Messy with numerous unmarked boxes of random comics;who wants to deal with that? Good assortment of trading cards and collectibles, however.

A few weeks ago I was back in the nutmeg and when I realized I was in the area, I made it a point to check this shop out once again. Strange enough, I now live in Los Angeles so I frequent the SoCal locations when I can and was stoked to see what this one had to offer. This shop has some arcade machines in the front, a very solid movie selection, retro toys for sale, and of course, a bunch of retro video games, accessories, and consoles to pick up if thats what you need. My current "looking for" list is pretty much just Gamecube games and Criterion Blu Rays, so I was super stoked to stumble across a copy of The Graduate when I didn't see any Gamecube games I was looking for. Like all retro stores, prices here can vary and can sometimes be good and sometimes be bad, things were pretty reasonably prices on this trip and I left a happy camper. Overall, Retro Games Plus is one of the better game stores in Connecticut and thanks to Game Exchange becoming a slop factory, definitely the best in this area. The staff here is knowledgable, the selection is great, and even if you can't find a game, you are sure to find something else when you stop by.

They also sell shirts mimicking nostalgia. They even have arcades that are blast from the past that patrons come to play classic games on. Arthur is a good guy. They may not have many video games from some video game consoles to sell but they have everything. They do have cool GameCube controllers here. Movies are really pricey though. They don't have too many kids films but those shelves are filled with mainly feature films for everyone of all ages. I like Retro Junk in Manchester better just because they have some really cool stuff that I think are eye appealing and are fun to browse there plus DVDs are somewhat cheaper there.

"Constantly asked for exceptions to store policies" is a load of crap and you know it. Don't lie, Dan. I was never anything but a loyal customer. If you want to air out grievances here on this public forum, I can gladly do so. Why don't you talk about how miserable you are and how it reflects in your customer service? A few other reviewers seem to have the same thoughts about that. When someone walks in the door it's a toss up if you'll get Harvey or Two-Face. Most of the time it's the latter. Or should we discuss how you put RFK Jr. campaign flyers in your customers' bags and then badger them about his policies? Or how a simple question about moving turns into a political debate with you? How about how you allow a gaggle of idiots to stand around your store cursing while children are present as you laugh along? And the only reason you stopped was because your wife said something to you? Would you like me to continue?

I must have driven by Dan's shop a million times until I finally stopped by back in March. I hadn't…read morecollected comic books since I was a kid and I never had enough money to be that serious about it all those years ago. So when this middle-aged dad finally ended up in the store I wasn't sure what to expect from Boom Tube Comics. I knew bits and pieces from a lot of pop culture and just my own casual interest over the years, but still, I thought trying to get back into comic books would be confusing and intimidating. I'm happy to say that it turned out to be exactly the opposite. Dan has created the kind of comic shop in Boom Tube Comics that I think every fan or collector hopes to find. From my very first visit, he made me feel welcome, never talked down to me, and was incredibly patient in explaining how comics and his store works. He's a wealth of information too, from subscriptions and FOC dates, to special series, blind bags, conventions, etc. No matter what your level of knowledge is, he meets you where you are and seems to genuinely enjoy helping people learn more about the hobby. Dan's always happy to talk about local artists, comic book history, recommend an interesting/popular book, point out books you might otherwise overlook, and even suggest trustworthy online resources if you want to learn more about collecting or comic history. You never feel rushed, pressured, or like you're asking a "dumb" question. The man has patience for miles! On top of that, Dan has a terrific sense of humor that makes every visit enjoyable. It's the kind of place where you stop in for a few books and end up spending extra time just talking comics or cracking jokes and getting sucked into whatever is piquing your interest that week. His prices are fair for key issues and incentive covers, his customer service is exceptional (Shout out to his wife Karen, appreciate all you do too!). If you're hunting for an older issue, he's happy to check his back catalog to see if he has it. Subscribers are treated like royalty, he bags and boards books, slaps a discount on for you, and goes out of his way to make sure subscribers receive the best copies. He has a lot of gratitude for his regular customers/subscribers and it really shows that he wants them to have a premium, yet still classic, comic shop experience. The shop also has an excellent selection of toys, collectibles, and nostalgic items that make browsing as much fun as shopping. This a great TOY STORE TOO! I wasn't sure about diving back into comics in some ways, but Dan made it super easy and fun. If you're a longtime collector, someone returning to the hobby like me, a complete beginner, it doesn't matter. I truly can't recommend Boom Tube Comics highly enough. It's a fantastic local shop run by someone who truly loves comics and genuinely cares about the people who walk through the door. Support our local businesses! I should've stopped at Dan's shop the very first time I drove past it, DON'T make the same mistake I did.

If I could give Birdie's at the Barn more than five stars, I absolutely would!…read more Finding this shop online was one of those happy accidents that turned into discovering a small business I know I'll continue supporting for a long time. I originally came across Birdie's while searching for something special for my kids, but it didn't take long before I realized they have just as many amazing finds for Mom too. Needless to say, my shopping cart grew pretty quickly! I'm shopping all the way from Texas, and although I've never had the chance to walk through their doors in person, they have treated me with the same warmth and personal attention I would expect if I were a longtime local customer. That really stood out to me. The customer service has been exceptional. They are kind, responsive, accommodating, and genuinely appreciative of their customers. Nothing about the experience feels transactional. You can tell there are real people behind this business who care deeply about their shop, the products they carry, and the people choosing to support them. I LOVE supporting small businesses, and this is exactly why. Birdie's at the Barn offers something a big-box store simply can't replicate: personality, thoughtfully selected products, genuine kindness, and customer service that makes you feel valued. Their selection is incredible too. I love finding unique things for my kids that I don't see everywhere else, while also being able to find beautiful and fun things for myself. It's officially become one of those shops I'll be checking regularly to see what they get in next! It says a lot about a business when someone hundreds of miles away can discover them online and walk away feeling this strongly about the experience. Birdie's at the Barn didn't just gain another online order--they gained a loyal customer in Texas. To everyone behind this wonderful small business: keep doing what you're doing. The care you put into your shop absolutely shows, even from states away. I'm so thankful I found you, and I cannot recommend Birdie's at the Barn enough. very well-deserved stars!
