I was looking for some BBQ and happened to find this place on Yelp. I decided on the brisket and mac and cheese for dinner. Overall, I was mostly happy. The meat was super tender and juicy and I did like the sauce served with it. The ONLY knock was the fat cap was way too much on my piece and for the price, it should be perfect. The mac was good, but had some flavor hint in the background that I'm not sure about, but still good. The service was fantastic and I don't think I've ever had a meal served so quickly. My server was friendly and answered the questions I had. The next table over, I head the manager I think apologize for any delay because there were a couple of larger parties. Given my experience, I don't think it would have been too long a wait. The place looks like a converted small warehouse with a bar on the back wall. Really a nice vibe, much better than you'd expect from the outside. I'm sure I'll be back to try a few more things on the menu. read more

Ate in the bar area and Victoria was outstanding: helpful, friendly, and solid with recommendations for a first timer. The only thing I have tried so far are the burnt ends. They were amazing! Perfectly seasoned and smoked, and the right amount of lean beef and fat, in fact the best burnt ends I have ever had. Finally, there is a great bar selection, wine , beer and ale, and cocktails. High on my priorities list for my next visit is the Thunderstruck specialty cocktail. Thanks to a generous patron, I had a bartender taste of this delicious concoction, which was created by talented bartender, Victoria. Monthly class luncheon was held here on the recommendation of Paula, the owner's mother-in-law. What a find! Having been stationed in Texas, my wife and I are accustomed to fine mesquite fired barbecue. We're reluctant to order it elsewhere, though, due to often overbearing smokiness. My wife asked for a sample of the brisket. She was hooked! It took us back to Rudy's in San Antonio. The amber draught beer was excellent. The solitary server was inundated with hordes that arrived all at once. He never skipped a beat and took care of us and everyone else expertly. We sat outside so that our dog could partake of the festivities. If you're craving great burgers, good beer, phenomenal service and authentic barbecue, visit the Blackdog with your dog. My wife and I, along with our best friends were looking for an alternative to dining at McMenamins in Forest Grove before our stay there. We definitely found a good one. Blackdog, a Led Zeppelin reference, offers excellent barbecue and beer and cocktails. Among our orders were salad with brisket burnt ends, fried chicken, roasted chicken and a specialty sandwich. All four dishes were very good and went well with our ice cold beers. Our waitress, who I believe was named Autumn, was friendly, fun and gregarious and made us all laugh. I would definitely recommend this place as an upgrade from the usual McMenamins fare. read more

We have heard positive comments about Blackdog Bar and Grill so we thought we would give it a try. We are really glad we did. The food is flavorful, a great value and portions are huge. My daughter had the two meats from the barbecue part of the menu...the brisket and the ribs. Both were so great and plentiful, and there are left overs to be enjoyed. She also enjoyed the mac and cheese that was served with the barbecue plate. I had the fried chicken and it was also excellent, and I also have left overs for later. We both had french fries and they were crispy and hot. The pre-dinner cocktails were also perfect, with fresh fruit as the garnish. The dining room is set-up a bit odd. There is a considerable amount of empty space when entering and the main seating area is off to the side. They also had a considerable amount of customers come in during our visit as the service was a bit slower. The house salad we ordered came with our food...but it is still a 5 star visit. Each and every time we have stopped in here it has been a tasty surprise. They have great drinks and lots of food options. Food prices are on the higher end of things but you aren't at Chili's either. They serve some pretty delicious items that we didn't expect. Their BBQ is decent, brisket was legit and if you are a glutton for punishment I dare you to try their chicken wings with the "Sympathy for the Devil" sauce. Service varies but overall friendly. So yummy! We stopped by while going from Portland to Tillamook and needed a yummy dinner. Love the Led Zeppelin theme and they had tray mystic playing the whole time. Dog friendly outside, and they even brought our dog her own water bowl (so nice!). My husband got the fish and chips and was very pleased. Great fish to batter ratio and the fries were perfectly crispy. I got the burnt ends plate with mac n cheese and cornbread. The burnt ends were fantastic and melted in your mouth. The sauce was so tangy and sweet. I wasn't blown away by the cornbread, so maybe snag something else! Overall, we loved our detour to Forest Grove and would absolutely recommend Blackdog to anyone. read more

We had an excellent experience Fathers Day evening. The 4 of us all had superb service and the food was above par. Although they are known for their BBQ we all had steaks and salads. However to be fair, it is a bit inconsistent because the next couple times I had it it was just average at best. But every time I've ordered their "brisket or burnt ends". It is incredibly good. This restaurant has been around since 2019 but this is our first time visiting here. Our friends said they have came before but were ignored when waited around to get a table to order and decided to give it another chance. It had a nice open space and side note the bathrooms were very clean. Is this the best BBQ I've ever had? I wouldn't say so, but it's worth a try! They offer generous portions for their price, service is great and the food was decent! Hubby and I split the brisket combo and that was enough good for both of us (with our friends sharing the ribs) They actually got the wrong side for him, he wanted Mac and cheese instead of mashed potato, but that was quickly fixed by the friendly staff. Our friends got 2 dinner entrees, chicken and salmon with different sides, along with the BBQ combo plate of brisket and ribs. Their house-made BBQ sauce is sweet and tangy! The only disappointing thing was that our friends' mixed drinks tasted funky - not sure if that's how it supposed to be or if it was just a one-time flop. Their drinks left an odd sticky feel after drinking and they didn't get to finish it (but at $11-$14 for a cocktail - that's pretty sad) However, I would definitely give 5 stars for the service! Our waitress (I wish I remembered her name! Sorry!) was super attentive to our group of 5 and gave us constant updates on the ribs we ordered - they had to start a new batch so it was taking longer than usual, but we didn't mind waiting and appreciated her updates. If you want some decent BBQ and not drive into Portland, I would give this place a try! Oh but there is only 1 way getting into the parking lot from one side on 19th Ave, so if you miss it, you need to turn all the way around on Pacific Ave and try again...so maybe a bigger sign will be helpful too! read more

My favorite lunch spot ever! Everything tastes so amazing. Bbq is all so totally delicious.

Been there several times now. Some food is good, some not so good. We love the wings and the french dip. The clam chowder was very fishy tasting and watery with little to no chunks. Clam chowder is usually creamy and thick and chunky. The burgers are okay and the BBQ (ribs, brisket, chicken) are okay. The mashed potatoes are yummy. They have been out of the Prime rib a few times by the time we get there (5:30 even though they start at 4:30) so that's a bummer. A few times we went there the person seating us wanted to sit us up at the bar which we don't like. We asked for a booth (both times) and (both times) got an attitude about it for some reason? The last time we went, there were several couples in front of us and we all stood waiting to be seated (even though there were PLENTY of open tables) for 15+ minutes (that is when we got there but who knows how long they were waiting before we arrived!). They finally seated a few, then a few more. We stood there for 20 more minutes even though we were told it would just be "3-4 minutes more"....20 minutes MORE (for about a half hour total) went by and we just left. We also saw plates of food just sitting there ready to be brought to tables that just sat and sat and sat. I feel bad for the peoples whose food it was because it must have been dry and/or coldish by the time they got it. That and the long wait (why couldn't they sit you at table with a drink and let you know that it may be a bit before the take your order when there so many empty tables??) was the last straw and why we just left. They weren't that busy- a normal restaurant should have been able to handle it- so maybe they were understaffed but it was ridiculous, and they didn't care that we were waiting that long, just looked at you every time they walked by you and didn't care. That will be the last time we go. There are plenty of other restaurants that actually seem to want your business and whose (expensive) food is consistently good and actually worth the price. Things are too expensive as it is these days and then add on poor service and mediocre food, it is just not okay and too many others trying harder to earn your money. read more

Great place for a meal! Really nice variety on the menu, too. I've had steak, salads, burgers, and various aps there this winter 23-24. Beer, wine, and full bar. Today I had the Deviled Eggs api and I wish I had taken a picture before I partially devoured them. They were Buffalo Chicken with Blue Cheese Crumbles perched on Cucumbers. So good with a side of spicy Cole slaw. Great service, too! Nice casual atmosphere. Love it. read more
