Was able to make a last-minute booking for a group of 6 on a Sunday and was glad they were able to accommodate us even after some of us made it in late! We ended up with a little less time in the room because of that but honestly that kind of made it more fun. A few of the puzzles in our room were a little unintuitive, and the room was pretty hot, but we still had a great time and it ended up being more satisfying than another escape room I had done in the city. I've done many escape rooms and this one was disappointing. One of the locks was open when we started, which led to confusion and the host coming in to lock it. The air conditioning was not working so we' were all sweaty and annoyed. The host kept giving clues over the loud speaker before we even tried anything. We weren't asking for clues. Some of the mechanisms didn't work properly. Additionally, you can be booked in with random people if you don't pay extra to book the entire room. I know it's a business but NO ONE wants this. An offer of a refund seemed appropriate given all of the things that didn't work in the room. read more

We showed up on time, which I was worried about because they recommend you get there early, but traffic and parking in the city!! We had the best experience here with Noize! They were fun and entertaining and joked with us. We did the Dig room and had fun we loved the creative hints. Even though we sucked and used MANY hints to get out it was a really great experience for the fact that they allow 10 people is perfect. read more

This was my first escape room so I don't really have a good frame of reference. The game itself was fun but the equipment was worn and one key instrument was broken. So we couldn't solve the puzzle (to get to the next step) without it. This was pointed out and a replacement was provided, but not until about 20 minutes of frustration and time running out. No extra time was provided. Another reviewer mentioned the A/C and I agree. It was HOT the entire time. We mentioned this several times but it went without response. It's possible that they couldn't hear us since the AV equipment also was not functioning properly. We could barely hear our host and it took several tries to get her attention. Given the number of escape rooms in the area, I would consider looking into alternatives. read more

We did the Western Bank Heist, and despite having done 20+ escape rooms before, this was by far the worst experience I've had. We got yelled at every time we tried a key in the wrong lock, or tried to open drawers that weren't supposed to open. They had clearly had some things broken by an earlier group, but we felt like we couldn't try anything without getting interrupted by the game master. We asked for 1 clue, but probably got 15 unwanted ones, just cause they were afraid we were gonna break stuff. The game was completely illogical and a few of the main puzzles just didn't work. A safe with dial where the numbers were so worn you could barely make them out, another puzzle with an instruction that said pull when you were supposed to push. There was no logic to what code or key was supposed to go in which lock either. We were five people (could've been 8 if it had filled up) and in the end 3 of us just stood around looking at the other two trying to solve the two puzzles that didn't work. read more

Here's the review in English: Our experience was extremely disappointing. We arrived at 5:30 PM and asked to book a private game. The lady at the reception told us the next available slot was at 7:40 PM and the price would be $140. We agreed and made the reservation. However, when we returned at 7:40, another lady suddenly told us the price was $220. Even though it was their mistake, we were told to either pay $220 or leave. We left on principle. SO much fun! My boyfriend and I were in Philly for the weekend and were looking for something to do. We did the Agency 1 room and it was very challenging but exhilarating. The woman who helped us through the puzzle was so nice and accommodating. Definitely wouldn't have made it out without her so thank you for keeping our win streak going!! We hit a 40-second buzzer beater and made it out with 20% odds. If you're ever in the area, def come check this place out. We loved the room designs and the intricacy of the puzzle. I'm sad to say my experience at this escape was far from above average or even middle ground. From the plain and dirty atmosphere to the undecorated rooms, it was just a poor experience. The room, The Dig is the one my group did. The puzzles in this room were not well thought out and were extremely confusing as there was little to no clues regarding certain puzzles. My group has done an escape room from every city we've visited, and this is by far the worst. There was a 100 dollar fee to make the room private which is so useless as you typically just have the room to yourself anyway. The clues given to us were unhelpful and honestly I just didn't enjoy my exsplain here at all. read more

A group of friends and I did "The Agency" room and were highly disappointed by our experience. We successfully escaped the room but felt that many of the clues/puzzles were a stretch compared to other escape rooms we've done in the past. It's clear the room has been used for many years and is in serious need of an upgrade/remodeling. Things were coming apart at the seams and some puzzles straight up didn't work. Our cluemaster wasn't particularly helpful and when we discussed it with him afterward, he said he knew things needed to be redone but it didn't appear that he was actually planning to make any changes. Given the terrible quality of the room and the questionable set of clues/puzzles, I would advise against doing "The Agency" if you're looking for an escape room in Philly. read more

Had a FANTASTIC time at Escape the Room Philly this weekend and are anxious to try the Vault when they get it up and running. This is a really fun way to spend an hour with your friends or coworkers. It can be a bit stressful at times(when your stuck!), but it was a lot of fun. I do think escaping gives you a better experience. I'm not sure how I would rate it if we got stuck in there, but we made it out with 4:20 to spare and we ALL had a blast! If you played these games on the computer it's pretty obvious what you need to do. Instead of using your mouse to "hover" around the room, you use your hands and your senses to do the same. You click all over until you get a clue. Use that clue to solve\find other puzzles until you eventually find the key to Escape the Room! We went with our Championship Defending Coed Softball team and had a blast. It was neat to see how we broke down into smaller teams\individuals tackling the puzzles then coming together with our clues and answers and escaping the room with 4:20 to spare! So you can see most of the negative reviews came from folks who failed to escape. Obviously you are having more fun if you succeed! I read someone's comments about how "bare" the office felt. The problem with making it more "authentic" is there are way too many things to interact with. It's not like the computer where you just hover your cursor over the room to see what you can interact with, so having too many objects in the room is going to overcomplicate everything. Note for users: you are locked in, however there is an emergency key in the room. No this key is not the answer and if you use it to escape in record time they will lock you back in. You are being monitored via video and audio. If you need the bathroom just look in a camera and say "I need to goto the bathroom". Take no pics, write nothing on the props, break no walls, leave the drop ceiling in place. If it's bolted down, it's meant to stay that way. You shouldn't feel claustraphobic in here. It's not that small, even with 10 people with you. Plus, you can always use the key to get out. Tips for ETR: if there are things "off limits" in the room, you should have a better way of saying that than a note that says "please do not touch". Consider putting a particular colored sticker on EVERYTHING people don't need to be concerned with so they know its not part of the game. All your notes to the players should be on this same colored sticker so it's obvious to the players this is a note from the Clue Masters and not part of the game. for example: coat rack, don't spin the ....., don't take the battery cover off of the ....., don't stick your finger in the electrical socket, etc. Reiterate to the players before opening the door (several times) not to shout out answers or tips on the way out. It's tough when your so excited from escaping and the waiting teams are right outside the door! Your waiting room has some cool games. Be great to incorporate one of these into the room! The production value is actually decent, but the puzzles are the type where you wouldn't be able to solve them without the hints from moderators. There is no salient flow of logic to pursue, as clues don't indicate clear directionality of which puzzles offers the next. This makes it a "guess what's in my head" kind of puzzle, which isn't as satisfying to solve. Honestly, though, the reason for why we give 1 star is the lack of enthusiasm and attention of the employee. The least they could have done is to be there for when we escaped and congratulate us for finishing, but when we opened the door to the last puzzle, we didn't know whether the game was over. We returned back to the front desk to check, and the moderator asked "did you _____ in the _____ room?" We said, yes, and they said, "Well, I guess you guys are done then!" It was a blow to our enthusiasm and excitement to completing the puzzles. I had to reinvigorate everyone by high-fiving everyone, but the moderator was just so underwhelming and unenthusiastic that it ruined the experience. An engaged and exciting moderator could make up for poor puzzle designs, but we didn't even get that. They have the best location of the escape rooms in the city, but if you have a chance, check out the others first! read more

I've been to Escape The Room in Maryland, so I'm familiar with their setup, rooms, rules and such. Found a good Groupon deal for two people for a Saturday, so went for it spontaneously. A little hard to spot from the outside because you don't see the name from the street or outside buildings. You walk through a bank it looks like, and down into a basement of sorts. I did The MeltDown room, and we "escaped the room", I will say that this room is going to be a challenge if you have never done an escape room before. But very fun time! read more

Full disclosure: I'm an escape room expert and I don't like to lose rooms. So I'm not thrilled at the moment if writing the review. I did the agency: the spy themed room. Positives: the clue master Jason was really great. Did a good job of giving clues when needed. The theme is pretty well executed. The second half of the room is really cool to see. Negatives: LOTS of clues do not make sense or the directions on how to use certain information is unclear. What I'm really upset about is this room is designed for people to lose. For one of the puzzles, there are so many extraneous pieces that if you don't have the right pieces immediately available, it's going to eat a ton of your time. Another puzzle you have to figure out where the pieces actually go but it's incredibly unclear if not pointed out to you. *Spoiler for final solution* What I'm really upset about is that their last puzzle has a "clue" where you need an outside piece of information from your phone. In most escape rooms, you're told not to bring you phone or turn it off. Or you're given the generic information of "you can use your phone, just don't take pictures" which is what we were given for this room and based off the excellent job Jason did, I can assume that is the scripted information. Normally, if you need to use something in your phone, they'll advise to use your calculator or QR reader. So what happens if your party is escape room savvy and doesn't bring their phone? What happens if your phone doesn't find the wifi name you're magically supposed to know is a damn clue? What if your phone died mid game? What if you can't afford a phone right now? Additionally, another piece of this puzzle is located on a series of drawers that can be completely removed and the order of the information could be rearranged by mistake. Jason even made the point to mention that the wifi network has "failed many a team." NEWSFLASH if that many people are failing a clue or puzzle, it's bad and needs fixed. Overall, it was really fun up until that last minute. I've lost rooms before (very few, at this point it's now 6/108 that I've lost). And when it's the room that outsmarts me, it's ok because I still had fun. I left really frustrated because I felt the room was made to be failed and that's just not how you do escape rooms. Highly recommend going to Olde City or Gotham instead. read more

This is a fun- albeit difficult - escape room! This was my first escape room so take with that what you will. My guest and I were the only ones to RSVP to the room, so the room designed for 10 people , was Failed by only the two of us ahahaha... That being said it was a lot of fun, and although it was challenging, we got hints along the way. We participated in The Agency room and the theme was really well played out! The staff was all extremely kind, and even after we failed, they walked us through the rest of the room and taught us how to escape... we were so close! My only complaint is that obvious maintenance was needed and while it didn't take away from the overall escape experience, it definitely made you feel like you were in an escape room and not in character. There was also a few times where we would do the step required to move onto the next step/ unlock a clue etc. and the indication we had done so was so subtle, we wasted time moving on until a hint told us that we had completed it. This place itself is tucked away behind a reception desk at a suite building, and is down in the basement - definitely feels like a whole separate world! Overall this was a fun experience that I would certainly recommend,especially if a few small amends are made! read more

Overall a very positive experience! A lot of fun for a group of 9 of us. Everyone was very nice and the reservation process online and in person was good. Game master was helpful and enthusiastic even at 10PM at night. Room was a tad cramped for 9 people (max is 10). Nicely decorated and lots of puzzles to get through! A few electronic bits and pieces that make it seem like they really put a lot of effort into it. They've done a lot to really make you feel like you're in the environment set up by "the agency" scenario. I also liked the information delivery system inside. I will echo what another reviewer on here said: The game master ADMITTED that one of the puzzles is never solved without a clue from the game master (and truthfully it was super weird even after they gave us the clue and was completely non intuitive). If that many people have failed it, why not change it? Also one of the things that makes you automatically lose is near impossible to see unless you're a cat or a spy. We made it out with 6 min to spare. I also question their whole "only 20% of people escape" since it seems like they've been saying that for a while. Regardless, it was a very fun experience for us and a great thing for a large group of us to do together on a Saturday night. read more

I've been to quite a few escape rooms, and quality is all pretty similar, but this one in particular had exceptional service. Most escape rooms I've been too are run by people that are obviously smart, logical, practical, and condescending ...not this one. Kenny, the manager is definitely smart, logical, and practical, but he's always super nice, affirming, and excited to have folks visit. We didn't escape, and it was nice to be greeted by him afterwards and have him praise our strengths instead of making us feel like idiots. We will definitely be back! read more

I really enjoyed myself in "The Dig" escape room. My husband and I joined another couple who we didn't know, and we managed to escape. The room was fun, and Emily was our assistant outside the room who provided us with clues. Emily was very helpful, and so enthusiastic about the escape rooms. If I were the owner of this place, I would put Emily on the desk full-time, answering the phones and promoting the business to walk in customers. I look forward to returning to all of the escape rooms. I would encourage people to join random strangers to improve their odds of escaping the room. read more

The first hardest part of this is actually finding the escape room. We almost walked by it. So I suggest you remember what number the building is, so you don't walk by it. One of my friends suggested that we do this a month or so ago, and although I was a bit skeptical (paying $28 to be locked in a room for an hour? I can lock myself in a room for free!), I agreed. I am so glad that I did. My husband and I (along with 8 other friends and acquaintances) had a blast working together, working puzzles that required different perspectives, and escaping the room together. Once we got it, it was a bit of an adrenaline rush. According to the website, there is a 20% success rate. I am not sure if that is true, but it was definitely tough (and we only made it out with a bit over a minute to spare). This is a really fun activity for a group that enjoys puzzles, creative problem solving, and team-work. As such, I think that this would be a fabulous team-building activity. Suggestions for those who are about to attempt this: Don't overthink things (we did and we wasted time doing it), be open to others' views to solving problems, and bring a smart phone. Also, use the bathroom before your group goes into the room since there's no bathroom inside the Ikea office reenactment setting (though you can step out to use the bathroom, you would be wasting precious puzzle-saving time). read more

I wasn't sure what to expect but I was so darn excited about it. All that I know is that we will be locked in an office room for 60 minutes and we will have to scavenge for clues and put them together to find our way out. We were only two and paired with other 4 people and our thrill began! I felt like I was a player in real life iphone app game, very enjoyable and has just the right amount of difficulty to keep one interested. The room itself was nicely done with absolutely mind-bending and mysterious edge about it. Very intriguing game and great atmosphere and challenge . Now that we escaped it, I'm anxiously awaiting for the next mind teaser room! Philly will have to satisfy our craving for more of this challenges. Very brilliant Idea, we need more rooms! I have to preface this review with a caveat; the concept of Escape the Room is awesome. Its just in the execution of THIS particular spot where it comes up short. Lets start at the beginning. For my wifes birthday she wanted to check Escape The Room out, so we rounded up 8 other friends and headed down. Side note, it was damn near impossible to book a time, as they are pretty much booked SOLID at all times. After our pre-briefing, we were led into an office room and proceeded to sleuthing in an attempt to escape. Obviously, I won't give anything away, but I'll give my reasons for why this isn't a 5, or even 4 star event. One thing that really bothered me was just the absolute no frills-ness of the whole affair. There is ONE small office room, sparsely decorated, with a bunch of locked drawers and hidden clues. There was never really any ambiance to the event. It just felt like a real missed opportunity. There should have been more theatrics to the task; some kind of impetus to drive us to get out of the room. It was just like, "heres a room....try to get out of it, if you want...whatever." There was no "danger" or sense of impending doom or anything other than pride that drove us to want to complete the challenge. It also bothered me that after failing to get out of the room (grrrr), they came in and told us all the answers and how to get out of the room. I think that that was bad form as well. They should leave it a mystery; if not for a sense of mystique, for smart business sense. I'm sure some people would come back to try it again, but now we don't have to, because we know that the way to get out is to.......(got cha!) Overall, I think its a great idea, but I think its just so half heartedly done that its more of a letdown at the end of the day. I think if they jazz it up a little bit, and throw a little money into upgrades, that it will be a can't miss event. As it stands now, it was fun, and thats the highest praise I can give it. read more

One of my friends heard about this game from friends in NYC and that it was pretty fun so we decided to get a group of our ten friends to do it. The staff was super friendly and instructions were pretty clear. It was a fun experience, you're basically locked in an office with 10 people and you have to solve puzzles in order to escape the room. I thought the puzzles were all pretty fair. I heard you can do this with strangers but we went with people we all knew. I think it's definitely worth trying at least once. About 28 bucks a person, the room looked like it was assembled on a low budget but it's a prime location so the money is probably going towards the rent. read more

A group of coworkers and I did the Agency room. We made it out with 7 minutes to spare! The individual clues in the room definitely got the brain going and were pretty clever. There were a few things that were a bit challenging but you get a couple hints along the way. I really enjoyed the actual puzzles, but the overall challenge was a bit confusing. They told us we had three main objectives, and I think for a while we were so focused on completing those objectives that we weren't paying enough attention to the individual clues. In the end, we still weren't too sure of how all the objectives tied in. Overall though, the detail in the room was amazing and not cheesy looking at all, and we all really enjoyed ourselves. read more

This place was so fun we did it twice in one. On a trip from Dallas with some time kill so my teen daughter and some friends said they wanted to do an escape room. We've done many, all of the country and this one did not disappoint. They liked it so much they booked another one here a few hours later. read more

If Escape the Rooms are meant to be hard, then Escape the Room Philly gets 5 stars automatically. If they are meant to be overly exciting then, meh. Keep in mind this is a review of my personal experience, but I found the clues too challenging to be able to enjoy myself. Thankfully some members of my group were better problem solvers so that the rest of us could stand around getting in the way. The room itself was pretty cool. We did "the Agency" and I felt like I was in a real room, versus some fake staging set up. I also appreciated the clues given by the employees monitoring our game. I'd probably never go back, but if this is your thing, you'll definitely get your money's worth of deep thought and frustration. read more
