I would've liked to have played with the kittens. I was unable to since I was not going to adopt one. also while I was by the register, I heard this strange sound. Sound of an owl? Hubby Ann's I went to check out resale shop to my ears I heard barking lol yup my eyes glazed upon a beagle Bassett mix and then my heart melted All of the volunteers were sweet gave me inside to his personality etc Lori was a sweetheart they took time to check all references and speak to my veterinarian office I would highly recommend them for adoption My guy is healthy had a dental ! read more

I've been here a few times and am pleasantly surprised by what I find here! My mom and I are animal lovers. I live in the south suburbs and my mom lives in the northwest suburbs and we enjoy taking a trip out here to donate and shop at this thrift store. It's for a GREAT cause and I'm very happy to donate my things to them. The shop is fairly well-organized and you do need to hunt to find good things. I've found many labels like Victoria's Secret PINK, Gap, Mango, Forever 21, Michael Kors, Simply Vera by Vera Wang, BCBG Max Azria, and Free People, to name a few. They also have housewares, shoes, and pet supplies (Of course). They also have a sale rack where everything is $1. Again, you need to dig through it to find the goods. There is an adjoining room where they keep a few animals up for adoption. The smell doesn't bother me personally. If you're in the area, check it out - maybe you'll find some of my used clothing on the racks! Support the animals! Also, you get a 3% discount if you pay with cash instead of a card! read more

What an amazing idea to have a thrift store that funds a pet adoption agency. The only problem is, the lady that manages the thrift store part acts like she doesn't want customers. Yet, the ladies in the adoption part are quite friendly and they make sure that you are the right family for the pet you choose. We got our cat, Lilo, from there. They made sure that Lilo was going to a good home and even called to see how things were going. Lilo is an amazing kitty and we could not imagine our lives without her. If we could review the adoption side separately, it would have 5 stars. read more

This is a great little thrift store with great prices. There is always a good selection of children's, baby and Women's clothing. There is a ever-changing selection of knickknacks that is a joy to look through. Books, Albums, CDs are are priced comparable to other thrift stores. If you need a leash, collar, bowl for you animal, they have them for cheap. This is the place to get it. There is a frequent buyer's card that can be utilized if you shop here enough. Most important is the cause On Angels' Wings represents. This is an animal charity. They rescue a ton of animals here. They are often on display here or on their website. I have been shopping here, and more importantly, donating here for years now. There is no better thrift store cause in McHenry County. i think the animal shelter is a wonderful idea, I gathered up donations, went out and bought some with my own money, went to drop them off. This was my second time going here and I was directed to a back room full of items to put the bags down. The room was full of items that the thrift shop sells. The ladies in the room next door didn't seem to acknowledge me at first but just told me to put them on the floor. So now i'm left to wonder, did my donations go towards the animals or for their thrift shop? Won't be donating here anymore... read more

Just recently adopted a kitten there. Staff was very helpful and the cat is extremely healthy. The thrift store attached is just a bonus!

While I am hesitant to discourage anyone from adoption or fostering animals, I highly suggest looking into a different organization. I could not believe the treatment received and the lack luster approach by this outfit. Follow up is non existent which makes you seriously wonder if they care about the safety of animals once adopted out. Left messages that went unanswered until a denial was left on a VM. I am not bitter since we were forthright in explaining our current animals, and many shy away from pitties. However, after 4 rescues and providing wonderful animals a home 20 years later, I would say stay away. There are better and no one looking to adopt should be treated as poorly as we were. Makes you wonder how the animals are treated behind the closed doors. read more

There is a hidden treasure located between Trader Joes and Tuesday Morning in Lake Zurich. It is the resale shop sponsored by the Animal Welfare League. It is named On Angels' Wings. The shop opened in September of 2010, and offers women's, children's and men's clothing, housewares,furniture, shoes,and handbags, along with fashion and home accessories. You can put together a complete outfit and decorate a room without breaking the bank. The proceeds go for the care of homeless animals that are being cared for in foster homes, while waiting for their forever homes. Do yourself and homeless animals a favor and stop in. Local businesses are slowly dying out in this economy. Big buck stores are taking over as the smaller stores get demolished in the race to success. But there's something about small business establishments that you don't get at any major department store. The Environment: On Angels' wings has beautiful environment filled with eye catching merchandise like clothes, electronics, and toys. The Prices: it's hard to find unbeatable deals now a days, but here, everything is practically a steal! The Customer Service: I didn't end up buying anything but I was directed towards a specific section in the store in which I could not find. All these perks seem to only come with local business these days. I love supporting local thrift shops and On Angels' Wings is definitely somewhere you want to be to find great deals and great customer service. The "communications director" is completely unorganized and lacks communication skills. I will never deal with OAW again nor will I donate to them. She told me in an email that I had "first dibs" on my preferred kitten and after 5 weeks adopted him out to someone else without processing my application. read more

The thrifting is okay, not teriibly great but not bad. Its the cause that it goes to that really gives you the drive to do good. I love being able to see all the cats and dogs awaiting adoption. Very well organized, clean and has a nice layout. The books are alphabetized by author and genre which is a big plus. Even the craft area is divided into sections. The clothes are moderately priced, but you can find great deals as they have a different special every day. There are two roomy, clean, decorated changing rooms. Sometimes it can be a bit noisy if volunteers are taking the dogs out for walks. There isn't much of an animal smell considering how many animals are housed there. Zero stars- I adopted a kitten and was told it was seen by a vet and had a "clean bill of health." Noticed immediately of scabs on her ear at the time of adoption on her leg and her nose and was told probably from playing with a cat in the kennel. Took her home, and noticed her sneezing. Took her into our vet and was told she has an extreme case of ringworm, upper respiratory infection, ear mites and stomach issues. After reaching out to them, they basically said sorry with nothing else. I went and left ratings on Facebook making others aware of this and they deleted my review and blocked me from the page. I escalated the situation and called an attorney, and reached out to them one last time to try and resolve this issue. They finally came back and only reimbursed the cost of the ringworm medications not the rest of the $180 vet bill or the $130 adoption cost. Now both my kids have ringworm and my dogs have it also in which I had to buy medications for. My co-worker who referred me here also has found out her kittens from the same place also have these issues. With the refund check they were sure to send a nasty letter along with it. This place needs to be shut down. They should not even own a living fly. Stay far away. read more

They falsely advertised a "marble" fireplace and sold it to us for $500. We found out it wasn't marble and they did not want to return it. After a bit of back and forth the manager or owner said they would return it but they were going to charge us credit card fees! But that wasn't all! After we returned it they told us they would also be charging us sales tax! What?! Who does that?! As far as I'm concerned that is stealing!!! For a grand total of $85 for a return of something they falsely advertised! Their fault!!!! Never setting foot in there again! Then they tried blackmailing us!!! Said they wouldn't give us any money back if we didn't remove bad fb review?! Who do they think they are?! Seriously!!! read more

Sometimes you can find nice stuff here, but it isn't always priced good, and the store can be dirty and dusty. I don't like it that the people there don't know how much of the money they make off donations goes to saving animals. Katie M's review says the workers at the store are all volunteers but that isn't right - there are many employees, and some volunteers. The owner's family an friends work there too. For young people looking for a bargain, this place is a ton better than Plato's closet or places like that. And it's cheap cheap cheap! I got 2 shirts for $.99/each and a pair of shorts for $2.00. Hello! can't find that at Kohl's even in their 80% off rack. LOL I admit that I had to go back a few times. It's hit or miss but I think any thrift store is like that. They had like 2-3 cool items each time. The best part is that all the money goes to help find cats and dogs that other people didn't want or gave up to shelters a new home. They may have some feelings for dogs, but they hate people. Your donations will be treated like garbage and so will you. I previously gave this business a 5 star review given their charitable works. Unfortunately, I find myself rescinding the review. I am moving and have made thousands of dollars in donations of clothing and household goods in the past. I recently called on three or four separate occasions to arrange for a donation of well over two thousand books. I stressed the quantity. I was told by Lauri they would be pleased to receive them. I confirmed with Sandy, one of their people, only one hour before the day of delivery that things were set to go. Upon arrival one of their people told us where to place the books. After we unpacked about 150 books their unprofessional and nasty director demanded without apology that we remove all of the books from the premises. What is stunning is we even hired people at our own expense to help us pack these books and verified on at least THREE separate occasions they wanted them! The director, or presumed manager, yelled demanding we remove every book at once. When I explained her people said the donation was wanted she said I shouldn't listen to her people since they are all untrained. Following this heated exchange we left. INCREDIBLY, our local police came to our home! The director wanted us charged with dumping! Our policeman laughed at their pettiness and the outrageous behavior of treating a donor so badly. The Crystal Lake police hoped they wouldn't have any more trouble with the director. The police were stunned at the pettiness of these people. If they didn't want the books they could have tossed them in the garbage. It's hard to believe they have concern for animals since they treat their donors so shabbily. read more

When I first moved here three years ago, On Angel's Wings was one of my frequent thrift store shops. At times I found things to be a bit overpriced, but at the same time, you look for the deals, I find this to be true of the many thrift stores I frequent, but this is not their biggest problem. They have incorporated the animal outreach portion of their business directly into their store, by expanding into an adjoining storefront. The problem, is the adjoining storefront is open into the thrift store, and now when you walk into the thrift store you are met by a most foul smell. It actually took my breath away, when I walked around the corner into the room next to where the animals are located, not only was there poop on the floor by a couch that they are trunk to sell, but urine stains all over the carpet. The smell is overwhelming. I literally ran out the door gaging. I can honestly say that unless I see some advertising that they have moved the animal portion of their business into a separate space, I will not be back to shop at On Angel's wings thrift store, it was that bad. read more

I am very sad to have to write this review as I have loved shopping here for many year's! I had bought a used fireplace for $500.00 that was misrepresented as real marble on their web-site, face book page and in print in the store. When I took it home and showed it to a friend he told me it was a fake marble. I called the next morning and was told they do not take returns. They said they would have the manager call me back but she never did and I had to call back. After a long heated conversation she agreed to refund my $. I had my Daughter return it the next day. I called later to get my refund credited back to my card. They told me they were going to charge me 10% for CC transaction fee's and when I asked about the sales tax refund I was told they wouldn't return it. I called back and told them it was against the law to keep the $35.00 in sales tax and they told me they would have someone call me to see if they would refund it! I did get a call and was told that she would not refund the sales tax she owed me unless my Daughter removed her face book comment regarding this very unpleasant citation! This person's ego know's no bounds! This felt like this was a form of blackmail to get back my own $!! Well I will not be bullied to retract a true review of this situation!
