Every time I go in this place, I had to wait at least 30 minutes to even talk to somebody in the gun section. I received an undetermined status on the purchase of a handgun. They wanted me to jump through a bunch more hoops and charge 20% when I didn't cancel nor get denied for a license because I didn't have the time to jump three more hoops I swear I've spent three or four hours just waiting to talk to somebody there and 20% for an order that wasn't canceled or denied the owner Ben didn't want to lower the 20% even though I didn't cancel or get denied and basically told me to F off and if I didn't have such a big mouth for waiting around for 40 minutes to talk to somebody that he may have lowered the fee he can take it up with my bank because I am disputing the charges read more

NEVER AGAIN. These guys utterly ripped off a friend of mine who went in with a simple gun smithing task: provide scope rings, and mount his scope. They provided weak rings that were completely unsuited to his caliber, installed them incorrectly, damaging his brand new scope. Worse, when he test fired it, the scope slid in the rings, showing unmistakably that the installation was flawed. When he spoke with them, they offered no support of the products they sold or their installation using their parts, and provided only BS argument in return. An expensive life lesson. So my wife bought a gun from a company online website. Here's how it went: The company sent the gun to Olde West and we were to go to the store and pick it up, fill out the paperwork and wait 10 days.They never called so we called them. Yes they received it. We went to pick it up and the gentleman said I'm sorry we can't sell that to you. Hmmmm you didn't the other company did. We paid them not you. He went in the back and came back to say nope can't give it to you. That will be 75.00. Excuse me? You want 75.00 for what. That's our fee for receiving this item. But you are not handling it, you won't give it to us or give us any paperwork soooo? Well we have to send it back and if you don't have a return label you will have to pay for the shipping too. I showed up to Olde West to shop around since I've heard good things about the place. I have a 3 month old pup and I let him out to go pee in the parking lot (in a dirt patch) when some lady that was chaining her bike up out front (that was already talking to herself) whom I assumed was a homeless lady started yelling at me basically that Sherry didn't want people's dogs pissing and shitting in her yard. When I asked who she was she said she worked there, so I went inside to complain and the workers in there just stood there and didn't say hardly a word. So I had received some "costume jewelry", atleast that's what lady behind the counter had told me, from a trip I had recently taken. As the jewelry itself looked legit I decided to see if I can get some cash for them. 2 rings and one necklace. Since I had no real attachment to them I figured why not I could use the money. The place itself is not hard to find and its exterior. Is rather normal really. Inside is pretty stuffed. There is allot of merchandise on the floor to where it almost looks like your shopping in a maze. Since I was only there for one thing I had gone up to the counter spoke with the lady behind the counter, told her how I acquired the items. She looked at them through a monocle and then told me that they were not real and that they were basically just costume jewelry. Bummed out a bit I basically told her that I had no use for them and just gave them to her. Afterwards I kept thinking that I should've kept them instead of giving them away for her to sell since I'm pretty sure that's what she did after I left. Great place to buy just about anything. I go there for the guns. Bob is the star employee there, he knows his and is willing to spend time with you and make you feel comfortable with your purchases. The other guys are tolerable at best. I think they deal with a lot of law enforcement and the attitude rubs off. If your not one of them, and are unfamiliar with some guns, you are not one of the valued customers, no matter how many guns you may have purchased there in the past. Was in the market for a handgun in 45 ACP, wanted to shop around and see what was available locally instead of purchasing online like I normally do. Paid $1300 for a Sig pistol upfront cash. Came in to pick it up after my wait period and waited over 3 hours in the store to even talk to someone. I saw multiple employees walking around the gun counters yet not a single one could assist me. Once I was finally helped the service was abysmally slow even after I got their attention, so much so in fact I decided not to purchase spare magazines or another firearm I was interested in that I found while waiting. Rather buy it online and have it shipped to my regular dealer than deal with these clowns. From other reviews it seems they only stay in business by acting as predatory lender and scamming individuals out of their family inheritance. Avoid at all cost, go literally anywhere else unless you like buying used optics for more than MSRP. read more

They moved it and sited properly all at a NC. NC who does that these days?Wow I was expecting to drop it off and pick it up later but they did it right then and there. It is now the time of the quarantine and Olde West has been reliably open. Calls to the store are easy, no phone tree. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Sometimes they can seem a bit distant but this is them just being themselves. Not everyone wears 37 pieces of flair to work and I'm good with that. The owner is hands on and super down to earth. Their stock of new/used guns will surprise you. I think they are the largest locally owned retailer. I could be wrong but it sure seems like they have the most. I just picked up a browning buck mark and Smith Wesson Shield 9. I got it home, noticed what I thought was rust on the gun. I was wrong. Another trip down to the store and I was kindly helped and shown it's just brass. Boy I was embarrassed, but very grateful it wasn't rust..and the associates patience with me. So I would say there is definitely not a "live and let live" attitude here. I recently visited the old West and found the Corona virus precautions to be exemplary. They only allowed in a few customers at a time and discouraged violation of social distancing. I noticed a negative review saying they discouraged customers from out of town. Redding has few covid cases which were due to out-of-town travel in conjunction and poor social distancing . My brother-in-law bought a scope from them he brought it out after his line board by them. We went through a box and a half of shells and finally got it Saturday and we had one problem right off the bat. The scope had slid forward we had to loosen the screws and slide it back so we can adjust the power. He went in there after we sided it in back to the store, and Dan himself. Call my son-in-law that they mounted the mounting brackets on backwards so he took the scope off put the brackets on correctly boarded in again I just walked away. My son-in-law also was down there to buy a gun case for that gun. They only gave him a 15% discount, that was bullshit that was bullshit that they didn't replace the shelves that he had to waste trying to siding a gun with the mounting brackets placed on backwards the second guy he was talking to said that he's lucky they didn't charge him for remounting the scope again bullshit are used to deal with that store a lot I bought all my guns there. Why are they rip-off artists? Because you did not get what you wanted? That's not a cool or truthful statement. That's the bad part of the Internet in which anyone can say anything without merit. I LOVE this place. I have bought guns there at great prices. Example ONE: I bought a Benelli gun with top of the line scope that retails for $2,100. It was in perfect condition, has NEVER let me down and I picked it up for $1,200. AWESOME DEAL. Example TWO: I bought another Benelli, brand-new for cheaper than what you would have paid for at Big 5, Bass Pro, Cabela's, etc. I had an issue with one of my guns in which I lost a part while I was cleaning it and they happily replaced the part right away even though it was my fault that it got lost, for $10. I plan on going back and it should be noted that I live 275 miles away! I can go to any shop in the bay area, but none compare to this place so I just wait until I travel up north and get my stuff there. The people there are awesome, friendly and helpful. I guess everyone can have a different experience, mine on every single occasion has been awesome. Many people go to pawn shops and get mad because they do not get the price they want. I was then helped by someone who knew nothing about firearms and had to stumble around the counter with him trying to find what I was looking for. I was super relieved to find a place that has parts in stock that is in my local area but this reinforces why I prefer to order from online.... I recently used Olde West to do a FFL transfer for a pistol I bought directly from a manufacturer. I dealt with one salesman for the initial paperwork, and another for the final pickup after the 10-day waiting period. Both were very professional and friendly. And their cost for the transfer fee was quite reasonable compared to others in town. They do get busy at times, and one time early in the morning I left and came back an hour later after errands. This is a very busy local pawn shop, not Wal-mart. So if you're mad about having to wait, or If they are rude (which I will admit sometimes happens), just keep in mind they have to put up with rude and irritated people all day long. And they are extremley busy as well: it requires a long time to make these kinds of transactions. Why is this place so busy? Because it's one of the best pawn shops in Northern California and everyone knows it! I have bought 2 guns, 3 guitars, and countless other things at this place, and been fairly satisfied with the deals I got. Coming here is truley a step back in American history, and it feels good to deal local. I say deal because that's the order of the day, and if you can haggle you just might be surprised how willing these guys (and gals!) are to make a deal. Also, depending on the dude helping you, some guys that work there are incredible knoledgable of local and US history, and makes for some good conversation! I love stores like this because it's the way we used to do business before the big box stores came in and closed down main street. Old West also is one of the few gun retailers around that has a gunsmith in store, and a good one at that, an invaluable service for first time and even experienced gun owners. I had an issue with a foreign, relativley rare rifle, and he had no problem correcting the problem, and didn't even charge me even though it had been months since my purchase. If you buy from these guys, they will take care of you! You can also get the paperwork filed to sale your firearms, and they do a good job with that. I will say sometimes they don't have the best deals they could on some things, and sometiems just plain outrageous asking prices. Come on guys, this ain't Vegas! read more

Some of the rudest people i have ever met. I have purchased guns and ammo from them in the past, but never again. I went there today to purchase another gun and i absolutely could not stand the rudeness of the staff, so i decided to go to Bastiani Arms in Redding and the experience was totally different. Wonderful, kind people here. Was able to purchase the same pistol for $139. less. I would highly recommend Bastiani Arms for gun purchasing. I will NEVER shop Olde West ever again. As someone else said, I've only dealt with the gun shop side, so I can only comment on that aspect. I will say that it's no secret that you have to do your homework when dealing with a pawn shop. They are all in the business of making a profit and if a person can be taken advantage of, any pawn shop will take advantage of you to make more profit. This is the nature of the pawn business. If you get "ripped off," sorry, but the fact is shame on you. Olde West has a HUGE collection of firearms for sale, easily one of the largest, if not THE largest inventory I've seen anywhere. I found their prices to be as they should be, about on par with standard pricing guides for new and used firearms. Someone mentioned the poor customer service, and I'd agree this is generally true. In fact it's fairly ordinary for a gun shop in my long time experience as an old dude-firearms enthusiast. People who work in gun shops tend to not be the typical retail sales, people person type. But I can pretty much guarantee you one thing- if they appear to just walk by you and ignore you, it's because they are busy. If you need someone to acknowledge you with an, "I will be right with you sir," there's a cafe right down the street. This shop is an outstanding resource, worth getting off I-5 just to go in and see for yourself. I'd of given it 5 stars, but nobody's perfect. read more

You know, I'll give 5 stars to a burrito place or something but business business deserves special recognition. In my years in Redding I've always been impressed by this store. I have bought two guns here and always got great help from the staff. It's like an oasis from the Golden State, an example of what I envision Jefferson would be like but I digress. Where they really helped me out was when my ex-wife decided to do an offense restraining order on me I had to do something with my guns. My options were to give them to the police, and I am 100% pro-cop but I sort of would rather throw them off a cliff than do that. So I called Olde West and sure enough they were able to help me out. I did a 20 dollar loan on each gun (could have done more but I just wanted them stored) and they took them. They are effectively pawned at that time. You make payments and pay attention to dates. If you get close to your date they'll call you no big deal. When my lawyer squashed that BS that was on me and I could have my guns back I went in and unfortunately due to our awesome Golden State gun laws (see terrible) I did the 10 day waiting period to get my own guns back and had them returned. They took great care of my guns and me. Like I said I wish the whole North State could be like this. It's the beat gun shop I've ever been to and I can't thank them enough. read more

Olde West Gun & Loan is a great place to go when looking at a firearms. They have the best selections of pistols and rifles in the Redding area. I have made several firearms purchases through the years here. The earliest of which was in 1993 and the most recent was April 2017. I definitely recommend Olde West. The only thing that keeps my review at 4 stars instead of 5 is that they are often busy and it can take a long time until one of the sales people is free to help you. read more

I was in Redding last week to visit a relative and asked a local where a good gun shop was in the area. He told me about Old West and said it was the place to go. Well, I loved this place. They had a great selection of weapons, accessories, ammo, and antique guns to look at. From what I saw, the prices on new weapons was comprabable to the best I had found elsewhere. The staff all seemed friendly, and the woman who helped me was friendly, knowledgable, and helped me get the right part I needed. The pawn shop part of the store was just fun period! A little bit of everything and some of the antique stuff I saw was amazing. Next time I'm in Redding, I'll stop by here again just to browse more and add some things on my "someday I'll get that" list. The staff know so much about weapons, ammo, laws, pending legislation etc. They have a great verity of new guns, antique and slightly used arms. So I called them on the phone and a guy answered the phone, I was looking to pawn my PS4 for two weeks at max. I asked how much they normally pawn this item for his reply was, "we can't give prices over the phone, we have to look at it and make sure it works." I understand wanting to make sure it works but all pawn shops have set prices on ticket items like this. I drive all the way there, "20 miles each way" as I walk in both the male and the female employee keep eyeballing the PS4 each chance they had while I stood in line for 45 minutes with me being next in line as I walked in, "that's how slow the service is here." They kept answering the phone and then walking off and talking with other people. instead of dealing with the people that are there now or asking the people on the phone to please hold.... So now I have been seated and the guy asks how much I would like to pawn it for. Keep in mind its still in the box and he has not seen it nor tested it "and this is the same guy that said he cannot give a set price till he looks at it and tests it." He says 50.00!!! what a joke for something that sells for 399.99 + tax and thats not including the games he said that's the "SET PRICE" they pawn them for, now why couldn't he had told me that over the phone and saved me driving 40 miles and wasting my time? VERY VERY VERY poor customer support, its almost non existent at this establishment I will never walk through this business doors ever again. I now see why this place has bad reviews. Neat pawn shop. I came with my boyfriend who was looking for some gun sights, which he found and is happy with. They have a lot of guns, as well as musical instruments, jewelry, coins, etc. I was surprised at how busy the store is. A lot of people coming and going. Not a whole lot of people behind the counters, and the people who work there aren't dressed any special way that you can identify them. I didn't see anything I particularly wanted, but my boyfriend got what he needed, and his mom and sister looked at some jewelry but didn't buy anything either. read more
