This is the spiritual opposite of the hurly-burly chaos of the Pike Place Market. Located on a former brownfield site owned by Unocal, it's been transformed into a serene, sloping patch of land, about three acres, that hugs the northern end of Seattle's seawall. Peppering the open space is an impressive series of art objects, some gigantic and eye-catching, others that intentionally melt into the landscape. The flagship piece is Alexander Calder's "Eagle", an orange 39-foot tall structure somewhat resembling a spider (see photos). But you can also see a large typewriter eraser and glass panes of colorful clouds. Peaceful, meditative except for the occasional cell phone abuser. Even though it's equidistant from Pike Place and Seattle Center, it doesn't attract an onerous number of visitors, just the more discriminating who need to take a break from urban complexities (see photos to see some select pieces dotting the park). read more

One of the great urban parks in the U.S. complete with Puget Sound views, an outdoor Richard Serra sculpture, downtown views, and on a clear day, an incredible lookout to the Olympic Mountain Range. This is THE place to walk around before or after a visit to Pike Market, (its a hike, but not that far really) and the place we always take out of town guests to walk around and get a feel for the best Seattle has to offer. A meandering path leads over the traffic and to an extended walk along the waterfront. Best place to park is right underneath the main building, when parking is available. Costs the same as street parking (pretty much) and without the fear factor that you might be towed at rush hour, which unfortunately if you opt for street parking outside at the wrong time of day is a potential reality. In summertime, there is a great Thursday night venue with food trucks, families and free music in the grassy amphitheater (please consider adding a few more trucks per night to the mix next year, as those lines move slowly and the selection too limited) and wine and beer is available inside during these summer events for purchase. read more

Part of the Seattle Arts Museum (SAM for short), right outside of the museum. The Olympic Sculpture Park is free to the public and dogs on a leash are also welcomed (responsible owners should be sure to pick up after their pets). This park has quite a handful of different sculptures strategically located throughout the pathway of this park that ends (if you enter from the museum entrance at the top of the hill) at the bottom of the hill, on the shoreline. There were some interesting and odd sculptures throughout the path. There are also chairs with a nice view of the water and shore (which is a great place for an afternoon picnic). The path itself is mostly dirt but there are some grass in case you are walking with your 4 legged little friend(s). I am not really a huge art appreciative person (don't hate me) so I wasn't nearly as impressed with the sculptures. But happy for an afternoon walk with my family while we were visiting Seattle. Also appreciate that this is a free tourist attraction. By the way, be sure to check SAM's website for the Olympic Sculpture Park tours that are offered periodically (for a nominal fee that you can pay upon arrival). read more

Seattle was a true jewel the day I visited Olympic Sculpture Park. See the posted pictures. I was wandering the city and came across the park. Probably the best sights I saw all day. I had great views of the Sound and back toward the city. I like this park because it is not too crowded. You can sit and enjoy without others intruding. Interesting to see, but far from interactive or an experience you must do. Located by the pier, the Sculpture Park has the ocean on the horizon, which is great for that brisk weather and fresh air that you may seek. However, there's no rhyme or reason as to why the sculptures are scattered along the path. They kinda are just there or pop out on sloping hills, in the bushes or out in the open in plain view. It was interesting to see the massive structures, but from a non-artsy perspective, they're just big objects in the middle of a park. read more

What I was thinking in giving this place three stars? Must have been in a bad mood when I wrote it. I come here at least a couple times every year and the view is terrific. If you think of it as a museum, then you will be sorely disappointed. But as a park near the waterfront, this place is great. It is nice to come here when it is warm and sunny. But even better when it is a little cloudy and cooler (or windy). 70 degrees and a few clouds watching the action on Elliott Bay is the perfect leisure activity on a summer day. The park is located near the Space Needle and Seattle Center, so if you are visiting those attractions, a walk down the street to Olympic Sculpture Park is well worth it. read more

The Olympic Sculpture Park is my hands down favorite park in all of Seattle! I used to run here every morning rain or shine. It's about a 3 mile path for shared use between bicyclists, joggers, skateboarders, etc. between Lower Queen Anne and Pike's Place Market. The park has a beautiful view of the sound and is a great place to watch the sunrise or sunset. Some days you may see sailboats and the scenery is simply serene. There are two or three beach heads below the walking level that collect stray driftwood. Sometimes (not often) you'll see seals here. There are signs warning of fines for unleashed dogs in these areas but they are mostly ignored. My shepherd loved playing fetch here even in the winter. I highly recommend a weekend walk or even a picnic in this park. You'll see some very interesting large-scale art work near the pier. read more

We just happened to come across the park walking through town and after getting a much needed bathroom break (THANK YOU!) and donating some cash for the cause, we walked all through the gravel paths (which kept getting caught in my flip flops - but that's totally my fault - I mean, who else in the entire state wears flip flops in late October? This Florida girl does!), saw neat sculptures and read their descriptions... Although I felt like there were too many empty spaces between them, it was a cool little walk along the waterside with nice views of the bay while enjoying something interesting. read more

I went on a rainy and cold day so I didn't walk through the entire park to see all the sculptures. They are pretty spread out around this waterfront park and you can find maps in the building located at the entry. I don't think this is a "must see" in Seattle but it's ok the way to the space needle from pikes place if you are walking so we made a quick pit stop. I think there are 10 structures in this park but some are really small and scattered. I would say that the best thing about this place is their nice little onion seating area and coffee shop. Oh and their nice bathrooms lol. On a sunny day I can see this place being a beautiful picnic spot or a nice place to take an afternoon stroll. Too bad I can on a super rainy and windy day with dampened my appreciation for this free public art (pun intended). read more

Head outside for changing installations at the Olympic Sculpture Park. I came through while visiting the waterfront near downtown. It can be a bit hard to get to/access due to the large streets around the area. However it is a great park with lots of space. I enjoyed the huge art pieces and apparently they change out the art regularly. There were myriad plants of all different textures, colors and sizes that are planted in very artistic styles. These gardens and paths wind around each other and create many unique spaces, nooks and spots. Great for instagram shots for sure. The Olympic Sculpture Park is well-named with giant-sized gardens and art. read more

I agree with the reviewer who said this place is not really for tourists. It's a great place for locals to walk their dog or job through. We were on a lazy vacation in Seattle and decided to wander through one morning before other places in town opened. I liked some of the sculptures and I liked that the park was broken up and not enclosed by walls. The view of the city in one direction and the water the other way was perfect. My favorite sculptures of the park were the large curved pieces in the sand at the base of the outdoor theater. I liked their size and simplicity. The whole area is very peaceful. I also enjoyed the building at the top of the theater. We read that different exhibits are displayed there. When we visited, there was a lot of empty space. We did like the wall of waves (painting) so much so that my husband bought a t-shirt with the design on it. There are bathrooms and a small Seattle Museum of Art gift store. The shop had some really cool stuff in it. If you have the time or just want somewhere nice to take a stroll, head to this sculpture park. read more

Nice relaxing park.. The location has a great view of the water... Has interesting abstract art.. Great spot for a picnic or if you want to relax and read a book(if the weather permits). Its about a mile from Pike Street... The walks not bad.. You also have a view of the Space Needle..and the Space Needle is about 4 blocks away from the park... If you don't want to walk, you can take the Monorail for a couple bucks and it picks you up at the mall and drops you off a the Space Needle, from there you can walk to the park. read more

Part of the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) -this sculpture garden is awesome in so many ways that have already been described so I will not rehash them BUT it free, offers great views of the Puget Sound, and provides some awesome photo Ops. I biked here so I am not sure what the parking options are but since it is near Olympic sculpture Park, the Aquarium and many other waterfront points of interest I am sure there are places to park. However my suggestion is to ditch the car and either travel on foot or rent a bike (maybe from The Bicycle Repair Shop) the best way to get the full Seattle experience. read more

This is one of the most beautiful views of Seattle. The park overlooks the water and the mountains. It's a beautiful place to visit in Spring and is extremely clean. It is dog friendly and people run and rollerblade there. If you're looking to take touristy scenery photos, go here. There is a little indoor cafe for when your feet need a rest. Really nice for walking along the water. Went when it was a cooler day in the fall so wasn't too busy until it started warming up. You could get in a pretty long walk and we liked how the bike path was separated from the walking path. It's mostly paved so good for bringing the elderly parents some day. read more

It was pretty easy to locate, Google Maps took us right to the location, it has paid parking spots nearby and it's walking distance from Space Needle. It had great running/walking pathway, grass fields for kids and pets to run around, as well as great artistic sculptures all around the park. My favorite part of the park was the waterfront area - such beautiful view! We noticed a 1 year old birthday photoshoot while we were strolling by. To be honest, if I am back in Seattle I wouldn't go to park since there are lot of other things to do and check out however, if you have time then I highly recommended having a cute picnic or taking a walk around the park. read more

A lovely waterfront park, which I would classify as an "outdoor art museum". Their sculptures are all pretty spread out making for a really nice green stroll around this part of Seattle. There weren't a lot of people there on our Labor Day visit, which was a perfect half hour of relaxation before having to head back to work the next day. If you're looking for something "free" to do and don't mind a bit of a walk, this is on one of the things to do in Seattle (tourist or not). It's about half a mile walk from the Space Needle, however, there are a handful of artsy statues that surround this park. Follow the walkways and it leads you back to the waterfront for more epic views of the pier and mountains in the background. There's also a building to sit inside of at the front (not sure what's in there but I saw some chairs). This must be a favorites amongst locals as there were plenty of walkers and joggers hitting this little trail. read more

I was here earlier September for its summer food truck event in the park. I had to say that I was rather disappointed to see that there was really just one food truck with super pricey burgers and fries. There was one other truck that offers hot dogs. I had very limited time to explore this park and the pull for me was towards the sound. There are 9 acres of gardens on the north east side of the railway tracks which I missed completely. I had only realize that looking at an aerial map, after I got back home. This is a modern sculpture garden and it is abstract in nature. It does not try to embrace or mimic nature. It is just a canvas for sculpture. As a result it is rather stark and not soften with trees or shrubs. There is a lot of concrete present which makes it harsh and cold. Its a good back drop for modern sculpture but not particularly pleasing to the eyes looking for a softer touch. Will have to revisit to see the rest of the park. read more

As an outdoor green space with nice views of Elliot Bay, it's a beautiful park. I was there on a rainy day (which turned sunny for a few minutes before getting rainy again), but I'm sure it's a very nice place for events - bands, different acts, or just to enjoy your lunch with a view. They also have a lovely indoor area WITH bathrooms so that was much appreciated. I however was there to see all the amazing sculptures that I thought I would see, but if I had to be honest, it was very underwhelming. I kept thinking "maybe there is a secret part to the park where they keep the stuff" but nope. If you go down the steps towards the street you will see the Father and Son and the Echo sculptures but as of now, until they get more sculptures, the sculpture portion of the park is overstated. Perhaps it's because Seattle has so many great view points already and if this was in any other city, I would give you a pass but sorry Seattle, you can do better. read more

I feel grateful to have such an amazing sculpture park that is also free so close by! Having young children I'm half afraid of taking the kids to the art museum (as I remember going to as a child) since our youngest might try to run up and color on the paintings. The beautiful views of the water with the gigantic sculptures makes one have a nice relaxing afternoon. There is also ample running space for little people :). A nice park with some unique large sculptures, not too far of a walk from Pike Place. There are walking trails and even chairs and trees providing shade to sit and relax and enjoy the ocean views. It's pretty enough that people were coming here to take some unique "Seattle" wedding photos. If you like trains, it's also a great place to see some local freight trains go by. There is also a modern newer looking building which is opened to the public, not sure of the hours, but it is an information center with snack bar, and there is also an option to donate to keep up the park and learn about the history of the park and the sculptures. read more

Literally my new favorite place! You'd think I would have visited this park before since I'm from the area, but I hadn't! Not until my wife and I were enjoying our first official outing with our newborn baby. We had spent a couple of hours at Pike Place Market and still had more energy in us. It was a quick walk from there to sculpture park. The park needs no introduction, it is literally filled with sculptures and breath-taking views. From once particular spot, you can see the Space Needle, Mt. Rainier, ferry boats in the sound, snow capped mountains, and of course big metal sculptures. It's a lot to take in! Thank goodness for the perfectly landscaped lawns! I took my shoes off and sat down just to breathe. It was amazing. I'm coming back for a picnic just as soon as I find time. read more

I mainly came to see the lady staring out into the ocean but there are many other sculptures to see and admire. Many come in the morning for their run and walk their dogs it seems. My husband and I walked several blocks to get here from our hotel only to arrive and be informed that it was closed for the evening for a private charity event. Apparently this only happens once a year or so and it happened to be the night we had walked over. Great. So we were not able to explore the park at dusk or see any of the sculptures really except the few by the water and the ones we could see from the water in the park where people were eating and laughing and enjoying live music. It looked nice - I'd like to be snotty and leave a 1-star but I'm sure I'd have loved it if I could've actually walked around. Oh well - I visit Seattle for work at least 1x annually so I'll try again on another trip. read more

The sculpture garden is great for when it's nice weather outside. You can wander up and down through the different areas and check out the views of the Sound from up top of the garden as well. There were a large number of abstract art installations throughout the walk. It was nice that it wasn't very crowded and we could wander at our own pace. On a windy and cold day, you feel it even more at this garden since it is right next to the water. It was free to walk through the outdoor sculpture park. read more

This is a very underrated place in Seattle. We just happened upon it because we found parking close by and couldn't help but notice all the cool structures.
