I had some amazing meals in the restaurant that used to occupy this space, but am so glad we now have Oliver's! A drink or two with a friend plus some snacks, but just a preview for my next visit. Service is outstanding. Attentive, thoughtful, anticipatory, but not intrusive. The wine list was excellent and reminded me of living back in the West Coast where something other than mega brands were featured. We also enjoyed a spectacularly balanced cocktail (sweet seems to be the Chicago way too often). The fluke tartare hits exactly the right note and at first I wondered why it was served without crackers, but after one bite I knew it didn't need them. Equally salty crispy and reminiscent of McDonalds on their best day (this is a compliment, I assure you) - the fries were crave worthy. I'd happily eat them daily. What a gem! Came here on opening night! I was able to grab a spot at the bar as I was dining alone. Because of the close proximity, I started chatting with someone else who was also dining solo and had been a customer and subscriber of Entree. Since it's new, the menu is quite slim, and as a pescatarian, there were very few options I could indulge in. I ended up getting the truffle gnocchi as my main dish. This is definitely a tasty dish, rich in flavor, and very filling. I had to pace myself to make room for the dessert I really wanted to try. Next time I visit, I definitely want to try the salad. The crème caramel pie was absolutely the best pie I have ever tasted. I'm having flashbacks just thinking about its deliciousness. Walked in without reservation on a Tuesday evening and opted for seats at the bar just needing a simple meal. Had the cheeseburger (medium), fries and dipping sauce, which perfectly fit the bill. Truffle gnocchi , smoked pumpkin risotto,roasted mushrooms , Roasted Koglnut squash with carmelized onions, half roasted chicken-although pricey delicious, diver scallops- small serving and octopus. I really regret not getting any photos here to share, but please go check out Oliver's for yourself and taste the amazing food. First of all, as a local south loop-er, I love that we now have this gem in our neighborhood. Oliver's is beautiful inside, once you're inside, you almost forget where you are. The decor is very minimal but very well done. You'll feel comfortable dining here and will enjoy the atmosphere. Next, the drink offerings are great. They have very carefully curated cocktails that are incredible, but can make anything you want to order as well. The drink offerings include all types of spirits, so you will likely find something that calls you on the menu. I personally had the Oliver's Spritz #2 and it was very refreshing. For the food, I recommend you order a bit of everything. The staff were very knowledgeable and willing to give recommendations. The portion sizes are surprisingly bigger than we would've imagined. We got the toast royale, which was magnificent. Fresh bread and a rich shallot butter...how could you go wrong with that? Be careful with the bread though, you can't get too full for the other exceptional dishes on the menu. Another starter you must have is the truffle gnocchi. I've heard gnocchi described as pillowy at all the best places. You're definitely going to get that here and it pairs incredibly well with the toast. The gnocchi itself is soft and pillowy, and melts in your mouth with each bite. It was a standout, I could've had a big bowl of gnocchi and been satisfied. You have to get this! For our mains, we weren't as hungry as we usually are, so we just did the miller's half chicken, which is great to share between two people. We also did the truffle potatoes and the chilled haricot vert. The chicken was well prepared, but the standout of the dish is the sauce. It had a lot of flavor and elevated the entire dish. The haricot vert were a nice chilled option, and the truffle potatoes were a perfect balance for all of our other dishes. For dessert, we got the coconut key lime pie. Sometimes key lime pie can be too bitter for some people, but this coconut pistachio blend makes it the perfect dessert for everyone. The crust is unlike any crust we've tried before. It's really hard to think that we'll be replacing that dessert choice on our next visit, but we are eager to try all of them! Last, I have to compliment the exceptional staff. Our server was exceptionally warm and attentive, providing thoughtful recommendations throughout or experience and checking in on us regularly. But, the service here expands beyond the amazing servers. The hosts, the bartenders, the back kitchen staff and runners were all outstanding. We can't wait for our next visit, we have so many other menu items we look forward to trying! read more

Oliver's in the south loop is a gem. I ate at Oliver's this weekend. It's on Wabash in the south loop. It was delicious. Every dish was a hit. They are still finishing up the restaurant, but we didn't care. They nailed all their dishes. Their gnocchi was pillowy and amazing. Their bread grilled in beef fat was spectacular. Their chicken was moist and juicy. The key lime pie was one of the best I've ever had. They have a really top notch chef and same with their mixologist (he was at Scofflaw). We spent time talking to the owner as well. Such a nice person. He exited a couple software companies and decided he wanted a passion project. Well, you can sense his passion throughout the entire place. I can't wait to go back. At the end we asked for an espresso martini to split amongst the four of us as we wanted to taste it. Instead of bringing us one cocktail he had it split into four cute tiny glasses. We didn't ask for that. They really nailed everything. It's a little on the pricey side, but it doesn't feel any more expensive than most good restaurants these days. Very, very happy the have come into the neighborhood. Jason and Luke are the owners ( I've met at least) and both have a real passion for the restaurant and are really good people. When that translates into attention to customers and details, and some seriously good food and cocktails it's a combination that really works. It also shows in their staff. Amazing new spot and perfect for a great night. Good music, cool staff, happening bar / front area, classy dining room with great service. We ordered a crazy variety of drinks - of note, had a randomly good NA rose drink and the martini is very classy served in a sidecar on ice with a toothpick topping array. We ordered the oysters, tiger prawn, burger, cucumber salad, and key lime pie. I think you can dress this place up or down in a perfect way. We were in Chicago for restaurant week. We ate at four different places. some with Michelin stars. Hands down the best meal we had was at Oliver's. The service was unparalleled. My friends invited me to celebrate my bday... the soft opening occurred a couple of weeks ago so the menu is limited and seating even more scarce. We were seated at the bar but we really wanted the only 4 seater in the restaurant. We were finally moved to the table after an hour. And the milk and cookies were one of my favorite desserts I've ever had in Chicago. I would come back to Oliver's just for that dish alone. Stumbled on this hidden neighborhood gem while looking for something new. Not many restaurants around here, so I was excited to find a good sit-down spot close to home. The service was incredible--we were greeted by what seemed like three people right away, and it felt like the servers were always around when we needed something. That really stood out. The ambiance reminded me of restaurants I've visited in Phoenix and Austin. Not too large, but expertly doing what they do. Service was the best! I really liked it because of the smoked trout roe and caviar giving it some saltiness with the chips and coated with the creamy creme fraiche. It's only available from 5-6pm Tuesday-friday. The truffle gnocchi were unbelievable, to-die for, they didn't overdo it on the truffles, and the Comte cheese had some funk to it, this pasta is a must order. We had their Oliver's cheeseburger with hook's 5 year cheddar, white onions, Oliver's sauce, and French fries. The burger is thick yet soft, however I wish there was more of a wow factor with it, but it's still a solid burger. The golden fries were good, but also wish they loaded it up with more cheese and sauce. The fried artichoke was crispy, really nice zesty flavor of the preserved lemon. For dessert, probably the best milk and cookies out there. These chocolate chip cookies were so warm, gooey, and soft paired with the milk that tasted like vanilla bean ice cream. I had dinner here tonight at the bar with my boyfriend and the restaurant (food, ambiance and service) exceeded my expectations. This restaurant is a great addition to the foodie scene in Chicago. The gnocchi and burger were stand-outs and the tomato risotto was delicious. My boyfriend got an old fashioned and said it was one of the best he's had in the city (and he's had a lot). What an ambiance this place gives! It's nicely hidden in the South Loop and it gives a retro with a modern twist vibe. The food and drinks were delightful. I appreciated the ample space in between tables and the green velour feel furniture.
