Peaceful walk on the beach @ Agate Beach in Newport, OR. !…read more We found this great spot off of NW Oceanside Dr. and were pleasantly surprised with how much soft and clean sand there was leading up to the ocean! The sand space was expansive and we were happy to feel like we had our own private beach even though there were many other parties enjoying this area as well. We did not encounter any trash along our walk through the rolling hills of sand or by the ocean waves. There were some sketchy looking vehicles in the parking lot, but the beach is everyone's right, and we were not bothered by anyone during our time here. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with supplies. We would look forward to enjoying the beach at this location again.

It's hard to pull yourself away from the beauty of the waves crashing against the rocks. There is a couple benches and a picnic table to sit at but no bathrooms or B.B.Q. Pits. Remember, it's a State Park in the city of Depoe Bay, that means "No Smoking."

After a brief search online, a few reviews pointed to Lost Creek State Park just seven miles south of Newport. I decided to give it a shot! Just off the highway, visitors will find a medium sized parking lot with space for roughly 20-25 cars. Half of the parking spaces face the ocean with only a 4 foot fence between the parking lot and the bluff below. There are great views just from the parking lot! Immediately to the left visitors will find a paved path that goes downhill to a public restroom, with a fair number of very sturdy picnic tables that line the path all the way to the beach below. This site makes for a great place to stop for a picnic and enjoy the ocean views. The path to the beach isn't very steep, however the pavement is a little bumpy due to root growth below, as well as some potholes. The park has done a pretty good job of outlining some of the bigger bumps and holes to alert folks with mobility issues. The trail is passable for wheelchairs as long as someone helps to navigate the bumps. There are many recreation sites along the coast, but if you're looking for quick and easy access to the beach at a site that might not have too many visitors, I have a hunch this is a safe bet.

We had originally planned to get here early enough to take a whale watching boat tour, but it was so incredibly foggy, we decided to just park and see what we could on the walkway on the main street though town. While a trip out on one of the many boats that leave from here would have been fun, since they all seem to come right near to the shore to see the same whales we were seeing, we saved a few bucks and had a great walk through town instead. There's an informative whale info center, with some great views from their second floor observatory (we even saw a sea lion or two lounging out on the rocks!) along with all the usual gift shops and some pretty good restaurant choices, all in easy walking distance. I'd say go EARLY, both to take the whale watching tours, which seemed to be selling out pretty quickly, in spite of the fog, and to avoid the MUCH larger crowds that seemed to be arriving just as we were heading out around lunch time. Don't let the crowds scare you too much though; it's a great stop and DEFINITELY worth a visit!!

There's a large, steel whale tale coming out of the grass. And in the summer, every couple of minutes, a spout of water sprays way up into the air - just like a whale "blows" haha! It almost looks like someone's yard. But it's right along the 101 and you can't miss it if you're walking around the cute little town. Definitely worth passing by just for fun - especially for families with kids.

We've always used McKinley's Marina in Alsea Bay for our crabbing boats and crab pots. The staff is professional, helpful and could not be nicer!!!! When we arrive at our scheduled time, they are ready to kit us out with lifejackets, crabbing boats & crab pots. The boats are fitted with a pulley to help haul in the pots full of Dungeness crab! You need to bring the bait with you (we use raw chicken quarters.) Each boat has room for up to 4 adults (and a couple of kiddos if necessary). We head out just before high tide. It's so much fun! When we get back to the dock, the staff check our crab to make sure we have legal size males (only) and they prep it and steam it right there at the docks. They even have picnic tables for us to feast on our fresh catch. He brought us 2 fresh crabs all cooked and ready to eat! We will certainly come back and enjoy the view and hospitality. Clean restrooms and laundry room. We walked to the best little bakery across the bridge...delicious! Town is just over the bridge if you have a need. Took nice drives to view the different beauty. Not too pricey either
