The servers are fast and friendly, the food is standard fare. I had the Bistec Ranchero for breakfast. It was ok. Three stars - however - Oh lord, the white corn tamale! I ordered one as a side and I could smell it well before it landed before me and it tasted as good as it smelled. With the chili sauce it tasted a lot like sambal, with the sweetness of the corn against the picante. This place is an hour's drive from my house so I ordered 3 of them to go. They are in my fridge and won't last long. When no one was looking I wiped the plate with my thumb and licked it off. I probably would have done it no matter who was looking! read more

We ordered delivery from Olivia's last night and had the Camerones Rancheros and Chicken Mole, as well as chips and a Mexican hot chocolate. There was a tons of food. Way more than the two of us could begin to eat. The shrimp were fantastic- they were perfectly cooked and the sauce was very flavorful. The mole was good too. Chips were super fresh and the hot chocolate was tasty. The salsa they brought was delicious and spicy, unfortunately I didnt see it until we had finished eating, which was too bad because the beans and rice needed a little extra zing. Would have been perfect with it! I was a tiny bit disappointed at the lack of any veggies or salad served with it, but totally understand that with delivery it might not have been easy to add without it getting all wilty from the heat. If not for the July 4th holiday and most places being closed we never would haves stumbled upon this gem of a Mexican restaurant. It was a bit of a drive but totally worth it. The place is a converted old house so it was really cool looking inside. Small and quant. The menu didn't have all of the endless combos and fajitas, just two pages of authentic goodness. The salsa was spicy and flavorful and the chips fresh and crispy. And the food! We had a delicious selection of burrito, tacos, and enchiladas (and fish for our non-meat eater). I came in on Sunday for breakfast with my dad. The place was full, and we were waiting in the middle of the restaurant for someone to acknowledge us. A female waitress told us we could sit on the empty table in front of us. She took our order right away. I ordered a milkshake and my dad a Jarritos. 30 minutes had passed and I figured the food was taking long because the place looked full. At that moment a new table comes in and gets seated and their order taken. Next thing we know, a male waiter is asking if we ordered a certain dish and we say "no." When I see the table that just came in get all their food I start getting so mad. I was trying to be understanding but that was ridiculous. By now it had been 40 minutes of sitting and waiting. Our waitress never came to check up on us. I ask the male waiter about our food. He turns around and asks the kitchen about our food, but he never came to me to offer an explanation. I see our waitress just peek her head behind the counter. My dad and I continue to sit there for another 5 minutes. At that point I was furious. We get up, pay for our drinks and leave. This is probably my new favorite breakfast spot in Watsonville. The place is welcoming with good Hispanic music in the background. Full of pictures with stories going back generations. The chips are really crispy and the sauce has a good kick to it! The huevos rancheros are amazing! I stopped by here to get a bite on my way home with my two sisters. The food was okay, and the customer service was not the best. Regardless, I still left a cash tip on my way out. When I got home, out of curiosity, I checked my receipt & realized they charged me an automatic 18% tip. The bottom of the receipt says, "For parties of 6 or larger, an 18% gratuity is applied automatically." Mind you, it was ONLY 3 of us. A cash tip plus an automatic $12 tip is beyond absurd. Stopped at Olivia's cafe for brunch. Once pulled into the driveway, was happy to find a good number of parking spots behind the building. Inside is cute, a few tables and 2 very nice and pretty ladies running the place. Chips and salsa was a great start, super spicy and texturally smooth/blended salsa with hot crispy chips. Very good. They didn't refill our chips after we started them, which is probably for the best. The water glasses had ice and lime wedges in it which was great, and we also got 2 cans of Diet Coke which were served with glass with ice and a straw. Then my chilaquiles with queso fresco and onions came out, along with my dining partner's machaca. Both dishes were piping hot, which was great. The meals were both good. My chilaquiles were not too soggy which is very important, they still had a bit of crunch to them. My companion's machaca was pretty good as well. Both were slightly spicy. Rating 4* instead of 5* because the seasoning or flavor overall wasn't super deep or unique. This place had a great vibe and good food, and would come back if in the neighborhood! read more

Stopped for lunch with the fam on the way to pick apples and found Olivia's Cafe on Yelp. Ordered one of each of the tacos (homemade corn tortillas) with fish, asada, pollo and the kids split the ham and cheese omelette with side of pancakes. Plenty of food and tasted really homemade. Salsa was medium but the kind that makes you want to keep dipping your chips in even though your mouth is slightly on fire. Would definitely stop here again the next time we are nearby. read more

Last Saturday, My husband, my toddler, and I went to try this place based on the reviews they had, but it didn't go well. Once we walked in, they said we could sit at any table we wanted. We took a corner table that sat four with a window view and a passthrough window, as I don't t do well in small tight close areas. Everything was going well; coffee was good and all, but then 15 min in, we were asked to move by one of the staff because they had a large group that needed to be seated and that they needed two tables to accommodate them. We were moved into a tight area where my husband had to sit on the side of the table, which didn't accommodate his height. We couldn't pull the chair far enough to sit comfortably; knowing that we were already not comfortable seated and would be elbow to elbow, we decided to cancel our order since we didn't yet have received our meals. I went to the cashier to pay for our coffee and my son's juice and cancel our order. At first, they were ok but then The lady who had asked us to move said that the food was almost out and if we wanted to take it to go; I declined, as we just wanted a nice place to sit and have a nice breakfast with my family, since that was our intentions when we got there, not to take it home. Then she wanted to charge us $20 to cancel the order, which I said no, I'm just paying for my drinks. Typically once a customer has sat and has placed their order, it is not practical to have them move. That is not considered good service. No matter how many people are waiting or how big the other group is. Standard practice when there are no tables available to accommodate a large group is to have the party wait until a table becomes available. However, In her defense, she stated that's she Would rather lose a small group than a large group, which showed when she made a party of one wait for 45min. Her concern here was about losing the $$$$ if that large group decided to leave and not how well her service is. Based on other people's experiences And reviews with this restaurant, it seems standard practice to move people around. read more
