The shop is very well organized, toys are well kept and wrapped nicely together, and there were a lot of luxury brand clothing, gently used. They coin themselves they are West Hartford's finest children's consignment shop. The pricing was fair for most items (toys, decor, etc), but clothing seemed a bit high. They do have a rewards/loyalty program which I signed up for--I got 10% off my first purchase AND $5 off. Also, if you are local or close by they have 10% off Tuesdays. The young ladies that rang us up were very nice. I'd likely visit again since the shop is very clean. A lot of second hand children shops are cluttered, disorganized, and have a strange smell. I do love Max & Lily's Closet's mission to go green and reuse.

Unlike The Christmas Tree Shop that I think of as offering cheaper items and being great for getting little things, Big Lots has a great and pretty extensive selection of everything from non-perishable food to household items to furniture. Definitely get a loyalty card with them and then wait for their "20% off everything in the store for members" weekend to get everything you need. They sometimes email out coupons that are an even steeper discount, like $15 off $45, but those are less convenient because you have to buy a certain amount. The coupons come frequently enough that there's no need to shop there inbetween, and the discounts can even be used on big purchases like furniture. The things I typically get here are a mixed bag, but my regular items are generally food-related and include: canned corn, Beanitos (tortilla chips made out of beans), Terra chips (normally super expensive but healthy brand of various kinds of vegetable chips), organic tea bags, and Bob's Red Mill products. Staff are friendly and pleasant to interact with--definitely recommend this location over the Manchester store. This review is four stars because they tend to have only one register open, which means generally a longer than usual wait time to check out. Also they don't accept coupons, which I use frequently.

The workers are awesome too, they'll stop and chat, give you some tips and ideas... they're always very reactive to lines at the register, and they really just have it together. We'll be attending a Charity Banquet and Ball in a few weeks, and she was looking for a dress to wear. She found a beauty - a nice red Calvin Klein dress stickered at $134 but tagged at just $49.97. That's 62% off. Customer service was great. When we went to the register to pay, we saw a minor stitching defect at the back of the dress. Our cashier arranged for a runner to head back to the rack with us and we found the exact same dress in perfect condition. No complaints at all.

Curtains are a strange thing to buy. I'm still not really sure where to buy them, aside from Marshalls and Macy's, I guess. And of course, Joey's Shopping Spree. They have more curtains under one roof than I have ever seen in my life put together. You really have to look to find something good, but it's totally worth it. $25 for insulated and lined curtains for a slider... yeah I'm okay with that! If you're a college student or grad and don't have a ton of money for furnishings, this is the place to go. Do some digging and find some shopping gold!
