Upscale old world Italian restaurant. The bar area is pretty contemporary but the dining room is in need of a refresh. It's well-appointed and elegant but also has the feel that nothing has changed in 20 years. Perhaps their intention. The food was good but unfortunately we didn't find anything to be outstanding. The meatball appetizer was very good as were the oysters. But the grilled shrimp was incredibly salty. So much so, I should have sent it back. The kids had filet mignon and it was fine, but nothing extraordinary. My Chilean sea bass, their signature dish, had no seasoning whatsoever and was jammed into this tiny serving pan. My wife enjoyed the bolognese. Service was excellent but our server was very cold and unfriendly. I suspect he's been there a long time and has become complacent. The owner stopped by most tables - a very nice touch. Bottom line, it's a nice place for a special occasion. But I do think legendary restaurants like this often get tired but are still successful because of previous reputation. read more

I called them and asked if they're baby friendly, they were bit reluctant but still said we wont ask you to not bring your baby, even though it's a fancy place. That made ne feel a little unwelcome. The service n hospitality after we went in though was really good. I didn't like that they served cold bread n butter, bread was not at par to what you expect in a fancy place. We got fennel salad, which I didn't enjoy much, tasted bland honestly. We then got a truffle pasta which was in special, it was good but i have had better also it was a 70$ dish abd i just felt that it didn't do justice to the cost. Also ordered branzino which was fresh n melt in mouth but lacked any seasonings or flavours. MOSTLY excellent. The majority of the experience met and/or exceeded expectations, but there were a few things that weren't my favorite. I'll get those out of the way first. Listen, a fancy restaurant needs to serve warmed bread. This cold bread and butter thing just isn't right. As for the food, I wanted the Caesar salad to be better. It tasted a little bitter. Besides those two things, everything is top tier. The SERVICE was an 11/10. They made us feel so special on our Anniversary. They have other comforts like a coat check and vallet parking. My glass of sauvignon blanc was wonderful. Really enjoyed the special (which was a cured meat with peppers) and also enjoyed my carbonara. The pumpkin bread pudding and espresso were also lovely. First time here. Came with my GF and a friend in from France. A truly incredible experience from start to finish. Amazing Cocktails and extensive wine list. The food incredible. I had the Fettuccine Bolognese and both my GF and friend had the Seabass. Started with a pasta in olive oil and garlic. Everything was fantastic including the bread. The service was impeccable and courteous and friendly. Servers was knowledgeable on all facets of the menu. Awesome decor and the piano music was great. Will be back again soon. read more

A group of us recently had a work dinner at Il Capriccio and it was fantastic! This was my first time here after passing it so many times. The restaurant is beautiful inside and the service is first rate. I started off with an appetizer special...melon wrapped in prosciutto with burrata. It was light and delicious! For an entree, I ordered scallops which were perfectly prepared. Topping the meal off with tiramisu and cappuccino was perfect! My previous review still applies, and I'll keep it quoted below. But the staff up front were even WORSE in attitude than before! The first guy stalked up to me and waved me around to the right. Another guy there then started asking questions and I'm like, I'm just trying to figure out where to park, and he then said "you're trying to F** WITH US?!" I didn't say that. But he repeated it. So I left. And I am NOT coming back. And I highly recommend you do not either. I don't eat out Italian or high-end restaurants unless there's an occasion, so it's been this long for me to get here and it's quite a bit longer that I'll be here. This place is NOISY and service takes long. In the European manner, right? Flaws: Regular parking was coned off and I ended up in a poorly signed gravel back lot instead. A couple of staff up front (the hostess was wonderful though) were abrupt in attitude and caused unannounced changes without consulting with us or apologizing. Lesson 1: TRAIN YOUR STAFF. Lesson 2: Sound deadening is more important than vaulted ceilings. On to food. The bread was not in my top 50 Italian breads ever and I'm not sure I've had 50. Burnt and tasteless. Menu prices are quite high for what I've noted above. What am I paying for here? Upsides: Oysters for the appetizer and more seafood for the entree (with yummy mushrooms). A long wait to get to those items, but service got friendlier at least. Servers brought me plenty of water. Oysters' crabmeat is real crab. The sauce makes that dish just right. My neighbor's Caesar salad was stocked with freshly chopped garlic. The seafood was tasty (though undersized) and I sopped up that sauce with the subpar bread. Verdict: Don't come here if you value your time, your wallet, or your hearing. Otherwise go for it! read more

This place is one of the fancier, more up-scale dining restaurants in the area. I don't think they serve enough food for the price you pay. My glass was empty, so I started to pour more wine and a server from across the restaurant ran over and grabbed the bottle of wine to finish my pour. "You don't pour your own wine here." I respected the class and service of this waiter, but had my waiter been more diligent, another wouldn't have had to cover for them. Service needs to be 10/10 for the price! There was also another table seated near us that was utterly repulsive for reasons I cannot say, but I don't blame the restaurant - I think that was just my luck that night. The food was non-memorable for me, personally. I can see why people like it here, but portion for price brings me to a 3 star review. read more

My husband and I visited last night to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We were definitely very please with the beautiful restaurant and decor. This is a true Italian restaurant- don't come if you don't have time to spare. They also have a strict dress code, men usually wear business or business casual, women it's a bit more relaxed but no flip flops or athleisure. I came in without a reservation just after 8pm on a weekday and was sat right away. Service was incredibly friendly. Once you get in the doors each person treats you like family. By the time I left at least three of them were giving me a hug and asking me to come back. Loved the atmosphere, as it's still very upscale. The food was absolutely worth the hype. The complementary bread and bruschetta-style topping was delicious, I couldn't get enough between servings. The stuffed artichoke heart is only one single heart- very good and cooked well to not be chewy, but I wouldn't order it if I wasn't alone (not enough to share). I also tried their version of ceviche that was on special- only lackluster part of the meal, it was flavorless. The stuffed filet mignon was wildly good. I don't even like gorgonzola but had to try it and I'm so glad I did. Cooked perfectly, not chewy, wrapped in prosciutto and quite a large portion. I could only finish half. I ended with a tiramisu and my favorite port. Brilliant meal from start to finish, and I can't wait to come back when I'm in town again. read more

My partner decided on this place for his birthday, so of course it's where we went. There is absolutely no change from my last review. Food is incredible and service is flawless. I love that there is always a special that I want to try - this time it was a ceviche style branzino. The texture, the flavor, the citrus and the hint of jalapeno was exactly as our waiter described. One of the things we both love about this place would be described as "old school" service. Not only is every waiter we have ever had excellent, but if wine needs to be poured, or something else needs to be handled, any waiter will step in to help. The only tiny, really minor thing that I would say is that I would prefer the bread to be warmed a bit. It was actually a little cold in the middle. It was still great, but would be even greater warm. We'll be back. Granted it's worth every penny, but $325 for two people (including one bottle of wine, tax and tip) makes it difficult to come as often as we would like. read more

Popped in here for a dinner. I had to dine and dash, but had a chance to order first and then get moving. The insalate with gorgonzola was quite good. Not as good as their beet salad they used to have, but still good. The paparadelle with porcini (mushrooms) was also solid, unassuming and not too savory or sweet - just mildly enjoyable with good pasta and a hint of mushroom sauce. The special antipasti w/ housemade sausage and olives, etc. was a bit disappointing - such tiny servings. Two plates for 10 people wasn't enough on there to share. Meatballs were smaller than I remember, too, though people did like the taste. And they did get very touchy over the wine. Some of our diners drank a bit faster and tried to pour themselves a refill from the decanted red wine (lovely container), but the waiter came over after seeing it and was upset we were doing his job... which, if he was paying attention to the table, would've seen the need to fill the glasses? While I'm not a wine drinker, it was a bit disconcerting having them battle over who to fill the glass. read more

I am inclined to believe that the same would translate to a "regular" dining experience. As such, I would highly recomm coming here for dinner when you in the area and searching for food. Updating my review: this deserved a fifth star after my dinner here on Friday. When we come into the restaurant, I am always amazed by how beautiful the restaurant is. It has a very authentic Italian vibe with a great ambiance. The service is always spot on. It's not too invasive, but they still have great attention to detail. They answer all questions and take care of any issues. I ordered the carpaccio di polpo (octopus carpaccio), which was plated like a work of art. It was tender and flavorful. For my main course, I ordered ossobuco, which was spectacular. It was super tender and the sauce was to die for. The risotto with it was cooked to perfection and made a great addition. My husband and I came here for our wedding anniversary. This is the type of place you come to for a special dinner. They have valet parking so bring tip money. The quality of food and service is superb. You can tell they put attention into everything that they do. I do have to say- the dessert was my absolute favorite part. Their tartufo and pistachio gelato is to die for. Definitely save room for it. Their burrata with prosciutto is amazing as an app. The seafood salad was my least favorite part of the meal. My wife loved her Chilean sea bass, my son's filet was cooked to perfection, my New York strip was amazing, and my daughter said her spaghetti was the best she's ever had. Stopped by this place on the recommendation of a friend who was raving about the decor, food, etc. Just wanted to try the meatballs, that he said were the best he'd ever tasted, since I had just had dinner in Mendham. Beautiful decor inside, nicely dressed staff, valet outside, great first impression. Sat at the bar intending to just order and go, but Angela the bartender encouraged me to stay for a drink and order some food to go as well. Let me start by saying the service is impeccable at this restaurant, whether it's the coat check ladies, the valet, the host/hostess, the bartenders, or the servers. This is part of what you're paying for and why they have such high marks. The food was delicious, as was the dessert. The wine list is excellent, with many different varietals to choose from. The price point is about 2 to 2.5, which is normal for their area. I like that they take reservations, and unless you plan on just going to the bar, I highly recommend you make one. The pianist was great and picked up on what was happening in the dining room, even singing Happy Birthday. The reason for four instead of five stars is the price point. While I understand you are paying for service, it bothers me that I'm being charged $42 for pasta with a few clams and half of a tiny lobster tail. It was delicious, but their pasta prices were too high. Everything is at least 30% higher than any other Italian restaurant in the area, but again, not to sound redundant, but paying for the ambiance and experience. The dress code is strict, so be forewarned. So, when you're not just looking for a meal but a meal with a great experience, this is your spot! read more

My children took me to Il Capriccio for a birthday dinner; although I have lived in the area for approximate 30 years, it was my first time dining there. Everything was excellent. All workers greeted everyone and were very friendly and attentive. The bar and dining area have a very elegant, but warm look and feel. Menu is extensive. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Live piano music was soothing and not too loud. We shared an appetizer special, prosciutto and melon with burrata; honeydew melon was very sweet. Caesar salad was prepared table side and was delicious. Personally I had the grilled veal chop special that was prepared well and accompanied by small roast potatoes and a mushroom/onion/veggie side that was very tasty. Drinks (bourbon old fashioned) was strong but sweet the way I like it. Vanilla butter cake was a great finish. Overall a nice experience and I definitely plan to be back for a special occasion. Had my birthday lunch here yesterday. Have been to the restaurant before, and it lived up to my wonderful memory of it! As soon as you arrive on the doorstep, the experience begins. The entrance is beautiful; the dining room beautifully decorated with a real Italian villa look. Ceilings, flower arrangements, and accessories all add to the ambiance. And then, the food--the menu is extensive, the winelist great. One of the few places that sells Amerone by the glass. I had the arugula salad, Chilean sea bass with cannolini beans and broccoli rabe with a wonderful brothlike garlic sauce. Fantastic! Dessert was zabaione with berries. Everything was wonderful.
