Thai Fried Rice with Shrimp, Fried Calamari, and long life soup with extra vegetables
    Kathleen L.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the ladies working here are so nice. I ordered the ginger tea and was blown away. Strong and full of flavor. This is the best ginger tea I have ever had. You can tell this is made fresh and not with a tea bag. My husband and I split the fried calamari it was perfectly cooked, chewy but not rubbery at all! My husband ordered the Thai fried rice with shrimp. He loved the flavor he just wish that they took the tails off the shrimp. He said he would definitely order it again. I had the Long Life Soup with extra Vegetables. I am normally not a fan of clear glass noodles but this soup was so delicious and I really enjoyed eating it! This restaurant is very clean, they play instrumental music and put white paper on the tables. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try if your in the area.

Came by to eat on July 4th and luckily they were open. Per the owner, they're usually not open on this holiday. There's a nice area for parking in front of the restaurant and it's nice they're a bit set back from the busy street. The inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated. There were a few tables already filled and we noticed many take out orders. There were two staff taking orders. Perhaps because we were hungry the food took about 30 minutes to come out despite the restaurant not being too busy. The food however was excellent, great flavor, good portion sizes. They have the best pad thai I've had in this area. The owner came to speak to us and was very friendly, we will definitely be back.

Favorite Thai food around- green pea pod is amazing! Pickup !

I have been to green pea pod many times and is best Thai food in Mchenry county. They are still doing take out only just as a heads up. I ordered the pad Thai tofu as one of my favorite goto solid choices. Careful of they spicy level.... Medium has a very nice kick to it. Go mild if you don't like a kick. All is fresh and excellent. Highly recommending Green Peapod. Consistently excellent every time.

Food is okay, pad thai flavor was lacking. Asked for 3 spicy and it was very mild. Enjoyed spring rolls. Service not good. Understatement.

First of all, this restaurant is a good time. I saw the owner and he has tons of energy, will greet…read moreyou upon arrival, and is always smiling. However, I feel like they've completely branded it the wrong way. This is clearly a tiki bar in the middle of McHenry, Illinois. I would come here solely based on their drinks and appetizers. Classic dishes, such as Pork Chop Suey or Shrimp in Lobster Sauce were not listed on the menu. I think the menu was designed to cater to the McHenry County palate and not necessarily Chicagoland masses. The classic fried boneless chicken pieces tossed in sauce and placed over rice were available. To be specific, General Tszo's chicken and sesame chicken seem to be popular. There are also chicken and steak dishes which I thought were sorta appetizing. I ended up getting the chef's pot stickers, an eggroll, and the Bird of Paradise meal. It's true, the eggroll was pretty delicious. So were the potstickers. My meal seemed to be very carb forward, and the beef was generally tasteless. I took my meal to go after having maybe two bites out of it. Today I took about half of it and reheated it in a large pan with scrambled eggs. I also added the hot mustard and stirred it into the dish so it could spread out. Paired with soy sauce, it really made the dish have so much more flavor. I'm used to eating at restaurants in Chicago that are really challenging my pallet. This place is very safe for people who are generally not adventurous eaters but do want to get an introduction into Chinese food. Again, I can't stress enough that if you're home from college for the summer break, or you are a 30 something working individual looking for somewhere to let off some steam in the middle of McHenry (when it seems like there is nowhere to go) -- come here. It has the best vibes. The Staff and the owner are super friendly and very accommodating. I got everything necessary to package up my food to take home. Although most places operate this way, it was nice to be able to just give my card at the table and have it run through while the waiter was standing right in front of me. Come here to party. This is the perfect venue and the tiki drinks are fire!

My favorite items to get here are the Tom Yum soup, they let you choose the protein and the spice level and have an option for both bowl or a cup. The cup is about a pint size which is a great portion. I love getting the Tofu with this soup because I feel like it soaks in the flavor and breaks up the yummy spices. For the different levels of spice, just a heads up that there is a huge difference for a medium in a cup versus a medium in a bowl. Both are delish, but the cup medium is SPICY in the best way. I also really enjoy their basil fried rice with chicken. You can take the sauteed char from the basil and the medium in this is also spot on for us. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to try a higher heat, because Thai chilis are no joke! All in all, we frequent here often since moving up here and are so glad to have a staple in the area and in our regular rotation.

This is not too far from the mall. Usually Asian restaurants don't really focus on the interior decor unless they are upscale. The good thing about this place was I even liked their decor, which gave a good vibe. Only different thing was the servers didn't wait at the table, you had to order at the counter. And the silverware was more like plasticware.. Food 5 stars Ambiance 5 stars Service was quick
