Finding new fashion glasses at Oglethorpe is a real joy. The staff is incredibly helpful in selecting possible frames and assisting in narrowing the choices down. The frame selection includes many unusual options that provide even the artiest and funkiest to express themselves. If you're more conventional like I am, you can find stylish frames to select from. I was especially grateful for our staff member for checking our insurance and finding that insurance would pay half. I highly recommend Oscar Oglethorpe Eyewear.

The curated selection of frames for me to choose from!

Thee coolest eye exam and eyewear shopping experience I've ever had! They only stock one of each style so it's unlikely you'll bump into someone with the same ones as you - hello exclusivity! OO isn't the typical optometry office at all, and that was apparent from the moment I walked in the door. But before I get into my appointment details, I think it's worth sharing the A1 customer service I experienced while booking a visit. I submitted an appointment request online via their website, and someone called me two days later offering appointment times as soon as the next day . I also received several appointment reminders via text and an email to complete paperwork ahead of time. Another star in my book. Once I arrived, I was greeted by a staff member who had me feeling like we were longtime friends by the end of my visit - I am so bummed I forgot his name! He grabbed a file folder with my name on it, and led me over to their beautiful selection of frames. I was asked if there was any style in particular I was looking for and then given room to browse around. Another staff member, Ayannah, then approached me letting me know it was time for my exam and led me back to another part of the (huge!) office space. The machines were on a rotating table, something like I've never seen before, and Ayannah was great to chat with while also keeping things moving along. I then transitioned to another room and waiting only like 5 minutes before being seen. The optometrist came in, introduced herself, and then made a few offputting comments about my current written prescription not matching what was in my glasses. She asserted that I made an error when ordering them, which I didn't. I'm sharing this detail because it wasn't the warmest introduction - different from what I had experienced with all others, and because no one likes being talked "at" by a healthcare provider, especially one I'm meeting for the first time. She then redeemed herself by being patient in responding to all of my questions about the exam, the health of my eyes and gave recommendations on how/when I should use glasses (I have a fairly low prescription). After that, I was escorted back to the front part of the office where I was welcomed back by the first person that greeted me. He had a whole spread of glasses laid out for me to try on - felt like Christmas! This showed me that he paid attention to the styles/colors I gravitated towards while browsing and also listened when I said I was open to trying something new. After like 20+ more minutes of trying on and feeling them all out, I found a pair that I LOVE and cannot wait to pick-up. All in all, if you're looking for comprehensive eye care, stylish frames, and cool people - check out this trendy place. Oh and yes they accept insurance.

I'm honesty very disappointed with Oman Eyecare. When I first started going there many years ago,…read morethey were extremely friendly and I never had any billing issues. However, on 2 of the last 3 visits, I've had charge disputes which came as unnecessary surprises. When I established this latest appointment, I made it perfectly clear that I expected this visit to be covered by my insurance at no charge (since I had a previous problem with them in this regard, I wanted to make sure there was no misunderstanding). The person on the line confirmed they had my current insurance information on file, and that there would be no charge. They also acknowledged that their records indicated I visited Duke University Eye Center every year for a diagnostic eye exam, so the visit to Oman would be related to my optical Rx. Again, given a past billing issue with them, when I arrived for my appointment, I made it a point of mentioning to the desk person that my visit was to be at no charge. I confirmed the same information about going to Duke Eye Center every year. No questions or issues were raised about anything I said. Honestly, if they had mentioned there would be a charge for just having a portion of the exam performed (I didn't need Oman to replicate what I had done by Duke Eye Center a couple months prior), I would have had the entire exam done or chose to leave. The person who initially examined me had the personality of a dead fish. Totally unfriendly, disengaged, and seemed as if she would have liked to be anyplace else. Subsequently, I saw the optometrist, he went through the vision procedure, and I proceeded to the front desk to check out. All I expected was to be handed my prescription. I indicated I'd be back to visit their optical shop later, since I wanted my wife with me to choose a frame. At that point, the desk person indicated that my charge is $54. I told them that this visit was to be at no charge, as is noted on my insurance card for in-network providers like Oman. I also stated that this had been previously confirmed by them. I then got fed some nonsense about not having the "complete exam," so I had to pay for the refractory (determining the vision Rx) portion. Now, mind you, the "complete exam" INCLUDES the refractory portion. If I had been told this upfront, I would have gone through the complete exam, even though it was entirely unnecessary, or just left. Obviously, there was no question from the onset as to why I scheduled an appointment with them or that my expectation was that their service would be without charge to me. Long story short is that I didn't pay them, they stated they'd submit a claim to Humana's EyeMed Vision anyway, and I walked out of there without my Rx. In essence, the visit was an entire waste of my time. It's now been 2-1/2 weeks, and I've heard nothing from them whatsoever. So, I guess I just don't get my Rx prescription or even know what they've done with the claim. Overall, it was an entirely negative experience. I place the blame on them for poor communication, having individuals on their staff who apparently don't care about friendly interactions with their patients, and for seemingly trying to bill for services where a patient had clearly communicated their expectations otherwise.

The ladies at the front desk had me checked in within record time. Because I had already completed my paperwork, things went smoothly. I was then ushered to a large, lovely seating area, where many other patients were waiting. The office is massive, containing several doctors, as well as a vision center to pick out eyewear and procedure rooms. My technician and doctor were absolutely wonderful. Initially, the tech took a thorough history and did some tests. She was very pleasant, moved with intention, but not rushed. She was communicative, but not chatty (IYKYK), and had me very impressed. I was well-handled and wondered what was left for anyone else to do. Lol When the doctor arrived, he was even more thorough than the technician. He double-checked her work, then began a discussion with me about my eyes and their health. He did some more evaluation and put me at ease. I remember thinking, "This place is amazing!" At the end, he gave me advice and then said, "That's it," with the most amazingly warm smile I had seen in a while. It was genuine and read like he really enjoyed his job. I mean, WOW. That did it for me, folks. I had already been impressed by the place, but the smile sold me on GO. I am a patient for life! Greensboro Ophthalmology is officially Kiesha Speech approved. I cannot let this pass! I am so extremely disappointed with this eye care practice. Total incompetence. Let me begin with: I have had myopia since I was 12 years old. With Dr. Martinek, I walked into the office having myopia in both eyes, but walked out with a "perfectly healthy" left eye (20/20 vision). But 5 months after that visit, when I could not see at all, I walked in with her "20/20 vision" in my left eye and left with myopia again. Go figure! Meanwhile, she had me on "dry eye" treatment however charging both my eye and medical insurance for unprofessional and incompetent care. I still had to have a THIRD eye exam this year because I could not see after Dr Martinek's second exam. I know mistakes/typos/calibration errors can happen, and I appreciate honesty. The people in this practice, starting with Dr. Martinek, are unable to take responsibility for mistakes but quickly blame the patient. Josef, the optician/administrator, is condescending and disrespectful. It is truly embarrassing. I prefer driving 90 minutes to see my eye doctor in Wake Forest and have positive, respectful, quality care.

Mixed experience that started promising but ended with a serious concern…read more My first visit was for ongoing eye irritation, redness, and itching -- not seasonal, just a daily struggle. The comprehensive exam was thorough: vision check, infection test, the works. I appreciated that. However, my doctor's initial recommendation was simply to continue my old eye drops, which weren't helping. Only after I pushed back and explained how much this was affecting my daily life did she suggest something new. I shouldn't have had to advocate that hard to get proper treatment. I was also told I had $150 from my insurance for eyeglasses, so I asked about UV/blue light glasses given my diagnosis. She said I'd need a separate appointment for a vision exam -- even though a vision exam had already been performed. That felt unnecessary, but I scheduled it anyway. At my second appointment, the nurse informed me that a retinal image ($45-$65) was required by law alongside the eye exam. That immediately didn't sit right with me. I asked if it was optional, she insisted it was mandatory by law. I cancelled on the spot, called my insurance directly, and they confirmed it is completely optional. My insurance is through my corporate job -- one of the best plans out there -- and they were very clear about it. I don't know if this was a miscommunication or an intentional attempt to overcharge, but either way it's not acceptable. I thought I had found a great new eye care provider. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.

I was able to book an eye exam online through their website for the following week. They had a ton of availability and it was nice to do this at any hour of the day at my convenience without talking to someone. After I booked, I was immediately sent paperwork to fill out with my personal information and insurance (this was to help save time at my appointment). My appointment comes around and lucky me...I forgot my wallet. Thankfully I had photos of my ID & vision insurance on my phone and they took Apple Pay (a huge plus in my book). The person at the front desk was friendly and I only had to wait maybe a minute or two before the technician came to collect me. I do not remember her name, but she was kind and explained everything to me before taking photos of my eyes or doing anything. Something that was interesting about this whole experience was that the doctor was remote! The technician set up the exam towards the end of the appointment and I communicated with Dr. Boykin on video chat through an iPad like device. Even though he was remote, it still felt very personable with A+ care. He went over my eye scans with me and explained what a healthy eye looks like. The technician was in the room the whole time. After he finished the exam, he immediately wrote me a prescription and I went to the retail part of the store to pick out glasses. You definitely are not pressured to buy any of their glasses, but I wanted to because of convenience. The whole eye exam appointment took about an hour. The retail associate was also really nice. I definitely took my time trying on glasses to find what I liked and she didn't rush me at all and even helped make suggestions. I truly appreciated her patience. Before I placed my glasses order, she broke down the cost and explained what insurance covered. All in all, this was a wonderful experience. If you need to see an eye doctor, I would recommend this place!
