We had lunch here yesterday. The place was busy but we were greeted and seated right away. The restaurant wasn't big but had plenty of tables and a few booths. They also had a counter with 5 or 6 stools. The staff was friendly and efficient. Our food came out quickly and was piping hot. I had 9 fried shrimp with cheese grits and a salad. The salad was crisp and cold, the cheese grits were creamy and cheesy and the shrimp were huge, golden and fried perfectly. My husband had the fried shrimp po boy with onion rings. He said that his sandwich was delicious, with the huge, golden brown shrimp, tartar sauce, lettuce and tomato. The onion rings tasted homemade and were also delicious. Found this gem while in Bonifay when I asked a woman where she would go for lunch and she said Castaways. I had an oyster po boy and it was loaded with fried oysters. I also asked if I could have one soft shell crab as they had them that day. Not a problem. Everything was delicious. My friend had chicken fingers and she said they were very good. Then I saw them bring out their friend shrimp and I was drooling! Can't wait to go back. The work staff were very nice and accommodating. Go.....you can't go wrong. read more

There are not many dining choices for dinner in this town and Castaways was one of the higher rated establishments. They are basically a fried fish place and they do frying very well. They do not serve beer or wine. The service is very good and all of the staff seems to work well together. We ordered the mini crab cakes , fried flounder and grilled grouper. The crab cakes came out quickly and were good. They come with tarter sauce but we preferred the cocktail sauce. The fried flounder was cooked perfectly and was ordered with a side salad, grits and garlic bread. Get the flounder and grits but skip the garlic bread and salad. My husband ordered the grouper with potato salad, hush puppies and onion rings. We fish and know what Florida grouper looks like...this is NOT it. The filets were very small and thin. In Florida you can't keep a grouper this small. Also, whatever kind of fish it was and wherever it came from it was very fishy tasting. We assumed from the online photos and their proximity to the gulf coast they would serve Florida Grouper. Anyway, go and enjoy the fried items read more

I have been to this place three time. I can finally give them a good review. I always like this place when I come to Chipley. I always come to Bonifay which is 8 miles out for the hotel. The restaurant is actually located there. You will not believe that the inland 1 hour drive from the shore and they have good seafood. Their best seller is the fried shrimp. This shrimp is butterfly slice open and batter with flour or scampi. You can order 6, 9, or 12. It come with a choice of garlic bread or hush puppies. It also come with one side. The amount of food given is decent. This visit the flour stick too much and the coating is thick. My previous experience is better. Next time I will try their scampi. It is difficult to get a table. They normally full. So go early. They only open from Wednesday to Saturday. So remember this date. read more

Eat here! If we lived near here we would eat here extremely often! Last night hubs had a shrimp cocktail and then a big bowl of homemade jambalaya. He was in heaven. I had crab claw tips sauted in garlic butter with sides of cheesy grits and a cup of homemade taco soup. It was delicious. It was so good in fact we went back today so I could have a bowl of the taco soup for lunch.
