No pickle lettuce tomato or mushrooms for burger...just cheese and a type of mayo and raw onions. Nothing special. Cucumber salad was ok. Nothing special. The service was great, very friendly and attentive. The food and cocktails were overpriced for the quality. The cocktails especially, were overpriced. I had a gin fizz that was priced at $24 and did not impress me at all. My husband and I had the gnocchi, burger, fries and fried artichoke. The gnocchi was excellent and they should keep it on the menu. The burger and fried artichoke were both pretty greasy and not great. The fries were standard shoestring fries. I was interested in the 1930s Los Angeles vibe they described but I found the decor to lack warmth overall and I didn't see anything that evoked that theme other than one pink credenza that looked vintage-y and a few small framed photos and posters on the wall. There are purse hooks under the concrete bar, which is always appreciated. Maybe I'd come back in a few months to see how they evolve but I'm in no hurry. read more

Wow! I enjoyed a fantastic meal at Oliver's last evening. I have driven by their unassuming location on South Wabash many times in the past, but boy am I glad I stopped in this time. I was greeted very warmly at the door and seated immediately at a comfortable table in the large dining room. My server Annina G. was very personable and helpful in guiding me through the menu. I started with the cucumber salad, and went with the porcini risotto for my entrée. It was one of the freshest and most flavorful meals I have eaten in my 38 years living in Chicago. Where do I start? I specifically booked this for a birthday celebration (specified on the Tock reservation). When we arrived at the restaurant, there was no one at the reception desk. A guy appeared and I communicated that we had a reservation and he walked away. He did re-appear and we were shown to a table (the only available table in the restaurant). FYI - almost all seats are at the bar. If you were expecting a restaurant or even any semblance of the previous restaurant, Acadia, you maybe disappointed. This seems more like a pop-up bar with a few tables in the front. The back dining room is not utilized. In fact it is full of trash, which is very obvious if you visit the restroom (where there are no mirror's whatsoever - which seems a little strange). TLDR: For people who don't read longer reviews :) Service: Ok Liquor: Over priced / smaller portions Appetizers: Fine (we tried 2 out of 5 appetizers) Entrees: Fine (we tried 2 out of 3 entrees) Deserts: We did not go there Overall: Maybe wait for the expanded menu or the rear portion of the restaurant to open. We spend ~$1000 a month dining out downtown - mostly in the South Loop. We would prefer more than three entrees to entice us to return on a regular basis. Longer review: Getting back to dinner, we ordered drinks after a short wait. I did ask for the types of gin available (it is not printed on the menu), but our host did not know. After a few minutes, we were informed of one gin that was the best for gin and tonic, which I acquiesced to and ordered. My husband ordered a rose wine. To be clear, you would never get drunk on the meager serving size that was provided for either the gin and tonic ($16 + 20% compulsory service) or rose wine ($17 + 20%). I suspect the wine serving was around 6oz. However, we did order a bottle of the wine as it was pretty good. Afterwards I checked on Vivino and the $68 bottle (+ 20% = a total of $81.60) was being sold for $26 locally :( We ordered the Fluke tartare and toast royale. Fluke tartare tasted mostly of citrus, some fish and was almost potato like. Definitely not worth ($24 + 20% = $28.80). My husband ordered the toast royale ($16 + 20% = $19.20). This was just like french sourdough toast cooked in beef fat. Very rich and we only consumed 1 out of 3 slices. Both were definitely not worth the money ($48 for two appetizers!). Our mains consisted of a cheeseburger and a half chicken (you already know this is going to be expensive - burger = $32 and half chicken = $54!) How tf does it cost $86 for a burger and half a chicken? We did also order a side of haricot vert ($15.60), which turned out to be cold and smothered in a mayonnaise type dressing. We did not touch them. They were taken away and removed from our final bill. Obviously, Olivers is not currently trying to appeal to local residents who plan to dine here on a regular basis. There are other restaurants in the South Loop who provide equally good food, ambiance, service and appreciate regular diners. read more

A group of 7 of us dined here last week for my husband's birthday. The entire experience was amazing! You do have to call the restaurant and book reservations for more than 6 people and put a credit card down. The person I spoke with was very accommodating and kind. From the minute we walked in, we felt like family. The entire staff was so friendly and welcoming. Our server, Angie, was a perfect balance of attentive and not too present. We were not rushed in any way even though a few guests were late for our reservation. The drinks were delicious. We had the french-ish martinis and dirty martinis. Angie even brought us out an after dinner shot, which was a great way to finish the night. The food was incredible! A few people had the burger and fries, which was juicy and flavorful. We also had the roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, scallops, risotto, and gnocchi. EVERYONE cleaned their plates! After only being open for 2-3 weeks from what I saw as an outsider it looked like the restaurant had already proven successful. We each ordered a different item but got to taste other items on the menu courtesy of the chef. Every single item was incredibly delicious but I would have to say thus far, oysters were the best I've had. But if you're not an oysters are not your jam, no problem. There is plenty of other items you can opt for. The menu was small but I think that's appreciated as to not overwhelm people. The ambiance was really nice with the concrete bar countertop touches and the Persian rugs at the seating table. There's an al fresco area as well to enjoy that Chicago summer weather. My friends and I had the pleasure of dining at Oliver's on Saturday evening. Being foodies with fomo, we decided to just order the entire menu and I'm SO GLAD that we did. I can't think of a single dish I would have eliminated. Everything was superbly executed - some of the most memorable dishes were the truffle potatoes (done in the style of Joel Robuchon so you could basically drink them with a straw), the haricot verts (perfectly crispy and the flavors together were incredible), truffle gnocchi (perfect little fluffy pillows) and the toast royale (we ended up taking home some of the toast nubs and butter so our friend could experience this insanity). All the mains were amazing, as were the desserts (I could eat the pie crusts just on their own), but by that time, I really felt like I ordered the entire menu. Service was impeccable - everyone was SO friendly and knowledgeable. The cocktails were delicious, and the wines were so well-curated. The Oliver martini was the best I have ever had and the Expresso Martini at the end of the service was a great dessert for me. My wife had the Negroni, wow a great version they have created! We had the Vertical Acres Farm Salad which looked beautiful and tasted great. Our bartender, she was great! I asked her what wine would pair well with the food we ordered and she recommended the Stolpman Vinyard Uni White. Excellent! She recommended the Truffle gnocchi and it was perfectly cooked! We shared the Millers Half of Chicken. Perfectly cooked! There was a gentleman who is part of the team and he explained to us how Chicken is cooked in a special oven to keep the meat moist. This place is amazing! We ordered the half chicken and the mashed potatoes. They were both amazing. The chicken melted in your mouth and the potatoes were creamy and flavorful. I almost wish they hadn't been so good because I couldn't stop eating them so I didn't have room for the caramel cream pie. But I'll be back to try that soon.
