Went to Olympia Baking Co. yesterday for the first time yesterday and ate the best scones I have ever had in my 67-year life. You know how scones are usually rock hard and impossible to eat without dunking them into a cup of coffee? Well, no such problem here! These scones are moist and fluffy, and eating one is more like tucking into a souffle than wrestling with a scone! They really are remarkable. Had the bacon one first and followed up with a triple chocolate one. Honestly, they are just unreal. The French onion soup was also very nice. My friends had the beef bourguignon and split pea with ham, and I tasted both. In sum, EVERYTHING this chef cooks up is out of this world! GO THERE! read more

Disgusting place. loud music. No one there-- no service. I stood at the counter for several minutes. No one came out. Terrible stench of garlic and onion powder. I had to go home and wash the smell off of my clothes. This is not a baking company. It's some kind of front. They have creepy looking scones. That's all. What a waste of my time. read more

Perfection! The scones not only look amazing, they taste phenomenal! I was set on a poppy seed topped scone with frosting after seeing pictures but when I actually came in I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is a large variety! I got a berry filled scone with frosting and the frosting on top was so good! Soft, nicely whipped, and pretty sweet. It mixes perfectly with each bite of berry and was described as pie like. The scone itself is soft and moist and so I thought it was more cake like and I loved it! My husband ordered an apple cinnamon strudel and the frosting on top was a delicious hardened drizzle. The top is coated in cinnamon and brown sugar and reminded me of a muffin. It's really good but I loved the frosting on mine so much that I happily finished my giant scone and let him enjoy his. They're both perfect and gluten free! The woman at the counter was like a Disney princess. Super friendly and full of energy. All of the desserts she makes look amazing! read more

So amazing. I try to always stop if I'm traveling through Olympia. Have had the French onion soup, the fruit scones (both vegan and regular), and the pizza scone. Hmmmm....I think I've had others too, but can't recall all the flavors. I am never disappointed. The owner and baker is wonderful and has some great creative selections. I think he is so wise to have a nice small storefront with just a few tables. I was also really happy he let us take a pit stop and use his restroom on our drive to Canada. read more

Highly recommend!!!! This will be a new must go to stop when we pass through Olympia, quite honestly will probably drive from Tacoma just to a fix from time to time. I'm gluten free and it's hard to find bakery items that feel like you're not lacking flavor or texture. These were AMAZING. My husband who isn't gluten free absolutely loved it as well. Do yourself a favor and check them out. Owner was super friendly, informative and talented with these creations. read more

The delicious smell from this bakery hit us in the parking lot. We were there going somewhere else, didn't know the bakery was there. The owner greeted us and was very nice telling us his story and about the current available scones. We picked out two and that is when the shock came. It was $24.00 for two scones. The most I have ever paid for absolutely amazing scones is $6.00 each. There were no prices in the case, if there had been I would never had paid that much. They are good, not the best I've ever had, but good. Sadly this is just out of my price range so I will not be going back. If $12 isn't a big deal for someone then the scones are good. read more

What a great little place! I got the Pepperoni Pizza Scone, Pumpkin Pie Strudel Muffin, and the Marionberry and Blackberry Scone. Everything tasted pretty good. The strudel muffin was my favorite though! Amazing sugary top with icing, and a soft center with pumpkin swirled around. Once I started in on it, I couldn't stop and devoured it very quickly. It was amazing. The berry scone was decent, on the softer side compared to say, a fair scone, but it was still tasty. The flavor was fine, although the marionberry and blackberry filling didn't quite have that 'fresh' feel as I hoped it would. The pizza scone was yummy, it was soft and airy and had that subtle cheese flavor with the dry roasted tomatoes cooked inside but I definitely preferred the sweet treats here! If the pizza scone had lots of mini pepperoni's cooked inside, THAT would have been epic. Overall still delicious and worth the stop. I'd recommend getting their Pumpkin Pie Strudel Muffin, or any kind of strudel on their menu. It was phenomenal! read more

Friends recommended so even though I'm not gluten free or vegan, I like gluten free and vegan baked goods and so I was excited to try it. The biggest positive was the great service! I ordered a gluten free, vegan chocolate chip pumpkin scone, but I could only take a couple bites. I really wanted to like it especially since it cost nearly $7 for one scone. I can't figure out if it was the dough or a fake sweetener, but I really disliked the taste. I also had a gluten free chocolate chip cookie and it was just okay. I think this place may really work for people with restrictive diets but it wasn't for me. read more

This is one of the very best bakeries I've been to. The scones are almost like an experience all their own. They are, by far, the best tasting things I've ever had. We were driving through Olympia and decided to stop by this gluten free bakery. So glad we did, as it didn't disappoint. We stopped on a Saturday morning and was greeted by the owner, who was very friendly. We ordered 3 scones. Our favorite was the pepperoni pizza scone. The berry-filled scones were tasty, but very sweet. Can't wait to visit Olympia again, as we will ensure to stop by this place again. read more

This place was so good. I regretted not buying more. This was the first time I visited the bakery. It just feels so good to be able to order anything in the menu. The place smelled amazing. I had the bacon, cheddar, and green onion biscuit, which was great. It's probably my favorite. Then I had the bacon, bourbon muffin, and the pecan pie/cake were delicious. To note ahead of time, I am not a gluten free or vegan individual. My friend and I stopped by for some scones to enjoy. We were informed the scones were gluten free and that did not deterr us. She got a lemon poppyseed scone filled with strawberry jam and I got a chocolate chip scone filled with raspberry jam. When I picked this out he said he was out of the "normal" ones but still had vegan ones available so I had that. WOW. It was truly one of the best scones I'd ever had, vegan and all. We were going to stop by today for more before we went home (we are from out of town) but he is closed on Sundays. Dang it! I'm gluten free and my girlfriend is gluten- and dairy-free. It's difficult finding great bakeries but Olympia Baking is the best we've found so far. I had the chocolate chip raspberry scone and she had the vegan marionberry blackberry scone. I actually preferred hers to mine (those marionberries were hard to look away from) but both were perfectly flakey and tasty. The owner is super nice and even opened up early for me (I didn't check the hours before heading over), definitely appreciated how awesome he was about it. read more

Willis is kind hearted and makes delicious treats. The whole store is gluten free and he makes vegan delights as well! We discovered this hidden gem during the pandemic (we were passing scones through a window) and now the lobby has opened up again. Ask Willis about legos if you'd like to make him smile. read more

They offer excellent gluten free food. We had French Onion Soup and Lemon Blueberry Scones. The people are Super Nice. I do find the food on the higher side. I think the going rate for a cup of soup is $6.00. Their soup is almost $12. The scones are $7.49. With the tip, it was $48. To me that seems high. We only go on special occasions. read more

Right in the heart of residential South Capital neighborhood, next to the McCleary Mansion in an old dentist office space--weird, but still oddly-effective, outdoor ordering system through a tilted window. Not sure why the inside space is still closed--maybe COVID-19 precautions (which we respect) or low staffing. Seems like the new owner is currently doing it all by himself...SO fresh and tasty with fruity or savory fillings--too much sweet frosting for me, but easy to scrape some off. The Olympia Baking Company is a much needed addition the Olympia food scene. The bakery is completely gluten free, and has a large selection of vegan options as well! My wife and I tried a cheddar-chive scone, as well as a lemon cupcake and a raspberry-coconut cupcake. Every bite was delicious and packed full of flavor, and the cupcakes were perfectly moist. Willis Maxfield, who was a chef at Gardner's Seafood & Pasta, is the new proprietor. "Chef Willis" made the experience even better with his friendly and welcoming demeanor, and his obvious passion for providing delicious gluten-free food to his patrons. He said that starting next week he would expand the menu to include homemade soups, and mentioned that pumpkin curry coconut soup would be one of the first options available. The food at Baking Company is amazing and the fact that it is all gluten-free, makes it even better! read more
