Burger

Do you remember, as a child, smelling those mcdonalds french fries? Salivating at the shoe strings salted to perfection awaiting a crispy bite only to be disappointed by the luke warm, overly salted, soggy fry that had been under a heat lamp for hours. That sucked. But, remember the romance. Remember what you thought was going to be the perfect bite into the perfect fry. At Oliver's that is bite after bite after bite of french fry. These french fries are everything Mcdonald's wants their fries to be. This place is sexy, suave, and unabashedly exceeding any and all hype it has garnered. The burger? Nonnegotiable. Oh, and the price with fries with quite reasonable given where burger prices are in modern times. Everything about this meal was incredible. Superb service with attentiveness, authenticity, and passion. Oysters were lovely, truffle gnocchi was pillowy, funky, and creamy. Bursting with flavor. A ramos gin fizz on the menu? They're crazy, but it is so good. Plus, a damn good house martini. I know not who Oliver is, but my meal at his restaurant is one I will savor all the way to the grave. Salud!

What a hidden jewel this place is! A simple, no fuss layout. Very comfortable and inviting. The service is phenomenal. The staff is knowledgeable and the food extraordinary! Highly recommend supporting this local gem!

The host was super friendly and so was our server's assistant was super friendly. The decor inside was cute and unique. The reason I only gave it 3 star is because everything we had was just warm. Or it was closer to the cooler side. I went for my friend's birthday, and it was really nice of them to give her a birthday card with the crew signing it. We also got free cookies for her birthday dessert which were cold and hard. Unfortunately, I do not like eating my chicken cold :(

Raspberry Martini

Service was great!? The waiters are knowledgeable and friendly. The raspberry martini was delicious and the popcorn snack is just ok. The serving is far too small for the price. Oliver's lounging area is small yet roomy enough for a nice group. The dining area is on the rear of the building. I plan to return.

Let me start by saying the food and drink portion was incredible. We had the truffle gnocchi, the chicken, the crudo, and the Oliver's martini and a French 75. Truly 20/10 for everything. Sadly this was overshadowed by the terrible service. After being sat, I waited over 10 minutes to be greeted by a server, then another 20 to get a cocktail, then maybe 10 to order food. Then a good 20 to get the check at the end. The server was nowhere to be seen and we spent a good amount of the evening looking around trying to find someone to pay attention to us. It really affected the experience, and in spite of the incredible food, it makes me reluctant to go back.

Oliver's was delicious!!! This place deserves more recognition but I know its gaining alot of attention. I first heard about this place on Instagram. The vibes inside is inspired by 1930s LA Supper Club. Charming and retro. The front of the restaurant has the bar with some tables but when you walk to back, it reveals a much bigger dining area. This meal was very comforting and homey. The menu is not that big. Sharing is highly recommended. For 2 people, we shared 3 apps, 2 main entrees, and 1 dessert and that was plenty of food. I wanted a drink that was supposedly on their summer menu but they had just switched to their fall menu. The bartender was nice enough to still make it for me which I appreciated! My friend got the espresso martini which has a hint of blueberry which is a nice touch. The dishes that stood out to me the most were the oysters, the farm salad, the half chicken and the milk & cookies! I kept seeing fried chicken & caviar but they only serve that on Wednesdays (sad lol). S/o to the best milk & cookies I ever had!!! The milk is infused with vanilla and literally tasted like melted vanilla ice cream. Cons: The food here is pricey!! Also service was slow - My party was only 2 people and we were there almost 3 hours....

First off, the vibe of the restaurant was everything. I love the decor. The staff and service were amazing. Everyone was attentive and friendly. I really enjoyed the lemonfish crudo and the bread we tried. Also yummy gnocchi. Tastes wayyyyy better than it looked. The octopus was good as well. Not the best I've had, but very good. My favorite thing was the rainbow sherbet. My friends were having milk and cookies (I didn't care for any) and our lovely server didn't want me to be left out. So she sent over this sherbet. Actual tears of joy as I ate this yummy treat

Lovvvvve Oliver's! Love that's it's in the South Loop neighborhood, my fiancé and I walk over at least weekly, lol. The ambiance, the service and the food, all A+ We have never been disappointed and I've dine with a group of ladies, celebrating birthdays and with my man, for date night. The golden hour aka happy hour is a fantastic menu! The burger is one of the best! The scallops, so tasty and savory! The cocktails, omg, the cocktails are amazing! Just Go!

This place is great. The cocktails and very good, the service was amazing, and the food was delicious. My only knock is the size of the burger for the price. But don't let that deter you, it's still work the visit.

Finally finally finally got a chance to take my three Michelin-star wife to Oliver's in the South Loop. This is the type of spot this neighborhood needs. The old 1930s Hollywood vibe is really cool and unique. I can't think of another restaurant like that in Chicago. The service was impeccable. Healthy wine and cocktail list. Food was fantastic. This is not the place to go for a date on a budget, but you're definitely getting quality for your money. We got the Toast Royale as a starter, which was awesome awesome awesomeness. My wife and I both got the burger, as we had been told it was top tier. We were not led astray, it was fantastic. Highly recommend this place, glad its in our neighborhood.

I'm so for a 1930s Los Angeles themed restaurant, especially when it is in Chicago. We went here on our first night of our trip, and sat at the bar. We were super excited about this place after reading about the theme and the chef. The knockout item that we tried was the fresh pea risotto. It was creamy and flavorful, and had the right amount of fresh pea flavor. It was so good that I wanted to lick the bowl clean. The country toast with duck fat was just okay. I mean it tasted delicious, but there was not a "wow" factor about it. Same with the salad, the best part is that it contained delicious toasted chickpeas. Drinks were delicious, and we had a phony negroni (non-alcoholic) and a peach gin fizz - which was another amazing and unique item. The service was the only thing that can use improvement. At least at the bar where it was noisy, and felt that the bartenders were struggling to pay attention to take our order and make drinks. Totally understandable since it was a busy night. I would recommend coming here and sitting in their gorgeous dining room instead of at the bar.

Scallop crudo (Sunday special)
Emily H.

Great time at Oliver's! Service was excellent - recommendations much appreciated. Loved the Sunday specials of scallop crudo and steak frites. The Ramos gin fizz was something to write home about (on the postcard that comes with your check, adorable touch). The dark chocolate budino was a great way to finish the meal alongside an herbal tea. Can't wait to try more of their regular menu on the next visit!

The service was truly excellent. Everyone was kind, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. It felt like they genuinely cared that we had a great experience. We ordered the cucumber salad, the half chicken crudo, and the toast royale. Each dish was so thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious. The cucumber salad was light and refreshing. The crudo was tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The toast royale was rich, comforting, and honestly unforgettable. The atmosphere is stylish and inviting with a vintage charm that makes the whole evening feel special. It's the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy amazing food, and feel totally taken care of. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu. This place is such a gem.

The pastries are actually being shipped in from elsewhere (they have exactly the same one in coffee shops out in Naperville too lol). Which leaves nothing special here. It's also very small so it gets crowded and swamped pretty fast. You're really constantly stepping out of someone's way when you're just waiting for you order, so that's not ideal either. I had been enjoying the city after a day of shopping and dinner at Joe's. A friend recommended this lovely bar/lounge. We are not from these parts of the U.S. and love to explore. This lounge is on the second floor of the Chicago Athletic Association building. Part of the Hyatt chain. I was warmly greeted by host and placed next to an old fireplace in front of the bar area. I was seated facing the entire lobby. I was enjoying the Gothic architecture. It was dark and a soothing atmosphere. I appreciated the appropriate music playing as well. It was a perfect way to end my day. I had a glass of champagne and my server recommended the Basque cheesecake. Which was perfect cause I recently visited San Sebastian, Spain. The Basque region makes a great cheesecake. The burned caramelized top complimented my champagne well. There is a room/bar in the back room of where I was. A great bar with games and TVs for sports. After enjoying my nightcap, I walked downstairs and was able to order a ride-share and wait in the warm entry of the building. The Drawing Room is in the lobby of the hotel. The first day at the hotel, my friend and I had a breakfast reservation (which we're thankful we did, as it was quite busy) and we sat at a table where the chairs were comfortable but it was too low to comfortably eat at the table. I felt like I was almost stretching and standing when eating. We requested a different type of table the next day when we can back for breakfast. We both ordered the Classic Breakfast consisting of two eggs, Nueske's bacon, breakfast sausage, breakfast potatoes, and sourdough toast. There were options available for gluten free toast and egg white though we didn't opt for that. I did ask for all bacon. The next day, I ordered a Breakfast Sandwich, regularly including chicken breakfast sausage, fluffy eggs, American cheese, house-made english muffin, and green salad (with gluten free toast option). I chose bacon instead of sausage and cheddar instead of American cheese. Both breakfasts were rather good. Unfortunately the dinner wasn't as delightful as a meal as the breakfasts. The chairs were fine and the place wasn't too busy (and we had a reservation) though when we sat down, it was as if we were forgotten as no one came to our table for quite some time. We then realized we weren't too excited about the menu, so we instead when to the nearby Game Room for a bite while watching a basketball game on TV. We were given welcome beverage certificates good for free bubbly at the Game Room though those were also honored at the Game Room. The Drawing Room lobby spaces are open 24 hours daily though guests can order breakfast daily from 7 AM to 11 AM, Monday through Thursday for lunch and dinner from 11 AM to 11 PM, Friday and Saturday from 11 AM to 12 Midnight (though the kitchen closes at 11 PM), and Sunday from 11 AM to 9 PM. You can visit the Drawing Room website at https://www.drawingroomchicago.com, where you can find menus, private event information, reservations, social media links, and more. You can also sign up for restaurant updates at the bottom of the page. While I wouldn't discourage anyone to go to the Drawing Room, it wasn't among our favorite restaurants at the Chicago Athletic Association or nearby the hotel.

I'll begin by mentioning the drinks tasted great & the ambiance/overall esthetic and setup of this space is really wonderful. Unfortunately, my low review is because of the obvious distastefulness of some staff who are serving & bartending here. My guests visiting from out of state wanted a stiff drink in the afternoon & from the website photos + reviews, Vol 39 seemed like an awesome place that could accommodate our party with the large sofa seating. I even called ahead to ask about walk-ins of our size to be extra considerate. We received shocking dagger glares from a few staff members which made all eight of us immediately uncomfortable before even being sat. Like we were committing a major crime for thinking we could step foot in here. Empty stack of glasses slammed on the table with a water pitcher placed beside them; "I'll be right back." In a sharp tone. Ok. But not if we're paying $20 per person per cocktail. We were rushed and this attitude persisted, it is lazy.. especially given it was extremely slow.. super surprising for such an elevated establishment. Then, after a long while, we were all asked what we wanted to drink, like a fast casual burger joint. No, "any questions about our selections" or, "may I give some suggestions?" Never came by to check on us once despite the three other two tops inside. We wrapped it up fast since we definitely could choose another location with more attentiveness & basic kindness. We paid, a hefty gratuity in small print on the check which.. you guessed it.. was automatically included but no mention of this tidbit by the server. Maybe this is why we revived all this mean girl energy from the jump? Because they'll still get paid really well regardless? All eight of us have been a part of the service industry and this one stuck out extra frustrating & annoying. Never leave a low review, I'm writing today to management because they will ruin your repeat clientele, seriously. People can find another fabulous cocktail with way better service & vibes in the city. Overall, it was a shame my friends experienced this gross behavior today in the fabulous city of Chicago. Hope the staff does better in the future and works on improving their outlook.
