This is a great little bar. The drinks somehow all had glitter--which I love--but didn't seem to match the vibe. My husband and I stopped in for a quick dinner and Half Sour fit the bill. This is my favorite restaurant in Printer's Row! I have been here several times and everything is amazing. I bring friends and family here and everyone loves it. Lunch, dinner, cocktails, brunch...you name it, they do it, and they do it well. Everything is made from scratch and top quality. They do everything so well. They have homemade donuts on weekends and flavors change. They make their own bagels too and they are the best. Everything is made in house, including their meats. The corned beef is so good and I love their Rueben. The cocktails are fantastic! I love the Me espresso so much. It's an espresso martini but creamier and better and prettier. They also have wonderful THC and CBD drinks that a taste great. They have delicious lemonades, mocktails, and coffees too. I love their hero cold brew with simple syrup. The food is phenomenal. I have tried so many things and I plan on trying the entire menu. I have thoroughly enjoyed the latkes, black bean burger, steak, French fries, Caesar salad, breakfast bagel sandwich, and more. I love their homemade ranch dressing. The chilaquiles are my favorite brunch item and I top it with steak and it's so tender. The nachos are so delicious and their homemade nacho cheese is stellar. Came here after an architectural boat tour because it was walking distance and had a meal with a large party. Our server was so pleasant and they answered all my questions, gave suggestions and overall had a glowing personality. I will say, I am an AVID pickle lover. I don't normally like half sours but these were so good!! A friend offered the table part of hers and I had to get my own. We shared the steak and frites; the steak and chimichurri lacked flavor and the fries were nothing to call home about. Delish THC drinks were available which I am always surprised to see (country gal) but it is a great option for someone who doesn't want to drink but wants to feel the vibe. Some people in my group had allergies and were vegetarian and they didnt find anything they could eat as a meal, so I felt bad for that. Can't please everyone and they had a lot of food restrictions, so not sure I can place blame on the restaurant for that. Great place! Stopped in for dinner the other night and happy we did. The place has a great neighborhood bar vibe with lots of indoor and outdoor seating as well as at the bar. I ordered a spicy margarita and the bartender did a great job. For entrees I had the fried xxx sandwich. Huge portion, not overly spicy, very saucy and the fries are perfectly seasoned and delicious. My husband had the other chicken sandwich grilled, and it was a smaller portion but still very good- he loved the sauce on it. We had great service and the prices were fair. 4.5 Stars - Half Sour, 755 S Clark St, Chicago, IL I was looking for a laid-back brunch spot in the South Loop, and Half Sour fit the bill perfectly. My sister, her friend, and I went on a Sunday afternoon. Despite being downtown, I found parking fairly easily on Clark--around $7 for paved parking, which isn't too bad for the area. The interior has a casual, slightly divey feel--somewhere between polished and relaxed. No need to dress up; streetwear is just fine. Even the staff sported laid-back outfits with ripped jeans. The vibe was welcoming and unpretentious, with TVs showing various sports (captions included). We arrived around 2 p.m., so only the brunch menu was available--which worked out since I was craving breakfast food. Our server was sweet and helpful, quickly correcting a few small oversights. It was a slower time of day, so we had attentive service. I ordered the French toast, eggs, and breakfast potatoes. The French toast was especially memorable--soft like bread pudding, topped with strawberries, and served warm. I'll definitely return for that! Everything was seasoned exceptionally well--kudos to the kitchen. My sister had a waffle she thought was just okay, but her friend enjoyed the strawberry shortcake. We also tried both the hash browns and breakfast potatoes. While the potatoes were tasty, they included a few French fries, which felt a little out of place. The hash browns, however, were perfectly cooked and seasoned--they're what I'd recommend. As someone trying to cut back on caffeine, I appreciated the option of decaf coffee, served with cream and honey on the side. Overall, I'd give Half Sour a strong 4.5 out of 5. I'm curious to try their evening menu next time--if the flavor and seasoning carry over, it could be a five-star experience. I really like the menu options at this place. It's comfort deli food with some flare to it as well. The cheese curds were very good which I didn't expect them to stand out so much from other cheese curds but they did! The latkes were also great. We ordered them with the smoked salmon dip, but the dip seemed more of a tuna salad type than what I thought the smoked salmon would be. I also ordered the reuben which I did enjoy, but it was extremely peppery. The service was great, we were checked on at a good rate even though we were only one of few tables outside. read more

The bread and burger as a whole holds well/doesn't crumble apart. The ingredients work well together as a flavor combination. So flavorful and juicy. The beef just needs to be seasoned! Our first visit to Half Sour was actually back in July, we got into Chicago very late on a Thursday night and hadn't had dinner yet, and were looking for someplace open late within walking distance of our hotel. We loved the laid-back vibe, and the menu featured good vegetarian options in addition the standard burgers and chicken. I got the cauliflower entree, which came with romesco, chimichurri, tahini, and dukkah, and was both delicious and filling. We were back in Chicago again last week, and decided to return to Half Sour. This time I enjoyed the daily special - a lemon caper pasta with lots of great veggies. The portion size was just right -- enough for dinner but not too heavy or too much to finish. Our server was attentive, gave us time to read the menu and was back to take our order as soon as we had decided on our orders, and returning regularly to refill drinks. We agreed that after two great experiences here, we're definitely adding Half Sour to our "must visit" list for future trips to Chicago. read more

We stumbled upon this place while out exploring and given it was time for lunch we thought we would check it out. I loved the interior feel which was a mix of a bar with a high end coffee shop/brunch spot. It was long and narrow with dark paneling but had tons of light so it didn't feel dark, more intimate and cozy. You can sit anywhere so we found a table near the kitchen to view the street and people watch, and hitch is an added bonus of this location as it is on the way to a local park. The waitress was prompt and friendly even in the midst of their rush. I ordered their house made ginger lemonade and it came almost immediately. It was delicious and a huge favorite. I would highly recommend it! A thirst quencher for sure. The menu was brunch at the time but you could also order lunch. We opted for rosemary hash and latkes, as those are things we don't make at home ourselves. Very fresh tasting despite being fried. I was very surprised by how light and airy they tasted d, and how the spicy honey pushed the latkes to even more flavor. The hash was plentiful and had perfectly cooked eggs on top (runny just as expected). Very delicious food! We would return and maybe try other options, but did love what we tried. Holy moly stopping here on a whim was such a great decision. I was literally standing at the intersection of Polk and Clark debating which of the surrounding restaurants I should go to. Not sure what drew me to this one (probably the cool font/logo) but I'm so glad I came here. The menu gave me a lot of decision fatigue, but I ultimately decided on the chicken sandwich and fries. DELICIOUS. The chicken was perfectly fried and juicy and the fries were crispy and hot. I savored every bite. It was one of those meals that you don't want to end. My server was so nice and so was the bartender who first greeted me when I came in. The credit card system wasn't working, but they made it easy to pay. I had my lunch next to the window, watching people and relishing in the sun and fresh air. This was definitely one of my top meals on my visit to Chicago. read more

On our visit to Chicago, our bartender recommended we try Half Sour! As a chicken sandwich stan and newbie to pickles, this was a dream come true. We were able to seat ourselves at a hightop near the bar and although it was extremely crowded, we were served relatively quickly. To drink, we had waters, a "spicy" margarita, and an old fashioned. I say "spicy" because I'm pretty sure a jalapeño was just in the room when they made it. HOWEVER. The half sours (not pictured bc we demolished them) were so flavorful, a good amount of spice, and delightfully crisp. The Triple XXX was the star of the show, though. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and juicy. I wasn't able to finish mine, so come by when you're hungry!! read more

I tried their latkes with smoked salmon dip. I really liked this dish because it had two of my favorite things and both worked well together. They also have their own bagels that they make fresh every day, I will absolutely be back for those. Cheese curds were spongy and I like how they give a hot sauce and buttermilk ranch in true midwestern fashion. I obviously got the burger, it has sharp American cheese, diced onions, roasted garlic aioli, and house dill pickles. This really reminded of an Au Cheval burger without bacon, and I really liked it. We were lucky to find seats at the bar, and the bartender even let us sample some of the drafts before making our purchase. The ambiance was lively, with TVs showing the latest sports and music playing throughout the restaurant. I'll definitely visit again, and my friend enjoyed her food as well. Decided to pop in for some late night food on a Monday night. Had put this place on a to go list years ago and never got around to going. So why not now? Walking in, super chill atmosphere - that of your standard downtown bar. The staff greeted my boyfriend and I upon entering. We ordered the bowl of tomato soup, order of their wings (dry rub per the request of the waiter since that's my fave), smoked salmon salad and a grilled chicken club dipped in Buffalo sauce. Our server was an attentive male who knew exactly what recommendations to provide to elevate our meal. The food arrived fairly quick and hot. The smoked salmon salad - highly disappointing because I was under the impression that it would be your raw smoked salmon. Give the salad that salty fresh taste. Being that it wasn't the salad fell flat and soggy to me. The tomato soup - your ol' regular degular can of Campbells soup with croutons on top. Nothing exciting at all. wings - now this is a wing. The slight crunch of the skin and the flavor was on point! The grilled chicken sandwich - standard. Nothing about it stood out. I like a messy over the top condiment sandwich. He didn't and because it was too messy for him he slightly ruined his mood but since he was starving he devoured it. Would we return? Yes but for brunch or a drink if we happen to be in the area. Good name for this place, because you're feeling half sour after going here. Half Sour is one of the bars in South Loop. It's also open at breakfast, so it's a good time to come whenever. A lot to choose from. The mornings aren't as much fun as the nights but you get better service. Came here last time at night. It was a pretty happening place. There was still plenty of room though. Among the interesting drinks we found was the Borrachita. It's about $13 for a cocktail. This one was made with Mezcal and had jalapeño, lime, and triple sec. Good bite. Kind of salty. As for the food, we each got the Buddha Bowl. It's about $16, which is a lot. This is the only good item here that's vegan. Has a lot in it. There was apples, cucumbers, farro, pickled onions, quinoa, spinach, and Thai peanut sauce. It was filling. This was a good meal. Best time is to come later. It has breakfast but not as good of drinks in the morning. The food is much better than at a typical bar and you can find both greasy and healthier kinds of things. read more

Quality little restaurant/bar located near Printer's Row. It's got good food at non expensive prices. I did the BALT sandwich with fries, quite tasty. And then they have a pretty good craft beer list, on top of the other usual drinks. I know they have trivia events sometimes that my friends have done. It's got a nice cozy feel, probably one of my preferred spots in the area. I'm sure I'll be back again, either to eat or just grab a drink. read more
