My first time here and Missy gave fabulous service. Thank you. She took time even though busy to helped me make good selections. Got the Pulled Pork and Chicken. Delicious as was the sauce. Roll was good as were the baked beans and vinegar coleslaw! I was a little disappointed that the green beans tasted canned. Stopped in for a quick lunch before heading into work yesterday. Last time I was in was during the Springtime, I had been wanting to write an update for Ole Dad's B B Q for some time now. Well, I only ordered a stuffed potato, Pulled Pork on top. Pork was tasty & tender, overall I was very satisfied. I was given a cup of mild sauce, I did note that the BBQ sauce provided was thicker than the usual vinegar-based BBQ sauces of other local BBQ establishments. Would certainly drop back in again to sample other items on the menu. read more

This is my first and last time that I will eat here. This is the first BBQ that I have ever tasted that did not have have any SEASONINGS. Vinegar slaw just cabbage and vinegar, no salt, pepper or sugar to offset the vinegar. I had to add pepper just to have something on it. Baked beans had NO onions, brown sugar/molasses. Just straight from the can and warmed on the stove nothing baked about them. Hush puppies were so bad that I took a bite and it was returned to my napkin. The white BBQ sauce is mayo and vinegar. Ole Dad's must mean that ole dad did not use salt and pepper. Trust me salt and pepper go a long way. To be honest Gordon Ramsey may have to come to this place and take over lol. read more

One of my co-workers recommended that I try Ole Dad's B B Q and I am thankful that he did! Let me start by saying that the building itself leaves much to be desired. The seating area is not temperature controlled and even has screen windows. I went there on a day that it was particularly cold, so we had to take our food home. Also, the tables were plastic picnic tables. But with a restaurant, it should be all about the food. And Ole Dad's BBQ delivered great food! The portions are quite large, the price was very reasonable and it tasted great. My son is very picky, and he enjoyed the Rib Plate with french fries with cole slaw. He thought they were the best ribs that he ever ate. He couldn't even come close to eating all of the food - all for $8.50. I had the half chicken and it was great.. The meat was falling off the bone and tasted very good. My girlfriend got a pulled pork plate and she said it was very good. The 3 of us at a huge dinner for only $24.00, making it quite affordable - especially for BBQ! It's a small family owned business and I met the owner and the owner's sister that night. NOTE - They do NOT accept credit cards. Cash and Check only. They are closed on Sunday and Mondays, which seems to be the norm in Hazel Green area. read more

I drove out here hoping for a hidden gem. A classic hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint with outstanding food. The ladies working the counter were very friendly and helpful but unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. I got large a pork plate with "hot sauce" over the mild option. I also opted for extra sides and I wanted to try a few things: mac & cheese, hushpuppies, baked beans, and the mayo slaw. My pork plate was really mushy, which is not a word you should use with meat, and the sauce simply was Frank's Red Hot. I didn't realize it would literally just be "hot sauce", which was slightly disappointing even though I do like Franks Red Hot. The mac & cheese was definitely of the frozen variety, big fat oversaturated noodles that dissolve in your mouth with a bland "not quite yellow, not quite white" colored sauce. The baked beans and slaw were fine, tasted mass produced, nothing special. The hushpuppies were pretty good though so there is that. I'd like to think I just came on a bad day, because I wanted to like this place. Probably won't come back though. read more

We wanted to try smoked chicken with white barbeque sauce while visiting our kids in Alabama. Went through the drive through(!!!!) at Ole Dad's. The lady working could not have been nicer and answered all of my questions. We ordered the whole chicken with white bbq and a pound of pulled pork with both hot sauce and bbq sauce. Both the chicken and pork were so good the guys went back for another chicken and ribs that were also really good. Great food, great service, very reasonable prices! read more

There are many tasty barbecue restaurants in Alabama but Ole Dad's is THE best, IMO. I'm not giving it five stars because of the slaw, which is virtually tasteless. Maybe I'm a coleslaw snob, but wow, no thanks. Overall, it's yummy and their tangy sauce is great, prices are very reasonable. I shall return. read more
