I weighed and calculated the price I would like to get and the min price I would accept based on reasonable profit margin, FULLY expecting I would have to haggle price. Top price you can expect for gold (unless premium brand gold Tiffany's etc or rare vintage pieces) is 80% of melt value. I inspected each piece with a jewelers loop to find markings. We showed up right around closing time (they close at two) but they had a gent in the room already. I was greeted by the father and told they would take us as soon as they finished up (around 15 minutes,) if we wanted to wait. We were taken in, VERY courteous, polite, friendly and professional. I was impressed the son could recognize most of the pieces without a jewelers loop and those few he couldn't he put through a spectrometer and got confirmation instantly. The whole process took approximately 15 minutes... and we had a lot of pieces. In the end their offer was EXACTLY (within a few dollars) of the top price I expected to get. Paid cash on the spot. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that if you want a very positive experience... especially if you are not educated on value, to see this father and son team. I would not hesitate to trust their assessment of gold value now even if I didn't know a thing about it. If I could give a 10 star rating out of 5 I would.
