We found this place at the Olympia Farmer market and saw a long line so I had to check it out. The wait was about 10-15 minutes. They had a variety of items from cookies to croissants to bread. I ordered: Ham and cheese croissant - standard Brioche roll - decent Croissant fritter - the highlight of this bakery - it is soooo good. Flakey, pull apart, flavorful. Price was reasonable as well. There was only one person working so that's probably why it takes some time. It looks like they have a restaurant here as well and I heard it gets crowded too. My husband's quiche was so flavorful with a delicious crust. Service was also really good, friendly and brought us our food once it was warmed and ready to go. Every time I come visit my friend we ABSOLUTELY have to come to The Bread Peddler. The Spinach/Bacon Quiche is to die for...Apple Fritter is AMAZING, and The Dirty Chai was THE BEST!!!!! The front staff are so sweet and accommodating. But.....our experience today gets a 2 star on service bc Becka was UNBELIEVABLY RUDE!!!! She was running around crazy, sarcastic/rude with not only us, but anyone that she engaged with. Customer service isn't for everyone...and that's ok. Good bread, great pastries. Service is a little chilly, but, every time I've been in there, they had long lines. The ganache tart is divine. I was a little disappointed with the apple tart, because there were only sliced apples on top, under that, it was filled with like a rustic apple sauce; not what I was expecting. the worst bakery experience in many moons... arrived at around 1245ish... from the Farmers Market... well before closing hour if 2pm... no soup, only two sandwiches... none of the pastries advertised in their website are available... young person (don't want to misgender/pronouns) said they were slammed and can make hot pressed sandwiches (can't spell pannini) ordered the two remaining beef sandwiches from the case and two hot... took forever to get the sandwiches and while waiting, there were no water in the dispenser... the staff clearly did not work together and one can clearly see frustrations and reflected attitude towards customer service... my out of town friends brought a broich bun and a lofe of japanese bread and both were hard and stale like... maybe it is the style... maybe just bad bread... for sure will not be back... also will not recommend ... my friend who got the bread said the person who took our order was sweet and tip (him?) nicely... saw "him" and another person leaving at the time were were finishing our sandwiches... left prior to closing ... guessing part of the reason the drawdown like service and availability of food... the were already closing at 1230 read more

We went to this establishment after parking in the public lot right next to the Bread Peddler, excited about our first visit to Olympia and after seeing the food the patrons were eating through the window...looked amazing! It took about a minute to sour our first impressions of Olympia and this restaurant due to the gentleman taking the orders at the counter. This person did not smile once, seemed perturbed that we were deciding what to order, never having been there (it took about two minutes), and seemed utterly bothered, inconvenienced, and flat out rude at the very prospect of having to "deal" with people. He had long hair with bleached or colored ends and a goatee with a nose ring, my tribe and normally open minded, wonderful, and joyful types if I had to stereotype which I don't normally do. I only mention this as nobody had on name tags and it's important the owner know who I'm referring to. The place was charming and the food was excellent. But having been a server for 15 years and a restaurant manager (front of house, service manager) for 15 years, I can tell you, a manager places their smiling faces and warm personalities at the front. And if you're having a bad day and you can't control your mood, you fake your warmth and happiness until your mood passes, with customer interaction often being the catalyst for you bad mood passing. And again, if you can't control your mood, then you don't belong in this business. This guy (sorry, I did not ask about his preferred pronouns) does not belong anywhere near the front, he should be kept as far back in the restaurant as possible! Customer service is often hit or miss. Often slow causing a long wait. Also, the younger male (don't know his name) at the register has a weird passive aggressive attitude issue. When you finally get a chance to order, you are often told they are out of bread and other items. Was going to sing their praises because I heard they provide the awesome pastries at Samayra Coffee, but it doesn't matter how delicious your breads are, if you give me an allergic reaction then you get no stars. My friend waited in the long line to get pastries while I paid the meter. All he could get was a chocolate chip cookie since they ran out of pretty much everything else. I bite into the cookie and my mouth waters and I taste blood. Itchiness runs down my throat and up to my ear. It's clear there's cross contamination. My friend didn't know about my allergy so it didn't cross his mind when he saw them use the same tongs to serve out the cookies, so crumbs from the peanut butter cookies got on the chocolate chip ones. Had to leave immediately to get my inhaler and head to the ER. I'm not one of those people who likes to complain about petty things at restaurants, but in this day and age they should know better. Wish I could give a zero star. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. I am in the service industry and I'm appalled on how I was treated. The Server never asked me if I wanted my breakfast sandwich heated and when I asked, she refused to heat it up. I asked her again and she proceeded to tell me that I should've read the sign and then threw my sandwich on the counter and said "fine I'll just get you a new one". Took over 5 minutes and it wasn't even heated up. It was still cold on the inside. There are signs but the place is disorganized with writing and they were pressuring us to move and get out. I love their Pain au Levain. It's a fabulous sourdough with a bit of whole wheat in it. Their service can be a bit slow if they're busy, but they're always friendly and helpful. It's clean and light and airy. They've also a spot in the Farmers Market and their breads can be found in a few local supermarkets. They often sell out and you can try the two local food coops and even Olympia Seafoods carries their baguettes. They also have cookies and other baked goods. I highly recommend the breads, but do not recommend any of the croissants or kouign amann at all. They are overly greasy and not a true croissant, especially if you warm it up the next day. I had a pleasure of staying at a hotel walking distance to the Olympia Farmer's Market & to the Bread Peddler bakery & Cafe. After waking by the other bakery & cafes in the area, this one takes the cake for sure! They have a great selection of baked goods with a variety of savory, sweet & buttery options. If you need a unique loaf of bread, they have a selection of that too! I purchased their: -8oz hot latte with soy milk which was made to perfection, the espresso was on the stronger side so balanced well with the Soymilk -Almond croissant: if you are the type that prefers your almond croissant with extra (emphasis on the extra) almond filling, this is your spot! This was so packed with sweet almond filling that I ate it throughout the day due to its sweetness so I recommend pairing with coffee -Apple fritter: as others have mentioned, this isn't your typical Apple fritter at the donut shop, this is more croissant than it is a donut. Between the almond croissant and the apple fritter, I personally liked this a lot better! Mostly because it's so unique & something that isn't offered at other bakeries. It had the perfect amount of sweetness for me, not too overwhelming. I also love that it pulls apart easily so it's great for sharing. Admittedly, I couldn't help myself but to purchase the Apple fritter two days in a row so if you're driving in the area, it's worth grabbing a few extras before they run out! Come early if you can on the weekends. Otherwise, if they sell out at the store; you may be able to snatch some at the Olympia Farmer's Market on Saturdays. I love their bread, specifically the Tres Semi (not sure how to spell that), but I believe it means "many seeds." I love grainy, seedy bread. This is my absolute favorite bread anywhere! BUT the last 2 times I bought a loaf, several of my bites had a pronounced moldy taste. My guess is that some of the seeds were moldy -- maybe not even visible in a giant batch of seeds that they purchased. The first loaf this happened with was worse than the 2nd one. I drove back to return the first loaf. They said they wash and dry their seeds, so it was impossible for any to be moldy. Well, I'm not imagining this -- most bites are amazing, and then suddenly, I have a bite with a strong (into my sinuses) taste of mold. I didn't buy another loaf for a couple months, but recently decided to give it another try, and, sure enough, the same thing happened, but not so bad that I returned it.
