Ed Sheeran before he became big to bands only the hipsters have heard of. And they host the Food Truck Festival every first Friday, along with other special events throughout the year in their parking lot. There are three venues within this building - the Murat Theatre (think classier shows/productions usually); the Egyptian Room (think Ed Sheern before he was big and mostly general admission); and the Deluxe (think the hipsters and mostly general admission too). The venue is overall a pretty typical venue for concerts and special events. It can be a bit confusing, especially when there are two or three events going on, so just ask an employee and they'll help you get around. Why four instead of five? It just doesn't blow my mind away and each of the venues have their own flaws. Good venue, but not the best. read more

The Murat is doubtless the most "exotic" building in Indianapolis proper. Visitors from out of town often ask if it's a mosque when they see the minaret-like spire rising above the main building. It's not, of course, a mosque, but it sure is nice to have something that even remotely resembles one downtown. I love the design of this theater, from the facade painted on the walls out front to the mirror-embellished interior. I came to see Chick Corea here this spring, and have no complaints in terms of the sound, the lighting or any other aspect of theater operations. I appreciate that you can take your drink into the theater. The only thing I found odd was that, when I left the show halfway through, I was asked if I would be returning. I wasn't going to be returning, but if I had been, I'm not sure why I wouldn't be allowed to leave the premises and come back. Other than that, I can't think of anything bad to say about the Murat. read more

I ended up going to the Women Who Whiskey event Wednesday March 13th. It was from 6pm-9pm, a nice crowd at the Old National Centre. Meeting new people, learning about the whiskey, and just having a good time. I'm personally not until whiskey due to the fact it's soooo strong, and it freaking burns! Lol. I did invite a few female friends which they had fun, and I only stayed at the event for 1hr. Some of my favorites from the event were from Hotel Tango drink called Charlie Cherry which was a smooth, sweet but not too sweet cherry drink. Bourbon Cream which was very light smooth, and sweet drink. It tasted similar to Bailey's Irish Cream. Moonshine mixed drink, and Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey very smooth taste, and it wasn't too strong. I was trying to stick to whiskey drinks that wasn't too strong since I was going to work Thursday early in the morning. So, overall W. W.W event was a great event, and the event is for a great cause that benefits the S. O. A. R that stands for the Street Outreach Animal Response it's an Indianapolis based non profit organization that works with people experiencing homelessness, or possibly crisis due to domestic violence. It had been years since I'd found myself inside what used to be known as merely the Murat Theater and is now known as Old National Centre. Smack dab in the middle of downtown Indianapolis, this old Masonic lodge turned entertainment center is built around an Egyptian theme and is an absolutely beautiful theater with solid acoustics throughout. Being an older theater, it does have drawbacks including less than posh seating and architectural barriers for sight lines and for individuals, like myself, who are in a wheelchair. I attended the recent John Hiatt concert, a concert for which I'd waited many years to finally get a chance to attend and was thrilled to get to attend it in a fine venue. While the theater does offer accessible parking, I was not in my own vehicle and did not have the appropriate tags to access it having ridden with a friend. On the plus side, the theater staff goes WAY above and beyond to ensure the comfort of its guests. My designated spot for the wheelchair was already prepared when I arrived, and I was offered any needed assistance. I will admit that my wheelchair has horrible brakes and I struggled with the theater's slanted auditorium. The theater staff got into action and actually came up with door stops that helped keep the wheelchair in place. I really appreciated their creativity and commitment. On the challenging side, the first experience inside the theater was with an over-zealous employee who proceeded to tell me about theater challenge's with restroom access and, according to my companion for the evening, seemed to be talking around me rather than to me. I've grown accustomed to disability stereotyping, but I could tell it really bothered my friend. That said, this employee was friendly and she clearly meant well. Prices for drinks, etc. are a bit high but not out of question for a bar/entertainment type setting. The t-shirt area was very wheelchair friendly and I was able to get to my seat with only minimal assistance (though I did have to chuckle that one particular employee had no clue about disability access). Visibility was fine for the vast majority of the concert. That is, until the encore when everyone stood up and my visibility went out the window. That was a shame, because it was my absolutely favorite song but that's always one of the hazards of concert attendance in a wheelchair. Overall, this is a venue that offers an accommodating staff and comfortable environment with great acoustics for live music or comedy. It is a facility that I'd recommend contacting in advance if you do actually have a disability to ensure your needs are met. My gut feeling is that you will be welcomed with open arms, though you might want to look into their VIP experience to ensure you have a better shot at actually seeing the stage throughout the entire show. read more

Here for Thursday's 7:30 Book of Mormon. Worst seating arrangement ever. The orchestra floor is practically level, so you cannot see over/past the person in front of you. Don't even get me started about the bathroom situation. A line all the way up the stairs? And I'm not sure if it's this particular show or Indianapolis, but what a rude crowd. People were still taking their seats 5-10 minutes after the show started. Most venues hold patrons back and let them enter at an appropriate time. Overall just a disappointing evening at the theater. The show and actors are wonderful through, so this is purely a review of the Murat/ONC. Pinot Noir was $10/glass, not bad. The Cloewes @ Butler is a much nicer/classier venue for off Broadway shows. read more

I purchased tickets for my sisters and I to see Trixie and Katya. The tickets I purchased were for the back row, an attendant came over and saw we were the only ones in the row and gave us royalty seats so we could watch from the balcony. The woman was so nice and the rest of the staff has been wonderful. 10/10 recommend, will definitely be coming here again! read more
