After they had gone my wife opened the damper and looked up to see much dirt still hanging on the upper firebox. Contacted Mike and he sent a picture showing the firebox with the damper closed, very clean, as though he didn't believe us. Explained the problem and offered our money back but we just wanted the job done right. He came out to look at it. Sent the guys back out 2 days later to correct the problem. Don't know if they accidentally missed that part or what but the service guys were always on-time, very friendly and courteous, explained everything, and cleaned up after they finished. While here (total service time was less than 45 minutes), the tech told us we needed a new remote and receiver, which was fine. What he didn't tell us is the price. Imagine our surprise when we get a $550 bill showing a $320 line item for the remote and receiver. My husband looked up the item online, and it retails for $129-$159 (picture below). He called to inquire about the expense and to ask why we were being charged double the MSRP, especially knowing Short's likely gets the piece wholesale. The owner refused to budge on the charge, even when we showed proof that the price was inordinately high. He just doubled down on spewing misinformation. To be clear, we have no problem paying some mark-up, but over 100% is just bad business. Not to mention it's against the law to not disclose the cost for a repair when something is over $250.
