If not, we should totally make it a word) may cringe at the thought of a four-star review for a chain restaurant such as Olive Garden--and fair enough, I do throw shade at OG like a beach umbrella--but I am a firm believer that a good experience is a good experience and should be noted as such. We were here for a celebratory meal for our friend's son's Confirmation and as we had a larger party, were given the Family Room, which was perfect for us, in terms of size and space. Steven, our server, was awesome; we wanted for nothing the entire meal, whether it was refills on beverages or more of those delicious breadsticks. My Hubby Gerry & I went to this Olive Garden location taking a short road trip from Chicago. On 5-17 we wanted to also celebrate 51 years of marriage. I have to add we also dated for 2 years before getting married. LOL! Now the review. Everything was wonderful here. The waitress Ashley K. is a young lady & she was very upbeat & friendly. She went above & beyond & had such a wonderful personality. We the chicken cream soup with dumplings. Then of course the big bowl of salad with bread sticks. We ordered angel hair pasta with meat sauce. All of the food was so delicious! Ashley was there for us with a diet coke refill & just so sweet! We did tell her it was our Wedding Anniversary & we took home a Chocolate layer cake slice for free for our celebration. We Shared this creation later & it was very delicious & full of different chocolate icing & cake. Dining at this location was a very wonderful time for us. We did tell the manager that Ashley was great & went above & beyond taking care of us. Visited today with my son for his birthday. Very disappointed by the whole experience. Stood at the front for an extended period of time with no one offering to seat us. Then was met with you'll have to sit in the bar. No thanks. This was at an off time and there was no crowds. Hostess was like I'm really busy getting ready for a party of 24. OK but this party of two wants good service as well. Server did her best but brought food out kinda haphazard and it really made the experience less than lovely. Different people kept dropping things off and we seemed like afterthoughts. We were given a birthday dessert which is nice but she dropped it as she was passing by. Our bar drink came with about 25 minutes after the iced tea. Never did get the water we requested. Mozzarella sticks weren't cooked enough. Bread sticks were amazing though. I took my mom to Olive Garden today. She's 87 and not in the greatest health. The breadsticks and the Pumpkin Cheesecake were to die for and the shrimp scampi was great, too. Beyond that, the service was amazing. Our waitress provided the right amount of attention to the needs of our table without hovering. The manager of the store came around twice to make sure our needs were being met. The coup de grâce was that, as we were heading towards the exit, two of the waitresses rushed to grab the doors for us. I tried to tip them both $20, and they wouldn't have it. Writing this in the parking lot after our dinner because Delaney our server was amazing! She was super sweet and kind and attentive. We have been dining at this location for over 2 years now and never had an issue. At dinner today, August 17,2024 7:00pm our service was very bad and disrespectful by our initial waitress Brittney. She became very disrespectful towards my mother from the beginning. When we were ordering, she ignored my mother and laughed at my mother's face for having an accent when speaking English. Ignored her while ordering the drink, and after while ordering her food. We asked the manager for another waitress. Who she introduced a few minutes later (Lorelai- who was fantastic! And with her attitude gave us a better ambiance) until we got the same one coming over with our food, so we had to ask Brittney (original waitress) to not come back to our table as we had asked for someone else. Apparently, her manager had NOT informed her or talked to her about her behavior. Then one server came by whispering - Pathetic- when passing by us and looking at us as if WE did something wrong by asking for a new person. We are not asking for discounts, free food ONLY respect. Olive Garden is an easy goto for a good Italian meal and we have frequented the Mchenry location. I was seated right away and never sat in the bar area before but it wasn't bad. Actually quiet and we got a corner booth. I am not sure what happened from their but our waiter came by and said he will be back in a minute to get us started. From there the wait started and we waited 10 minutes just to get our drink order in. The server seemed new but he was extremely slow the entire visit and missed a few requests while eating on refills and extra plates. Food was good over all. We tried the following: -spaghetti with cheese marinara ( 7 out of 10) -rigatoni spicy marinara (8 out of 10) -asiago Tortellini (8 out 10) Over all good visit just very frustrating with the poor level of service. My family was here W May 19 2021 for my daughters birthday lunch. She picked it herself. When we arrived the gentleman who greeted us and brought us to our table was great. He welcomed us and asked if we were there for an occasion. We said Yes as a matter of fact it's her 17th birthday. He said Happy Birthday to her. THAT was the highlight of our experience that day at the Johnsburg Olive Garden. The server was surly and unhelpful. She insisted the lunch special (unlimited soup, salad and breadsticks) was either soup or salad NOT both. We weren't going to argue; it was a birthday lunch. The shrimp scampi had 3 shrimp and tasted awful. The chicken Alfredo had fake pressed chicken, not real grilled sliced chicken. The server never came back to refill drinks or ask about the food or if we wanted dessert. No recognition of my daughters birthday at all. We waited as long as we could and finally she came when I was paying the bill using their electronic thing. We will seriously never be back. We've been going here for years and it was always fine. My girlfriend and I ate here tonight as I've really only eaten at the Vernon Hills location. Upon pulling up to the restaurant they were packed despite claiming on their website limited seating was available for COVID-19 protection. Upon entering the building there was at least 6 to 7 people waiting by the doors which was our first sign of trouble. The weight was short we were brought to a table that luckily he was away from a few people I found sitting down the cushions that we were sitting on had absolutely no stuffing in it which is kind of gross. At one point we actually found a spider crawling along the wall but it is almost summer time so I chalk that up to bug season. I have always loved the calamari at Olive Garden however it seems as if they've change the recipe and added way too many spices. While the presentation of the food was great I barely touched my chicken Marcella as a chicken it was extremely fatty so I stuck to the salad. If you're interested in bean soup (minestrone/fagioli) I would recommend highly. out of the two soups id be willing to show you a picture of the beans that I personally picked out instead of eating because that's all I tasted and lost my appetite completely. I can forgive bad service if good management makes up for what service lacks. I can even forgive bad management if good service makes up for it. Unfortunately this location suffers from both bad service & bad management. We went here for dinner a few nights ago. We were greeted & told there was a 15 minute wait for a table for 2. Not the worst thing in the world. My fiancé & I both worked in the food industry so we're both very understanding. Once we were seated, we watched as both waitstaff & management walk by us multiple times without anyone acknowledging us. We also noticed there were over a dozen empty tables in the area we were seated so it wasn't "too busy". After 15 minutes we put in a drink order as well as an appetizer via the kiosk on the table. Roughly 20 minutes go by, no server. Managers are seen with a tablet while standing a few feet from our table. They even look at us & when we make eye contact with them they simply walk away. Good managers help their servers by assisting when they see a table doesn't have anything on it. They could've approached us to see if we had been taken care of but instead they chose to ignore us. We saw other table get seated, greeted & served before we had a single person approach our table. 30 minutes after being seated, a server comes up to us & says, "I'll come back after I box their food". So now we can assume that the drinks we ordered were made & sitting at the bar & the appetizer has been sitting in the kitchen window dying. The server who did come by us boxed up another tables food & then proceeded into the kitchen. When he came back out he went back to his other tables & continued to ignore us. So we left. On our way out a manager chased us to the front doors to ask where we were sitting. I told her that it doesn't matter where we were sitting. She could've & should've tried to help us before we decided to leave. She asked if she could offer us a gift card to which we declined. I will however offer some advice to the manager. Before offering to give away company money, try to protect it. Before allowing your customers to reach a level of frustration & disrespect, do better by helping your staff as well as your customers. I placed the pick up order at approximately 6pm on the online ordering link. The order was supposed to be ready at 7:30. I was early so I told the ladies at the hostess stand (who knew that I was picking up that to go order) that I'll wait for the order while sitting at the bar. At 7:50, I was still waiting. So I asked what was taking so long. One of the girls said, well, you were at the bar so we didn't bring it to you. I've never been at a place that held the order, not letting me know that I can leave now and letting food get cold in a bag because of where I sat. Totally unacceptable. I spoke to a manager who kindly said they would issue a refund of some of the cost... which hasn't come across yet. To be frank, I'm sceptical that it will be credited. I've ordered takeout from this location a few times, the soup is always disappointing. I order the chicken gnocchi and there's usually barely any chicken or gnocchi, it's just spinach. Ordered shrimp Alfredo for carry out one time, got home and discovered it was seafood Alfredo. This would normally be a nice free upgrade since it's more expensive and includes scallops, but I'm not a fan so I was disappointed. I called the restaurant and they offered to remake the dish for me if I wanted to come back, I declined so the manager took down my address and sent me a $20 gift card, I was very grateful for that. Last time I went to dine in was disappointing. The soup and bread sticks were delicious, lots of chicken and gnocchi when you go in to eat. Tried to order shrimp Alfredo and they told me they were out of shrimp....at 3:30 in the afternoon, so that was incredibly disappointing. They didn't even try to offer me any kind of compensation for not having what I ordered. Ended up with chicken parmigiana which wasn't that good, was spicier than I remembered and I wasn't able to eat much. The flavored lemonade wasn't that flavorful and the watermelon margarita was very weak and didn't taste like watermelon at all. Deena greeted us right away and was the most pleasant server I have had, ever. She was extremely attentive but also let me and my husband catch up and enjoy a nice dinner out together. Her excellent service was not just directed at us; she was working her section like a well oiled machine. Nowadays it's went the same route as Applebeed and Chilis who used to be good back in the day but now only serve crap food that's frozen, bulk produced, and comes prepared in bags rather than being actually cooked in house.
