Before starting I have to tell you this is the first escape room I've done. We just did it on a whim after we were finished with the Franklin Institute. I absolutely loved it. Super fun and the theme of the "Midnighters" was really cool. It's an old boxing gym. We showed up as a group of 4. We met Glenn who showed up as a group of 1. He said he's been to 50 escape rooms! He loved it too. I'd trust his opinion over mine. I don't think we could've done it without him. I don't want to ruin the room for anyone so all I can say is the clues are very interesting. We made it out with 20 minutes to spare. I will be back. If you haven't done an escape room I implore you to do so. I think Old City would be a great place to start.

Took the fam for their first escape room. They fell in love with it lol.

Old City Escape Room is great! I took my family (who had never done an escape room before) and they all loved it. We did "The Midnighters" room, which can was layed out really well and the clues were some of the most fun I've ever had to figure out. You pretty much use the entire room and the props super cool. The staff was great! We came with two kids 9 and 11 and even my parents who are both 60 and all of us had an amazing time. I'd definitely recommend it for family or even for a date night (there was a couple that had just did the room before we went in). Next time in Philly, I'll definitely be going back to try their other room and the staff told me that they have a third room that they plan on adding soon.

This is a review for both A Quest for Freedom and The Midnighters escape rooms: I can't tell you which one was my favorite bc they were both so much fun. Having done only Halloween themed escape rooms before, I didn't know what to expect but I was completely blown away. These guys have done their research and really did an incredible job from the interior design, puzzles, to the themes. Both escape rooms were challenging, smart, fun, and exciting! Great activity for all ages and perfect for locals as well as folks stopping through the city.

We had an absolute blast at this escape room! We tried their brand new room 2048 and it was terrific. The staff members were so kind and helpful and the room was just super cool! It was the perfect difficulty to make you feel like you were working for it but it wasn't so hard that it wasn't fun. We were a team of 2 that were able to get out with 9 minutes left. I would recommend this place to anyone, especially the 2048 room! I really loved the concept. I can't wait to get back to try the other rooms. One thing that is not their fault - parking was terrible (it was a Saturday night in Philly so this was unavoidable). Make sure you get there with plenty of extra time if you're driving.

ESCAPETHEROOMers went to Olde City Escape Games in Feb 2019. Olde City Escape Games is a really cool establishment. It gives off that 80's "Stranger Things/ Black Mirror" vibe. They currently have two rooms available to choose from with a third on the way. The one that we are trying today is "The Midnighters". Parking the area could be a little hard to find due to the fact that the location is surrounded by museums, restaurants, bars and the Liberty Bell within walking distance. We were fortunate enough to meet with the owners - Brooks & Vi to learn more about the company. Both Brooks & Vi come from an artistic background and their concepts and designs clearly show in their work. In regards to "The Midnighters", the room design was quite impressive and had us fully immersed. From the storyline to the puzzle challenges, along with the music playing in the background, everything was constructed very well as it set the tone for our experience. There was a good mixture of old school and modern day tech. Without giving away too much, there was one puzzle that we found challenging mainly due to the fact that it required "a lot..." in order to continue on. Maybe that could be adjusted or kept in the game. Either way it was doable after a few attempts. We are really looking forward to trying their other room in the near future! *For more info, check out my Yelp profile.

Love the escape room. The staff is SUPER FRIENDLY. It is a really immersive experience, from the room, the clues, the story, and even the music. We did the midnight club. If you like the 80s and stranger things you probably will love it. Highly recommend !

70th room. It was top tier. I did their Ben Franklin room. It was very cool for a tourist. Especially after having gone to the Ben Franklin Museum and learned about him. If you're in Philly, go do this room.

This was the first escape room I've ever been to and it was a blast!! We went during the day with a 7 person group. The owners have heavy experience in design and styling, so it will probably be one of the nicest escape rooms you go to! We went to the historical room that deals with Ben Franklin. It was fairly difficult, but we made it with a few moments to spare. The various props around the room are also impressive as many of them are salvage from decades ago. The owner was very friendly as well!

Had a great time! First time in an escape room. Went for a friend's birthday and we had a blast. The staff were great and the place is really cool. Would definitely recommend this place. Great for fun, team building exercises and good laughs.

High-quality escape room experience. Fun puzzles where our group of 9 could stay busy and challenged. We had a great time. Thank you!

Game was tough and creative. We did the "quest for freedom" room and really enjoyed the puzzles and twists in the room. Great experience!

Due to snow, and we were all traveling over an hour to get there, we had to cancel the day of. Emailed to let them know, first email back, from Jeff, was "no problem, would you like to reschedule?" We rescheduled, it snows AGAIN! Same. Sent a email, and again, no problem, would you like a credit or reschedule. So we rebooked and FINALLY made it. We did Witch's Cauldron. We did not make it out :-( But we did have a great time. Some of the puzzles were a bit challenging, and we did have to ask for three clues. The only item I would mention, for those familiar with escape rooms, some items are used more than once, which, the game master may have mentioned and we just missed it, which caused us to lose a bunch of time because we've never done a room that used items more than one time :-) We will definitely be going back!

The rooms are $32 per person (no discounts for children or weekday pricing), and with tax the total price for the three of us was $102.36. David was our game master and did a great job of explaining everything to us before we started and quickly feeding us clues during the game when we asked. We did the Egyptian Tomb: Imhotep's Curse because it felt the most like we were in Indiana Jones. I wish we had known there were actually two rooms, so that I might have budgeted my time better and asked for clues a little sooner. Alas, we did not escape the room(s), but it was still a great experience and it was all very well designed. I think we are all itching to come back for redemption, so we'll definitely return and give one of the other rooms a shot.

I've been to a few places in the ballpark of this before (Activate, Level 99). This place has a good amount of rooms, and a good blend of purely physical, and purely mental, so enough to satisfy any range of talents in your group, and flexibly so across rooms. Even with a few other groups in the building, we only had to wait a handful of times, and it was on the order of seconds. I came last time right after opening in October, and this time, many of the games were very much replay-able and fun with a new group! Not sure about coming back more frequently though-- I imagine that I'd have to similarly come back with some time in between or with enough new people to keep it novel enough to be fun. Some games are malfunctioning due to some unruly guests going way too hard, but otherwise, the staff are super helpful and are willing to help out to get games up and running for you again, or to give you tips on games if you're struggling to get a 100 score. A fun evening for sure! You'll leave a bit tired!
