This restaurant is a very quite reserved dining experience. It is by reservation only. The hostess/waitress/server was also the owner. The menu is 100% authentic German. Being open more often!!! Not just by reservation "If/when" you call back! And how about not closing from November to February every year?? One more IMPORTANT thing!! How about " to go" meals?? Every restaurant has to go even for leftovers! You are situated right at the RV park. Most campers like to bring to go back to their RVs. A friend and I came here for dinner. She'd eaten lunch here before and like it. This place is a little off the beaten path....located on the north side of Compass Lake (just south of Alford, FL). It has limited hours for both lunch and dinner so check ahead if you plan on dinning here. Online seems to indicate you always need to make a reservation prior. But my friend said it wasn't that busy and that we should be able to just walk-in. The parking lot is limited and you may have to park about 25 yards away. The building looks a little dated on the outside, but the inside is fairly nice. The view of the lake was pretty cool too. So I decided to try the Cordon Blue Schnitzel (stuff with ham and cheese) and had the German Potatoes as a side....paired with a german beer. Now the beer (a brown ale) was really, really, good but I don't remember the name. The potatoes were also very good tasting. However, the schnitzel was a little lacking in flavor. The ham had no flavor and the cheese wasn't much better. The breading and meat had some flavor, but not a lot. My friend ordered a Potato soup which she shared with me. But her Apple Sauce Pork Loin wasn't as tasty as she was hoping for and said it was just OK. Our server was nice, but we were puzzled we were told they didn't have a small bowl (remember, we were sharing the potato soup). We asked a couple times and said there wasn't anything to use. We eventually ask for a coffee cup...which did the trick. The soup was good, but nothing to rave about. Overall, I feel the same way about the overall dining experience....some good, some not so good. So for me, I'm middle of the road on rating this place...3 stars! Authentic, delicious and pretty. That's right, I said pretty. The food was fabulous, and the timing and presentation were perfect. But I'm getting ahead of myself. When we walked in, we were greeted by Riina, the co-owner, she was walking us through the foyer to our table when my wife and I noticed the "beer cooler" and made a sharp left in unison to check out the German beer options. It was so refreshing to go to a restaurant where the beer selection is off the charts! Including an amazing Stout...if you're not a dark beer drinker, then you don't understand how amazing it is to be way off the beaten path and have a Stout in a restaurant...that never happens, at least not in Florida, we ordered two, and a Pretzel with Honey Mustard. The pretzel was crispy and salty on the outside and warm and soft on the inside, the sweet, spicy mustard was the perfect compliment! We started out with the potato Potato-Leek Soup which could have been a meal in itself. A huge mug of thick, savory soup was perfect on this rainy evening. But we didn't stop there, of course. For our entree, we both selected the Chicken Schnitzel with brown mushroom sauce. A salad came out first and we selected the jalapeno dressing, just the right amount of heat. As for the Schnitzel, we opted for the sauce on the side because we love the crunchy and didn't want to lose that. The chicken was tender and flavorful even without the sauce, but the sauce was savory, thick and creamy and loaded with thinly sliced mushrooms, just delicious. On this particular day, there was a large family celebrating their grandmother's birthday, which was fun since it was my wife's birthday too, so they had a fun conversation on that, and after our dinner, unsolicited, Riina brought my wife a slice of their delicious cheese cake with a birthday candle, so sweet and the literal icing on the cake! I ordered their Amaretto Biscotti Layer Cake, it was amazing. We will be back. read more

Found this little hidden gem on Compass Lake. It's German food. And if I'm being honest, I'm not a fan of German food, or at least wasn't until I ate here. Maybe I'm just not a fan of sauerkraut stuff, and everything we ordered didn't have it on it.. Everything was absolutely delicious!!! read more

My husband was born in Germany and his mom had a restaurant there. I have a hard time taking him to a German restaurant because we are usually disappointed. I have to say this is the best German restaurant in the USA that I have ever been to!!! Hubby was very well pleased and the daughter was in pure heaven!! We will absolutely be back! Talk about a neat find. We were in the area looking for something good to eat and ran across Olle's. Its located in the Compass Lake Lodge. Good German food in the middle of north west rural Florida. Who would have thought? I had the snitzel with sour kraut and Spetzle. It was amazing and you could clearly see that they put much preparation in their dishes. Olle and his wife Riina are very good at creating a wonderful meal. Olle was trained in Germany and this really shows through. You feel like you are in Europe but there is no jet lag!! Our motorcycle touring group found this spot on Google. Always looking for a new and tasty location, we gave it a try. What a find! Off the beaten track, for sure, but a beautiful spot and good menu. We were early for lunch and disappointed that the soups were not ready yet. Not a good experience Made reservations on phone and online. Arrived late because could not find the restaurant. No sign or posting of Olles anywhere. I call at 1230 to indicate would be late they close for lunch at 2pm We arrive at 1:30 sorry too late she said. have to come back ay 430. It was my birthday and we drove 1 1/2 hours. What a refreshing break from normal. Great German food with classic European desserts at a price point anyone can afford. Olle is a professionally trained Chef operating out of the Compass Lake main building.
