This is the closest I've found to Memphis BBQ in north Alabama. Everything I have tried has been excellent.

It was extremely tender and melts in your mouth! You don't need a knife because it falls apart on its own and it was seasoned to perfection. The smoked wings were delicious as well and paired perfectly with the white sauce. The mac wasn't the greatest but I enjoyed the potato salad. The Texas toast was a great addition and was perfect for creating a little bbq sandwich. My total came out to around $32 which I felt was a bit pricey when I had paid but after getting my plate I realized how large the portions were which totally justified the cost. At most BBQ restaurants I usually finish all my food but here I had left overs so I basically got 2 meals out of the one plate. Another thing I liked is that they have a variety of sauces and they aren't stingy with them. Overall this is a great spot with friendly staff that provides wonderful service. The food is delicious and the restaurant is clean and well decorated. I will definitely be back! I was told that Boarhog's is the best BBQ in Huntsville and I can now confirm that as true!

The fish was fresh, seasoned well and cooked crispy like I requested it. I love their vinegar slaw and the baked beans were good. Not going to lie, I was a bit shocked how small the pieces of fish were considering generous portions of other foods I've tried here. I ordered the 3 piece, thinking I'd have a little leftover for dinner, but nah. Lol. It IS enough for a lunch portion, though. Their loaded nachos are still my favorite thing to eat here!

This! Place! Needs! More! Hype!…read more Okay, back to typing normally. Kar's Char is a relatively new Texas-style bbq place inside of Lowe Mill. It occupies the full restaurant space that used to belong to The Veggie and belonged to Happy Tummy before that. It's to the left of Piper and Leaf as you face P&L from the parking lot. I only belabor this point because some folks do have a hard time navigating Lowe Mill and no one should miss out on giving this place a try because they can't find it. I saw a few posts about Kar's Char when they first opened and have had them bookmarked since then. Recently, I was in the area after work around 2 PM and looking to kill some time before a doctor's appointment. I was feeling hungry and figured why not give them a go and enjoy a little time at the Mill while I waited. I arrived and took a few minutes to look at the menu. I am, admittedly, freakishly obnoxious and snobby about barbeque and was determined to have a positive experience, so I decided not to play with fire that day and instead decided to order one of their burgers, which I'd seen a few people rave about online. I selected their hatch green chili cheeseburger and placed an order for that. It comes with one side and I decided on macaroni and cheese. They have bottled drinks available next to the register and so I grabbed a water out of the cooler to round things out. My burger was cooked fresh just for me so I had a few minutes to hang around and take in the fun, nerdy, classic Lowe Mill ambiance. This is a truly local business and they seem very dedicated to supporting and uplifting their fellow businesses in and around the Mill. The service I received was incredibly kind and welcoming -- they really do seem like lovely folks here. My burger came out piping hot and cooked perfectly, with slightly crispy, charred edges and a juicy center. It was a delicious burger, slightly spicy but nothing scary, and I especially loved the chili lime aioli -- added a nice creaminess and moisture. To my pleasant surprise, the soft, lightly toasted bun held up to all the goodness pretty well! Next time I will probably ask for no pickles -- I found their flavor a little overwhelming -- but I am also hot and cold on my feelings about pickles so your mileage may vary! I say keep them on if you're a big fan, and take them off if not. :) The macaroni and cheese was enjoyable but not as good as the burger. Next time I come I will probably try out a different side. Overall, 4.5/5, with extra high marks for the hatch green chili burger and the charming, welcoming staff/owners. I'll be back to try the actual barbeque, and certainly to have another burger!

This place is a gem!!! And definitely a new contender for some of what I feel is best bbq in town…read more We came here after we found the place we initially intended to go no longer operating on Wednesdays. Honestly pretty glad for that inconvenience, because it brought us to Barbeque Heaven! There's not a ton of parking, so come in a smaller car if you can. The inside is just a couple of tables and booths with plastic table coverings on them and you order at the counter. You can smell the smoke as you walk up and it smells delicious! I got the impression the man working the register was perhaps the owner. He was very kind, patient, and excited to share with us about their product. He had a good sense of humor and a warm laugh. My mom and I both got the lunch special -- a bbq sandwich with one side and a drink. The price was right and the portions were generous. We both got pulled pork on our sandwiches. I got French fries and she got macaroni and cheese so we could both try each. We also got to sample all three sauces: white sauce, slightly spicy, thinner red sauce, and thicker, sweet red sauce. Honestly, everything we ate was great. The pork was super tender, just smoky enough, and not at all fatty/greasy/gristly (which is my preference by a mile). Good ratio of burnt ends, too. My /only/ very minor critique is that the buns smelled a little weird. Idk if it was the bag they were stored in or what, lol. But they didn't taste weird at all, and their texture was pleasant, so not a huge deal at all. The French fries probably weren't fresh cut, but they were freshly fried, nice and crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside, with some flavorful seasoning coating the exterior. No ketchup needed! The macaroni and cheese was creamy and flavorful, with some crispy cheese on top. We took a combo home for my dad and got him some fried okra; I stole a couple pieces and it, too, was delicious! Flavorful breading and perfectly crispy. Lastly, I nabbed a slice of their obviously homemade red velvet cake. I was too full to eat it til after dinner, haha. The crumb was absolutely perfect - super moist and delicate. The cream cheese icing was, as expected, sweet! But it wasn't crazy sweet and the chopped pecans added a really nice new textural element. This place is well worth the drive if you don't live nearby. I know I'll be looking for excuses to head out their way in the future to get some more delicious bbq.

I have been eating Big Bob's BBQ my whole life. The quality and taste of the pork shoulder, smoked chicken, and Brunswick stew I recently purchased was very very disappointing. We ordered 2 pounds of pork shoulder. The meat had no taste. I couldn't detect hickory smoke. The pork was burnt and very fatty. The accompanying vinegar based sauce was not seasoned like previous times. Basically it was vinegar with little seasoning. 1/5 The smoked chicken, my favorite, was dry. I wondered if it was leftover from the previous day. The seasoning wasn't very good. 2/5 The Brunswick stew was not good. The recipe has changed. It tasted sweet which was off putting. I do not remember Brunswick stew tasting sweet. The quart of stew had 10 tiny pieces of potato and a few corn kernels. I saw some pork meat floating in a strange red colored broth. I remember when stewed tomatoes were in the stew. Not anymore. The soupy stew did not taste very good. 2/5 The potato with pulled pork was ok. The sauce given was a thin vinegar base that had little seasoning. The potato was the best thing I ate from Big Bob's. 3/5 I am thoroughly disappointed with the quality and taste of Big Bob's pulled pork, smoked chicken and Brunswick stew. I will return again. It will be a while though. I can't get this visit out of my head. This feels like a bad Twilight Zone episode. I really have enjoyed the foods from here in the past. Sadly, not this time. 2/5

The service was good, nothing to rave about but everyone was nice. The food, though, didn't quite meet my expectations. The brisket was a bit dry, the tri tip was somewhat chewy, and the mac and cheese was surprisingly watery. The chili was also kind of cold, which made it hard to enjoy. That said, not everything missed, the wings were really good, and the smoked chicken stood out with super crispy skin while staying juicy inside. I also liked the slaw. Overall, it felt a bit overpriced for what you get because of the portion size (my total came out to around $75 for two 3 meat plates and smoked wings during happy hour). I'm glad I gave it a try, but it's probably not somewhere I'd go back to.

My wife got a pulled pork sandwich and beef-fat tots. Our dining friends ordered some of the pork cracklings as a shareable side. All in all, the food was outstanding-- the cornbread was absolutely terrific, perhaps the best I've ever had. The mac and cheese is smoky and flavorful. The brisket was tasty, as was the pulled pork. The cracklins were fantastic! While good, the ribs were not particularly outstanding; and some of the pulled pork and brisket was a bit fattier than I prefer, but not terribly so. In short, very good if not absolute best BBQ I've ever had. But good enough I'd return. Clean, large space with some great drink specials and options as well (it looks like). Prices roughly what you'd expect for quality meat in 2025 with all our current economic issues entail. It's self-serve, but they do drop your plates.

Hands down the best broccoli salad I've ever had. No onions. Perfect. The baked beans were right up there in the top 10, maybe top 5 of all time. The pulled pork? Ehh. Not the best. A little dry. The plate was served in to-go box, a very full to-go box - the amount of food served was astounding. I planned on bringing home extras to serve to the family for lunch the next day. By now the brisket was ready. I also ordered a large baked beans, green beans, banana pudding and a pound of chopped chicken to go. The mac and cheese still wasn't done. We arrived around 12:16 p.m. on Juneteenth and waited only about five minutes for a table of three. Once seated, Ethan provided exceptional service from start to finish. He was friendly, knowledgeable, offered thoughtful recommendations, and took the time to answer our questions about the menu. We kicked things off with the Texas Twinkies, served with white queso, queso fresco, serrano peppers, and cilantro. They were a flavorful way to begin the meal and set the tone for what was to come. I ordered the Smoked & Grilled Pork Chops with Beef Tallow Fries and Dr. Up Bushes Baked Beans. The pork chops were thick, juicy, and generously portioned. The fries arrived piping hot with an excellent crispy texture, while the baked beans were my favorite side of the meal. The portions were substantial enough that I took one pork chop home for later. My wife chose the Smoked Beef Burnt Ends with signature upgrades of Elote Crème Corn and Sweet Potato Fries. She loved the burnt ends and commented that the only thing that could have made them better was a little more bulgogi glaze. Both upgraded sides were excellent, especially the perfectly cooked sweet potato fries. Bethany went with the Bulgogi Cheesesteak and upgraded to the Truffle Fries, which were loaded with black truffle Parmesan seasoning, truffle aioli, and white queso. The fries were rich and indulgent, and paired well with the generous cheesesteak. Like the rest of us, she ended up taking home leftovers. The portions here are impressive, the menu is refreshingly creative without losing sight of great barbecue fundamentals, and the service elevated the entire experience. If you're visiting, don't skip the Texas Twinkies, and be prepared to leave with a to-go box.
