We were just passing through and needed dinner, so we turned to Yelp for a recommendation and decided on Old Trail Tavern. They are definitely a steakhouse, offering many different cuts of steak at higher price points, which is expected for quality steaks. No one in our group ordered steak this time, however. Three of us ordered the Bourbon Glazed Chicken Breast, which was made with Bell & Evans chicken -- always a great sign because their chicken is excellent quality. We all really enjoyed our meals. The restaurant itself is very nice inside, and the service was good. We arrived about an hour before closing, and there were still a couple of parties dining. One thing worth noting: if you're a water snob like me and carry your Yeti filled with reverse osmosis water everywhere, this restaurant does not allow outside beverages. In all the years I've carried my water bottle with me, this is actually the first restaurant that has ever told me I couldn't have it there. I have been driving by the Old Trail Tavern for years. Located on the frontage road which used to be the Old Trail. Yes it's a small place with a small dining area next to the bar. The parking lot always seems full, but I never stopped until tonight. All I have to say, this is one of THE BEST steaks I've had in a very long time, maybe ever. My friend Steve invited me to have dinner here tonight and I was not disappointed! I had the strip with green beens and a loaded potato. Steve had a huge tomahawk. They were both cooked perfectly medium rare and super tender which Steve informed the chef personally. Sarah provided great service and many whiskey sours. Great job. Now I have to come back. Really great little place! Apple Maps considered this place a Gastropub. I wouldn't necessarily call it that, but honestly, for the location, this is a great spot! Food was really solid. I had the petite crab cakes trio appetizer and a bowl of loaded baked potato soup. My hubby had a bacon bourbon burger. Everything was very tasty, served hot. Great portion sizes! I personally appreciated that the menu had all of their items labeled gluten free (GF). It makes life with a limited diet much less stressful. Service was slightly slower than I would've liked and they had quite a bit of waitstaff on, but the quality of the food was unexpectedly good for the location. Would've truly given a 4.5 if possible. Location is literally right on route 11 (the highway) but you can't hear it inside due to music and typical restaurant noise. Not the prettiest outside the window but ambience inside is nice. Clean. The Old Trail Tavern has occupied a small space near southbound lanes of US-15 in central Pennsylvania for years, about halfway between Harrisburg and Lewisburg. Its unpretentious exterior conceals a magnificent makeover that makes this a must-visit if you are in the area or passing through. Old Trail is a cozy space that seats perhaps 50 with about 8 seats at the beautiful bar. There are also a couple of outdoor tables with nearby patio heaters. The interior is immaculate and while I was there the staff was working hard to keep things spotless. Old Trail highlights local beverages and local ingredients. The beer list isn't extensive but has a nice mix of craft brews and mainstream beers. Steaks are a menu highlight, as well as a tasty appetizer selection. I enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich with house fries; both were excellent. My companion savored the expertly prepared bacon barbecue burger. Service was froand attentive throughout our visit on a crisp fall Saturday. We look forward to many future visits to the outstanding Old Trail Tavern. read more

This was our first visit to Old Trail Tavern and we experienced cozy atmosphere and great service! The menu provides many choices and variety of food from tradition pub fair to steaks/seafood. They also have a nice selection of PA craft beers. While the service was great, we were disappointed with the food. On this visit two of us each ordered the 22oz bone-in Ribeye steak special. The steak was cooked how we like it (medium rare and medium), but was difficult to cut, very tough, chewy, and not overly flavorful. Very disappointing. Another person in our party ordered the French Dip and was also disappointed with the toughness of the meat in the sandwich. With the prices being charged for the food, one would expect better quality than what we received on this visit. We will give it another try if in the area. read more

Old Trail is in the middle of no where and only accessible from south side of US 15. The only way for a place with this location to survive is good food and service. The food is good, the service isn't. The place is small about 50 seats with high top and low top tables. The chairs are incredibly hard and uncomfortable. There was just one server who has not been trained. With eight people blocking the door it was a good five minutes before she came to us. She should have seated us and explained she was the only server. Two people left so $100 walked out because the owner did not pay $15 an hour for a second server, not a good business model. We shared the firecracker shrimp appetizer which did not disappoint. It was served on lettuce leaves which is a waste, a bed of rice, polenta or coleslaw would have elevated the dish. I had the 8 oz filet steak $37 medium rare. It was more like medium. It had a delicious sear on it and the seasoning was good, you could taste the wood fire. It would have been better with a knob of butter, or parsley butter. The wild mushrooms was also good but could have been better with a touch of butter. The fries are advertised as fresh cut but I am not sure if they were. There were the skinny string type which are cold by the time they hit the table and only a crunch no taste of potato. A much fatter and twice cooed fries would have been great with the steak. My friend had the NY strip which she liked and roasted asparagus which was really good. I had th local IPA which was OK, my friend had a smokey cocktail that comes in a dome. She liked it I did not. Problem was the one very busy barkeep took ten minutes to make it . Once ordered our food came out in a reasonable time. The prices are reasonable. Our server was very nice but just overwhelmed.DID a second server not show or was last minute sick I don't know, but if the owner does not have enough servers it will affect his business. read more

Food, Service, Atmosphere all 5 stars. We have been hearing such good things about the Old Trail Tavern for some time and finally went to try the place out. The decore is really nice, kind of rustic. The food is amazing. I had a Delmonico medium rare and my darling wife had the fish and chips special, since she had steak the night before. They cook the steak over a wood fire and you can taste the wood smoke in every bite. It was done perfect. My wife's fish and chips was as good as I have ever seen it. The fish was flakes with a thin crispy breading and the fries are fresh cut. The service was really great. A gentleman named Charles could not have been more attentive, checking on us numerous times. At the end of the meal Charles tells us they heard it was our first time there and they wanted us to have desserts on the house. I had a chocolate peanut butter pie that would have put a diabetic into a coma and Mrs Snyder got the chocolate lava dessert to go. The price was extremely reasonable and we promised we would be back and would bring friends. If you have not been to the Old Trail Tavern in Liverpool, you are missing out on a wonderful evening of good food and great service. We will be regulars! Let's start at the beginning. This place opened a few years ago and we tried it 3 or 4 times. It was always the same thing. They were either out of numerous menu items, or the length of service was measured in eons, not minutes. We had to go to Bloomsburg super early this morning for business. Even though we pass NUMEROUS favorites of ours in Danville and Selinsgrove, we ultimately decided to give here another try as my wife had recently reviewed the new menu on a local FB group and I was game. What a mistake that was! We arrived around 11:35 to very limited cars in the parking lot. We jokingly said, "Well, they certainly aren't busy. At least they have no reason to make us wait forever." Silly us. It would later be shown just how wrong we were! We walked in and were quickly seated, with menus. Good start! I'd like to note, when we walked in there was exactly one table of three ladies that were finishing up. Sweet! Definitely no delays, right? Wrong. It's important to note that there was a staff of three working. The woman who sat us, who I believe was the bartender, the young guy that came to our table to wait on us (our waiter) and another waiter, who was taller, appeared slightly older and had a hat on. I'll refer to him as "other waiter." We put our order in with our waiter at 11:45. How do I know this? Well, I received a text while ordering that was time stamped at 11:44. I'd like to note that, while our waiter was pleasant and affable, he started off not reading the specials, or describing any drinks, he started with, "So, here's what we DON'T have..." Ugh. Here we go again. Luckily, they had the chopped steak and the crab cake Mac and cheese, which is what we ordered. Off went our waiter, merrily, with our order. Shouldn't be long! A few minutes later, a group of four came in that sat at a high top in the corner. About 5 minutes later, a group of six with two young children in tow arrived. I found it very strange, that, while the dining room is small, maybe 10 tables, not counting the back room, they put the table of six with kids right next to us and the four right next to us as well. I thought it was odd that we all literally had to sit close enough to literally bump chairs, but okay. At about the 20 minute mark, I suddenly realized that I saw the bartender take care of the four and the other waiter had the six. Our waiter was nowhere to be found, which, considering his table count was, well, us, I found strange. At the 25 minute mark, the bartender came out with food! Well at least for the four that had ordered well after us. My wife is pissed. I'm pissed. Still no waiter to question anything. He's just ghosted us. When we hit the 30 minute point, with no proof of life of our waiter, I decided to be a little vocal about it. I looked at my wife and said, loud enough for the bartender, who was standing on top of us after already serving the other table's food, "Have you seen our waiter? It's been 30 minutes since he's been around! I hope he's OK!" Bartender stopped walking by briefly and then noped right on off the floor and into the kitchen. It was more than obvious she wasn't interested in addressing the problem. Maybe she went to look for our waiter. I don't know, but that was the last we saw her. Finally, at about the 35 minute mark we both decided that was enough. Since they had zero to drink that wasn't a high fructose corn syrup product (soda, premade sweetened iced tea, etc.) all of which my wife is HIGHLY allergic to) we both decided it was time to go as staring at an empty glass of water wasn't how i planned on spending my Saturday afternoon. Still no sign of our waiter, so we got up to leave. To his credit, "other waiter" quickly ran over to see why we were leaving. I explained, in detail, what happened and that this is the EXACT reason we stopped coming. He looked at me and literally replied, "Aww, I'm sorry." I just stared at him for a few minutes expecting him to snap back into reality and say SOMETHING. Maybe, "let me see what's going on," or, "I'll go check on your food even though I'm swamped with one table," but no. He just kept staring at me blankly, so we left. That's it. We're done. It's just a shame as we were actually scouting the place out for an upcoming large client dinner we're having. Called on sat 3/8/25, for reservations, told the person answering the phone that we were traveling an hour to get there, would be our first visit, was my wife's birthday and see loves crab legs, coming down for the AYCE shrimp and crab legs. So, on Sunday3/9/25, get there, and sat us at a high table, when I made the reservation, I was asked high or low, I requested low, which i asked now for a low table and was accommodated. Told our waitress that we were there for the AYCE, quoted us a price of $37.95, then came back and told us it is now $49.95, so when I questioned the price, she went to get someone else, who came to the table and told us the price changed on Feb 26, 2025, and was posted on their Facebook page. Well apparently, they didn't tell all the staff, and the FB post shows $ 39.95. Why wasn't I told on sat of a price change when I called? So, what is the price???? So, we left, needless to say, sorry we won't be back. We made a reservation for 6:15 on a Saturday evening (a week ahead of time) and drove 40 minutes. They said they were behind and we did not get seated until7:10. Why make a reservation? We ordered almost immediately however we did not have our meals at 8:10. At that point, we spoke again with our waitress. Still no food. Owner or manager came out at 8:15 - it would be a bit longer - they were behind. after I explained we had been here for two hours - she said go ahead and leave. I told her to go ahead and bring the food - her response -"I don't want you to eat then leave a bad review. Rude. Food finally at 8:18 - More than 2 hours past our reservation. I insisted on traveling there for brunch (45 min trip) to kick off my birthday month celebration. once we were seated our waitress never pointed out the brunch menu only handed us the regular menu and a small weekly special which did have on a brunch cheeseburger. Luckily we looked at the cocktail menu (that's where the brunch menu is located). Best part was the Bloody Mary that alone deserves 5 stars. The food was very disappointing. When Old Trail first opened it was during the pandemic and they had tables under white tents outdoors and the food was wonderful and homey and delicious and modern takes on old comfort food. Then they switched gears. Changed the menu a few times, stumbled and got better, and became inconsistent. They did have great wings, THE best and my favorite onion rings and great burgers and hand helds and entrees. There was something for everyone. Alas we went away for the winter and excitedly returned for a few of our favorites. Disappointed. They now are focused on being a steakhouse. Gone are the favorites. Gone is the inventiveness. Main stream steakhouse with a $64 steak. In Liverpool PA. Gone is the menu you will see on the internet. OK so you want to be a steakhouse. You better step up your game. You should be able to handle those onion rings. Oops. They were burnt and falling apart. Sad. They used to be the best. I ordered the special...fried fish and French fries and Cole slaw. Once upon a time the coleslaw was delicious. One bite and no more. The French fries were old and refried and dark dark and hard Hardly Steakhouse worthy. Not even McDonalds worthy. And the fish. You know the dark dark brown of the onion rings and French fries. Fish was the same. Old oil? Too many refries? Old Trail needs to define who they want to be and concentrate on a good product. The food was good and the servings were generous but the experience was made even better by the service. Steph was a phenomenal server, very attentive and courteously cheerful, whilst in the midst of training Sarah, who also provided great service. I really love this place. It's cozy. Fish and chips are great. Steaks are yummy although I had one steak that was not my favorite- too fatty. They use a really good steak marinade. Burgers are good. Not thrilled with the Old Bay scallops and shrimp I had. Crab cake was ok. I'm very disappointed I cannot get a salad there anymore. They offer vegetables for sides but I love a good salad with some protein. I had a Champagne Kiss there that was so yummy made by Charles the bartender. I'm happy to support this restaurant. I admit I was expecting a fantastic meal - based on reviews and friends' recommendations. The food was alright, but nowhere near exceptional. Ordered the BEER CHEESE PRETZEL SLIDERS for appetizers and they were quite bland and dry. Over one third of their listed entrees are not available. I had the LANGOSTINO SHRIMP SCAMPI and there was a total of 6 shrimp severed on top of a relatively small serving of fettuccine - which definitely could have used additional spices or something, as it was rather plain. My hubs had steak and it was OK, but nothing exceptional. Our bill was over $100, which is fine IF the food is exceptionally tasty and/or sufficient amounts. Neither was the case. Have been to Old Trail three times for dinner. Prime rib on Friday is good, as are the crab cakes. Sides were not very good, the smashed potatoes were gummy, the fries are limp and soggy, and the buttered corn was truly horrible. Decided to try Monday night special - basically a chopped steak with onions and mushrooms and sautéed shrimp. I ordered medium and explained I like it pink but not bloody. My chop steak arrived in five chunks on my plate. The chopped salad was not very good as half the lettuce consisted of pieces I would have thrown out if I were making a salad and the topping (mix of corn, bacon and cheese) had an odd gritty texture. The mixed vegetables on the other hand were good. The third visit was on AYCE wing night. If you aren't ordering wings, DON'T GO ON AYCE wing night. I ordered salmon. It arrived so overcooked the skin side was black and as hard as the plate. There were scorch marks on both sides. I sent it away but didn't want a replacement. We had waited 30 minutes and the waitress couldn't say I would get a replacement any quicker. Best advice I can give is only order wings on Wednesdays and think twice before ordering any of the sides. Really want to find a good combination of entree and sides as we like supporting local businesses. read more
