The entire trip was great. My wife and I had family visiting from Florida and we wanted some type of experience that would be relaxing but unique. I came across Old Plank Sailing Adventures and Captain Mancini. He offered a lot of variety in his packages and seemed to be geared to more of a boutique and concierge experience which was precisely what we were looking for. Once we booked, he provided all the necessary information about the experience: when to show up, where to go, what to bring, what not to bring, etc. which was very helpful and allowed us to plan our trip effectively. Once we arrived to the docks, Captain Mancini was warm and welcoming. He escorted us to his sailboat and we got started right on time. Captain Mancini worked to make sure everyone was comfortable on the boat and began to give a brief history of Marina del Rey. He was knowledgeable, interesting and engaging. He made the entire experience very relaxing and his stories were very funny. His hors d'oeuvres and chilled rose wine were freshly prepared on the boat and were delicious and refreshing. We went around the marina for about 2 hours and we were encouraged to move around the boat, dip our feet into the water and to enjoy our time. The overall experience was fantastic. The trip is worth the cost and then some. This is the perfect thing to do with family, on a date, for a small group of friends, etc. and Captain Mancini offers a variety of choices to really augment someone's personal interests - there is a sunrise tour to see wildlife, a sunset cruise, moonlight cruise to see the stars, a longer experience that involves going to seafood markets off the coast, choosing fresh food items and preparing a meal onboard. So no matter what your interests are, you'll find something that will tickle your fancy with Old Plank Sailing Adventures and Captain Mancini. Highly recommend!!! read more

Had the most peaceful day sailing with friends thanks to Old Plank Sailing Adventures. They were able to accommodate us with fairly short notice, and were super communicative throughout booking. We sailed up along the Santa Monica coast, saw sea lions and dolphins, and enjoyed freshly prepared snacks made by the captain - a very tasty smoked trout crudite that tasted like it was made at a high end restaurant. This past Saturday (9/17/22) I went out on my third sail with Captain Matt and Old Plank Sailing Adventures. I can't speak highly enough of the entire experience, from beginning to end. Captain Matt is extremely responsive, offering detailed instructions on arrival, items to bring/not bring, costs and the payment process. Upon booking, he sends out a text with detailed instructions - the humor injected into it makes it a really fun read! Upon arrival, Captain Matt will greet you, allow you to use the restroom at the Marina before leaving, and, like a gentleman, will carry your bags to the boat. Once on the boat, Captain Matt allows you to play your own music on his speaker, asks what you'd like to drink and tells you to settle in for a wonderful few hours on the water! Captain Matt's service is impeccable - from getting drinks, to making his delicious snacks, to even helping those who might begin feeling sick out at sea. Our group was never left wanting or needing anything. This was downright on of the coolest experiences and adventures I've ever been on, if not the most awesome in all honesty. I was a little skeptical at first because I found this through a search on a random Facebook site (I know.. I know..), but it was the best find ever. The booking was straightforward. You pick from the various options the captain offers. I booked a 3 hour sunset cruise for my girlfriend and me to celebrate our anniversary. I booked online and promptly got a confirmation for the booking. The following day I was fully approved for my date and time. After I booked, which was about a month to month and a half before, it was pretty quiet. The cap knows his stuff though because the day I was going to email him and reach out he texted me to touch base. He wanted to confirm final small details and asked about food accommodations (which was super cool because my girlfriend is allergic to nuts). He answered all my questions and provided tons of information that was extremely helpful. The day of, we arrived to the dock to meet Captain Mancini! He's a super chill, super laid back, and super funny guy. He made the experience all the more pleasant. His sail boat was also very nice and very well kept. His pupper was just as cool as him! While in the Marina he prepared a glass of some delicious Rose and he made the most delicious snack I've ever had with wine in my life (a recipe which we've tried to imitate time and time again honestly). So we took off and set sail. Once we hit the real ocean, he shut off the engine and let the wind do the work. From here on out it was the absolute most relaxing experience ever. We caught the wind and it was just pure bliss. I might add the weather and skies were just totally on our side that day, something that unfortunately we can't really control. But that day was just all around perfect weather. Once we returned to the marina we just swayed in the water for a while. We were given a light show with the captain's under-boat lights and listened to some very romantic music (which I must say, Cap definitely knows how to amplify an atmosphere with music and he has phenomenal taste). After this, we returned to the dock and headed on home. This was a very surprising experience- in the best of ways. Matthew was beyond amazing. We did a burial at sea and it was just our family on the boat and he literally fit right in. He helped my dad who has Parkinson's to and from the bathroom and even gave him sweatpants so he could be nice and dry since his diaper leaked a bit.
