The building can get crowded and harder to navigate on busy mornings. [TLDR] I'm not super into bagels so when my friends suggested that we go to Native Bagel, I wasn't sure if I'd be a fan. But their bagels are soooooo much better than anything you can get at the store. I mostly get their seasonal cream cheeses like the strawberry and pumpkin. I wish they had more cream cheese options. It does seem like they've been experimenting with different flavors and menu items recently. I like their coffee more than any other coffee shop in the area. I prefer my coffee on the sweeter side. I get the iced raspberry (or blackberry) white mocha. It's perfect! I like that I can order online. When you place an online order, they will set your order at the end of the bar near the door when it is done. The staff members are pretty nice. If you order at the counter, they will bring your food out to you. You have to throw away your trash when you are finished. The aesthetic is so pretty. I love the vibes. There are two single stall gender neutral restrooms located to the left of the order counter. They are decent size restrooms. My one gripe is about the size of the venue. It's small and a little crammed, especially since they put in the bar. At times, the place is hard to navigate as an able bodied person, so I'd imagine a disabled person with mobility issues or even someone with a stroller would have a harder time. There is a ramp to get into the main entrance of the building, however, the door is not automatic. I figure there's not much they can really do to solve the issue unless they expanded the building which I understand isn't quite feasible. I only bring this up because I love Native Bagel and I feel like it kinda does impair the experience a little bit. A person with a mobility aid would probably have as easier time navigating Just Love Coffee Cafe down the street than Native Bagel. If you go on Saturday morning it is often crowded! Be prepared to wait in line, and know that there may not be a free table to sit inside. I know this because my friend group and I went every week when we were enrolled at Berea College. There are a few tables outside by the parking lot. Also keep in mind that toward the end of the day they can start to run out of bagels. In the evening, they use the same venue for Nightjar, a bar and dine in restaurant.

It's one reason I don't go out for breakfast ~ I can make a pretty good breakfast at home. No use paying someone to do something I can do. So, going into Jackson's restaurant, a mom and pop restaurant specializing in home cooked style food, I had my doubts. Walking up to what resembled a school cafeteria lunch line only furthered my doubts. And, seeing the sheer number of different options sitting out behind the glass window only furthered my suspicions. Look, I was wrong. The food here is really good. The service is super friendly and helpful. I was so overwhelmed by all the choices I just told the lady behind the glass counter to pick me something. She obliged with a kindness that made me think she knew me somehow. She chose the chicken and dumplings, beef stew, apples, and two different types of corn bread. Now, I thought initially, and she even admitted, that the chicken and dumplings/beef stew mix was a little unorthodox, but that they were both so good I had to try them. Both were fantastic. The apples were awesome. I liked both types of corn bread. When I got up to leave, she called me over to the counter and said that since it was my first time there, I'd get a free dessert. You all, I was too full to even try. The food here is both tasty and filling. I was in Richmond for a conference at Eastern Kentucky University. So it was really convenient to stop by. But I'd say that even if you're remotely close, it's worth a visit. Don't, as I did, judge a book by its cover.

They sell products of the students' work, and I'm always struck by how underutilized Kentucky farm land seems to be relative to the food people actually eat here. The winter selection was modest, as one might expect, with greens, root vegetables, and mushrooms for sale, and a couple of hot lunch options and baked goods. Their chickpea dish was fine; nothing special but a decent lunch. Adding a cake pop was tasty; despite the semi-sweet chocolate flavor it was still definitely sweet. There was a lunch rush, and I imagine the locals fill the place up often.

All the meat sold in the store comes from the locally-grown cows and pigs. As a matter of fact, just about everything that is sold in the store comes from local farms that are worked by students from Berea College. Of course, there were various types of fruits and vegetables, grains sold in bulk, some dairy (cheese and ice cream) and soaps and cleaners. Different types of sandwiches are sold daily (Tuesday -Saturday) and the store was having a plant sale on the day that I visited. I really like the concept of students working and learning a skill as they attend school to get a degree. I cant say enough good things about this store. Its was very clean, the workers were friendly. Some prices were reasonable and some (soaps and cleaners) were maybe a bit high. But higher prices are expexlcted when supply is low. Certainly, I would support this store in the future.

It was $1.88 for a pint container, which would be $3.99 at a 7-11. The checker showed me pump 38 before ring in to make sure it was my car. I also had a chance to use the restrooms and they were clean and had a full time attendant cleaning and removing trash. Like others have said, this place is ginormous!!
