I knew there was a garage but I parked on the street a block away, which was the right decision as I heard it takes long to exit the garage after the show if you park there. It is such a beautiful space. When I got inside, it was unclear where I was supposed to go. But once I went to the right section,The seat was easy to find. However, unfortunately the people with poor etiquette ruined my experience a bit. Some were constantly talking during the performance, others took out a phone with a bright screen in when it was dark. I think they need to remind the audience to be courteous and respectful, although it is a common sense.

What a venue, what a show, what a night. I was at Nickel Plate District Amphitheater for the Built…read moreto Spill / Yo La Tengo concert, and it was amazing. Live music feeds the soul, and this concert fed me well. I've been listening to Yo La Tengo since high school, and Built to Spill since several years ago, and never did I anticipate that I'd see them in real life. They just lived in my mind and in my headphones as soul-nourishing entities. And yet, I got to see them play live! In Fishers, Indiana, of all places! I love that Nickel Plate District Amphitheater has been able to bring in some top-notch musical artists lately. It's so great to see bands that I consider elite playing so close to home. I don't even know if I should mention this. But, at one point, I left the venue proper, and was standing outside of the barriers. I could hear and see the concert as clear as if I were in the venue! One of the advantages of an outdoor concert venue. So, I don't know: If you happened to walk up to the venue and didn't have a ticket, but you were a big fan of the artist playing, you would get a satisfactory experience even just standing near this outdoor venue. I'm just saying! Nickel Plate makes it easy on its guests to get through the gates. You do not need a clear bag -- any bag will do, but they will check it. You're allowed to bring your own chairs and blankets. They say no outside food and beverages, but I had an unopened bottle of water in my bag, and they didn't say anything about it. Basically, this is a chill venue at which to see music. They don't allow you to bring alcohol, but if you wanted such a thing, there are two tents available with drinks for sale like canned cocktails, beer, sparkling wine and TCH/CBD-infused beverages. They will make you a gin and tonic, if you want. (Ask me how I know! Actually, don't.) There are also food trucks, with some very tasty food options. There's lots of room in the grassy general seating area to spread out. Everyone I came in contact with was super respectful of space. No one stood in front of me and blocked my view like I thought might happen. (This happens to me a lot -- it's all a part of being a shawty.) Overall, Nickel Plate was a great place to see two bands I love in an outdoor space on a perfect-weather day.

Last night, we drove from St. Louis to Indianapolis for the Garth Brooks concert at Gainbridge…read moreFieldhouse, and overall, I really enjoyed the arena and the experience. One of the biggest bonuses was the location. It was an easy walk from our hotel, and if the weather is warm, you can actually walk through the convention center, which is air-conditioned. That was a huge plus! There were also plenty of bars and restaurants along the way, so you have lots of options if you want to grab dinner or drinks before the event. As soon as we arrived, there were Fever signs and decorations everywhere. My girls are huge Indiana Fever fans, so of course I had to take approximately a million pictures for them! Even though Gainbridge is home to the Fever, I really appreciated that they didn't make the arena feel like it was only about the home team. There were plenty of photo opportunities and decorations specifically for the Garth Brooks concert, along with promotions for upcoming events featuring other artists and teams. It made the arena feel very welcoming to everyone, regardless of what brought you there. Every staff member we encountered, from the people outside to those inside the arena, was incredibly friendly and helpful. And they have a Chick-fil-A inside, which is always a win in my book! Our seats were up in the 200 level, which is definitely getting into nosebleed territory. The stairs were extremely steep, there wasn't a ton of legroom, and as a larger person, the seats felt a little tight. Once we got up there, though, we basically decided we weren't leaving until the concert was over because getting back up and down those stairs was an adventure! Thankfully, the concert itself was fantastic, so we didn't mind staying put. One of my favorite little details was the staff name tags. Under their name, they had the word "Drafted" along with the year they started working at the arena. I thought that was such a fun and unique connection to the team and a really clever way to make the staff feel like part of the organization. Overall, I really liked Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The location was convenient, the staff was fantastic, there were plenty of places to eat nearby, and I loved how they incorporated both the Fever and the Garth Brooks event throughout the arena. My only real complaint was the seating in the 200 level--especially the steep stairs, limited legroom, and tight seats. But the concert was amazing, the atmosphere was great, and we had an awesome night. I'd definitely come back to Gainbridge Fieldhouse; next time, though, I might try to get seats a little closer to the action!

Okay, so a rainy night a week before Christmas was probably not the perfect time to check out…read moreChristmas Nights of Lights at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. On the other hand, traffic was lighter and there was something Dickensian about the entire experience. This is exactly what you expect it to be, though perhaps a better experience than I expected it to be. It's a drive-thru experience of Christmas lights, a synchronized light show with lots of spectacle and holiday spirit to be found. The music broadcasts through your car radio (I was glad I was with friends since my radio actually doesn't work). Christmas Nights of Lights opens before Thanksgiving and runs through New Year's Eve. It's a rain or shine (or snow) event. A few things to know: You enter at Gate 3. Online reservations are required and no cash/credit is accepted at the ticket booth. There are no refunds as they sell a limited number of tickets for each night. You "may" be able to exchange for a different time/night depending on availability, however, this MUST be done no later than 10pm on the day the ticket is valid. Carload passes and group passes apply to single vehicles. Also, the height restriction of the entrance tunnel is 11 feet. I grew up without Christmas in my home and there's a certain nostalgia to this experience in terms of driving around and seeing Christmas lights. Obviously, this is quite a bit fancier and a lot more festive. Is the experience somewhat expensive sure? $38 for a carload up to eight. $58.50 for 9-15 people. $84 for 16-35 people. If you go for an earlier slot, you get a time slot range of two hours. If you go later, it's about 30 minutes for the experience. With a carload, it's not a bad price. Will it become a holiday tradition? Probably not. I enjoyed it, maybe even more because of the rain. It added a certain sparkle to it all. However, it didn't quite have the "wow" factor that makes me immediately think I can't wait to go back. This is a neat experience and certainly a fun one for larger families or children's groups, however, for singles and small groups it's likely a bit pricey and not a great value.

I think the past years seemed better…read more The price is somewhat steep for a single family. The music this year (2025) didn't seem as good as the past. The music is noticeably more religion-oriented this year than the past. I'm not sure who actually runs this but it seems weird on the state fair grounds. And this is coming from a Catholic family. I just prefer blasting the Christmas classics in the car, not some new age Christian metal that I'd get exposed to at one of those churches.

Every visit we encounter a clean venue and friendly staff, so our latest visit to see Summer Stock: Grease! was no different. I highly recommend checking out a show in one of Butler's many venues! Our post-show routine is to walk (or drive, depending on which spot we are seeing a show) down to Chatham and have some tasty wings and a beer before ending the night.

Excellent theater inside The Center for the Performing Arts…read more I have seen "And Then There Were None", "Wait Until Dark", "Sweeney Todd" and other shows here. There isn't a bad seat in the house. Parking is also in the same structure so in the winter you can park, leave your jackets in the car, and take the elevator down to the theater.
