Their staff is hospitable and knowledgeable. Located on Main Street across from the Chamber of Commerce and down the street from the theatre it is a social hub for all ages downtown. There is a separately operated coffee counter and sandwich shop within what used to be an old time department store. The owners have retained the charm of that interior. Now that the downtown paving is nearly complete it's easy to find parking on the streets of Wilmington.

There also is a second floor which may be dedicated to a children's area; not positive as I didn't go up there. I am always on the lookout for old books as in 70-plus years, but not a whole lot in that department here as far as sorted items. There was a big stack of aged books but not catalogued. Believe me, I would have gladly pulled up a stool and reviewed the entire stack but as is often the case, the impatient husband was waiting in the car so I couldn't prolong my visit. I did grab a great sci-fi classic by Isaac Asimov; the book is pretty beat up but one dollar! Also spotted a tote bag featuring cats and books so that went home with me for sure. There are places to sit if you want to chill and read for a while. The lady behind the counter indicated that I could contact them for any old books I am searching for. Happy that they have Sunday hours and looking forward to a future visit.

The selection is great. And the organization is honestly amazing for a used bookstore. I love pretty close, so this is a dangerous discovery. Can't get over the prices! My only qualms with the store come from the service; the woman checking us out was wildly unfriendly.

One offered to come to my house/town for lessons because I was commuting (I declined) and continued to offer this accommodation that I never asked for. When I was to have surgery, I informed my voice instructor, Bekah, that I wanted to resume lessons as soon as possible thereafter. She encouraged me to take as much time off as needed, but when I needed more time, she abruptly canceled our lessons. Since developing talent thrives in an atmosphere of support and encouragement, it's unsettling that an instructor would, on one hand, tell you you have potential, and then turn around and capriciously drop you as a student without advising you of a cancellation policy. (There was none.). Hopefully they will retain better instructors in the future as music and the arts are so very important.

We had to go check out the legend of a massive warehouse of books hidden inside a deceptively industrial area. The entrance and parking lot for Dollar Book Swap are located in the back of the warehouse block they are in, and there are two ways to access the back. One "road" if one shall loosely call it that, is gravely and filled with massive potholes making for an adventurous ride. The road on the other side of the building also gets you to the same place... but it's paved and in good condition... choose your own adventure! Then it's through a door that opens up into... a massive warehouse space. Keep going and then you'll see them. Books. Everywhere. Shelves, giant boxes, display areas, library carts.... all full of books. There is also a DVD section. Smaller rooms open up off of the spaces, one with children's books, another a mystery/suspense room with, fittingly, a taped outline on the floor. There's even a corner space with food items. The vast majority of books are $1.25, with some exceptions, like the step into reading style books 2 for $1.25 or the bags of children's books you can fill for $10 a bag. The selection is a mix of new and used, and as one might expect, it just depends on what they have in stock at the time of your visit. It's a fun adventure to comb the shelves. Check all the nooks and crannies... there's a "book cave" in another corner. Service was friendly and efficient to check out. Fun place to explore if you're in the area.

I'm glad to be able to find my way out of the wilderness, to find a working Barnes & Noble, especially since Borders/Waldenbooks went away. My visit went very smoothly today and the store was next to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and close to a number of other stores, so it was extremely convenient. Guessing the layout of the store is the only real surprise. They had two magazines I wanted and I was able to avoid the stinky coffee area, which was wonderful. Checkout was ever so quick and smooth. Prices are not discounted but they/we have to pay for all the people using their store as a library.
