I've lived in Olney around 40 years. My wife and I have been using this Montgomery County facility since it first opened. In short, we have a lot of experience at this aquatic center. Over the years, as management has come and gone, service and personalities have varied. Don't judge the place on just one visit. Personally, I love the deep water exercise classes. Even they can be variable because the classes are operated by a private, for profit, company. Pool rules surrounding these classes have varied over the years. I remember one year when deep water class participants were NOT allowed in the pool more than a few minutes before the start of class. This was based on the absurd idea that class members only paid for one hour in the pool DESPITE 99% being Montgomery County TAXPAYERS. CLEANLINESS, a major concern of all users, has also varied. Softball teams will use the locker rooms bringing in mud from outside...very difficult to chase after. Other times, cleanliness depends on the habits of humans and the diligence of the kids assigned to cleaning. One MAJOR complaint that has been consistent since opening and for which I have heard numerous DIFFERENT explanations. The water in the adult pool is frequently chilly to frankly cold. It is my understanding that the County saved money during construction by installing a single water heater when at least two are needed. I have also been told that the temperature is intentionally lowered to accommodate swim teams during their competition season. At least this is logical, although difficult for older people. Ironically, I've been told by other pool users that the Olney pool is the warmest of all the County aquatic centers! Like everything else, this facility must fit into a budget of numerous competing needs. Another reviewer complained of the user fees. If we all pay even higher taxes, fees can be eliminated. The aqua class is great. Just wish they didn't stop the.classes for a month. Ongoing classes at a public county pool would be great. Sometimes the water is a bit to cold for an indoor pool and at times the hottub is a bit to hot. But overall..great place!! read more

Eight lane indoor swimming facility, with varying amounts of lap swimming during the day. Well maintained, and friendly, laid-back staff. Only complaint is that there never seems to be enough as far as lap lanes go in the 7:00 hour, but otherwise, great facility. Membership gets access to all four Montgomery County indoor pools year round, and also all of the county outdoor pools during the summer, so you really get a lot of bang for your buck. read more

Went there yesterday with my two children for open swim. They charged $14 for three of us and did not tell us that all of the equipment was broken. When we went in, the slide, the buckets and the mushroom were all turned off. My kids wanted to leave after 30 minutes because they were bored. The pool looked like it needed a good cleaning too. I complained at the desk about charging full price when all the equipment was broken. The guy blew me off by saying he would tell management. I asked to speak to the manager and he said the manager wasn't there. This place is the biggest waste of money since the skate park. read more

I love the OSC! They are single handedly responsible for my semi strides swimming this year. As an adult non-swimmer, I tried out quite a few facilities, and options, when looking for classes. The YMCA was *ridiculously* expensive, the Takoma Park Swim Center was filled with incompetent and rude staff, and by the time I got to the OSC, I'd nearly given up hope. Thankfully however, my instructor was awesome, and what really has stuck with me has been the fantastic staff. Herb (the manager, I believe?) is regularly supervising the classes, and really takes the time to get to know the students, and recommends next steps and corrections as he sees fit. The facility itself is always clean, and the hydrotherapy pools are a fantastic way to end your day at the pool. I willingly drive to the OSC, despite it being further from my house, due to the amazing people that make up this facility - highly recommend going here for all your swim related needs. read more

This place is quite nice except, as some other reviewers have noted, the restroom/shower/locker areas could use some improvement. The showers (at least on the men's side) are the "no privacy" type, which is fine for those wearing swim trunks, but everytime i've gone, there's always someone you'd rather not see in the nude showering away happily... which is fine, as you're required to shower off before entering the swim facility to begin with, and i'd rather not share a body of water with someone of questionable hygiene anyway. ;) The pool(s) are BIG, and there are two hot tubs (hydrotherapy pools) and a shallow-ish rec area where you can bring the kids to play around under the groovy, shroom-shaped waterfall and such. There is a diving well, but make sure to check the schedule ahead of time, because it is only open when supervised, and the hours vary.. There is a high springboard (not platform), and two lower ones. The lap lane area is large, and overall, I'd say the water quality in all areas is good. I typically see a lifeguard running FAS-DPD's frequently, and having worked in the water quality business for some time, I can tell you this is a good thing. Too often in facilities like these, staff rely on readings from the automated water quality maintenance equipment, which can be inaccurate for myriad reasons. The sauna is a great way to begin and end your rec or lap sessions, many times i am able to have it all to myself, although i don't mind sharing sauna with anyone. Ask any Finn, sauna is the key to health and life. ;) Overall, this is a great facility, with a few areas that could use improvement. Luckily, if you bring a pair of shower shoes, you can easily negate certain of those issues. I've read the other reviews, and can't say that I've ever had any issues with any of the staff. They are typically young, and in positions of responsibility for the first time, so who knows, maybe a few go on "power-trips". (Just speculating) Also, this is one of only three indoor facilities in the county that offers the senior swim therapy classes, I've recommended these to certain family members of mine. If you are a heavy user of this and other MoCo rec facilities, I'd definitely consider purchasing a pass, available in yearly, six month, and one month durations, with discounts for families, children, seniors, and of course, county residents. I would certainly recommend this facility to swimming enthusiasts of all skill levels and ages. Happy swimming! read more

Called before I drove over. The man over the phone was very short with me and seemed like he was annoyed with his job. I asked if the pool was open and if I needed to make reservations. He said the pool was open and there were no reservations required. I came with my two year old and when we walked in, he just stared at us without acknowledging our presence until I spoke up. He told us the pool wasn't open for children and dismissed us. Worst customer service. read more

I stopped by to get more information on this place. It was in a very nice, quiet and also easy to miss if you are not aware of the area. There was plenty of parking when I pulled up at 8am. They open to 6am so there was roughly 20 cars there already. I went to the front desk and met one staff member who was very nice. She pulled out some papers showing me the programs available, the pricing and schedules of the classes they have. It's a lot going on at this place in the neck of the woods. They do have a small weight room in the back that has no free weights. They do have a room for the sauna, a room with jacuzzis for hydro therapy. They have classes such as AquaLite, Water Aerobics, Aqua Cardio, and Deep Water Run which are all classes that is an additional fee. If you dont have a pass, the admission is anywhere from $5-$10 each time you visit. Yearly access passes range from $320-$775. Based on the comparison of other gyms or places that has a pool, it seems a little on the expensive side. I'm sure a lot of kids come here but all I saw in there were seniors. Not all seniors are well off but I guess if they are here every day than its affordable. It seems like a nice place. I will get a 12 admission pass and see how it goes. I'm gonna have to wait on getting an annual pass because I'm trying to save my money to buy a small island. LOL read more

There are a couple things that are out of place here: 01) I have noticed that the past two Managers are obsessed with me (constantly looking & thinking about me) for some unknown reason(s), one has coughed at me from behind, near me, & listening to my conversation that I had another employee at their Counter Desk- very inappropriate behavior. 02) They have changed existing Pool Rules that did not need to be changed at all, there was absolutely no corelation related at all that was connected to these changes at all in the first place (Well Deep Pool). There also has been evidence that a minimum of 3 regular customers have withdrawn their memberships (after 3 years) because of these unnecessary changes without any solid explanation provided that did indeed propose an undue hardship to these Member's water exercise routines. read more

Went to swim at 6:05 in the morning...5 minutes after they opened. Swim club already had all pool lanes full with a couple of people in each lane. The two employees at the entrance acted like I was an idiot for stating the pull was full. They said you can have five people per lane. That seems like a lot of people bumping into each other. I asked how often the swim club was there and they stated they are there every morning which tells me the pool is essentially closed for anyone else.....basically the public. read more

I went to this facility with my two kids and my sister and her kids. The lady at the front desk was very friendly. The locker rooms are a bit dirty and the bathrooms are dirty. The actual pools were great. My 3 year old son was able to stand and play around in the pool. There's a mushroom shaped sprinkler and two hot tubs and an 8-lane swimming pool. There were noodles and boogie boards but unfortunately they are for swim classes only. Okay here's where things got ugly. I left the pool with the boys and got into the sauna with them in the locker room. About 5 minutes later, a VERY RUDE and ABNOXIOUS life guard, whose name I found out later by asking her, is Daniela, swung open the door and pointed with 2 fingers to the 3 of us and in a very loud and nasty manner said, "You,you and you need to get out now!" I couldn't believe the way she spoke to us. This is supposed to be a family-friendly place and this is the way the staff behaves and treats the clientele. Unbelievable! I left the sauna and told Daniela, that that is no way to speak to me or my kids. Instead of apologizing, she pointed at a sign to the left of te sauna and said, "it says right there, look". I did not see the sign and I am more than happy to oblige with the rules, I explained. There is no reason to talk like that. I then asked her name and talked to management about the situation. My sister also has bad experiences with the staff here. Anyway, I hope this facility invests in training the staff on how to communicate with the customers because it was just a horrible experience and I don't want it to upset other families that expect to have an enjoyable experience. read more

This swim center is a reasonable size. They have five separate sections; a shallow pool for classes, a diving pool, a long pool for laps, a children's pool section and a hot tub. This pools in general are clean. They offer some classes in the county at selective centers that you can sign up for in advance. The memberships are pretty good deals if you are a huge swimmer. Only downfall is the changing room and bathrooms are plain awful. They are extremely dirty and I would never let my children walk around them barefoot. They really need to do a better job keeping the bathrooms clean. Especially for being Montgomery County - you know they can afford it. Additionally, the people at the desk aren't really happy to be there. They aren't very helpful. The fitness center is small and limited. Not one of my favorite centers to go to. read more

Went here with an infant and two young kids and it had something for each one of them. It had slides for the bigger kids and different levels of water that I could put the baby in, she was happy. Went there for the first time today. I like to lap swim and have been searching for a good pool to do so. Parking lot is big. Pool is big with two hot tubs that are nice. Pool is a little old as there are discolored marks on the pool floor but doesn't bother me much. Has a weight room that is mostly machines and is kinda small but still has it. $7 a visit unless you get a pass which saves you a buck or two each time. Kinda on the expensive side but isn't terrible. I plan on making this my go to place hopefully at least twice a week. I went around 2pm on a Tuesday and it wasn't that crowded. read more

This is the worst swim center I have ever used. My disabled son loves to swim, and I used to take him here a lot. The staff is rude, dictatorial, lazy, obnoxious, and openly discriminatory. On two occasions they openly discriminated against my son, including once when a little kid pooped in the pool and they assumed that my adult son had done it simply because he is disabled and directly accused him of such. When I reported this treatment to upper management, the first time they dismissed it completely, and the second time they didn't bother to return my call. On top of all this, they won't answer their phone, so it's impossible to know whether they have closed some or all of the pool for swim meets, etc. The last straw was last week when I drove my son all the way out there (only because the better pool I usually use now was closed) in rush hour because they wouldn't pick up the phone, to find the counter clerk crocheting--I guess that was more important than doing her job? The phone message was a week out of date as well. And low and behold--they were closing all pools in 30 minutes, so I drove over an hour total for absolutely nothing and disappointed my son in the process. DO NOT GO HERE. You deserve better. Go to Germantown Indoor Swim Center instead. They are much nicer and more professional there. read more

Don't join or go here. It has gone downhill very fast in just the last few months. It is dirty and new pool management staff are arrogant, rude, and dismissive. They even have installed new lap swim designated lane markers for certain types of swimmers (walkers, "universal" - whatever that is) and staff will kick you out if you're in the "wrong" lane. The money for the signs would be much better spent on cleaning the facility and keeping water temperature at a reasonably cool level rather than bone-chilling cold. This place has everything for any swimmer! You need to just take a look at the quality it has to offer. I have been here for 7 months now & for me, it is worth every penny of the annual investment! The annual investment also includes the Gym as well as other clubs that are run by the County, not just to mention of the quality of this one location by itself. I am a real fan of this place. This is one of the best kept secrets around. The staff are all nice. I have lived here for years and didn't know it was there till a few months ago. I have been there a half dozen times so far. Nothing like doing laps in a warm swimming pool in the middle of the winter for a break ! They have an exercise room with machines, 3 large pools with different depths (Definitely Me), diving boards (Not me!), several hot tubs and Saunas too (Also Me). Bring a Swim Suit and a gym bag and check it out. Get a discounted 12 Visit Pass for a good deal. I agree with Ihita as it definitely is cheaper than the Y ! Highly Recommended ! read more
