I feel like Merenda came out of nowhere. I think they are really about a year old at this point,…read morebut I only recently discovered them when I was up in Newberg and searching for a quick grab and go lunch. They are located in Dundee across the street from Red Mills Market, and neighbors to Fratelli Wine Bar so you could make a little afternoon of it exploring these fun spots. They have a good amount of space in their parking lot, but if it does fill (which can happen on the weekends), there is plenty of parking along the road. There is some seating inside and out, all pretty casual, but nice to have the option. I've only ever ordered to go, but they are quick and typically have sandwiches ready in 5-15 minutes (the latter only at their busiest times). Their menu is tight with two salad options, five sandwiches, and a couple coffees/teas. Also worth mentioning the gigantic brown butter chocolate chip cookie and delectable sounding gelato (pistachio, stracciatella...moo crunch?!). I have had probably half the menu items at this point, and all are good, but my favorites are the #1 sandwich, Morta along with the ceci salad (and cookie, obviously). Since they are so quick, don't waste time while you are waiting on your order, and make sure to peruse their fun snacks, soft drinks, and merch. The Torres potato chips are where it's at, and while I've resisted temptation thus far, I really want to get my hands on the Sockerbit gummies. Once you do receive your order, you will be swooning over the adorable presentation. I know you're thinking "t's just sandwiches," but they make them feel special from the paper wraps with the cute Merenda tape, to the red and white picnic check napkins. I generally venture up there only once a month or so, but Merenda has become a strong contender for favorite lunch spot in the area. Oh, and I always forget, but you can order online too!

The bread was soft but still had some bite to it. I also got the truffle chips which were such a fun change compared to the regular chips you see. We ordered online and process was smooth. Employees were helpful and friendly. It didn't fit in with my wine tasting but I was intrigued by their pistachio cold foam matcha.

Briar Rose Creamy, which specializes in cows milk cheese, offers an open window for sample tasting, which is accessible after driving down a gravel road in Dundee. Their cheese is served on cheese & charcuterie boards at nearby Dundee Hills & Willamette Valley wineries. We were offered samples by the cheese maker's husband, who shared the story of their business, her journey from her early days at Cowgirl Creamy in Marin, to starting her own company, & advised us on their offerings. While tasting, we could see straight back into the cheese making facility, with people busy at work. It just doesn't get any closer to the source than that. We enjoyed each Briar Rose cheese we tried, but particularly the Butterbaby, a soft bloomy rind Guernsey cow's milk cheese, and their sweet, tangy, spreadable formage blanc. I wish they had been tasting their semi-soft cheese washed in Riesling and wrapped in Spruce bark, called Strapping Evelyn, but it wasn't available to sample the day we stopped by. We picked up several cheeses to take home. A must for anyone who likes an authentic farm stand experience.

Inside, they have a small shop area featuring locally made goodies: honey, cheeses, cured meats, wines, and other treats. You order at the walk-up counter where the menu includes freshly made sandwiches, soups, chilis, salads, and other local favorites. Everything is made to order and comes out quickly. I ordered the Dundee Grinder, and it was absolutely fantastic, packed with flavor and definitely not stingy on the ingredients. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the quality and freshness of the food. The staff was kind, helpful, and efficient, which made the whole experience even better. There are a few tables inside and a lovely outdoor patio in the back with a fireplace and a rain cover, perfect for enjoying your meal no matter the weather. Every little detail here, from the food to the ambiance, feels so thoughtful and welcoming. If you're in the Dundee area or wine tasting nearby, this spot is a must-visit. I'll definitely be recommending it to anyone heading this way!

The appetizers were delicious and fed a large party without us having to order multiples of each dish. For an entree, I had the pork, which I felt was a bit overcooked and lacking in flavor. One of the things I found oddest about the evening was the hours of the restaurant. We dined here on a Saturday night at 7:30 - immediately after we were sat we were told we needed to order promptly because the kitchen closes at 8:00. I still don't quite understand why you would allow reservations so close to a kitchen's closing time. It ended up making the meal feel a bit rushed and lackluster. Overall, it was a perfectly adequate meal but I'm not sure I would need to stop in here again.
