Just recently adopted a kitten there. Staff was very helpful and the cat is extremely healthy. The thrift store attached is just a bonus!

The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, professional, compassionate and truly cares about its pets, and the people who love them. We were amazed at how carefully they checked our background before considering us as adoptive "parents" for our little 'special needs' puppy. They really want to be sure that prospective adopters are good for the animal, as well as that the animal is the right fit for the people's home and family. We also witnessed an elderly lady surrendering her dog there, one day. She was scheduled to go into a facility where they didn't accept large dogs. It was sad, but necessary. The staff was so kind to her, and handled the emotional transition beautifully for both the woman and her beloved dog. The facility is always clean and well maintained. The animals are cared for and get to be walked by volunteers and staff members each day. We are so happy we found our little Rocky, and he was lucky to have been cared for by such a loving group of people until we did!!

At Helping Paws Animal Shelter, the adoption process is extremely unrealistic as well as unfair to…read morethe animals there. The more you interact with the shelter, the higher the bar is set for adoption, and you begin to realize they will never adopt to you. I was an animal care specialist for over 30 years at various parks and facilities and was not able to adopt from this shelter. I've cared for alligators and bats to whales and zebras and so many animals in between. I've had rescue cats my whole life who have lived long happy lives into their late teens. If someone like me is considered unqualified to give a dog or cat a home, then who is? If all shelters operated like Helping Paws, the shelters would be overcrowded to the point of not accepting animals, and very few animals would be living out good lives in loving homes. With no place left to go, these animals will likely wind up being euthanized. I gave them 2 stars because the friendly staff does take good care of their shelter, which is good because that's where the animals are likely to live for a good chunk of their short lives. It's an unfortunate situation for the animals to end up in, and what's the point of keeping animals in shelters and out of homes? In my experience in the animal care field, I have seen this before, where good intentions eventually devolve into harmful situations for the animals as people see themselves as heroes, putting egos before animal welfare. This is also harmful for potential families in what would have provided suitable, loving homes to rescues. Yes, it's good to be selective about where the animals go, but it ends up being harmful when the selection process becomes so rigid that the animals spend years of their lives in a shelter before they get adopted (if ever) because many potentially good homes are weeded out right along with the bad ones.

What an awesome pet shop!…read more My wife and daughter came in here to look around and ended up falling in love with the idea of owning a Linney Parakeet. There was a new group of hatchlings that were being nurtured until ready for going to a new home. Kennedy was a standout at B&B! She knew everything about the linney breed and help assure my wife that caring for the bird would be within our capabilities as new bird owners. The purchase process, take home process, and the regular check-ins have been filled with excellent customer service. Everyone in the store is willing to help and answer questions. I also really love the frog room and though I didn't open any of the drawers (you're not supposed to without help), I realized last time that they have a ton of snakes that are just not on display. There is so much to see here and friendly and knowledgeable staff, so if you're looking for something other than a cat or dog, this is the place for you!

To my surprise, 120 is just enough to feed a toad for 2 weeks. Here, the small crickets are $0.09 each if you get over 60, we walked out spending just under $12. Not bad. Regarding the staff, only positivity and smiles coming from these employees. We were there close to closing time so we saw some cleaning and closing tasks being taken care of professionally. They have some lizards, snakes, amphibians, birds, gerbils, and fish, and plenty of food and accessories that you need for your pets. I'll be back for more crickets in 2 weeks... and I'm thinking about getting the boa constrictor they have in stock!

I was told I had to go grab the 'code' off the tag to ensure I was a member to get offer. I explained I just gave you my phone number from previous purchase and I used my member $10 reward for that previous purchase (proves I am a member) and now I am to get out of line, run to back of store to take a picture of the code on your own store's barcode tag so I can get the reward advertised? Yes, according to Christina the cashier as well as the manager, Erik that I was supposed to get out of line and go back and take a picture in order to claim. (Not like an employee or say a manager just standing there could offer a solution by getting the code himself as my previous purchase wasnt even in bags for me yet) I regrettably do so and came back and stood in line to finish transaction and made the comment "that your system is so asinine" to which Erik stated "you don't need to use that kind of language." I had to educate this older gentleman that in no way is 'asinine' a bad word or inappropriate. I asked him if he knew what it meant with no response from him and proceeded to tell him exactly what that word meant. I received no apologies from Erik for his rude comment and was stunned by his lack of inappropriate managerial actions/words. I won't be returning to this location by supporting this particular franchised location.
