Overheard the young man at the front counter commenting on a customers tattoos. He questioned if they were nazi symbolism and the customer was shocked and explained they were from a game. The employee to our shock then claimed "it wouldn't be so bad if they were" and they were okay people. I encourage all to consider shopping at a more open and positive environment. I stopped in for Kevin's tie dye (glad he's still doing what he does after all these years!) But they had an ample supply of beautiful t-shirts etc. Oh! And the wind chimes in the right back. Stumbled upon this store because of their colorful outdoor building design while I was picking up some cupcakes - was curious and wanted to see what they had. I went on a Saturday and it was quite busy which was a good sign to me! Every associate was busy with someone, which gave me time and space to explore and look around! They have a lot of clothing, jewelry, candles, incense, cards, crystals, and small accessories from what I saw . I immediately found a couple of beautiful vermeil rings that I was interested in. I waited for a woman to finish with her customers she was helping, and she was immediately friendly and helped me try on rings from the case. She was very kind and knowledgeable. She mentioned she does silver work which was so cool to know that she had experience in what she was selling. Unfortunately, the ring I absolutely loved was too big and they did not have the size I wanted - but the woman helped me and suggested some other rings in my size range. I did settle on a beautiful vermeil pearl ring with metal work. It was 110$, which is a reasonable price to me because it was what I purchased a few other rings at from different companies. The metalwork and design was beautiful. if the business owner sees this I am curious to know how often they restock size 6 and 7 rings? I only have two rings that I love and am hoping to come back to complete my every day stack - but I forgot to ask while I was in. What a great find! This was probably my favorite store in Redding...they have something for everyone at every price point. Found some crystals in their front case and tiny stands at a great price. The selection was vast, great energy with plenty of help when looking for something specific. I found the lady in the front, most knowledgeable. I've been very upset for the past two days. I am 50, but I like to think that I look young for my age. I am told I look 40 but think that with the Botox I look 45. Unfortunately, I was buying an earring back for $1 and the associate asked me if I happened to be 55 as there was a discount. Would it be worth it to ask that for saving ten or twenty cents? I also dress quite young and am fit, so it was a double whammy coming from an associate that was no spring chicken themselves. See the recent comment from Sarah M. about the lack of service. "You must go to the Beadman" I always get greeting cards, tie-dye tops & jewelry there. So this is the haul from my last visit. A tie-dye tee shirt that reminds me of watermelon & summer, a tie-dye top that is so soft to the touch & matching dichroic blue earrings & a pendant of the tree of life that I in there at Christmas. So happy they still had it. Also 2 sterling silver rings, I have 3 spinner rings now. The owner helped with the jewelry & Jamie & Athena helped with the tie-dye. I was in Redding for the weekend, it was my first time there. I went to the Beadman because it was recommended to me. I heard they had shirts and candles. I was Facetiming my child to see what their input was on the candles. Right away, one of the clerks took the candles out of my hands and said it would be at the register. I was profiled. I am a POC. Just walked in with my daughter. Couldn't wait to show her this cool little store I remember from when I lived here 6 years ago. We must've walked by about 4-5 employees who didn't speak to us let alone make any eye contact. We poked around a bit and walked right out. Not a "goodbye" or a "thank you" or a "have a nice day". I went into the beadman and I seem to notice the younger staff is very nice, but this one lady working really rubbed me the wrong way. I tried something on and she told me I really shouldn't be wearing it, she was constantly hustling me to let her take my items to the front desk as soon as I expressed interest in anything. I didn't feel I had any privacy in my conversation with my partner with me. idk if I wasn't dressed right or what but it really felt like she was assuming I was going to steal. Just because I was wearing one of there necklaces for a minute. Very rude and judgmental the way she looked and talked to me. Last Saturday I took my daughter and my husband into the store to get new chains for our necklaces. I was greeted by a wonderful woman that pointed us directly to the jewelry counter where another young lady immediately began helping us. She was knowledgeable, friendly and not pushy. The store is so clean, prices are clearly marked and the atmosphere is so happy! Upon check out I was given a discount card and really made to feel special even though it was my first visit. Awesome for beads, meh for metaphysical supplies. If you're a serious practitioner looking for specialty items, you won't find much here. They've got colored candles, a small selection of herbs and common crystals, a few tarot decks, bells, incense, etc. If you're looking for bead supplies or are just sort of curious and dabbling you'll probably really enjoy this shop. I was hoping they'd have more of a cultivated metaphysical selection but this shop caters more to the hippie than the magickal, with more novelty tie-dye stuff, dragons, rainbow candles, wall hangings, etc. Obviously that's what they're going for, so it's still a fun browse and a good place to pick up a cute mortar and pestle. read more

Especially a lady named Athenia (?) who was very patient with me while I selected two rings from their array of sterling silver jewelry. The Beadman has improved a lot since my last review!! The customer service has become much better . My last few shopping experiences there have been positive and enjoyable. They are reasonable with their pricing and have a nice selection of jewelry and beads. They have fixed and made me jewelry many times lately which turned out nice. They have hired a couple more employees and they are both friendly and helpful each time I have shopped there. Today, I went in looking for a particular type of bead I saw online. After browsing the store with no luck, I went up to the closest employee and showed her a picture of the bead. I was hoping she could direct me to an area I might have missed, or at the very least, confirm to me that they didn't have anything like it. Instead, she looked up and said in a very annoyed tone, "This is a bead store. Look around." I was baffled by such an unenthusiastic and unhelpful response. I explained, the only reason I asked was because I didn't see anything and wanted to make sure. In return, she didn't even look up at me, rolled her eyes, and muttered "Look through the bins. That's how bead stores work." I was taken a back and said something along the lines of, "Sorry, I didn't realize. It's my first time in." It was clear she didn't want to give me the time of day because she ignored me and went back to whatever she was doing. All I did was ask a genuine question, only to be immediately shut down. I refuse to shop anywhere that customers are treated poorly and made to feel stupid. Customer service should always be a top priority. I have been going to this business for years buying tumble stones, jewelry and gifts for others but no more!! All they seem to care about is pushing their bead classes and who spends the most!! You can spend hundreds here and they will still act rude and uptight about helping you most of the time. Some of the staff at times are somewhat friendly but moody probably because they have to put up with the owners. I have heard a few of their comments when the owners are not there and they are not good ones. I was thinking of joining there bead classes but I will find another means on line or somewhere more appreciative of their customers. Redding is growing so I hope another similar business will come to town who will provide a positive, enjoyable buying experience. If we are lucky enough to get such a store then The Bead man will not make it.This store has a few unique items at times but not worth a trip back here. They need to stand next to their "positive" gemstones and maybe the crystals might rub off and help their dumb negative attitudes!!! They seem to have a little clique there so let them keep them. I was fooled by a few smiles now and then but No More. A crystal shop should be more positive. It's okay to be busy but not rude and creepy as far as I am concerned. I love Soul Connections in Mt. Shasta and Gaumers in Red Bluff. They are always busy but helpful and never rude even with a lot of customers to wait on. If they are working with you, they stay with you until you are finished with your purchases even if your only spending a small amount. First time visiting this store we were in town running errands and wanted to get some sage and incents. There has been a lot of recent advertising for this store and so we decided to go check it out! Upon entering we were greeted by a women at the cashier. Shortly after we came in another individual came in after us the women and Another young girl who was working at the bead section both greeted this man and the younger girl asked him if there was anything in particular she could help him find I really thought she was talking to us and as I turned around to ask her where the sage was i realized she was not talking to us at all she avoided all eye contact with us and we made our way to find what we were looking for. Two more people came in the store and one after the other we noticed both these women greet the ppl entering the store and once again the younger girl asked if she could assist them in anything. I then realized maybe because my husband and I are Latinos that we were the only ones being treated differently than the others. I then immediately wanted to leave but my husband insisted we get wat we went for so we did and checked out with the lovely women at the cashier and once we left the younger girl once again gave us the cold shoulder and did not say good bye to us even when I had witnessed her saying good bye "thanks for coming in" to the other individuals that had also left the store and had not even made a purchase! This affected my husband and I after we left it made us feel really sad that we had been through that situation and possibly because of our ethnicity (I mean what else) Not sure if this young girl could be the owners daughter since its 'family owned' never the less it was definitely our last time ever going to that store and I have shared this experience with my family members so they avoid going through what we did. read more

Got stuck in Redding, decided to hit the local beading stores - well, beading store. The Beadman is a beading store, a hippie type store, and a seller of finished jewelry. I only paid attention to the beading portion of the store. The selection was varied, and different than what I see at other places. There were a bunch of carved stone fetishes that I went through, looking to find a decent phoenix to work with. (Failed. Again. *sigh*) As with all bead stores, some prices are good, some are poor, and others are fantastic. Some of the fetish's prices were pretty good; the gem strands they had were at market value, and the findings & other random beads were varied and decently priced. They have a fairly large selection of gems where, as well as tons of glass & seed beads. Next time I'm stuck in Redding, I'll probably make a return trip. read more

I went into The Beadman within a month of my mothers death. I was looking for charms to work on a bracelet that my mom had started for me but was unable to finish. I wanted charms to memorialize our friendship and relationship. Serenity helped me find what I was looking for and put the connectors on for me. Cards, incense, tye-dye clothing, candles, jewelry (rings, necklaces, earrings), figurines, wind chimes, pipes, trinkets, sarongs, dream catchers etc....look up and you'll see all different flags/banners on the walls, mirrors, etc.. The only issue was my fiancé and I kept getting followed by this "would be" hippy woman with terrible hygiene who would wait until we looked at something then literally shove herself between us and the item and ask if we needed help over and over again... at one point she even ran behind the counter and starting waving her arms saying "you're welcome to look at anything but this area is off limits". We were, no joke, 10 feet from where she was talking about and going the opposite direction. I just feel if you are going to be that out of it, don't come to work. Also, if you are going to aggressively invade someone's space, brush your teeth so your rancid fish slaughter house breath doesn't scare potential customers away. Just a thought. This is one of my favorite bead stores to go to and one that I'm a bit partial to since it's located in my hometown. This store used to be half the size, but carried the same amount of beads that it currently has. They expanded a while back when the people in the suite next to theirs moved. Their bead selection is pretty huge as far as czech and seed beads are concerned. They have a wall covered with both, as well as a corner and counter for gemstone beads. They have boxes of tubes of seed beads, as well as boxes that hold singles you can buy, although their variety of single beads can't hold a candle to the variety of strands and tubes they have. The gemstone selection is ok. There are things that I think are overpriced, but there are also strands that are at fair or good prices. Really, you just have to know what you can get elsewhere and whether or not the quality of the stones are to your standard. I've never bought much from them because we have a local gemstone/bead show that rolls through town every few months, so I don't generally buy many gemstones elsewhere anymore since the prices at the show are so much better. In any case, it's still worth taking a look at their stones because there is a chance of finding some hidden treasure there. They do have a fairly large selection of books and jewelry making tools, which I generally don't look through, but if you've looking for them, they've got them. The pricing on the tools is competitive; I can't say if the books are though. They have plenty of your typical beading supplies, threads, cord, needles, mats, trays etc, at really reasonable prices too. They have a findings section in the store, which does have a lot of things, but to me is not as great as it could be. I have things that I've bought from them that I'll probably never use because their labels aren't very clear as to what exactly the findings are made of. I may have asked in the store and gotten an answer, but months later, I'm not going to remember whether or not the base metal contains nickel (which some are allergic to) and won't be able to use them. Also I have had jumprings that were plated, but the plating wasn't very good and it rubbed off within weeks. So I never bought jumprings from them again. That being said, I'm sure that they have findings which are great, but honestly with the system they've got going I think it's better to order things off the internet and be able to know exactly what you got. It's also not that easy to dig through and find things when the store is more busy at times. They also carry plenty of wire and I'm fairly sure that they have a selection of chain as well, but I've never really noticed it. They also have a section of the store which is more natural type beads and materials; leather, feathers, porcupine quills, fur, etc. The staff are friendly, although sometimes they do seem fairly busy and I hesitate to bother them with any questions I have. I need a little help with some color matching the last time I was there and the woman who helped me was very nice and also helped me a great deal. The other half of the store is kind of a hippy type store, but not as much as it was previously. There is a pretty large selection of wind chimes (I always want to play with all of them) and a fairly massive selection of all sorts of finished jewelry that is really quite nice. A lot of silver stuff. There's dream catchers hung all over the ceiling of the store, and if you're short like me it might be a little surprising when you finally notice all of them just hanging out there the entire time. I buy beads and jewelry supplies from them so I can't vouch for prices of other things in their store. From my experience, The Beadman has some of the fairest prices that I have seen in a bead store. I would definitely recommend this store to anyone looking for jewelry making supplies. A major thing to note about this store. They have great sales, so if you're planning to go on a bead rampage, you can buy tons and tons of things and get a pretty amazing discount when they're having a sale. It's usually around holidays, but I'm sure they have other sales too. I've never been disappointed by any of their sales. Sale time is the best time (obviously) to hit them up. If I had to pick one bad thing about this bead store, it's the fact that they don't have a website. I talked to the owner a year or so ago and mentioned that I was surprised that they didn't have one. I'd buy from them in a heartbeat if they had stock online, but they don't. The owner said that they didn't have plans for any sort of website either (keep in mind this was a year ago) and that made me extremely sad because I know that they'll probably end up dying a slow death eventually if they don't catch up or compete with the internet. I am baffled by the employee I just encountered here. She was EXTREMELY RUDE. She acted like I was causing her an inconvenience by inquiring about a product that was in the store. I asked what size a certain thread was and she looks at me and says "It's on the paper," in a rude tone and then I said it says one needle is on there and she guessed .5 and I showed her one that was .7 which is smaller so that thread that I was asking about would be bigger and she shrugs her shoulders and says, "well I can't help yah then." I wanted to cry I became so upset immediately and confused as to why someone who is in an employee at the store didn't give two s**** about answering my question when I had done nothing to wrong her. I will not be shopping here anymore. I had been coming here often to pick up thread for my necklaces but you know what I would rather make my customers wait 4 more days in the mail so that I can order from Fire Mountain at a better price and with better customer service. Other employees here are rude too but this was just the icing on the cake. Oh and just so everyone knows it was a younger girl with short blond hair. don't ask her anything because one she doesn't know and 2 she doesn't care. I am livid. They have a big selection but they didn't have what I needed. Doesn't anybody make leather jewelry and need heavy sturdy clasps? They didn't even have end caps that I could clamp down to the leather ends. Very disappointed they don't carry what I need and again I have to order online from another store. read more

The Beadman must have started out as a bead shop and then expanded to include lots of other "new age" type items because when I visited them they had a big selection of things that make you go "ooooh" and "ahhhh." Definitely eye candy in this place...there are velvet purses, crystal rock and gem stones, incense, cards, bohemian style (and tye dye) clothing, beautifully made jewelry, and a plethora of other cool things you will want. The store is large and always well staffed but could use a bit of a makeover to make the separation between the retail gift side and the beading supply side. Regardless, I always find something I love there. Upon reading other reviews I see that some of their staff can shadow you a little too much (I never experienced that) but with that said they need to find a balance between watching for theft and good customer service. One suggestion for the buyer....bring in some Angel and Oracle decks. read more
