Lost a 20 year loyal customer. I never leave reviews and it's a long one, but please stick with me as what I have to say comes after thoughtful consideration as a long time patron. I've been coming here since my son was born 20 years ago - when it was 'Monica's Bakery' - and it's always been stellar. Best tuna sandwich I've ever had. As my daughter grew up she loved the egg salad sandwich, and the whole family were big fans of the delicious cookies. The quiche was also fantastic. Everything WAS positively cravable. I'm so sad to report now that the new ownership of 'Old Town Kitchen' has officially taken over it's gone way down hill. No longer will you receive fresh-baked pillowy bread for your "sammy" nor can you purchase a delicious loaf of that same bread to take home. No longer will you find the exceptional baked goods you're accustomed to. There's no longer choice as to what's in your sandwich, no more "build your own", they're now only "pre-built". The bread looks impressive but is udderly underwhelming. Dry as a bone and unpleasant. IT'S A TOTAL DEAL BREAKER. There's now largely more bread than filling where the opposite used to be the rule. I actually felt the need to remove half of the bread in order for it to be edible. Had the bread been soft & fresh that would've been unnecessary. The filling recipes have changed too. The tuna filling was previously perfection and now it's very...meh. Also while I'm not averse to onions, I didn't need them or want them in my filling. No more are the tasty pickles that elevated the already amazing sandwiches. Now it's a bag of chips or a tiny, and I mean miniscule, side of cold pasta salad. It's like 3 bites worth. Also sadly very lackluster in flavor and texture. The cookies and baked goods were all just generic looking frosted things and none seemed unique or even particularly appealing. While change is inevitable, the hope for a beloved locale such as this would be at the least, the constant of quality. The new ownership has not only changed the name but sucked out the heart & soul of the place. Remodeling a building cannot compensate for food devoid of quality and great flavors. There's no 'cravability' here. We are so very disappointed that after loving a local business for 20 years it's been gutted. There nothing here worth returning for, therefore we will not be returning. I definitely cannot recommend The 'OTK' to anyone, least of all the local loyals who have come to rely on this establishment for consistent quality because sadly it no longer exists. Swooped into town for a lil Seattle staycation around 2 and just wanted something light before dinner as we hadn't eaten all day. Walking in we were greeted by a jovial and gregarious man at the counter who was so welcoming. As it was later in the day, there weren't as many baked goods or quiches which I see they are rated for which is to be expected arriving late in the day. We ordered sandwiches made fresh to order on house made bread. I had my eye on the ginger cookie sandwiched with lemon frosting as well. The sandwiches hit the spot , light and refreshing to curb hunger until dinner time. Counter guy (sorry we didn't get your name you are awesome!) threw in an extra cookie sandwich, props buddy. Sitting there eating our sandwiches, we enjoyed the banter between the counter man and the back of the house talking about what they were making tomorrow. Wish we could've come back the next day for the mac & cheese, which they were talking about and sounded fabulous. TLDT; Cute little hole in the wall you might not ever discover without yelp. What a great little spot! Friendly staff in a funky but clean old building. The sandwiches are "build your own" with just one type of bread, thankfully it was house made and delicious. I opted for a avocado sandwich with lettuce, tomato and herbed cream cheese. The portions were perfect, ingredients were fresh and it was ready in no time. I really enjoyed it! I also had an iced green tea, which was made on the spot. Yummy as well, but I can't give them bonus points for the paper straw. If anything, that would be the only negative....and I'd hardly count that against them. I noticed they also had dog cookies - which I will absolutely buy next time for my doggies! They were adorable. And the baked goods looked great. It was a little late in the day when I was there so they didn't have the biggest selection, but what was there looked great. Monica's used to be my go-to place when I worked in Silverdale so I do have experience with their quality and quantities. I moved jobs and I hadn't been to Monica's in about 7 months so on a recent trip to Silverdale, decided to order lunch to go. Ordered the bacon, potato and cheddar quiche, almond croissant and an espresso drink. When I got home, I was stunned when I opened my to- go box and the quiche was HALF the size of what I have gotten in the past. Basically, take a pie and cut it into 12 pieces and that's how big the slice was. l found no bacon or even bacon flavor in the quiche, and 2 pieces of diced potato. The almond croissant was just like the frozen kind you can buy at Trader Joes. Frozen, proofed and baked. What happened to the amazing croissants from the past? And for this I paid $27 and a tip. Not worth it. Glad to see Old Town has added other eateries because Monica's is off my list going forward. read more

I ordered the bacon breakfast burrito. The burrito was an average burrito nothing that stands out. The fruit on the side was a nice little touch. I had a pumpkin latte and they put the coffee in a ceramic cup which is a big plus for me. The coffee was good but the pumpkin flavoring was not noticeable. The downstairs seating is a little cramped but the up stairs seating is amazing. Quiet and cozy with plenty of room and the decor is perfect. Lastly the staff was very friendly and helpful. Pleasantly surprised they had lettuce wraps which is great for someone like me that can't eat the carbs. They are very busy during lunch service and a line was out the door . I think it is because there is only one person taking orders and they aren't the quickest. Our food arrived fairly quickly... but I was underwhelmed with the lettuce wrapped sandwich. Much smaller than I thought it would be. But it was good. My mom had the egg salad sandwich, and again, while good, the portion of egg salad on the bread seemed very small. The cookies looked delicious... and the bread is house made, so the smells were divine. Found this hidden gem while passing through Silverdale on our way to Port Angeles and it was the epitome of a cozy, small town breakfast cafe. As soon as I walked in, the smell reminded me of being home for thanksgiving. The staff were SO friendly and helpful, and the ambiance was quaint and welcoming. There is a small seating area downstairs with additional seating upstairs. We got our food to-go, and were very impressed! My boyfriend got their ham and cheese croissant which was buttery and delicious. I got a slice of their crab, asparagus and mozzarella quiche. It's made with duck eggs so it was extra rich and tasty! Both came with a breakfast roll and fruit, and the staff were kind enough to heat it up for us before we got back on the road. Super cute little place. If it's busy, it can be a little hectic, but they do their best. Right across from the water front, we decided to check out a few options for our son who sails there on the high school time and sometimes wants a quick bite. This place delivered. While we haven't had much yet, we look forward to coming back and trying a little bit of everything. We got a couple drinks, a white chocolate raspery croissant and it was delicious. We also brought home a dog bone for the pups and they seemed pleased as well! Been years since I first reviewed Monica's! Back when I had a salad with a baby slug in it! Lifted up a leaf and showed the woman behind the counter. Was offered my money back. Not enough when there's a slug! But I ended up drinking coffee there a few more times. Lots of times; it was nearby. So many places have come and gone; Monica's remains changeless. In the past, enjoyed being able to just drop in for coffee and a sandwich. Cooked food, though, was never great. And after the slug, didn't trust the uncooked stuff either. But mistakes happen. But hadn't been there this year (2020) because of covid19 keeping me at home. When I got an ad for pizzas from Monica's, even though I did remember they didn't make good ones, I thought maybe they'd improved over time. We ordered two pizzas for delivery during this coronovirus nuisance -- and got the free prize of two pieces of tiramisu (worst tiramisu we ever had! Tasted like Hershey's syrup squeezed onto dried out Twinkies). . Alas, alas, the pizzas are still as lousy as when I learned, years back, never order those. In this age of Thin Crust, they still can't make one. The four-cheese pizza is decent enough for flavor just not much cheese actually on this thick crust, so more like cheese bread. The mixed veggie had only one cheese, I don't know which kind, it was absolutely flavorless. Way too little red sauce on both pizzas, almost couldn't taste that either. And the veggies very thinly spread. So both pizzas have a paint-thin layer of ingredients. Update: Harassed repeatedly by the owner (as she does to anyone she hates for a bad review) so will never have even the coffee there again and no loss to me. Telling my buddies to keep away too, but sending face book folks to yelp to read the reviews with the owner trying to rip off the heads off anyone not particularly satisfied by bad meals, especially her assaults on G.D. and Jeannie N. which show a strong streak of malignant narcissism and accidentally funny as hell. read more

This place is amazing! I had the Dungeness Crab quiche and it was the best thing I've eaten in a long time! So yummy and flavorful! The soup of the day was tremendous as well. Smoky blue tomato I think it was called. So we'll seasoned! What you dream tomato soup tastes like! I also got a coffee and some baked goods--lemon blueberry scone and a Mexican chocolate cookie sandwich with cream cheese frosting...the textures and balance of flavors were delectable! Oh! Terrible Customer Service at Monica's Cafe. So disappointed! ‍‍ Delaney is the absolute worst! She was extremely rude to my mother and I while we tried to order our lunch on Tuesday, August 11th @monicascafe Delaney was very short and condescending with us, always cutting us off when we had a question about the menu. She had so much attitude and negative energy from the moment we stepped into @monicascafe To top it all off, Delaney literally asked out loud, "Would you like to leave a tip for the bakers and also for the birthday meal you don't have to pay for?" Way to make a customer feel special, right??!! Even after leaving a tip, Delaney proceeded to the mumble the words, "Ok, now I really need to get off work now." Ya think? Miss Thang, you should have NEVER come to work with that type of attitude and negative energy. You have no idea what people are going through and shame on you for putting your negative energy on us. Delaney is an absolute disgrace to your company @monicascafe and deserves to be called out for her poor customer service. My mother and I simply wanted to support our local businesses during the pandemic and order some takeout for lunch from @monicascafe Now we are not so sure we want to support this business any longer. And just to be clear, every other employee there was so sweet and kind to us. They even stepped in and politely answered our questions about the menu. It was specifically Delaney who was rude to us and just vile. Zero empathy and Zero Patience. ‍‍ Never Again! Completely disappointed and upset #monicascafe Update: My mother called to cancel her special order for a berry tart and requested a refund @monicascafe Delaney answered the phone and of course she gave her lots of attitude. She basically said the cafe was closed (over 30 min early). The next day my Mom also filed a complaint about Delaney via Phone and the owner Monica did not even apologize. She said she's never heard any complaints about Delaney before this. Total BS!! And to top it all off, Monica said she would send a refund check in the mail which took over 4 days to arrive. She actually sent a card (with refund check) which was very insincere and again, just basically took Delaney's side and just looked after her rather than the customer. She said Delaney was taking some time off to relieve the stress she's going through. Thanks for the refund but we will definitely NOT be returning to @monicascafe I suggest you do the same. ‍‍ Also, a more appropriate TIP to give to Delaney would have been: To actually have patience and appreciate your job, and treat your customers with kindness and respect! Edit: Card was charged at 12:18 and I left at 12:45 when I called my girlfriend. Your system is wrong. It was just shy of 30 mins. You are right it was 2 cookies, a cupcake and a muffin. All from the display case that should have taken 30 seconds to grab. I said I've been waiting 30 mins for a cookie out of the case. She rudely said I'm very sorry as she turned her back and left. I said figure it out. No continuous yelling. Just a rude employee and a frustrated customer. I wasn't the only one with their eyes rolling at the wait. We are super glad we stopped in to check out this amazing little bakery/cafe while we were doing business in Silverdale. We both has delicious breakfast burritos which they heated for us and came with fruit (what a lovely surprise). We also bought a loaf of wheat bread that had just been taken out of the oven. Oh, did I mention the shortbread cookies we bought for later...they may not make it until later!
