I am very pleased and happy whenever I stop in. Also the pinch groceries they stock is perfect. Sure the price is a little higher than big box stores but when I can send my son on his bike to grab an item I need while cooking is incredibly convenient and worth it. The selection of their alcohol is actually pretty impressive and the allocated pricing is fair compared to the secondary market. Every person working the counter is always friendly and helpful. If you're ever in Old Orcutt I'd recommend this business even to just stop in and grab a snack or beverage. They stock some local items which is always appreciated. The interior is pleasant and redone. When I go in at night I have witnessed a thorough cleaning of the floors inclusive of pulling wine and bottles from the rack to dust and white down. Local Eval.: Since this rather cool building has been in the middle of an Old Orcutt recent controversy, I will defer much of an opinion depending upon how things turn out over time. The ownership & direction has changed since any of the older reviews, but for now, they still have both alcohol & some degree of limited groceries. It is undoubtably a work in progress, at least according to local news. Fortunately for the residents of Old Orcutt, they still have sort of a neighborhood limited grocery here, but maybe not quite as much as in the past. The new owners who also run a nice eatery/liquor store in Pismo, do have experience with doing both...so we can hope for the best. Since I was just stopping in for the history of this old building, I was not here for groceries, but I did have a look. They did have Strauss milk and some Veges, & "7-11" type stuff, but really nothing in the way of a Deli, as of yet. What they did have that really pleased me, was quite an interesting assortment of super-local hard-to-find hard liquors/spirits and more obscure local wines. I loaded up on several bottles. The hard alcohol came from tiny distillers in Grover Beach & Atascadero, and some more came from larger still local distillers. Some of the wines looked to be quite interesting and with the help of the quite friendly fellow who worked there, I picked out a few bottles. On at least one day of the week, a local food truck does park outside, which is a nice thing for this area. Not too far down the way, are a growing number of breweries, eateries, & more. Old Town Orcutt is getting more touristy & this comes with the price of losing the ole town feel. In some ways it is sad, since this area has a cool, almost forgotten history, that I carry on about in some of my other Orcutt reviews, so I will not burden you with the same info... In any case, this store is a part of the more recent history of this town, and is a sign of the changing times. Ironically, the old long defunct Pacific Coast Railway created this town, and now few traces remain, except for a "right of way" down the road & the shell of an old storage warehouse, that now functions as an Antique Warehouse. In stark contrast to vintage Old Town Orcutt, you have super-modern places like Blast 825 nearby, with many dozens of automated high tech taps. At least in Old Town Market, you still can get your desired drink out of a good ole bottle like the old days! P.S.- Recent research shows that absolutely any amount of alcohol shrinks your brain over time. Please do not drink, drink a minimum amount, & if drinking...be responsible! Just wanted to give a brief update to OTM. Tri-tip sandwiches have been happening weekly lately and Josh only continues to improve. I think the thinness of the meat and uniqueness of his seasonings make it one of the best tri-tips sandwiches around Beer selection is improving, wine selection remains eclectic and well priced. Weekly wine tastings are a lot of fun and now there are beer tastings twice a month (second and fourth fridays). come on out, you'll likely see me around either buying beer, serving beer, eating a sandwich or drinking wine. read more

If you have grown homesick for "how things used to be", then just walk thru Old Town Market and you'll get a wonderful dose of nostalgia. From it's narrow aisles, to its "busy" displays of goods for sale (w/out a lot of supplemental advertising clogging the shelves), to it's square-shaped cashier's stand -- this place is old school! Otherwise, the best thing about the store? One of the best wine offerings in the local area (Santa Maria, Lompoc, Vandenberg)!! I went to pick up a drink on my way through to SF, and thought I'll visit some out of the way place. Orcutt it is!! This place just happened to be a place to stop by. I don't know if this is THE market in town, but it sure felt like it. While I was picking my drink of choice, 3 customers came at different times and struck a conversation with the cashier. Not like a "how are you doing", but like "did so-and-so get the job?". I love places when the customer knows the workers and vice versa -- it really adds to the feeling of a place. Had a good amount of drink choices, both alcoholic and not, considering the location of the place. What I expected a market in a cowboy main street type of town. read more

Horrible mean spirited staff. Manager was asked by a little kid to use the bathroom as people where paying for some items. He said no and the kid started crying. I was about to purchase a hundred dollars worth of goods and left them there. What happened to people that can't help a child? I told other people and they left as well. Disgusting people work there. Surprisingly excellent, diverse selection of wine! They have the most local wines I have seen in one place, wines from around the world, and prices are so good! I bought several $20-$30 bottles for less than $10 a bottle and the owner is so knowledgeable about all the different wines - mind boggling that he can keep them all straight. Stopped by the market today after getting my hair cut and feeling like I needed to unwind a little before the work week. This is such a great place to grab some bottles of locally sourced craft brew. If you're into wine, even better (have yet to browse that section). Having relocated recently from OC, I was honestly worried I'd have trouble finding a store where I could pick up some beer, chat with the employees, and head home and enjoy with the wife.... Waste of time. The garbage and junk all around the outside of this store tells the story of what's going on in the inside. The food on the shelves looks like it's been there awhile. My wife is short and could not see over where they prep food. I tried to tell her it might not be a good idea to order food from here, but she did anyway. On our way back home i had told her about the nasty counter tops and old dirty rag that was being used and she finally gave the sandwich to the dog. The next morning the dog had diarrhea all over the living room carpet. What a mess, i rolled it up and put it outside with the dog. Never again! T.B. read more

Large selection of craft beers, some refrigerated, some on store shelves. I bought a six-pack of a high quality local name-brand beer. That evening at dinner I opened one of the bottles. And, looking at it, I discovered that it was 170 days past its expiration date ("drink by" date). I immediately contacted the manager to ask what could be done to make this right. Exchange? Refund for 5 of the 6 bottles? Full refund? Or what? No reply at all. So I contacted the brewery. The rep said this has been a long-standing issue with Old Town Market. read more

The place had a weird smell, like old meat or something.i would get a ventilation system or open the doors. Staff looked like they just didn't want to be there. i wanted to get something to eat but after looking around, i played it safe and got a can of soda. i wouldn't feel comfortable eating here, just seemed like it could be cleaner. i kept thinking they reheat all the soup left over from the day before. Whenever I am up in the Santa Maria area, this is where I come to get good deals on great local wines. Great prices and good selection. Their prices are better than other "wine markets" and sometimes even grocery stores. They have little wine tastings occasionally(never tried 'em), for I am usually in and out quickly. It's also a convenience store and they have a little deli counter where I guess you can get some sandwiches, etc. (never tried them though). One day I will, and if they are good, then I can complete the review and give them that 5th star. read more

Terrible service. After waiting though the long line at checkout, the owner walked in and said "I'll take you at the other register". He start to ring me up and I notice a big sign saying "no cash back at this register". I point to the sign and say "I need to get cash back", and he says, "sorry go to the other register" and then starts to ring up the person behind me. I go to the other register and am forced to go to the back of the long line - neither clerk cared that I'd have to wait through the line again. Irritated, I wait and get through the line and finally start getting checked out again. I tell him I need cash back and he says "Sorry credit transactions only, our debit system is down". I moved to Orcutt about 1.5 years ago and I have to say I just love this place! Everyone is so friendly, they have so many cool local wines and beers that you cannot find anywhere except at the actual tasting room for that wine. Like the name implies, this is an old town market. They don't stock 22 variations of laundry bleach, but they have bleach and most other items you'll need, And, you won't need hiking boots to make the trip from the front door to the dairy case and back to check out. Speaking of dairy, if you like fresh milk or ice cream, do yourself a favor and try the milks and ice creams Old Towne stocks from Rosa's Dairy. Best milk in town, and bottled in glass like the old days. Yeah, there's a $2 deposit on the bottles, but you'll be back to get more so just remember to bring the empties. read more

I've been going to this location since 1974. It's been good and bad. The 3 stars is because the staff are friendly. I understand it's a small locally owned store but it's overpriced. If they carried quality product/produce and a little better variety I could see the higher prices. Paying top dollar for below standard things isn't going to work for the owners forever. The wine selection is great and the deli is fantastic! The veggies are gross. Just needs an overhaul. read more
