Some backstory: After a string of failed rebuilds and repairs by multiple vendors of our new-built in 2019 irrigation system we found ourselves at wits end with our chronically faulty system. So, we reached out to a personal friend who is one of the top arborists in San Diego to ask him for help. His assessment upon hearing our history and viewing our system was that we should probably start over - remove and replace the entire system. He recommended we call Olivio Irrigation and that we trust and do whatever they recommend. He said he had referred many people to them over the years and that they do premium work. We were very encouraged to see that Olivio had a solid 5-star rating on Yelp across 180-reviews and called them immediately. The owner, Jose Olivio, picked up the call. He offered to stop by that same day to assess the situation which we gladly accepted. He took a good 15-20 minutes to understand our system. He recommended we replace the entire system and clearly explained why. He took the time to show us the high-quality products he like to use for reliability and longevity of the system. He added that he would warranty the system so would remain on-call for any future issues. He quoted us an extremely fair price and offered us an installation slot on his calendar for the following week for what would be a 2-3 day installation. He showed up on-time on the morning of installation and his crew of three worked diligently for 3-days to complete the job. During this time, they had to do extensive trenching throughout the property. We were impressed by the consistent professionalism and cleanliness of their operation. Each night they made sure the property was clean and tidy. Upon completion Jose gave us a thorough tour of what he had done. First, the site was impeccable. The predominantly grass and DG areas showed literally no sign of any construction. Our new 8-valve system had been set-up exactly to our specs. And he walked us through how to operate the system and gave us instructions for the next two weeks as to how to run and test the system to help him assess any tweaks that may be needed in his follow up appointment. Again, A+ professionalism and communication. They delivered excellent product. They delivered it on time. And they were an absolute pleasure to work with. They did other cool things which we appreciated and think speak to high-quality and high-integrity of this business. 1. They didn't want a deposit and said we could pay after the job was completed to our satisfaction. And 2. While it was outside the scope of the job, they went ahead and replaced all the irrigation in our three large-sized veggie beds as a freebie. We are not in the habit of voluntarily giving bonuses to subcontractors, but in the case of Olivio, we were so impressed we did. We are so glad we hired Olivio. I called Jose Olivio this week to see why my automated sprinkler system wasn't working. He and his worker arrived and began the process of troubleshooting the issue. The worker found that only one station was working out of four. The worker walked to the outside valve and reconnected the system. The service call took 15 minutes, and Jose charged me $75. Less than 5 minutes after they left, I noticed a leak in the old valve. I immediately texted Jose, and he replied that he would come back the following day. I didn't hear from him the following day, so I was going to start writing a negative Yelp review. I decided to be patient and wait a few days. I called Olivio Landscaping just before 8pm on a weeknight because my husband, myself and my neighbor could not figure out how to turn off 2 sets of sprinklers in our backyard that my husband and turned on manually. Olivio was very prompt to come out and give my mom an estimate. The written estimate was for $195 to replace a valve and $395 for wiring (which turned out to be cleaning off wires when the valve was replaced). Two men arrived on Saturday and he called to say they were out front. Olivio showed up after the two men had completed putting in the new valve. He won't tell you what he/his crew did to fix something and he doesn't know what the men did before he shows up to collect the check. When Olivio said he was done no one had turned on the sprinklers to see if they worked. I went out and turned on the sprinklers and asked what had been done because I had done some troubleshooting on my own and was curious. He wouldn't answer me. He said "we did whatever is written on the estimate"... I don't think he realized that I had some idea what was going on and immediately started back pedaling when I asked pointed questions. He said he's been doing this for 25 years and that's just the price. He didn't know if the two men had even visited part of the back yard. Turns out the $395 worth of wiring was to clean the wires of the one replaced valve. He didn't realize that my uncle and I were inside and he changed his tune once he realized it wasn't just my mom home. He wouldn't give us any sort of invoice for his completed work and ended up saying "just give me whatever you think is fair". I think he got embarrassed when it became obvious what he was trying to pull. Olivio was prompt and knows what he is doing but he will absolutely rip you off along the way. At the end of the day, he'll say "does it work?" and try to charge you for the worst case scenario. I would not recommend giving this man any of your business. He had every intention of charging what he estimated regardless of the work that was actually done. Two men for a little over an hour of work, Olivio for 30 minutes (including negotiating) and a $30 valve and he was going to charge $590. read more
