I've been meaning to come here for years. I took the girl I used to babysit out for a dinner date this past Saturday. The menu is huge. The specials menu could have been the full menu in itself! The cocktail menu also had a lot of good options; had a hard time choosing. We started with a Shirley temple, thyme out and calamari. She had the pesto bucatini with an added burrata and I had the truffle tagliatelle from the specials menu. The thyme hot cocktail was delicious. We also got complimentary bread and marinara. The bread was soft and tasty. The calamari was light and ok. My date enjoyed her pasta; said she always gets it when she comes here. My tagliatelle pasta was DELICIOUS. The restaurant is cute and all the staff are so nice. Plenty of parking but unfortunately it's paid parking (not a deal breaker though!) 11/25/25: Update- Met up with a Yelp friend for dinner. Water was served along with complementary rosemary bread and marinara sauce. I've had the bread here in the past. This time, it seemed to be lacking the rosemary seeds and flavor. The sauce was blah. We ordered Porn Star Martinis to start out the evening. The cocktails were delish! Our starter included a super yummy Pear Arugula flatbread! : ) Entrées included a French chicken $28 for me and Hangar Steak $35 for my friend. I had a Taste of the Hangar Steak. It was delicious. I wish, I had ordered it. Taking one star off because the French chicken was extremely dry. Our regular server did not serve the entrées. I didn't see our regular server to flag down. All the other servers were running around. Otherwise, I would've asked one of them. Our server came over when it was dessert time. We decided to order Espresso Martini Shots. The shots were yummy! I've been to DeNovo many times. From now on, I would forego their entrees and stick with their amazing cocktails and wonderful appetizers. Don't be fooled... De Novo European Pub isn't your ordinary pub or drinking establishment. It's more of an elevated, sophisticated gastropub with higher-end restaurant-style food. We had a 6:30pm dinner reservation on a Tuesday evening. There's a parking lot in the rear with allocated spots. There's also street parking nearby. The restaurant was lively and busy. They have a full bar, high top tables, communal booth seating along one wall, and a section with tables for groups. It's not a huge place, so I recommend making reservations, especially for larger groups. The interior is styled after a casual European pub, but with rustic and elegant touches like fuchsia bougainvillea flowers, hanging industrial lights, antique chandeliers, distressed wood, etc. It's the ideal spot for date nights and celebrations. The tables are close together, so it does feel a bit crowded and the noise level can get high. The menu offers classic favorites from both European and American cuisines. The European dishes mainly consist of Italian, Greek, and Mediterranean flavors. I was surprised to see they have a full sushi menu! The drink menu is extensive - cocktails, wines, beer, hard liquor, you name it! Just a heads up - the prices listed on the menu are cash prices. Card pricing is available on their website. Mark was our server and I could tell that he enjoys his job! He had a fun personality and was attentive & welcoming from start to finish. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us recommendations on what to order. He made sure we were enjoying ourselves. The other staff members were quick with clearing our dishes and refilling waters. Not once did we feel rushed. 5 star service from Mark! We received complimentary bread and marinara dip to start, which we weren't too crazy about. The bread would've been better if it was served warm and had more seasoning on top. The marinara was watery and a bit bland. We ordered... *Porn Star Martini $16 (Weber Ranch vodka, passion fruit, lime, vanilla, sparkling rose) - My new favorite cocktail ;) It was the right balance of tropical, tart, and sweet. The sweetness was very subtle and the passion fruit flavor really shone through. The sparkling wine added a bubbly, crisp finish with every sip. I could definitely taste the alcohol... and I felt it running through my veins too LOL. *Pear Flatbread $18 (brie, caramelized pears, crumbled bacon, arugula, balsamic drizzle) - Highly recommend this appetizer! The bread is very thin and crispy, so it won't fill you up too much before your main course. Every bite was cheesy goodness combined with sweet & salty flavors from the pears and crunchy bacon bits. *Charred Hanger Steak $35 (with side of roasted mashed potatoes, wilted spinach, & chimichurri sauce) - Absolutely delicious! I requested my steak to be done medium and the chef delivered. It had a pink center with a rich, beefy flavor. It was tender, juicy, and paired well with the fresh, tangy, & herbal flavors of the chimichurri sauce. The mashed potatoes were soft and buttery. I only wish I got a larger portion of steak LOL. *French Chicken Breast $28 (topped with asparagus, manchego, almonds, pink peppercorns, capers, & potatoes) - The chicken was tender, but lacked moisture. It was a bit dry, but still enjoyable enough to eat. *Espresso Martini Shot $5 (Ketel One Vodka, espresso, Caffe Borghetti) - Coffee + alcohol.... a winner!!! The espresso and the vodka were nicely balanced. This was the perfect dessert drink - smooth, bold, nutty, & sweet. I would happily return. Good food, good drinks, good service, good ambiance... I dined here recently and had an overall good meal. It's a beautiful restaurant and the service was excellent. Making a reservation is a must; we had a Friday night reservation and the entire restaurant was packed. Thankfully, even though it was pretty busy, the courses were well-timed. I had the hibiscus kiss mocktail, which was super refreshing without being too sweet. We ordered some assorted cooked sushi rolls for the table, which were excellent. I'll definitely be back eventually to try more of their sushi menu; they have so many options. For my entree, I ordered the salmon, which was plated with bacon crumble mashed potatoes (best part of the meal) and veggies. Everything was cooked well, but it was a lacking in flavor. Although it came with a horseradish cream sauce, there wasn't enough on the plate for the entire piece of fish. Still, I'd dine here again (would probably stick with sushi though)! read more

We have been living in Montclair for 5 years now and I regret not trying De Novo before tonight! I really enjoyed the upscale but casual vibe, and then have a great location next to the train station. We ordered the Chicken Milanese, the Black Spaghetti, and the Short Rib Agnolotti, all to share between three people. The server was incredibly helpful and brought each dish out individually, in stages, to make sharing easier. It made us feel like we were eating a multiple course meal. We started with the Short Rib Agnolotti and were blown away. The little ravioli were stuffed with very tender and rich short rib. The sauce was creamy and truffly, which we loved. We then had the Black Spaghetti. The pasta was fresh and tasted home-made, which really impressed me. The sauce was light but tasty, and had lots of lobster chunks and broccoli. The Chicken Milanese was pounded thin, breaded well, and was super crispy. It was garnished with lettuce, parm, and tomato, which added a nice fresh touch to the dish. I came here for dinner on a Thursday evening with a colleague. I would say we had a wonderful time. The service was amazing. It was very busy so I highly recommend making a reservation. Now the food. I love that they had a mocktail menu. And overall a great selection of wines and spirits. They started the table with focaccia and it comes out hot and so delicious. I could probably just have filled up on that. Now for the appetizer I got a beet salad. It was very fresh and very big portion size. Last but not least, my entree was the rigatoni bolognese. The muscles were perfectly steamed and plentiful to share. The short ribs and polenta were decent; the short ribs could use more seasoning. The lamb shank was tender and juicy but also needed more seasoning. The portions are decent. If you don't have a large appetite, you will have leftovers. The service was excellent. De Novo presents a very unique dining experience. There aren't too many places I can think of where the menu includes American, Italian, steaks, seafood and sushi. You would think a place that would offer such diverse fare would be a train wreck. But miraculously, De Novo pulls it all off surprisingly well. Clean, upscale, yet casual dining in what once was a train station. The only knock is the room is very loud. The staff and servers are exceptional. Friendly and very attentive. An adorable restaurant with great staff and excellent food. Upon arrival, my group was greeted with hospitality and kindness that continued throughout the evening. We opted to switch our patio reservation to an indoor table since the patio space is very plain and could use some love. The staff was accommodating and adjusted quickly. We ordered the pear flatbread and the yankee roll to start. The yankee roll was delicious, however, I felt the flatbread was missing something - although not bad. I was not able to get the pictures I wanted, because we came with 8 kids and 9 adults. It was a madhouse but the waiters and waitress accommodated us. For drinks I ordered the Tainted Smoke. I love Mezcal--this drink was amazing. My girl ordered the Pink Lady--tasty but too sweet for me. The menu is simple and small, but they make up for it in flavor. We ordered, dates wrapped in bacon with Gorgonzola, Salmon, wings, and calamari. The stars were the Mushroom Risotto, and Tuna crusted with sesame seeds. When ordering the waiter overheard me saying let's split the Tuna dish and he brought it out that way. I loved that attention to detail. There is a nice mural on the wall of a woman that has flowers as the hair. Great artistic piece in a pub with an elevated flair. I would love to visit again without 8 kids. I cannot believe that this restaurant has been here for ten years and it totally slipped under my radar! What a stunner! The atmosphere is extremely lively. This place is popular! It took a bit to be seated (we had a reservation), and our server was slow to greet us, but everyone was so friendly that we really didn't mind. Also, the decor is gorgeous, with dramatic floral designs on the walls. There is also a very appealing bar, with a fabulous selection of cocktails. I had a cocktail special that was the best drink I've had in a minute. Onto the food! They bring a basket of focaccia and a dipping sauce to the table on the house. This is a lovely touch. And it was excellent. Things only got better from there. We shared a Pear Flatbread, which had brie, caramelized pears, arugula, bacon, and balsamic vinegar. The flavors worked perfectly together, and the dough was thin and crisp. I had the Scallop special with herbed risotto, roasted Brussels sprouts, apple, and a lobster sauce. The presentation was a work of art. The dish was stunning. Everything was cooked perfectly. I finished every last bite. My husband had the Filet Mignon special with blue cheese, whipped potatoes, asparagus wrapped in bacon, and a giant onion ring. Again, the presentation was gorgeous. The beef was exactly medium, as requested. He loved the dish. Somehow, we saved some room for dessert. I had a perfect cup of espresso, and we shared the flourless chocolate cake. Now, there are multitudes of sub par versions of this dish. It is on many a menu, but they are usually disappointing. Not here. This was a chocolate lovers dream. Deep and rich, yet shocking light, this cake is perfect. I highly recommend De Novo. This was the first of many dinners here. read more

My husband and I came here for our five year anniversary and it didn't disappoint. I've been wanting to come here for a while. They have a parking lot which is a plus. The inside is nice and bright and open. The only downfall if I were to say any is that seating is tight and you are next to other people. The food was top quality. You could tell everything was fresh and prepared with high standards. I also enjoyed one of their peach cocktails, which was super flavorful. We started with the calamari and it was amazing. My husband also enjoyed his Caesar salad. I got the scallop entree and my husband got the tuna. We both loved our meals.
