You had me at "S'mores" --Talk about nostalgia! Ok, let's start from the beginning! From the moment we arrived at Olmsted, we knew we would be in good hands. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The railroad-style intimate restaurant boasts a lively ambiance in a yet intimate setting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were seated right in front of the action, where the modest yet mighty kitchen quickly sent out some of the tastiest, innovative, and well-crafted dishes, along with refreshing cocktails to match. We got to meet the chef/owner, who was on site himself, bringing his creations to life along with his team of chefs -- it reminded me a bit of the show "The Bear," which, if you haven't yet seen, is worth checking out! For cocktails, we had the Snap Pee--a gin-based drink that was creamy, velvety, and refreshing, making it the perfect summer drink to indulge in on a hot summer day. We had the Rhubarb -- a vodka and bourbon fusion cocktail, and the Carrot -- a mezcal, carrot, and lime blend -- that prepared us for the dishes to come. All the cocktails were delicious and refreshing, so you can't go wrong here! They also have a fantastic wine menu. I loved how the food menu was divided into three sections: Snacks, Appetizers, and Mains. We tried a few dishes from each section. For snacks, we had Sourdough Bread accompanied by a green garlic hollandaise sauce. The sauce was rich and creamy, with tangy flavors that lingered in your taste buds --my favorite! We also tried the Chicken Liver Mousse, which, to my surprise, came with a side of pickled green strawberries. I had never had pickled strawberries before, so this was an unexpected and surprising treat! The strawberries tasted like pickles, and the mousse was light and airy. The combo provided just enough acidity and balance to the dish. From the appetizer section, we had the Kale and Crab Rangoon and the Summer Squash Som Tom. Both appetizers were delicious in very different ways. The Kale and Crab Rangoon was crunchy yet fluffy, and the crab melted in your mouth in a dream-like, savory way, while the Summer Squash Som Tom felt very light and refreshing, featuring shaved zucchini, herbs, and a fantastic Thai vinaigrette. The Cauliflower Okonomiyaki is also worth a try! The warm dish reminded me of the Spanish tortas my mother used to make on Sunday mornings. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had an amazing dinner, but my favorite part was dessert! We opted for the S'mores, and to our surprise, we were led to a lovely patio area at the back of the restaurant, where we sat alfresco with a mini roasting pit, a bar of Hershey's chocolate, and marshmallows.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The setting was the perfect way to end our Brooklyn adventures as we DIY'ed our S'mores under a canopy of Brooklyn stars.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
Sat at the Chef's table for the Tasting Menu at Olmsted. An amazing meal while watching three talented chefs feed a whole restaurant on a busy Saturday night. The menu was 89 dollars and quite a good value for the quality of food and service. Small bites included, Tempura Broccolini with the most amazing sauce, Falafel with "whipped honey" and a liver pate take on a bahn mi sandwich. Don't miss the monk fish or the rutabaga tagliatelle! Service and atmosphere was great!
Olmsted was one of the best meals I've had all year. From the super unique Carrot crepe, to the *incredible* Grilled NY Chicken. Every menu item from the snacks to the entrees/dessert, was incredibly delicious and unique. Our server was incredible and gave the best recommendations. 10/10 experience, can't wait to return!
I've been thinking about this meal since I left. If you're into seasonal, farm-to-table restaurants that actually deliver on flavor and not just vibes, you're in for a treat. The fluke crudo was insanely fresh and bursting with citrus and herbs--like the ocean and a garden had a baby. The chicken liver mousse pâté was so rich and velvety I may have embarrassed myself scraping the last bit out. Total sleeper hit? The cauliflower okonomiyaki--so delicate and packed with umami, it blew us away. The summer squash som-tom salad was also amazing--cool, tangy, and refreshing in the best way. We nearly skipped dessert but went for the chocolate mousse at the last minute, and it was like eating a cloud made of chocolate dreams. Their cocktails are next-level, and the service was just as impressive--Kevin was attentive, warm, and made the whole experience even better. Can't wait to go back!
Olmsted had been on my list since I first read about it in Condé Nast Traveler so I was excited for my first venture into Brooklyn as I usually spend time in Manhattan. I was well on my way until I got on the wrong train and realized to my dismay that I was going to be 45 minutes late! I tried calling the restaurant but was directed to email them which further stressed me out because I assumed I would have to make alternate plans. As soon as I entered, I apologized profusely to Michaela and she calmed me down immediately be explaining that even seasoned New Yorkers sometimes get on the wrong train. She did everything she could and secured me a seat at the bar. I was so grateful! As soon as I sat down, Mark, the bartender laughed and joked with me about my experience and soon after I was greeted by my waiter Greg, who was fantastic and by the end of the night, I was just in awe of the hospitality of the entire staff. The ambiance was warm and inviting and the curated playlist with artists ranging from Amy Winehouse to Corrine Bailey Rae and Outkast, created an invigorating and lively atmosphere. For drinks, I started with The Fennel which was really good, but the showstopper was Greg's creation which will soon be featured, "The Cucumber". It was fire and aesthetically pleasing! I like that you have an option for either the a la carte menu or the tasting menu and I chose the tasting menu and added on the pumpkin kouign-amann. The dishes were all delicious except I was not too crazy about the rutabaga tagliatelle. Olmsted is truly a neighborhood gem and not to be overlooked.
I think it's a 3.5/5, New American that's a bit of a hit or miss situation. Carrot crepe and the squid ceviche are delicious. Thick-cut bacon cheese burger is well executed, but the key ingredient, beef patty, doesn't taste like high quality beef. I thought the pasta dish was real pasta with some decorative root vegetables, my bad, but the richness of cheese and truffle went wasted on those ribbon shaped rutabaga imo. Grilled monk fish was small in portion and the sauce was weird. Falafel w/ whipped honey was decent, even for someone who doesn't like falafel. I wish we had some bread to dip the remaining whipped honey with. Chocolate tart and banh mi were unmemorable. Wine list looks meh. We didn't order any of the cocktails although judging by the menu, some options look very clever and interesting. Service staff were kind and friendly, so four star.

The service was actually below average, they took our menu cards too soon, the server was not very interested to discuss any food/drink on the menu either.The sequence and menu was also a little off, and I left the place a little hungry as well. I can see why this restaurant has lost its Michelin star.
We had the BEST meal at Olmsted. Alex was a fantastic server from start to finish & helped us course out our experience in a way that checked every box. It's evident how the crew here cares a lot about culinary integrity & I loved the creativity and seasonality of the dishes. Will definitely be coming back!

My boyfriend and i had the chance to try this restaurant recommended by our friend who was impressed with their grilled chicken 3 way. We tried it, pulled chicken was salty for us, grilled chicken was juicy but a tad bit bland, and fried chicken was crunchy but das it. The broccoli rabe on top was super yummy tho I'm glad they added that. We ordered scallops as well, that was our favorite, it came with corn and they were sweet and crunchy juicy with a blueberry sauce paired well w this yellow sauce as well. The scallops had serrano peppers on top which I love the lil heat of. Kale crab rangoon was just ok!! a bit let down, lots of cream cheese flavor and powered over the crab but the crab essence came thru at the end of the bite. The chocolate mousse was super delicious and I'm not the chocolate ice cream kind of person, it shocked myself. We came here during their anniversary special, where all prices are capped and they only serve bangers. I came in with not much expectation but was blown out of the water! Olmsted really knows how to make flavors pop with their sauces and spreads. The crudo oil was delicious. The scallops are bountiful. Most impressive was the tagliatelle made of squash. For our group of 5, 10 dishes was more than enough. I would love to come back to have the same things again and more. read more

Dined here last week and it was just incredible. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant had a great energy to it without being too loud.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat right at the chef's table area, with a view of everyone working in the kitchen. Was very cool to see such a well oiled machine at work.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They're currently celebrating their 9 year anniversary, and I learned they've brought back their greatest hits from 9 years of service. They also have pre-pandemic pricing for all their items on the menu, which makes the dishes here an absolute steal. We had a cauliflower okonomiyaki with hazelnuts and a yuzu mayo. This is from their other past concept Maison Yaki. My wife is not a sauce person and she absolutely loved this. We also got these delicious kale & crab rangoons with a sweet and sour sauce, and a summer squash som tom with fried shallot and a Thai vinaigrette. It was a warm night that evening so that Thai salad was extra refreshing. We finished with a rutabaga tagliatelle that was so incredible, I couldn't believe it wasn't a grain pasta, and a Pasilla rubbed scallop dish with a blueberry puree and roasted corn that I honestly wanted to get seconds of. Alex was our server that evening and he was so knowledgeable and pleasant and I'm so very glad he took such good care of us. Kevin, the bartender made some excellent suggestions for us and I tried the Snap Pea cocktail and the Carrot cocktail, which I highly recommend. Wow! I had such an incredible time having dinner at Olmsted. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was sat at the bar where I could watch the kitchen prepare our foods and it was such a nice touch to my friend and I experience[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We tried a variety of dishes and loved all of them. Some standouts were the Fava bean falafel (I need the whipped calabrian honey in a jar), the carrot crepe and the rutabaga tagliatelle. Sooooo gooood!! The service was incredible Alex was very knowledgeable about the wines and helped us choose our cocktails which we loved! read more

Waited 4 years to experience one of the best meals of the year! The tension built up with every dish that came out, from drink, to amuse bouche to appetizer to our main! Incredibly inventive menu and presentation that left us wanting more. Our waitress Claire was wonderful! She turned our date night into an intimate soirée filled with a curated meal pulling from classics to new dishes. We had a spectacular meal! which reminded us why we started eating in this restaurant in 2016. Our daughter had her wedding rehearsal dinner in 2018. Time passes, but we hadn't been back in years. I came here to celebrate my sister's birthday last night, and she chose this restaurant because she had heard that it's a great restaurant, and after my experience, I realized that this is definitely true. Olmsted is a farm-to-table tapas restaurant and there were plenty of good options on the menu. We had a hard time deciding what we wanted because everything sounded really good, so we just ended up ordering everything. The food was great, and I loved everything but we got full really fast because everything on the menu was so good. After we had finished our meal, we were escorted to the garden area of the restaurant for dessert we ordered the froyo and the chocolate/corn dish and they were good. I originally thought the chocolate and corn combination would be too weird but it was pretty good. I have to say that the froyo was AMAZING! It was a lavender-flavored froyo with a honey-flavored marshmallow fluff topping. I am SO happy that I can eat dairy now because this was an amazing experience. The restaurant is also very accommodating towards dietary restrictions, which made it easy for my gluten intolerance and my dad's intolerance to certain spices. The restaurant was also really beautiful, and I recommend going to the bathroom with the long hallway because it feels like you're stepping into another world. It's so beautifully decorated. The garden is also really nice because there is a lot of space and they grow their own herbs. I also notice that they have three quails for some reason. I don't know why they had them there, but they were so cute! If you're thinking about coming here PLEASE, DO! I promise you will love it. read more

The service and staff are extremely friendly and so personable. They were very knowledgeable about the food and the drinks! I got the mezcal drink and it was yummy! Given the course size for the tasting menu, my friend and I opted Al carte and go the beef tongue and the mini crepes. Both appetizers weren't impressive so I didn't take photos and the crepes were mushy. The two entrees were the duck breast with complimentary heart and glizzard and the king crab dish. Both were good dishes but not wow! The backyard is definitely a sight to behold like a garden! I can definitely say this is a one and done place. read more

Having lived in NYC for over 20 years, my first meal at Olmsted was long overdue. And it was, without a doubt, one of my top ten meals in the city. Each course was a testament to culinary excellence. Three dishes in particular left an unforgettable impression: - **Cow Tongue Appetizer:** It's a rare skill to transform cow tongue into something as soft, buttery, and bursting with flavor as this. So delightful that even my 7-year-old was enamored. - **bread service** the bread we received was nothing short of extraordinary. It had this alluring sweet, buttery garlic touch. - **King Crab Over Rice with Pea Mint Foam:** the best crab dish I've ever had. The richness of the crab harmonized perfectly with the freshness of the minty peas. We concluded the meal with s'mores, accompanied by actual coals to toast them to perfection. The combination of crisp graham crackers, decadent dark chocolate, and gooey marshmallows was a delightful ending. Special shout-out to our waiter, Chris, who was warm, attentive, and exceptionally knowledgeable in guiding us through our dining experience. read more
This place has inventive food, good service and a nice atmosphere. Server very helpful in identifying types of allergens in each dish. She also recommended the right amount of food for the 4 of us to order. All the dishes were either delicious and creative or, at worst, solid. Many served in artful ways. Fresh plates and utensils brought midway through. Appreciated Bathroom grade: A+. When I want to stay in the bathroom, when I return to the table and talk about the good bathroom -- it deserves this grade. So I'm waiting for the bathroom-- a single-serve gender neutral-- and the server says if I don't want to wait there is another one, and gives me directions. I'm winding through a series of doors and then----- there's a magical hallway, like a woodland passage. And behind an unassuming door, a bathroom with magical Victorian wallpaper, Apothoke candle and terry towels. I visited the other bathroom before the end of the night. Though it didn't have a magical passageway, the decor was woodland- magical in its own way. read more

This is a really cute place for dinner. There is a garden seating that is outdoors but heated and semi-indoor. Beef tartare was much more seasoned and chewy than others I've had elsewhere. Still good just different. The pork collar was ok - was told would be crispy and there was indeed a slight crisp but maybe had my expectations built up for it because I expected it to be crispier. Probably the curry spatzle was our favorite dish. Really reminiscent of the spatzle I've had in Munich. Soft but chewable, and the curry flavor was light. The frozen yogurt is really good. I prefer that over the chocolate mousse. Would also not recommend having both of them at the same time since the yogurt is much sweeter than the mousse so it takes away from the flavor/overpowers. Overall would give the food 4 stars, but service was a little slow (we ordered everything aside from dessert from the beginning and each dish took a while to come, as well as the check) and I don't think I would come back too often since the food is a bit pricey for what you get, which dropped my rating to 3. I would give this place a shot if you haven't been here before and judge for yourself though! Worth trying! read more

Came here on a Friday night & managed to negotiate a bar seat for an hour for drinks and some apps. I think this spot serves fantastic and inventive cocktails & would love to keep coming back to sample their seasonal rotation. My partner had a white Negroni with a gin made from Montpelier VT. Really appreciate how the bartenders know their gin story & origin (apparently it's a distillery founded by a distiller and bee farmer) and they honored that origin in the cocktail they featured (with honey). The food presentation was great but don't think I'm so sold on them. I had a rutabaga tagliatelle and while the concept was great the flavor infusion was a bit lacking.
