Mixed experience that started promising but ended with a serious concern. My first visit was for ongoing eye irritation, redness, and itching -- not seasonal, just a daily struggle. The comprehensive exam was thorough: vision check, infection test, the works. I appreciated that. However, my doctor's initial recommendation was simply to continue my old eye drops, which weren't helping. Only after I pushed back and explained how much this was affecting my daily life did she suggest something new. I shouldn't have had to advocate that hard to get proper treatment. I was also told I had $150 from my insurance for eyeglasses, so I asked about UV/blue light glasses given my diagnosis. She said I'd need a separate appointment for a vision exam -- even though a vision exam had already been performed. That felt unnecessary, but I scheduled it anyway. At my second appointment, the nurse informed me that a retinal image ($45-$65) was required by law alongside the eye exam. That immediately didn't sit right with me. I asked if it was optional, she insisted it was mandatory by law. I cancelled on the spot, called my insurance directly, and they confirmed it is completely optional. My insurance is through my corporate job -- one of the best plans out there -- and they were very clear about it. I don't know if this was a miscommunication or an intentional attempt to overcharge, but either way it's not acceptable. I thought I had found a great new eye care provider. Last week I was having the worst migraines, so I figured it was time to see an optometrist to get an updated glasses prescription. I was able to book an eye exam online through their website for the following week. They had a ton of availability and it was nice to do this at any hour of the day at my convenience without talking to someone. After I booked, I was immediately sent paperwork to fill out with my personal information and insurance (this was to help save time at my appointment). My appointment comes around and lucky me...I forgot my wallet. Thankfully I had photos of my ID & vision insurance on my phone and they took Apple Pay (a huge plus in my book). The person at the front desk was friendly and I only had to wait maybe a minute or two before the technician came to collect me. I do not remember her name, but she was kind and explained everything to me before taking photos of my eyes or doing anything. Something that was interesting about this whole experience was that the doctor was remote! The technician set up the exam towards the end of the appointment and I communicated with Dr. Boykin on video chat through an iPad like device. Even though he was remote, it still felt very personable with A+ care. He went over my eye scans with me and explained what a healthy eye looks like. The technician was in the room the whole time. After he finished the exam, he immediately wrote me a prescription and I went to the retail part of the store to pick out glasses. You definitely are not pressured to buy any of their glasses, but I wanted to because of convenience. The whole eye exam appointment took about an hour. The retail associate was also really nice. I definitely took my time trying on glasses to find what I liked and she didn't rush me at all and even helped make suggestions. I truly appreciated her patience. Before I placed my glasses order, she broke down the cost and explained what insurance covered. All in all, this was a wonderful experience. If you need to see an eye doctor, I would recommend this place! read more

Stay away from this place. I went here years ago and had to wait 2 to 3 4 hours in Adams Farm. The Eye Doctor had me to come back to see her at least 3 times and then they wanted a co-pay each time. (Then still had to wait 2 to 3 hrs). Office manager was rude as well. She may not be there any longer though. read more

I've been a customer of MyEye Dr for a number of years at differing locations, and I've never had reason to complain. Typically, everyone is kind, professional, and personable. However, today, I had an appt at the 5710 WGate City Blvd location, and I couldn't wait to leave. The front desk and sales lady were awesome and welcoming, but the technician and optometrist made me so very uncomfortable.This is MY eye health we're talking about, yet each of them acted as if my questions were uncommonly bothersome. Covid-19 & NC Leadership No Win-Win for US. My annual previously scheduled appointment in May was cancelled by text message due to Covid-19. Totally understandable! However, although advised by this office they would call & reschedule, they never did. In July I got a notice from My Eye Doctor Corporate indicating offices were reopening & advising customers to book an appointment online. When I went to this office website, it indicated no appointments were available & to call the office. I did, but no one answered. After multiple calls, My Eye Doctor Corporate answered. They called, but were not able to get through to this office. Corporate indicated they sent this office manager an email & reassured me as a long time customer I would be called to set up an appointment. No one ever called. In August I was able to schedule an online appointment at the Adams Farm office. The first appointment I could get was in November. In October my wife was sent a text reminder of her previously scheduled annual appointment at this office. We both went to the appointment in October. The Receptionist, Medical Assistant, MD & Eyewear Assistant were all from other NC My Eye Doctor offices & just filling in until this office could be re-staffed. They were all nice & deserve 5 Stars for their friendly & professional services. Amid the challenges mandated by NC as who must close, when, who or how to reopen under NC Covid-19 Restrictions, it turns out all the staff quit at this location. I understand why staff may have left. But My Eye Doctor Corporate must have known & should have done a better job to inform previous appointment customers, especially with helping us reschedule our previous appointment elsewhere. At any level, Management did not handled this situation well. Therefore, Corporate, nor this office Management doesn't deserve more than 1 Star. It's a total shame how NC Governor has picked & chose which & how businesses can operate under Covid-19. No one person should have such power over any of US. read more

The business concept and techs and doctors are very professional and kind. However, whoever is over the office staff need some serious attitude adjustments. The phone call letting us know that the $44 is not covered left a bad taste to start. It really could be delivered so much nicer. Then lack of acknowledgement when you check in. Then no communication of how much longer your wait time is, all the way to the end at check out. Whatever good customer interactions you've had with the techs and doctors go out the window at the front desk. It really is so sad that the key place of making an impression is so bad at an otherwise really nice business model. read more

Problem is the staff who answers the phone are uneducated about how to answer simple questions about the business. Therefore when you repeat the same question in a different way or two, they get upset and like children hang up on you. Hell yes I am calling back and the next person is equally as uneducated about the laws of asking for a social security number. You are not required to provide a social security number and if they refuse you business go get an attorney and sue the franchise and the person who asked for it personally and possibly the franchisee, unless these are corporate stores. The front desk doesn't know. I forbid you to get over charged her for an eye exam by a nobody doctor, for $138. That is insane to charge that much. The optical lenses they have are cheap and they don't know anything about the brands they sell. Horrible customer service. Go anywhere else. read more

The contact techs are incompetent and do not know their information. One tech told me I was looking at the wrong contacts online for a good five minutes and when the more experienced came over to tell me it was those (and to price match) the first tech couldn't even humble herself to say sorry for being rude about it. They did not note what contacts I was trying so when I called to order them no one knew which I wanted. Depending on the tech for contacts you will get different prices. No one ever returned my calls as promised. When the nicer, more experienced lady came up she was able to calculate a different (cheaper) price for me than the rude lady! Ask for the manager when ordering glasses or contacts- might save you a ton of money. Follow up: after the tech made multiple mistakes she said "it's not my fault." On February 3, my wife and I ordered our glasses and were told it would take two weeks to fill. My wife's glasses took three weeks to deliver. It has now been five weeks and I have yet to receive mine. It doesn't take that long to make glasses anywhere else. The company can not give any satisfactory answer as to why my order has not been filled. I have taken steps to rescind my insurance claim and refund the portion I paid for the glasses. My glasses from the dollar store are better. The tech, took the glasses and came back after about 17 mins, they still weren't right. It seemed like she switched the lenses around. A total bust. I spent over $700 for a pair of glasses that I cannot use. I live about an hour away, so I had to plan my trips to get my new glasses adjusted. The first 2 times, a tech bent my frames and said try that. The third time I insisted on seeing the doctor. The tech filled a form and I had to come back for the appointment. They remade one of the lenses and when it still was not right they informed me that this would be the last time. The final time, the glasses were made worse, so I threw them away and I will not be back. When I mentioned to a coworker that I had gone to My Eye Doctor, before I could tell him my story, he said "Don't go to My Eye Doctor." So now this is my advice to you. read more

Great place! I chose them because they were one of the few places that offered Saturday hours. They also have convenient weekday hours that fit my schedule. When I arrived for my appointment they confirmed my decision, absolutely awesome. Fabulous experience and loved that I was in and out within an hour. If it could be less I would love even more. One thing that wasn't a big big deal but finding an appointment in near future at desired location is a bit difficult. However if you keep an eye out online or call you can find someone that cancels. read more

The doctor is knowledgeable but the lenses are poor quality. They scratched severely within two months. The billing is also an issue. They say they can not bill but one insurance company. If you happen to go for an eye infection for example, and have two insurance companies, they can only bill the primary. When paid the balance later and asked for my receipt to file with the secondary, I was told the date of service would have to be today's date on it, which my secondary insurance will still not reimburse for since the date of service does not match the claim. I have asked for assistance for almost a year and continue to have no help. This is a big company. Tell me why their system is not able to file claims with two insurance companies they participate with, and appear to be lacking in service and quality. read more

I tried this place because I was given a groupon. I love love love where I usually go, but I figured, "Hey, why not?" I find the the service to be terrible, the workers are pushy in sales and, in my experience, several have been very rude, or poor customer relations at best. My glasses took 3 weeks to get back instead of 2 because of something with the frames, and the groupon "seeeeeemed" misleading (I actually didn't even use it because it would have cost MORE to apply the 200 dollar discount that to participate in a different promotion, hmm?) . I have been to two of the locations in Greensboro and had the same experience, though I did have an amazing sales associate at one of them, once. I would like to edit, this location is under new management. The manager Jaime is very helpful and courteous and, I believe, can bring those qualities to her business. I had my eyes examined by my usual doctor, but went here for my glasses, with a friend that recommended them. I had a wonderful experience. Jamie was extremely knowledgeable. With her and my friend's help, I found a frame I absolutely LOVE! I only had a single vision RX filled so I was a little surprised it took a few days, but WELL WORTH the wait! I haven't been this happy to wear my glasses in YEARS, and I cannot speak more highly of Jamie (I believe she is the manager there). The day I went she was in doing inventory (on her day off) and still took time to make me feel like I was the only one there. She has a personality with even more style than the glasses. This has to be the friendliest place I've been to in awhile. The staff were very nice and greeted me as I walked in. I didn't have to wait long for someone to take me back for my appointment. When it came time to order new glasses, now things did get a bit interesting for me. Seems I've either been charged wrong or someone doesn't know how to use my insurance. Either way, I bought glasses the cheapest I've EVER bought them! No, this is not my first time at My Eye Dr. Last year I bought glasses from them and they cost me over $500. This time, $285. Of course, no one knows why. Same insurance, same deductible. All that was said was, "Merry Christmas?!" What's a person to do, can't cry over spilled milk now. I mean, it's been over a year since I bought glasses. At least I now know going forward my glasses shouldn't cost me an arm and a leg!!! This is the worst experience I've had ordering glasses. The optometrist appointment was ok. But getting my glasses has been a nightmare. I was told my prescription lenses and prescription sun glasses would be ready in two weeks. When I called two weeks to the day for a status update I was told they wouldn't be ready for another week. The customer service is lacking and there's been a lot of confusion and misinformation. I do NOT recommend My Eye Dr. for glasses. read more

On 8/24/2017 I took 3 of my kids to get eye exams and was planning on purchasing glasses at Costco. I was however so impressed with the technician that I spoke to I actually decided to purchase my sons glasses there. She was great, she spent the extra time to pick out frames that my 10 and 12 year old children would like. We put in the order and was told that it would take about a week to get the glasses back. Well my 12 year old got his in 3 days, which was very impressive. My 10 year old however didn't get his and that was fine because it was still in the week time frame. Well a week and a half goes by, no call, so I call and check on the glasses. I was told that the frame broke when they were putting the lenses in, okay no big deal, they would get the same frame and it would take another week. Well another week and a half comes and goes so I call again and was told the glasses were in, great, my husband had an appointment that Saturday to get his eyes checked so he would take him and pick them up. They show up Saturday, and was told the frame was once again broken. I went up there that following Monday and was told they had sent off for yet another frame and the glasses should be done in you guess it a week. Well this time they were done in a week but the lenses were so heavy the glasses kept sliding down my son's face. I made yet another trip to Friendly to get a refund, that was my initial idea but the technician actually suggested a smaller frame which would cut down on the heaviness and that should solve the problem. Well it's now 10/09/2017 my son has yet to receive his glasses., it has been 2 weeks. I have 6 people in my household that wear either/or glasses and contacts and I will be taking my business elsewhere after (If I ever receive them) my son's glasses. read more

My glasses took roughly a week and a half to come in. I picked them up on a Friday and called the 800 number Monday to return them. My prescription is for single vision glasses. There are letters on the inner portion of both lens. As well as one letter in the outermost corner of the lenses. They also have a scratch on the right len. Although the staff was friendly, its apparent that money is the driving force. I listened to a sales rep repeatedly insist that the customer get progressive lenses. The customer stated that she'd had them before and didn't like the. That went in one ear and out the other. Ultimately, the rep was able to convince the woman to get the progressive lenses. They had a BOGO sale that I wasn't allowed to participate in because I used insurance. I have a pair from lens crafters that cost less and have a protection plan. I wouldn't use the company again. read more

I brought in sunglasses to update the lenses in them. They came back, but with the wrong prescription. I was told they would redo the lenses in an expedited fashion. Three weeks later, they came in - just the lenses, not in the frames! I was told they would send them back to the lab and I should have them in a day or two. They finally came in a week later. On the first visit I waited 45 minutes before a technician could see me. I was promised my glasses would be made by a certain date. That date came and went. Then the next promised date came and went. They said they were having some issues with their lens manufacturer. Ultimately, I needed the glasses to be remade (through no fault of MED). Once again, we've blown through a number of promised due dates and are approaching the one month mark from when I dropped the lenses off. Went to get glasses when there the doctor said my prescription that I had in my glasses was way off what it should be. I received my new glasses and went back after a couple of days feeling not right. Told new glasses should take a few weeks to get my eyes adjusted. Went back again and waited 45 minutes and told the same thing. Finally after the new year my plan was available I went back to get check because I was feeling like I was going blind with my glasses. Was informed that my prescription was way off and should of been closer to my old prescription. So new lenses and with no help from Abbey in the office to get a price break since the original prescription was wrong. Went to the office in Jamestown and having better luck. read more

I moved to Greensboro in 2010 and ended up seeing a different doctor every year due to unprofessionalism or pushiness of staff. That ended last year when I saw Dr. Dolan. He understood the rare genetic disease I have that can affect my eyes, and provided a thorough exam. The staff was very friendly without being pushy about retinal scans and eyewear purchases. My son and I both get our exams there now and it is always a pleasant experience. Dr. Painter is excellent as well. read more

First of all, I want to say that the optometrist who saw me was very good and I have no complaints about him. When it came to choosing a frame, I felt like I was being rushed. The frame I picked out was ok, but I can't say I was loving them when I got my actual glasses. The close up vision with my new lenses was great but the distant wasn't. I was told to give my eyes a week to adjust to the change. I gave them almost 3 weeks and couldn't take it anymore. Had to tilt my head sideways and use one eye to see sort of clear in a small area in the the distance. Absolutely no useful peripheral vision. So I took them back and they were going to adjust the lenses. That was 3 weeks ago. I called today and was told they won't be back for over another week??? I spent a lot of money on these glasses and need to wear them constantly. I have had to have lenses tweaked a little in the past but never has this taken so long. I will not be returning to MyEyeDr in the future! read more
