Virtually every step of the process with these people has been laborious, inefficient, and WAY more…read morecomplicated than necessary - due to unprofessional, incompetent communication and a lack of attention to detail. The fax number on their letterhead is NOT in operation, requiring several frustrating attempts before learning that one must fax requested materials to a different number. The phone number on the letterhead rang and rang, with NO ANSWER and NO MESSAGE. Several emails later, another phone number was provided. Most emails from these folks consisted of incomprehensible gibberish, requiring several back-and-forth exchanges to discern the meaning. One such multiple-email exchange turned out to be THEIR asking ME to look up an address on Google, and provide it to them, so they could provide it to one of their people. Apparently, they either have no Internet access, or the clerk assigned the task wasn't up to so demanding an assignment. Several residents of my neighborhood have asked for my realtor's info - I've told them that, when they contact her, ask which escrow company she plans to use. If it's Chicago Title, they're better off with another realtor...

We've used these guys twice, once when we purchased and just recently for our refinance. The first…read moretime they were fine. This time though, we wouldn't have closed on time if I hadn't got the mortgage company on their case. They left a vague message that didn't make any sense on my husband's phone. He had no idea what it was about because he was working and I was handling the refinance. He tried to relay the message to me but it didn't make any sense. I tried calling the number he gave me but just got voice mail. I left a message, but 24 hours later still hadn't received a call back. In the mean time, I kept trying to reach someone, anyone, at Chicago Title but nobody answered the phones. We had to close the following day and this was about money they needed from us so I was getting a bit worried. The mortgage company confirmed that it had to be settled immediately. That meant that instead of being able to send them a cashier's check, which I could have done for free, I had to now wire them the money, which of course costs $20. Not a huge deal but... why should *we* have to pay for it when it was because *they* wouldn't return calls? I was trying everything I could to get someone to get back to me so I could get them the money! My other complaint is that unless you use Microsoft Office, any correspondence with them is an ordeal. Every email we got was sent encrypted. I then had to save it to my computer, then go view it on a website, request an access code, wait for that to be emailed, enter the access code, then I could read an email that more often than not was useless. Bottom line, next time we purchase or refinance, I will specify that we won't work with Chicago Title. This was just too unpleasant. They only get two stars instead of one because they sent someone to our house so we could sign closing documents after my husband got off work. That was very convenient.
