Delicious meal here at the relocated and reimagined Don Pepe. They still have lots of seafood, as well as some Greek and Mediterranean dishes in addition to Portuguese. We started with the cucumber, pistachio, and yogurt, with harissa and sesame seeds. Like a very creative and refreshing Mediterranean pickle. Delish. We also got the Mediterranean salad. It was much more interesting than your typical Greek salad. Excellent feta, good cucumbers and tomato, and nice little pita chip slivers. They also start you with very good bread with olive oil and some olives. For our entrées we got Chilean Seabass, Branzino fillet, and Mariscada, which is a big shellfish stew. While it's not indicated on the menu, all entrées come with saffron rice, sautéed vegetables... And their homemade potato chips. The person who got the Mariscada was so happy. It had every kind of fresh shellfish and really was enough for two people. I really enjoyed the Branzino fillet, which came with a lemon caper sauce. It was huge and very delicious, I had to give some pieces away. The Chilean Seabass is the most expensive, at $55. For me, I felt that I have had better Seabass and I preferred my $36 branzino. But the person who ordered it was thrilled and thought it was amazing, and gets it every time here. I loved the saffron rice, and the homemade potato chips. I didn't eat the sautéed vegetables (there was just too much food everywhere!). But the person who tried them thought they were extremely delicious. Overall, this is a great place for sharing, with tons of food. And the cucumber, harissa yogurt, pistachio and sesame seed appetizer showed that they are innovating and not just doing your parent's Don Pepe. Oliver was also a super server as was everyone else on the team. And we enjoyed the patio... though I must say that being over Route 46 traffic is not the most atmospheric, and I wish the patio was on the other side! But who can complain with all this yummy food? We finally tried Olivo and expected more after getting mixed reviews from others that had visited. The renovation is amazing and maybe this is why I expected the food to be more elevated. It seems that the food tasted the same but presented & plated differently. I asked the waiter if the Chef remained from the previous establishment and he confirmed; this is why the food tasted familiar. I'm not sure if I'd return and would say my overall experience was just, OK. Arancini: Arborio rice was bland & cold Clams Casino: Good, but the mashed potato did not pair well Mariscada Red Sauce: Good, tiny little shrimp & obnoxiously large calamari rings. Went to the bar for our first experience on a Saturday night the place was packed. We got special treatment from management and some fantastic cocktails. The bartender, that runs all the bars for this restaurant group was there this evening and prepared a really special martini cocktail with an oyster chaser. The drinks are imaginative, and the food is fresh and plentiful. It's a blend of flavors but mostly Spanish. Came here on a Friday night with reservations to dine about 7 pm. Upon entering, I could already tell this place had great neutral decorations that felt very high-end. We were seated pretty quickly and our waiter provided water and bread with olive oil for the table. We ordered our drinks, I had a Miss Behavin, it was a good drink. For appetizer, we had pita bread with three different type of humus. I ordered a seafood paella and my friend got paella with seafood and chicken. My wife & I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here on Saturday night. Always looking to try a new spot, and we hit paydirt here! We were greeted by complimentary champagne (I noted the anniversary on our reservation). Everything after that was really quite good. Service was impeccable (Thank you Darwin!). Attentive but not overbearing. The entire crew works together to ensure comfort and cleanliness. Even the managers got in on the act! Food was really very, VERY good. Sea Bass cooked to perfection, as were my filet mignon medallions (medium). Our appetizer (oysters) was served on a bed of ice ON TOP of a smoldering bed of dry ice. Nice presentation. Craft cocktail menu had some great offerings (Sunset at Jalisco was killer!!!) Prices weren't astronomical, but it was no bargain basement either. Dinner for 2 with appetizer and cocktails came out to $237 including a healthy $50 tip for terrific service. To echo some of the complaints I read, yes, the noise levels make conversation challenging, but not much can really be done about that. Maybe we got lucky with our server, but I can't find one thing about Olivo to complain about. read more

Very impressed with the beautiful, modern, and inviting bright and airy atmosphere; as well as the attentive, friendly, and welcoming service. Thank you to our server Tony for helping to make it a memorable dining experience. The food was outstanding! The grilled octopus and shrimp in garlic appetizers were absolutely delicious. My entree of Filet Mignon Medallions, grilled and finished with mushroom sauce was a home run. Tender, juicy, and mouth waveringly delicious!! Also came with sides of mixed veggies, saffron rice, and Spanish potato chips. Certainly would order it again. The whole Branzino, seasoned with herbs, Olive Oil, and lemon, filleted at the table, was also off the charts. The baklava w/ice cream, Crème brûlée, and cappuccinos finished off a perfect meal. Excellent service in this bright, new. Welcoming restaurant. We were HUGE fans of the now closed Dom Pepe ll so we're excited to try this. We understand the new owners bought both Dom Pepe Steakhouse (this location) and Dom Pepe ll around the corner. Olivo has Mediterranean fare similar to the old Dom Pepe ll. The food was good but not great. We preferred Dom Pepe ll. The service was excellent- the best. Balanced out I gave 4 stars overall. The lobster in both mariscata and paella was tough. Shrimp were smaller than jumbo shrimp we are accustomed to. Veal francais was tender, but kind of boring. The white sangria was orange (not white) and very strong didn't taste like sangria at all. Celebrated my dad's birthday here with a group of 6 on a weekday. Parking on site; when you enter you really feel like you have stepped into vacation mode and out of NJ which is wonderful. Ok now doe the breakdown Chorizo (5/5) really solid option and the table enjoyed it Lamb chips (5/5) super juicy and tender really flavorful and a great option Broccoli Rabe (1/5) really bland kind of a fail for me sadly Paella (3/5) it is definitely more of a 2 person sharing option if you were only eating this. We had a number of apps and sides so it fed our table well. On its own it was fine but not spectacular in terms of flavor and rice was cooked fine. No major issues just not wow for me personally. Sangria (5/5) really great refreshing and I would recommend the pitcher! Dessert we got the crème brulle which was yum and we also ordered the baklava with iced cream which was delish! The bar/lounge area is also large, fresh and inviting. The 2 1/2 lb steamed lobsters were cooked to perfection. Soft, juicy and tender. Very fresh. The bone in rib eye was perfectly cooked to medium rare. Soft and very tender. Side dishes of fresh cut potato chips and mixed vegetables topped it off. A very nice complimentary portion of fried zucchini slices with Parmesan cheese started us off. Third visit in 45 days - definitely our new favorite! Celine at the front is always friendly and the staff is attentive. We had 2 separate, unrelated reservations that she was able to combine into one on a Saturday night - impressive. My wife swore she was going to try something different but ended up with the Shrimp in green sauce she's ordered every time - loved it so much. I tried the scallops and they did not disappoint - nice sear on outside, tender on the inside. Interesting choice to pair with mashed potatoes - I would have liked more flavor in the potatoes. The grilled octopus is my new favorite appetizer. The Mariscada is probably the best overall dish on the menu - IMO. The outside seating is finally open - we were inside in the dining room to the left near the bar as this has the biggest table. Love the modern, light decor. Had not been here since it was Don Pepe. Same food, same employees, different owner. Place looks amazing and the service was great from hostess to valet and in between. Our server was Oliver. It's made with REAL espresso unlike some that make it with coffee liquor. The red sangria was close to our homemade lol! I had the Kobe pork chop and it was cooked to perfection juicy and delicious. Hubby had the swordfish and again cooked exactly the way he likes it. We didn't order any apps since they give you vegetables, some yellow rice as well as homemade chips. Came here for a guy's night and this place did not disappoint! It's a Mediterranean restaurant so there was a wide range of different flavors and many aged meats. Decent beer selection and it had been a while since I had Mythos (Greek beer) so I had to order that and it brought back many memories. Bread and olive oil was brought to our table to start things off. We decided to share a bunch of tapas for appetizers and went with the thick cut bacon, ham croquettes, grilled squid, shrimp in garlic sauce, and the chorizo. Everything was amazing so we couldn't wait to get our mains. Since we were a party of 5, we split a Rib eye steak and a paella valenciana. Super tasty and flavorful. Starting with the good: the restaurant is stunning, and the service is warm, they make you feel like a vip! But...in a place where the Iberian may be the best in the US I expected more. Don Pepe has a legacy in NJ of authentic delicious Iberian cuisine and to me this fell short. The pulpo a la gallega, a standard Spanish dish was not crispy at all :-( the pan con tomate another favorite had good flavor but was not toasted. On Thursday, my boyfriend and I decided to visit the location that was formally known as Don Pepe Steak House. The location is under new ownership and is now called Olivo. I remember clearly what it used to look like inside since I had been there a few times. Now all I can say is wow! What was once a caterpillar has blossomed into a gorgeous butterfly! The new owners have totally transformed this location into the most amazing restaurant. From start to finish, my boyfriend and I had an incredible evening. The ambience is spectacular! We arrived for dinner and it was still daylight outside. There are now huge windows in the whole restaurant enabling natural lighting inside. In addition, there is also a skylight in one of the dining rooms. Under it sits and olive tree. It really is a beautiful centerpiece when you walk in and see that. We ate in that dining area, which was right behind the bar. Our server, Miguel was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and the wines. He suggested wines according to my likes and went over the menu and gave us his recommendations. We decided to try a bunch of appetizers even though I originally went in to try the bacon steak. There were so many apps it was so hard to pick just one. All of the appetizers had were excellent! The bacon steak did not disappoint! The Greek salad was very refreshing. For our main entrees we decided to go with fish and steak. Might as well have the the best of both worlds! LOL! The baked Branzino was very fresh and had a light taste, not fishy at all. The dry aged Porterhouse was huge and they sliced it for us before it came out. I had the filet side and it was super tender and juicy. For sides we had Spanish potatoes, saffron rice and mixed veggies. We had so much food left over! Of course my kids devoured it when we got home. I'm not sure how I had any room left for dessert but as stuffed as I was I just had to try the Burnt Basque Cheesecake which Miguel highly recommended. He was not kidding when he said it was so creamy and unlike any other cheesecake around. When you go to Olivo, please do yourself a favor and have this cheesecake for dessert. You will be hooked. You can thank me later. My compliments to the chef for preparing our excellent meal! The service was as spectacular as the food. Miguel was da bomb and Eduardo, the manager visited with us several times throughout the evening. He made us feel so welcome and at home. He was very gracious and thankful that we chose to dine there. He invited us back and back we will go. My mom is turning 81 and I already reserved a table for a small group of us to celebrate with her. It's a surprise! Shhh... don't tell her! I highly recommend a visit and make a reservation. Olivo might be perfect if you're planning a dinner with people you have nothing to say to. Conversation is basically impossible unless you're fluent in lip reading or have mastered semaphore across the table. The noise level was so high I started to wonder if there was a "Who Can Yell Louder?" contest. I love good food, but I also like to hear the person I'm dining with. Call me old-fashioned. So, if your ideal night out is delicious food, stylish surroundings, and the comforting silence of not being able to communicate with your dinner companion, Olivo is your spot. I was visiting the area and wanted to take my hosts out for a nice dinner so we picked Olivo. It was lovely. There were 4 of us and we ordered drinks and appetizers to share, the garlic shrimp, grilled octopus and a Caesar salad. Complimentary bread was also very good and it was hard not fill up. Then the 4 of us shared a chicken cutlet dish, a seafood paella (big portions!) and a skirt steak that was a special for the evening. Even though we were pretty full and had leftovers to take home we just had to have dessert! A flan and a tiramisu to share and some coffees to finish up. The worst part we had a table right by the door, they have soft closing doors and it was a very cold and windy night, so was cold every time someone came in which was ALL the time. Worst seat in the house and the hostess was NO help with the situation. Lastly, VERY loud. table of 4 and had a hard time hearing the conversation.
