[[HIGHLIGHT]]The location is good and the environment and interior fits the region (rural area).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were welcomed and seated at a very nice table. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was dark outside so we were not able to enjoy the Lake view (not their fault).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waiter did a great job providing the specials . We ordered the ribeye and the duck. Texture wise and taste were ok, but both were served from our perspective below temperature ( and I mean the preparation was medium rare which was good) but the meet itself was below room temperature which made it difficult to taste the actual flavor of both types of meat. The wine selection was excellent. In general I would say given the price range the plates should be served warm so that eating it does not get cold too soon.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful setting overlooking lake.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was very good. The wedge salad for 15.50 was very small portion of shredded greens surrounded with a couple cherry tomatoes and sliced onion. Very overpriced. Pork chop was nice not sure on mashed potato they tasted similar to instant. Lobster well all I can say is look at picture that is $70 worth lot lobster...two very small tails. Server was outstanding. Crème Brûlée was pricey and very small. Bread pudding was the best every and nice size service. Sides with entree very small amount of green beans and squash. The company we were with made it worth it.

So excited to be back here it has been too long. Hubby ordered scallops and I had trout. He loved his but wasn't thrilled with mine not much taste. Service was wonderful and we had a locker Rose wine and a buttery Chardonnay. Nice jazz band playing in the bar so we stopped on the way out to listen. It was a lovely evening!

How nice to arrive 5 minutes early for our 7:15 PM reservation and our table was ready! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated on the Verandah porch overlooking a smooth, crystal clear lake.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server, India, offered our party of four drinks and dinner specials and was friendly and attentive. The lobster picatta single lobster tail in a lemon buerre blanc with capers was expensive ($30) but delicious. ( FYI The lobster picatta main entree consists of 2 lobster tails and fresh vegetables for $64.) I could not decide between the Spicy Coconut Curry Shrimp or the Pan Seared Scallops so my friend and I ordered one of each and split the two- great choice as both were succulent and flavorful with Asian spices. Our husbands had the filet mignon and trout. When in western Carolina, the fresh trout is always a favorite and a good choice! The filet was cooked perfectly and was juicy and thick. Even though we were too full for dessert, we had to try the key lime tart in phyllo pastry with fresh berries to share for the table. It was light and full of refreshing key lime flavor. Our server offered to split the check by couples, which we appreciated without having to ask and avoiding the awkwardness of the check splitting process. We will be back and look forward to another lovely evening with great food and service at On the Verandah in Highlands.

It's such a beautiful and peaceful space to dine, especially with the amazing Spring and Fall temps they get there. We were with a party of 6 (plus a baby), and walked up without a reservation a bit late in the evening. We figured we'd try it and see if we could get in if it wasn't too late, and luckily enough, the hostess was kind enough to make it happen for us! The menu actually has a lot of variety for a wine garden - drinks and food wise. I started with the French onion soup and it was delicious. The Caesar salad was also quite yummy, but the meatloaf was the showstopper of the night! I am still dreaming of it now, and wish I could replicate it myself because it was that good and memorable! For dessert, I ordered the affogato which is their house made vanilla bean ice cream with an espresso shot and it was the perfect ending to the night! Our server was so attentive and kind, and constantly checked in on us and cleared our plates since the tables are a bit on the smaller side. I had an excellent experience all around!

Four of us grabbed spots at the bar, ordered Aperol Spritzes, and immediately settled in. We shared the salad and the veggie pizza, and on our waitress's advice added pepperoni--and wow, was that the right move. This pizza is the real deal: incredible color, a perfectly crisp, crunchy crust, and layers of flavor that genuinely blew us away. I make pizza at home (yes, with an Ooni), and this is the kind of pie that makes you pause mid‑bite and say, "Okay... they know what they're doing." Not floppy, not overdone--just expertly made and insanely satisfying. The atmosphere sealed the deal. Sitting at the bar felt fun and communal, with friendly locals, fellow visitors, and staff all contributing to the vibe. It was welcoming, lively, and exactly the energy you want when you first roll into town. Phenomenal pizza, great drinks, and a spot that understands hospitality. We'd come back for the pizza alone--but everything else made it even better.

Apparently we were very unlucky when it came to bar seating this trip We ordered the burrata to start. It was fresh and absolutely delicious. But our Hot Pig pizza seemed to miss the mark. The sauce that was drizzled on top didn't seem to add anything to the dish. It just kind of fell flat after such a delicious start. We finished off with a bit of gelato which was also super yummy! And the coffee was wonderful but it was served so hot that we had to wait a while before even being able to sip it. Overall it was a good dinner, we just wished we had gone with a different pizza

I just don't know what to say, other than it was disappointing and underwhelming. The food was just really not good, and the entree took forever to come out of the kitchen. We both ate less than half of our appetizers and entrees. My crab dip order was like something from a Chili's,the fish so dry you couldn't eat it. I forget what my husband's orders were, but he barely ate them. At the end we shared a skillet cookie for desert and did finish it, even though parts were burned. The staff insisting to shake your hand upon greeting and departing, at the table, was disconcerting as well. For a Relais &Chateaux hotel, not having white table cloths, inferior food, and mediocre service is out of the ordinary. I don't think we'll be back.

Ended up using the back of the booth for our water bottle and condiments and still struggled for space. Buffalo wings were good but not exactly Buffalo. No buttery spicy hot sauce. It was more peppery than buffalo. Wings were cooked perfectly though Reuben is excellent as are the jalapeno Mac bites. Cheese dip was also excellent but we (and the table next to us) had to ask for more chips. Not portioned terribly well. Beer options were very slim (2 on tap from what it gathered). I'm sure there were plenty of bottled options but draft was disappointing. We ordered the ale but they tapped out and brought us brown ale. At 5pm...only a brown and stout on tap.
