It's been seven years since I wrote a review for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department so I think…read moreit's time to write an update. This update reflects the changes that have been made due to the Covid-19 pandemic. First of all, no I do not frequent the Sheriff's Department because I'm in trouble. I make an annual visit each year in October to pay our property taxes. It's always an easy procedure to climb the grand Court House stairs, walk to the end of the main floor hallway, enter the office and carry out my business. This year I wasn't sure if any changes would be made due to the up surge in Covid19. I still got a parking spot in front of the Court House, climbed the front stairs, and walked to the end of the first floor hallway. Upon entry into the office I experienced the only change. A nice plexi glass partition had been installed on the counter top with cutouts to hand paperwork through. In front of the counter was a long table lengthwise that assured customers would not be too close to the window. I handed my tax bill and check to the Sheriff and he promptly rang it up, stapled the receipt to the bill and handed the paperwork back to me I'm paid up for another year. Thanks for making this process so easy.

The facility itself looks well-maintained and professional from the exterior, with clear signage and a clean, orderly appearance. The surrounding area felt calm and easy to navigate, with convenient parking and good visibility around the building. It gave the impression of an active, functioning public safety office that's taken care of.

I called the Jeffersonville Police Department, to ask about the current laws regarding the newish…read moreroundabouts. Previously, someone had told me there was a new law prohibiting vehicles from driving alongside semis, while in a roundabout. I was calling to ask if that was actually a law, to ensure that if a semi crosses over the lane (happens almost every day) and strikes my vehicle, that I would not be at fault. The dispatcher I spoke to kept giving audible and exaggerated sighs, and told me that I needed to call City Hall, not the police (incorrectly assuming that I called to complain about the roundabout). I'm not sure why the dispatcher would tell me that I should call someone other than law enforcement, to inquire about the current laws they enforce.

My experience w/ this local PD revolved around being stranded, on a holiday, with 2 flat tires…read more Let's call it a bad day. The K-9 officer pulled up behind us on the shoulder. I got out to talk to him and he asked "are you guys ok?" And "what kind of help do you need?" Once he found out that we were already waiting for a tow truck he told me to stay in the car, get some AC,(it was 94° that day) relax the wife and kid, and stay safe. He stayed parked behind us with his lights on until the tow truck got us out of there. He was very kind, courteous, helpful and professional. He was what ALL cops should be......

Oldham County added something new this year for Elections…read more They are allowing three days of early voting, with no excuse. It is held at the John Black Community Center. This is a wonderful facility and on voting day it was set up for election central and very well staffed. There were officials to check you in , give you a ballot and show you where you could sit and make out the ballot. Once completed you just walk over to a scanner and insert your ballot and in seconds you are on your way. No long lines to stand in and no hassels. Congratulations Oldham County. It is great to see our taxes working so well.

Officer S Norton decided not to help me after a hit and run where I was on foot hit by a box truck…read more I tried to offer him the license plate 3 times but he needed my information and to work outside his scope as a paramedic. Instead of taking the information he decided not to take ownership and write himself a favorable report. Dispatch is an absolute joke and I had to offer them my location 4 different times to 2 different dispatchers. The second dispatcher wanted to argue and cancel my request. It took a third dispatcher to finally take down the correct location. It took 25 minutes to arrive. Defund these lazy folks.

I got robbed. You…read moreknow the story: well-lit area, felt safe, lots of people around. Never thought it would happen to me, yet it did. Officers from District One responded to the scene within minutes. Two cars, two Segway cops, and an undercover unit. In total, I had six officers arrive to help track down the thief. They listened, they asked the right questions, and explained to me what they were doing and how the process would work. An officer even accompanied me home to make sure I was safe. Later, I met with detectives to discuss activity on my account from the thief. They were able to use the information I provided to track down the suspect, make an arrest, and retrieve my property. It only took a week to get everything resolved. I was pleased with District One throughout the entire ordeal. From a quick police response time, to regular communication with detectives, and an increase in patrol following the incident, Cincinnati Police made me feel at ease during a stressful and traumatic time.

Cincinnati Police Department is horrible. They are supposed to be civil servants of the community…read moreand yet when you call them to handle disputes amicably, their only response is that they don't handle "civil matters." I report a theft from a business that went through my personal belongings, and when I politely asked for my items back, the employee was rude, dismissive, and passive aggressive. Called them for assistance and the first thing they do is side with her. Yeah, you all deserve ever that's coming to you.

This is a highly trained, extremely professional police force. Possibly the best that Bullitt…read moreCounty, KY has ever seen. Four or five stars, easy. But these guys are in trouble. The city of Shepherdsville is in a state of financial crisis and the best and brightest police officers, under the looming threat of lay-offs and salary cuts, are leaving in droves. That being said, these fine men and women have the best reputation of any law enforcement agency around. If I were traveling through Bullitt County, KY and I were in need of assistance, then I would certainly hope that one of the Shepherdsville Police Department's officers would be the ones to respond. I hope the same can still be said in the coming months. The mismanagement by the city administrators and the attrition of the best, most highly skilled officers to other agencies limits my rating of this department to three stars.
