I am a self-professed jerky officionado. I bought directly from their website. I bought ten 4 oz packs of original flavor 1. The flavor of the jerky is excellent 2. In each pack there at most 2 oz of pieces, maximum 1 1/2" x 1", others smaller. The remaining contents are small shreds and crumbs 3. There is a surprising amount of tough gristle in the jerky 4. Came across a family size back of Old Fashioned Beef Jerky and I could not help but notice that it has 0 grams of fat (total, saturated and even trans). That is REALLY GOOD! The only issue is that it has nitrites in the ingredients (something that can lead to cancer). I think that is the only flaw with this brand of jerky. One California rival, Archer, has thought of a way to not include nitrites in theirs, but the compromise is that there is fat. Who will be the first to have the jerky that has no fat and no nitrites? read more

don't waste your money. I purchased this as a Christmas gift. Expiration date is 10/2026. This package was moldy. I was embarrassed.

This jerky is awful! Expiration date 4/25 but this smells and tastes awful. Calls to the company have gone without callbacks. A younger nephew had to go to urgent care after eating this. I will call health department of Oregon next. Don't buy this crap. If you feel a strong need to buy it, save yourself money and pick up roadkill instead. read more

Not a new player in the jerky world as their website indicates they have been around for more than 50 years so I guess their distribution network is expanding because I feel like I have only recently seen them in Arizona and southern California. With that said I was not initially impressed by the product simply by looking at it: to me it looked over salty and over processed. Great taste, flavor, and texture. Also generally mid-range price-wise. Excellent. My favorite by far is the peppered. Their regular is very good. Not a fan of some of the other flavors; but that's just my personal taste. Really great beef jerky. Other than saying the Teppanyaki is not my all-time fave; uhm yeah. Old Trapper ROCKS. This really is the best Beef Jerky I've ever had. Consistently. Their flavors are distinct. The Peppered is spot on. The Hot-n-Spicy is not too, but definitely has a kick. My favorite is the Old Fashioned. It's just the best beef jerky there is. Teriyaki is a winner too! I've periodically sampled other brands, but keep coming back to Old Trapper because it's just that good. And the clear bag shows you exactly what you're getting. Quality. Value. Goodness. When I get a knack for a meat snack I'm a sucker for what looks best in that moment of snap decision. I don't really follow brands because nothing has stood out until recently. Now I've found something that has me all giddy: real steak in a bag! The guys at Old Trapper have what looks like to be a new steak line (called "Trapper's Choice") and it's not like anything else I've ever tried. The pieces are obviously cut from a whole steak slab with no filler or fakery. I swear that eating this stuff more closely resembles the experience of a quality steak in a restaurant than any jerky. How can it be soft and savory without being riddled with some chemical treatment? I've got to think some of the big national brands are going to be copying this stuff soon. The Teriyaki was my first favorite but now I'm stuck on the Original since I can really taste the smoke flavor, but either one is going to blow your mind if you already enjoy meat snacks. I just wish it wasn't holed up in Bi-Mart and Plaid Pantry because I've been disappointed more than once looking and finding it sold out. Try the Trapper's Choice and you'll be hooked too. read more

I was so sick and tired of eating other dry sandy jerky brands. I was so over it I almost gave up on jerky all together. Yes I love me some beef jerky. Recently discovered Old Trapper which makes a solid black peppr flavor. Good tasty, not too tough, and great bite of black pepper without overpowering. Family owned since the lates 60s, they seem to be expanding their ops in the Forest Grove area. Good to see artisan products grow organically in popularity. read more

Listen, I'm not one for hyperbole but this is the greatest beef that's ever been made by any company in the history of the world. Okay... maybe I haven't tried every brand that's ever been made, but that's beside the point. HERE'S THE POINT: This is great beef jerky. It's tender, flavorful and affordably priced. You won't find any hunks of chewy tree bark in these bags. Nope, just big pieces of lean, seasoned beef. And when you're craving a snack, there's just nothing better. I found this tasty treat at my local gas station. $11 for 10oz! I had to try it. The texture is perfect. Not too dry, not too chewy, just perfect. I got the original flavor, I can't wait to try the others. Will not be getting any other brand from now on, if I can help it. I am a bit confused by the fact that it says zero fat.. Oh well. I bought the Teriyaki thick and tender beef steak at Gander Mtn in Paducah, Ky. on September 6th. I ate 2 pieces and it was good.I went to eat some today after it being stored at room temp. 5/23/16: 3.25 oz. Old Fashioned Beef Jerky dated 09/20. When I went to have a snack, I found white mold in the sealed package. I have had a very difficult time trying to contact Old Trapper about this. There is never a live person on the 800 number, emails get bounced back, and they just don't seem to care. There seems to be too much moisture in this jerky , leading to the mold problem. I guess overly moist product increases the profit margin by selling more water. I finally decided to leave a review on their Facebook page, which brought some response but nothing meaningful. I replied instantly to their emails but no response or offer to replace the product. They tried to tell me the bag must have been damaged after it left their facility, but there is not even a pinhole that would have caused this mold to occur in the way they wanted me to believe. Even a microscopic hole would mean I could express air out of the package with pressure. This is not the case. Old Trapper's Facebook review communication has been condescending and trite "I hope you enjoy your replacement jerky." I was never directly contacted although I left a voicemail when this whole thing started, so they have my contact information. How can I enjoy my replacement jerky when no one from Old Trapper will speak to me to find out where to send a replacement? read more
