The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the ladies working here are so nice. I ordered the ginger tea and was blown away. Strong and full of flavor. This is the best ginger tea I have ever had. You can tell this is made fresh and not with a tea bag. My husband and I split the fried calamari it was perfectly cooked, chewy but not rubbery at all! My husband ordered the Thai fried rice with shrimp. He loved the flavor he just wish that they took the tails off the shrimp. He said he would definitely order it again. I had the Long Life Soup with extra Vegetables. I am normally not a fan of clear glass noodles but this soup was so delicious and I really enjoyed eating it! I had placed for a pickup order at 5:44 pm and was told it wouldn't be ready until 7:06 pm. I figured the long queue time was due to a packed restaurant, but when I showed up at 7:16 my order was still not ready. I then waited in the restaurant until I was finally given my order at 7:45, 2 hours after placing! During the extra 30 minutes of waiting there was maybe 5 tables in the restaurant being used. There was no explanation or even an ETA for the order, someone else even came in for their online order, said they were early, and were still somehow served before me. With a pickup time being well over an hour after being placed I would assume two noodle orders and an order of potstickers would be ready. The food tasted good (minus cold potstickers) but the service left a lot to be desired. If you are going to eat here plan ahead because this seems to be an issue they are fine with not resolving based on other reviews dealing with their takeout. read more

This was my go to spot. Now it taste like sugary Chinese food. No spice, grossly over sugared. Easy on Hoisin!!! When the asked about my food, my feedback turned into an argument with the chef. Came by to eat on July 4th and luckily they were open. Per the owner, they're usually not open on this holiday. There's a nice area for parking in front of the restaurant and it's nice they're a bit set back from the busy street. The inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated. There were a few tables already filled and we noticed many take out orders. There were two staff taking orders. Perhaps because we were hungry the food took about 30 minutes to come out despite the restaurant not being too busy. The food however was excellent, great flavor, good portion sizes. They have the best pad thai I've had in this area. The owner came to speak to us and was very friendly, we will definitely be back. read more

Ordered online for delivery only to find they have a limited delivery area. So we switched to pick up. Waited 10 minutes after placing the order to make the 15 minute drive. Just as we arrived there, I received a text saying it will be 110 minutes (basically two hours). We go inside and the restaurant is half full. There is no one else picking up while we're there. We ask if it would be faster if we just sat there and ate and were told "maybe". The young lady at the front desk seemed to not care at all about customer service. I asked to cancel the order and she said she'd have to see if they started it yet (so, it takes 110 minutes to cook it?). She says she'll cancel it, it will take 3-5 days to refund my money and she can't give me any receipt to show it was canceled. To be fair though, I love Thai food and have frequented Thai restaurants in many other major cities. So, for being in McHenry, Il it was very good. I have been to green pea pod many times and is best Thai food in Mchenry county. They are still doing take out only just as a heads up. I ordered the pad Thai tofu as one of my favorite goto solid choices. Careful of they spicy level.... Medium has a very nice kick to it. Go mild if you don't like a kick. All is fresh and excellent. I met a friend a friend here for lunch as we both have strict dietary needs and we were both able to order something from the menu, however, I honestly am not sure what all of the hype on Yelp is about with this place. I wasn't overwhelmed by any of the flavors and was a little bit sickened by the goop they called dressing on the house salad (seriously, what was that stuff?). The teriyaki tofu was way too sweet and I was under impressed by the frozen vegetables that were neatly placed next to the tofu. People saying the bathrooms are clean need to not only have their eyes checked, but the remainder of their senses as well. So if I hated it so much, why am I giving it three stars? 1. The lunch specials are amazing, my entire check was around $8. 2. Perhaps we just picked the worst options on the menu? 3. This might be an amazing pick for McHenry, so who am I to judge?! And 4. Open for take out only right now so I thought I'd get something to take home.we tried the spring rolls, pot stickers and a veggie and tofu thing in a brown sauce; I forget what it was called. Veggies and tofu were delicious and I would definitely order again. The pot stickers were ok but the soy sauce was way to salty, and the spring rolls were good too but had a big chunk of cucumber that could have been chopped to match the size of carrots, and the roll was cut in pieces,and just personal preference but i would rather have them rolled smaller and left in one piece for more ease of eating.
