Came here to get my passport renewed and thought I was in the wrong building because it was full of brides, but alas, I found the passport office! Entrance is on the west side of the building and there's a small parking lot on the the north side of the building that's metered. The passport office is the second door to the right and once inside you'll answer a few questions on the computer and then wait in the hall of brides for them to call your name. Cost is $110 for the passport book and they only take check or money order. I wasn't prepared with a money order, but I was able to get one at the 7-11 across the street off of Main and Civic Center dr. They do accept card for the $45 processing fee. I was in and out of there in about 35 minutes and had I been prepared I probably be done in 15 minutes. The inside of the court house is so cool since it still has that 40's or 50's look inside. Gorgeous courthouse. I was a photographer for a wedding here on Saturday. It was VERY busy but it only took about 10 minutes after signing in for the wedding to start. The ceremony is quick but the atmosphere is great for old school photos. The judges are kind and sweet when marrying people. They only let you stay in the room maybe 7 minutes after the ceremony is over so make sure you get the most important photos in there until you have to leave. There are a lot of people there so photobombs might happen so be careful. Also, parking is scarce and hard to find so make sure you try and uber if possible. Getting married at the Old Orange County Courthouse was a very pleasant experience :). I booked the historic courtroom 1 month and a half in advance. I emailed my inquiry to the email provided on the website and someone replied the same day confirming my reservation. (April 6 @ 2pm) I did not have to leave a deposit as they told me everything would be paid at the day of signing of our marriage license. The historic courtroom seats up to 60 guest and is an additional $100 for 1 hr. I also made an appointment 1 month in advance through the website for our marriage license. (April 6 @ 1:30) The day of the wedding fell on a Monday... court house was not busy. We arrived at the courthouse 15-20 mins before our appointment time to sign for our marriage license, once we got there we checked in through the computer and not even 5 mins later, the clerk recorder calls us in and explains the process to us.... we showed our identification cards, swore in and then signed our marriage license. Then our witness signed as well. Right then, we had to pay $189.00 ($89.00 for the marriage license & civil ceremony and $100 for the historic courtroom for 1 hr) After we signed and paid, she asked us to sit in the lobby, we waited about 10mins before they directed us and our guest to the courtroom upstairs. Ceremony began promptly at 2pm as I requested. I did have a bridal party we had 4 groomsmen, 4 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls and 2 ring bearer so we all were able to march down the aisle as the music played. They did not provide any music but they did allow us to bring our own music box that does not require an outlet as they stated there were no outlets. Our flower girls were able to throw flowers on the aisle with 2 exceptions: flower petals had to be silk petals (artificial) and someone from your team would have to pick up the petals after the ceremony as they stated there were no janitors to clean up. The clerk recorder who assisted us with our marriage license was the same person who did the ceremony. The ceremony was quick, simple, and perfect. We exchanged vows, said our I DO's and exchanged rings. The ceremony was about 10 mins or less. After the ceremony she informed us that we had the historic court room for an hr but after the ceremony we ended up leaving the room to takes pictures. We took pictures inside and outside of the building. All came out so great. I recommend this courthouse for people who is looking into a simple yet memorable wedding & the price fits the budget really well. Another thing, we are not from orange county so I requested our marriage license by mail, and we received it very quickly. It was a very great experience and I have no complaint. :) read more

Beautiful courthouse! We decided to get married here, and we wanted to use the old courthouse room. The fee for the room is $100 for one hour. I was able to book it with two weeks notice. The room seats up to 75, we only had 18 people, so it was perfect. We failed to make an appointment for the marriage license - my bad, but they were able to get us in within 30 minutes of us arriving. I recommend making that appointment so you don't have to stress that you won't get called in time. The exterior and interior of this building is gorgeous, I loved it. I know our pictures are going to be awesome when we get them back. Just a couple things to note - there is no air conditioning, so be prepared to be hot. The day we got married it was about 95 degrees and it wasn't that much better inside the building. There are also a lot of stairs, so be prepared to climb them in your heels that hopefully you broke in, which I didn't. Large staircase to go up to get in the building, and if you have the courtroom upstairs, you will be walking up two large flights. Also! Park across the street in the Civic Center parking garage. You do have to pay (we paid $7) but if you park at the court's parking lot it's only one hour max! I am so glad we decided to get married here. It's classy and super affordable! read more

We rented the upstairs courtroom ($100 for the hour) it was SO COOL! it's just such a great spot that's private and great for pictures. It cost $20 something bucks to have someone perform the ceremony for you, and you can do your own vows if you'd like. I booked the courtroom like 3 months in advanced and I grabbed the last appt on a Friday and it worked it great because the halls were empty for pictures. Honestly. It was a great place. Architecturally and historically it is a very cool building. Museum downstairs, actual courtrooms upstairs. The middle floor is used by the county for processing passports and also processing marriage licenses and performing civil ceremony marriages. The clerks here are awesome - very friendly and proficient at their jobs. The clerks, who are deputized to perform marriage ceremonies, seem to enjoy their jobs. They perform 15-20 marriages on a normal day but can do as many as 40 on a Friday. If you show up to get married it can take 15 minutes or so to get your license and then a short wait (less than half an hour) for your ceremony. The ceremony has all the wording and exchange of vows you would hear at a typical marriage ceremony minus any religious references. It takes about 10 minutes and they then give you a few minutes for photographs. If you want to cut down on your wait time you can make an appointment online. read more

Perfect venue for a simple recital of vows in a pretty historic setting. We had a small group of immediate family. There would have been room for more people. There are several spots that are nice for taking pictures. I am not sure if they have access for people with mobility problems. What a beautiful, historic facility, both inside and out!!! Architectural magnificence with quite a few artifacts displayed in cases throughout the facility. The main courtroom is filled with gorgeously crafted oak / oak trim and era specific antique furnishings. The stone steps that lead you up into the facility while somewhat crude, are rustic in design and have an unbelievable appeal and attractiveness to them. But... A quick word to the wise. If you plan on parking in the smallish, adjacent courtroom lot, you are limited to one hour AND you cannot add to it. Parking enforcement is Johnny on the spot and they WILL cite you immediately upon expiration. $56.00 worth of enforcement I might add. It's a scam I tell you!!! Do yourself a favor, park at the garage a block away and spend some time in this fabulous, historic facility. read more

My new hubby and I just got married here yesterday(9-9-11). We were running way behind schedule(our fault, not the courthouse!) and they still took us. We reserved the big courtroom upstairs because we had a huge group. Our wedding was very magical and we didn't need to go into debt over it, which is a relief!! Olivia was AMAZING at getting the paperwork done quickly. The inside of the courthouse is beautiful and the outside is just breathtaking!!!! We took TONS of pictures outside with our family and friends and wedding guest. Our only complaint, was that the courtroom was very hot because they had no A/C going. We just got married here on friday (7-24-15) ! Our appointment was at 2 but of course we got lost so we got there like around 2:20 lol ... I was freaking out but didn't really matter it was packed ! I had the worst experience here and sadly it was on my wedding day! I went 2 1/2 months ago to get my questions answered personally so that on our wedding day everything would run smooth. I also paid that day for our documents. Well on my wedding day, my personal friend, our officiant was not allowed to marry us, my daughter was not allowed to be our flower girl even though I mentioned we would pick up the rose petals after. I was also overcharged ceremony fees, that I had already paid for 2 1/2 months ago and showed receipt's for. I requested to speak to a supervisor who was no help, she said I could pay $600 for the upstairs private room. The officiant who ended up marrying us (city hall employee) did not look presentable. She had faded color dyed red hair and facials piercings. It's unfortunate to have to experience all this at the start of our wedding day. My advice, train your employees on your policy and guidelines to prevent miscommunication from happening and have your staff dress and look professional!!!! read more

This is a beautiful building to walk through. It's open to the public since The Clerk's office is located there, so you can just drop in anytime during business hours just to see inside...It's lovely! The exterior of the building is really nice also! Sometimes when I just need a little break, I'll take a walk over to this building! If you need to get a passport, they process applications here also ... in addition to conducting weddings! And of course, several movies have been filmed here ... the latest being J. Edgar. I have mixed feelings about my review. Here's why- I made an appointment about 1.5 months in advance to have a Saturday ceremony. When I called in two weeks before the wedding to make sure I knew what to bring with me and also to ask a few questions, the most typical government employee tried her hardest to get me to hang up the phone. At this point in my life I'm seasoned enough to not let these miserable types keep me from getting what I need so I kept her on the phone, asking her every question I had. My main concern was having filled out my application and selected a time. I wondered if that appointment time was strict or if I could be flexible with when I showed up. (The answer is you don't need to be there at your exact appointment time if you fill out your application online. It does save you the time there of having to do it which is ultimately what changed our fate on our wedding day.) This miserable government worker told me that they close at 4:30 so I needed to be there by 4. Fast forward to my wedding day, my husband and I walk up the steps and pull on the door and it's locked! The security tells us we are too late, we had to have checked in by 3. What???? And at that moment I checked my phone and it was 3:01. Ultimately we had our ceremony bc the security was nice enough to forward our plea to the office employees. Someone was feeling very generous and they took our appointment. She asked if we had filled out our application and I don't think we would've married that day had we not. My husband later told me that he heard the security guard say four times that she has never seen them make an exception. The ceremony, while feeling kind of crazy bc of everything that happened before, was super sweet. Like everyone said, the words the officiant fave were very sweet. And bc we were the last couple we got to take pictures with no one else in the background. So if you have a Saturday appointment to marry get there by 3! Monday-Friday get there by 4. read more

We just got married here yesterday. We applied online for marriage license but then the ceremony appointment booking online was fully booked so we decided to just come there early around 10:30am and get our license and also book an appointment. It was easy! After logging in to their computer someone will call you to verify info from your marriage online license application and then they will ask you to wait and after 10min we were able to proceed with our wedding ceremony. The courtroom looks so nice and very intimate i love it! We spent 90usd all in all for license and ceremony. We Definitely made the right choice of having our ceremony here :) we did it on Sat. It wasn't that crowded with couples but it was crowded because of the guests. Tip is if you didn't book ceremony online just come early so you can find parking :) read more

My husband and I were looking for a place to have a budget wedding that didn't look cheap. We found it at the Old Orange County Courthouse, where we were married last Friday. For a mere $100 we rented the historic court room on the third floor for an hour. That rate included the officiant, who was lovely. There was plenty of seating in the courtroom for our 60+ guests. The room was gorgeous! There's an elevator to the third floor if you have guests that can't do stairs. It was easy, affordable, and beautiful. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Just be aware that parking is a little hard to come by. The court lot is very small but there is metered parking on the street and paid parking lots within a short walk. read more

We came here to get my passport processed and if you wanna get your passport done quickly, come here, even if you come from Los Angeles county, it's worth coming here. We processed my girlfriends passport at the Van nuys post office passport office and that took 3-4 hours. When we came to the old Orange County courthouse to process my passport, we were in and out in 10 minutes. I recommend anyone that is less then 45 minutes away from this place to come here and process new passports, then this is the place to come. They also do your passport photos here for $15, and they DO NOT charge extra to make copies of your license that they send with your passport application. And you can even fill your form out on their computer and print it there on the spot for FREE!! For those that forgot their application at home or want to do their passport application spontaneously, just bring your birth certificate and ID. The staff here is very very friendly, I recommend this place 100 percent. 5 stars!! read more

We applied for our marriage license today, it was such a breeze! You can fill out the forms online at https://cr.ocgov.com/marriageappointment/ Appointments are also available online at three different places: Santa Ana, Laguna Woods and Fullerton. We chose Santa Ana because it's closer to my work and we have to come here during lunch because they are only open M-F between 8am + 4.30pm So...the application process is quite easy. Complete online. Make an appointment if you want a specific place, time and date. I didn't make an appointment and just showed up at 1.15pm today. As you enter, a girl behind the counter will greet you and ask you your purpose for being there, if you applied online and if you made an appointment. Then she sends you next door to the public computers to check in. She said it'd be approx 20min wait but they called our name within 5minutes. The lady who processes your paperwork asks you a few questions, you pay the fee ($61 for a public license, $65-$67 for a confidential license), she asks you to raise your right hand and promise that you've completed the form to the best of your knowledge, you sign and she gives you the certificate along with the manila envelope. Bam, you're done and ready to get married within 90days! The person who marries you must sign on the day, along with the witness, and it's their responsibility to send it back to them for processing within 10 days (or so?) and then you have to follow instructions to apply for a marriage certificate because they don't print or mail anything to you otherwise. I guess I can review this part in a couple of months! It's much faster if you have pre-completed the information online and submitted first. You can also get married there on the spot for around $28 I think, we didn't look at this option but a couple next to us were getting married at 2pm! The building itself and the surrounding area is quite beautiful. Historic indeed. You can park behind the building, metered parking. We put coins in for 45mins but definitely only needed 10-15 max. I just got married here in June of 2014, and the staff made my day perfect. After sitting in the front and taking beautiful photos(rustic feel), we were escorted to the ceremony room. We exchanged vows in front of all of our family friends for 80 dollars, and it was adorable. In the future we will renew our vows when we have more money, but this place was unique and special in every detail.
