However, the process was actually not that bad - I was in and out in about 20 mins. The office itself was very clean - one of the cleanest, well kept SSA offices I've been to. My least favorite about this trip was the waiting to be called part, but once called, it was all smooth sailing. And honestly, I think you're all with me on that one: nobody likes the waiting part. I love the efficiency of the entire team here, including the two absolutely stellar, sharp. approachable and very helpful armed security guards on the 5th floor. A special thank you to the very nice guard downstairs who held the main door open for me. I really appreciate Miss W's assistance with helping me get a physical & duplicate social security card plus explaining and printing out my Social Security Delayed Retirement Credits( DRC) as I am 68, have not availed of my Full Security benefits at my FRA - full retirement age and loving getting that 8 percent increase every year. I made an appointment here and was first in line before they opened. The guy behind me was telling me horror stories about this location and what he had been thru. I told him I hoped my time here wouldn't reflect what he was telling me so I went in as they opened and scanned the kiosk and got my number. I was called to a window after a short wait and was greeted by Jamie. This young lady was the epitome of professional and friendly and took care of the business I had in a very prompt manner. Along with having a fantastic personality, I feel she might be in the wrong profession. She has the looks of a model and could definitely pursue that career if she ever decided she didn't wanna work for the govt anymore. I had a wonderful experience in this place every one did their job, in a very profesional and fast time process, I show up without appt and I wait less then an hour and the office was full so I was blessed that they gave me the opportunity and help me giving me my EBT. the social worker was very polite and helpful. Terrible service. They "lost" our appointment and made us sit for 50 minutes while she "looked" for it. Rather than servicing the public (their job description) the clerk told us to reschedule for a month from now. Clerk could have serviced us in 15 mins instead. The cherry on top was we had to pay for an hour of parking (3-20 mins increments) and the pay station had us stuck at behind the bar for 15mins! The fee was paid, but the machine couldn't register the ticket. The call-attendant tried servicing us on the intercom for 7 whole minutes, aggravating the line behind us-rather than manually lifting the bar to speed up the process. WORST OFFICE ever. We had to visit social security because the government website hotline didn't work and unfortunately, the site doesn't allow you to make an appointment online as easily. The security guard at the front entry was the most helpful person and gave us another number to the local branch and we didn't have to go in - they took care of it over the phone. Worst. When i called to make an appointment they told me to walk in and bring the documents. That what i did . Then i paid for parking because they don't have free one. After what i was sat and told to wait my turn to be admitted . After waiting for half an hour and being called to the window i have not even been greeted by worker at window 8 right away she came up rude "you don't have appointment so we can't admit you and here is the piece if paper with our website where you should go an make appointment and come another day" . I have been trying to get Medicare A & B going for a couple of months. My past employer, UCOP, was helpful but didn't communicate well and were incompetent. I tried going the online route with the SSA. The process was painful and the communication was medieval. Local SSA offices didn't have access to applications that I made on the SSA.gov site. Then I spoke to two different people at the Social Security Administration in Santa Ana Ca over the phone. The communication was clear and the response was quick and efficient. It was great to talk to an individual that could see the issues, give correct answers, explain my status, and move the process along. I believe the staff deserves an ice cream party. read more

Worse than the DMV. No longer do they accept walk-ins/ or without an appointment. To make an appointment you have to call a 1-800 number. Be ready to wait 2 hours or more on the phone waiting to speak to a live agent. In a modern commercial tower building with a dedicated elevator that goes only to the 5th floor to the SSA office. Parking is pricey, $2/20 min, up to max of $18, so expect to pay close to that for parking cos nothing ever goes fast at SSA. Even with an appointment, it took 30 mins past that to get me in. People working there are really nice though, so don't take out your frustrations with all the governmentsl red tape on them read more

Parking here is ridiculously expensive , 8$ an hour and workers seems very irate (possible due to being understaffed and underfunded). Walk-in service is available now. Santa Ana SSA office's phone number is 888-366-6146. A lady who answered my phone was unprofessional and just told me to go to the SSA office without telling me what I should bring. I felt like calling them to resolve an issue was a bit useless so I recommend going to the office. There is a parking fee which you will get a ticket when going in, and pay when you drive out. (Was about 6 dollars for a bit less than an hour). When you walk into the building, the elevator to the SSA is on the right side, there's a sign that tells you where it is. 5th floor. There will be security personnel briefly checking your personal items, and they will ask you to get a waiting ticket on the left side. You input your information into the machine, which will print out your ticket. There are monitors on the walls where you can check the waiting numbers but they will call your ticket number and their window numbers when it's your turn. Extremely busy. A lot of people are waiting to get called even in the early morning time, so I would just recommend to be patient. Waiting time can be about 30 minutes to an hour. (Morning time). If need to go to the restroom, I would check the waiting numbers on the monitor and use common sense whether I should wait or go. Should probably tell the security personnel that you are going to the restroom. The office seemed like they were super understaffed, and probably are backlogging on a lot of cases. I had a young Asian gentleman on window 8? 9? who was helping me out who was fairly neutral and wasn't rude at all. Even if they are rude which I've interacted with a lot when going to government agencies, just remember that they are just rude to everyone and not particularly to you, so don't stress out too much. Felt kind of bad for the employees who were working there since the SSA usually underpays them and they are constantly facing angry people for 8 hours a day. Not only this office but also all the other SSA offices should hire more employees. Summary: Employees in the physical office were fairly nice, but phone service employees were a little bit unprofessional. I would like to give this post a 0 star, but Google review doesn't allow that. I came to the Santa Ana location to submit a form to appeal a decision. I believe the employee's name was Mr. Holiday (young, Caucasian gentleman) and gave me the wrong information. I waited an hour before my number was called up, I briefly explained the reason I was here and he informs me that I need to go to MediCal to deal with Medicare issues. He then told me he can submit the form I presented and that it would do nothing and then told me that he cannot disclose any more information because my grandmother was not present. I told him that was not the issue at another location and he proceeded to give me the form back and to go to that location. I WASTED an hour, PAID for parking PLUS not getting my issue resolved. I went to Public Social Services that handles MediCal and informs me that the form I'm submitting is a document that Social Security takes. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT I WAS TURNED AWAY FROM THE OFFICE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO ACCEPT THE FORM. I do not think that he (Mr. Holiday) belongs in customer service if he has that kind of attitude. He may be having a rough day from another encounter, but that should not roll over to the next customer that he is supposed to help. Looks like they lost it. They say they will put us on hold to double check if they can find it, and they hang up instead. 5 times!!!! I tell the lady to look at the camera, and she refuses. I don't know why this place has such low ratings... I thought everyone I encountered during my visit was pleasant! I was in and out the door in 40 minutes. Keep in mind I believe your wait time will depend on your reason of visit. They have separate queues for different visits. Name changes and/or corrections seem to go quickly. Also keep in mind that I went in right before 9am (opening) on the Friday right before Christmas so maybe that's why wait wasn't so bad. This office treats people unfairly. I am diabetic, I waited 2 hrs and I went to get some sugar so I won't get out of control with sugar. I told the security guard that I need to go and he said yes. When I came back, they told me to start from beginning, this is ridiculous! If I have to go to president Donald Trump about this, I will, that's being totally unfair. If I pass out due to my illness, I will sue social security. The security guard told me I could and I came right back and now I have to wait all over again. Just not right I changed from 1 Star to 3 star, I took another ticket and was called almost immediately. Went in on a Tuesday afternoon for a replacement social security card.... Actually we got there about 3:50pm (thought they closed at 5). The guards were very nice, got my purse checked and went in to the check in kiosk to get a number (similar to the DMV process). Everyone was super nice and we were out of there by 4:30.. Crowded and busy, I have to give credit for government workers who deal with this day and out. If it were me I'd go insane with screaming kids and coughing adults. I was there with my wife and two kids on a Wednesday morning, after the security clearance check on my bag, a Asian lady, a staff member was helping us getting our ticket number printed, she is so helpful and polite. The place is not crowded and please remember that Wednesday is a half day until 9-12pm. When our number was called, Williams is our representative, he is a well mannered person and work efficiently, he spoke to us with respect and explains everything clearly. He is a very patient person who listens to our questions and responded to us with respect. We could see that he is a responsible person and doing his job well. We are not sure of other representatives but Williams is very helpful and hard working professional. I went in with my daughter for her yearly review and the young male worker was extremely nice and helpful. I believe his name was Mr. Bowen but I could be mistaken as we missed the appointment she had scheduled the day before due to medical reasons and received a call from Mr. Bowen to reschedule. We went in the following day and were seen within 30 minutes. The lady worker who at the window was also pleasant. In regards to the security guards they deal with a lot of people who are confused and combative.
