This definitely didn't hit the Mark.... I Hired Mark Kelly Contractor B643321 from a Craigslist ad to install a new front door in our home in San Luis Obispo. The door which I purchased and had ready at the property came framed including the threshold. Mark informed me over the phone that he is not like the other contractors around and does what he says he will do. He claimed when he tells you what time he will be there he is always there and finishes the job on time. This was a simple door and frame change that should have taken no longer than 3 hours by an experienced contractor. We scheduled an appointment for that following Wednesday at 9 - 930am. He didn't show up until noon that day. He brought a worker with him and stood there and watched him work until 3pm at which time he said he had to come back the next day to complete the job because he had to pickup his kids. Mark said he would be back the next morning and my daughter waited all day for him and he was a no show. This continued for a week and he finally sent a worker with a saw to cut the floor to fit the threshold in. I visited the following week and noticed that the threshold was not supported properly and would bend and flex when stepped on creating a trip hazard. I texted Mark and told him of the problem and he said he would take care of it. More that a week passed and he did not come to take care of the problem. It was not until I contacted him again and explained that we were having a birthday party that coming Saturday and that there would be several people including families with babies and I did not want to risk having any guest trip and fall at the threshold. He said he would be there to take care of it by Wednesday of that week. Alas Mark didn't show again, I contacted him again and explained the urgency he said he would be there by Thursday. So Mark and his worker showed up mid day on Thursday and Mark watched his worker squirt expanding foam insulation under the threshold and then left. The foam was oozing out in the seams and in the front of the house in plain view at the base of the door. When I visited that weekend I inspected his work and was dismayed that this was his solution to solving an unstable threshold in a front door. I contacted him again to come back and cleanup the insulation that was hanging out of the threshold and to install the trim piece or flashing that was missing below the threshold. He then began to argue that there was nothing there in the first place. I then sent him before and after pictures showing the doorway prior to him working on it and then after. This has been going on for over 2 months. He continues to refuse to come to fix the unsightly mess he created and was rude and arrogant on the phone with my son in law who attempted to get him to return to complete the job. Moral of the story do not pay this contractor until the work is complete. The funny thing is he is a licensed contractor and house inspector in the area. Really??? read more

Mark Kelly of Mar-Kel Construction and On The Mark Inspections did some small fixes that needed to be done before moving into our first home. He was honest, professional, and an excellent communicator. i mentioned we wanted to remodel one bathroom before we moved in, he quoted a very reasonable price and had it done quick. Then we had him do the other bathroom (fully tiled floor, textured walls, paint, new shower/toilet/vanity), it completely transformed the place. We've never owned a home before and he was so kind and helpful in showing us what materials to pick out so we could personalize the remodel exactly to match our vision. After a few months, the entire home was remodeled and we just moved in a few days ago, it looks incredible. I would refer him to anyone needing repairs or remodel work, he tackled installing new flooring throughout the house, textured, painted, baseboards, built a brand new patio cover, etc. If we ever need something going forward he will be the first person I call, there's nothing that he and his team can't handle, just a stand up guy. read more

Simply the BEST!!! As a Top Producing Realtor, I have sold hundreds of homes over the years and used dozens of Home Inspectors. Recently we have started doing business at the Central Coast. 12/21/2017 - We recently used On The Mark Inspectors to inspect a home we are looking to purchase. I contacted Mark and from the first call the experience has been great. Mark took it upon himself to contact the selling agent to gain access to the property to setup the Radon test early so the results would be ready during the inspection. The inspection was very detailed touching on all aspects of the property inside and out. Mark is great with explaining each aspect of what he is inspecting and why in a simple way that anyone can understand. Mark with On Mark Home Inspectors did mine and my husbands home inspection. He was very professional and went above and beyond in his line of work. He walked us through the whole house explaining all the things that needed to be done, in detail. He was kind, patient, and very professional. He took the time to explain things to us, and answer any questions we had. He explained in detail why one thing or another was a "red flag" and needed to be repaired ASAP.
