Kids had fun, and that's what really matters. As a destination from LA, this little old town was not what I expected as far as family friendly activities. Pennypickle's museum was closed unexpectedly and we struggled to find things to do with the littles nearby. The shop is very small. No public bathrooms. This is a small shop but it was definitely fun for the kids! We had plans to go to another place in the area but they were closed that day so we ended up here. There is a list to pick and choose what you want to mine for along with the pricing. A lot of options for mining to choose from. We did the classic mining for the kids, which is gems and stones. You can either do it downstairs or upstairs. Of course the kids chose upstairs. So we headed up the stairs and the worker followed with the bags of gems and stones. She cut them open for each kid and they poured it into their tray, followed directions and put it in the water stream to rinse off the first to find their gems and stones. It was fun for them and the area upstairs was a nice space. It looks like they have a small space for birthdays. So that's very fun and cool for kids. There's a few photo ops. Once you're done mining, you place your stones/gems into a bag and head back downstairs. The worker wrote the kids name onto a certificate & gave it to them and allowed them to pick a candy with it. After, we browsed the store to look a more stones and items they had there. We got a pop gun for my son since it looks so nice and something fun to have a keepsake from the store. My daughter was just happy with her stones & gems. The whole experience took less than 20 mins but kids enjoyed it & had fun rinsing and searching for the gems/stones. It was nice they had pictures of each gem/stone so kids can see what they got. Definitely something to experience if you're in the area. read more

I didn't feel like there was much value to the items the shop offered. There was a bit of Charlie Kirk propaganda. Was expecting this to be kid friendly but when my child pointed out stickers of Charlie Kirk being compared to Jesus Christ, I just didn't feel right. Many of the items are overpriced gag gifts. I feel like you could skip this store if you want to save a few bucks on an impulse buy. read more

My kids and I love this place. They had fun mining and the young man working there was so kind to my kids. Totally would go back!

We went here with my 4.5 year old and had a wonderful time! They have a fun selection of rocks to look at and everything was reasonably priced. We broke two geodes which my little boy loved! We also did the mining bag and found a bunch of cool stones. They provide a guide for identifying the stones/fossils and we're still working on it at home. I'm happy to begin to instill a love of geology in such a fun way! I think my son will love this even more over the next few years as he grows! read more

In my quest to find a fun mother son date idea for my 7 yo, I stumbled upon Old Town Temecula Mining Co. and I'm so thankful I did. The shop is so charming and full of fun gifts, gadgets and goodies. The mining was wonderful too. Such a great value for the $ and such a fun activity to do with your kiddos. The owner was the absolute sweetest and made our visit so so special. What a fantastic experience at the Old Town Temecula Mining Co. The kids and grown ups had a blast panning for gems and breaking geodes. The stores selection of goods is very unique as well. I especially liked the gem/crystal candles, jewelry, and soaps. My kids enjoyed all the unique western and mining toys. The customer service was excellent. Such a fun experience for the whole family! My kids had so much fun in the mine shaft and got a whole bag full of different gemstones, fossils, etc. They were also given a guide to identify all their findings which was so fun for them to do when we got home. The staff was very kind and interactive with everyone! And I can't forget to mention the adorable gift shop! So many cute and fun items in there!! read more

Wow! What a "gem" in our Old Town. First off, as a mom, I couldn't get past the shop. Everything was unique and cute. So many great gift options! Then, the mining area was amazing! Transports you to a cool mine with cold water running. The bags of crystals my boys got were FULL. They also enjoyed going through each crystal and marking off their identification guide at home. We enjoyed breaking some geodes which our kind host put some power into so they broke open just right. My boys throughly loved the decor, the experience, and the gift shop. HIGHLY recommend as this is a MUST STOP for families. read more
