We live out of town and were in-contract to purchase a property in SLO. During our tour of the property, we noticed some moisture in the wall behind the fridge and and a couple of other areas with mold. We asked the property inspector if he had any recommendations for a mold company. We asked Steve at Pacific Coast Home Inspection because he was so thorough with the property inspection on. He referred us to Don. I was initially skeptical of this whole mold-sampling business. It felt too simple and too expensive. However, I have since been educated and have a new appreciation for this industry. Don found 2-3 areas that were creating spores. The sellers were conscientious and remedied the sources; however, their plumber tracked spores back into the house. Don had warned that this might happen, but his recommendations weren't followed. Only due to Don's expertise were we able to discover invisible areas where spores were tracked in and ask the sellers to clean them up before we took possession. Without Don's expertise, we would have never known that mold spores were still present. Our daughter is very allergic to mold, so we are so grateful that we found Don and Environmental Mold Sampling. I highly recommend this company.

    Don did a fantastic job testing my home for mold. This was a while back, but I'm surprised to see a…read morenegative review, and wanted to share my experience. I had a contractor attempt to treat water damage for mold, but he made the situation far worse. I called Don to provide definitive testing, and he was very professional and thorough, and confirmed that the "contractor" had NOT eradicated mold at all. Don's testing found some pretty bad types of mold. He does not do the remediation, so his findings are not biased. Don tested my house after a competent contractor did the sanitation, and the tests came back clean (no toxic mold, levels as expected). I highly recommend this service!

    I usually don't post a lot of reviews, but feel the need to with this company. We requested mold…read moreremoval and rebuild of cabinets and new counter in the kitchen. Steve Knght was pleasant to work with at first, but then became very rude, unhelpful, and not honest about costs as time went on. I lived out of town and when his quote for counters came at a significantly larger cost then he originally quoted, would not help me find a suitable replacement for a rental and only guided me to places with no pictures to use. He then CHOSE the counters without my approval and was dishonest about the cost to put them in, asking me for an additional $6k months later that somehow "wasn't on the invoice". From speaking with others in Santa Barbara this is a typical experience. If you choose him, account for 150% or so of the price he quoted you initially. My tenant is also a handyman and was inspecting his crews work. He said he had to be on top of them to mount the cabinets correctly, and somehow storage space and cabinets just disappeared. If he hadn't been onsite I think it would have been very poorly constructed.

    KwikResponse was quick to respond and quick to demo my kitchen after I had a water leak inside my…read morewall. But then things weren't so quick. They tore out my entire kitchen, sent their plumber out to do a temporary fix on the leaking pipe, and set up fans & a dehumidifier. After a week, the fans (extremely loud) were still there until I called to find out why they hadn't been removed. No one had come to check the moisture levels until I made a phone call. They were running for almost 2 weeks total (ugh!). After a month with no kitchen, I made another phone call to find out why nothing had been done. I was told that they were waiting for the insurance to authorize payment. (From day 1, I told them that cost didn't matter...I needed my kitchen repaired) At that time, I was emailed a contract stating that I would cover costs if the insurance denied anything. Why that wasn't offered on day 1, I have no idea. Anyway...with the contract signed, they started working the following week. Things started rolling, which was great, but then we never really knew when the different contractors (drywall, plumber, paint, cabinet, granite) were going to show up. Jose, the project manager, was very responsive to my phone calls or texts....and I'm sure he thought I was nagging him. He made necessary phone calls to try and get my kitchen finished. After a full 2 months, my kitchen was finally done. On a side note, I work out of town and wasn't there to inspect progress each step of the way. My husband was there intermittently due to his work schedule. I was finally able to get home and see the finished project. For the most part it looked fine , but as I started putting my kitchen back together, I started noticing things that were done half-heartedly. The dishwasher didn't work...only because the electrical plug they replaced pushed into the wall when they tried to plug in the dishwasher, so the plug didn't engage completely. (There were a couple of plugs that were that way) I'm not sure if they missed a screw when they installed it? But I didn't have the patience at that point, to pull the face plate off and see how the plug was installed. My ceiling still has a grime line from where they hung the plastic sheeting, the paint in the kitchen was a poor job (see attached photo), the granite counter looks like they were about 1/4" short where it met the wall and they made up the gap with a lot of whatever it was that they used to seal the seams. They even left it on my wall! So needless to say, the next time I'm home, I'll be grabbing a paintbrush and "fixing" the paint in the kitchen and grabbing a ladder and cleaning my ceiling. The people from KwikResponse that I spoke with were very nice and I have no complaints about them. But I would have thought that they would have done a walk through to make sure their sub-contractors did a good job, since it reflects negatively on them when the work is sloppy. This is the only time in all of my years of home ownership that I have ever had to hire a restoration company. I truly hope I never have to do it again...but if I do, I'll make sure to take a leave of absence from work to be there every step of the way to ensure this doesn't happen again.
